I was hoping the revamp would include a phaser lance that could actually shoot more than once every three minutes, or have a regular firing mode that wasn't a beam-overload-clone. I guess I expected too much lol.
All any ship needs to take advantage of an added tactical console is a spacebar.

Regardless of the "Dreadnought" designation this ship is built for one thing... being an aggro tank.
Six points in threat gen, Embassy +threat consoles and a good EPtX build, you can aggro the whole map and sit there laughing as you cycle heals and buffs. Keep the heat off the rest of your team and learn to enjoy a role that's less about DPS.
Tanking and Threat is a completely useless mechanic when damage output, defenses, and self/cross-healing are all so insanely high due to the Power Creep Cryptic have themselves implemented.
I'll go on to say that a "Tank" is the absolute worst thing to have on a team. They do nothing in speeding up the mission. They just sit there with minimal firepower, minimal science support abilities, and pretend their heals matter that much, when the truth is that minimal healing from across the team is more than sufficient for even the hardest content of this game. None of the story arc missions will challenge you. STFs and similar instances aren't hard, esp. when your ship is properly configured. There's so much subsystem power (yes, even the Warbirds), so many strong abilities, OP consoles, so many Reputation System Bonuses, that the NPCs are no match at all.
The game is a complete walkover.
The fact that there are people that do ESTFs in Shuttles and T1 ships should show that. Tanks are pointless. Be useful and bring either:
Strong Firepower
or
Good Science ability CC.
Even Science Debuffs are useless in STO. Not needed when you can melt a Tac Cube in less than a minute.
Anyhow the point is moot because some folks apparently do perfectly well with the ship and think it's fine and others will say any ship that isn't the best of the best of the best is a utter waste of pixels and nothing either side say will convince the other until the thread devolves into throwing insults around and labeling everyone who likes the ship as a "Pathetic Cryptic Fanboy" and every one who doesn't like it as an "elitist pvp munchkin" or whatever terms you prefer.
The above poster is correct, The trinity is dead in this game. A tank is worthless in ESTF's and team PVP. The way cryptic released this ship there is one 1 viable build for it. TT1, APB and BFAW1 for the Uni Ens seat. The ability to slot cannons is moot as you have no useful cannon abilities you can slot. Torp's are useless as are mines for the same reason. An all beam setup with FAW is all it can do. Anyone that buys the Fleet Gl-X will run 1 or 2 missions with it and go right back to the Regent or Fleet excelsior or Ambassador. They could have sold thousands of these with one simple change, A LTCMDR Uni or Tac seat. Watch you will see them around for a week then they will disappear just like before.
im not wrong on either account and to be honest its MY opinion based on my experience with the fleet galaxy dred so to be honest if you do not like my post then move on to another thread.

Take your X up against a fleet X and see who does more damage... He has a perfectly valid point while your blowing up like a women on her monthly.
This is to everyone miffed at the Galaxy reboot... Just because its not made YOUR way doesn't mean Cryptic made it the WRONG way.
If you want another Regent clone get an Excelsior or better yet a Monbosh. Fly the ship you enjoy and find a way to make it work. Cryptic wanted some diversity and I appreciate that, they decided to build a massive tank that also had a pretty heavy tactical side. A unique ship which requires a unique playstyle.

Keep in mind the OP of this thread shared their opinion. Multiple times. Yesterday the opinion was "This sucks, I'm not going to buy it."
Then they went and bought it.
And came back to say "I bought this and it sucks."
I'm not putting anybody down. At all. I'm just pointing out the numbers. An extra tactical console is extra DPS. Not as MUCH extra DPS as the OP wanted. But it is more DPS.
EDIT: In regards to your other commentary about me, I believe Schmidt said it best.
I know, I know, it's another thread about the Galaxy-X. Whoopee. However, I'm going about it another way: instead of whining about how it sucks or going about how it's awesome, I'm just going to tell you how it is.
I bought the Galaxy bundle (O NOES) because of the fact I didn't have these ships nor the bridge pack. Win-Win IMO. After shuffling through everything to get everything set up, I went and bought a Fleet Gal-X and began to outfit it two ways: with Beam Banks and with Cannons. All Phasers so I could use the Spinal Phaser Lance. Also, outfitted it with the Antimatter Spread and the Saucer Separation consoles.
BOFF Seating: As a player too used to APB and GW, not having those third slots threw me off my game a bit. It also showed that I relied on it WAY too much. Both of my layouts use the same Sci and Eng BOFFs, but I swap out with my Tacs, with my beam bank layout using TT and BFAW and the Cannon using CS and TS. Again, the lack of APB and GW does hurt my tactics a bit, but it's something I've got to get over.
Turn: A lot of people have complained about the sluggish turns that the Gal-X (and by extention, Gal-R) has. The consoles does away with that. There's still that "power slide" because of inertia, but it turns a lot like the Support Cruiser or Heavy Cruiser now. The turn shoots way up once the Saucer is removed. The increase in turns and the addition of Saucer Separation makes it a bit more viable to use cannons now, even if the BOFF layout doesn't really scream "USE ME" the way you guys want them.
Spinal Phaser Lance: I hear a lot of people complain about this sucker, mostly because they can't hit targets with it. I can, if only because I choose unmoving targets or incredibly slow targets. Both deal painful damage (I can only push mine about 5-6K? I know I can get out more), but yeah, trying to shoot smaller, nimbler targets with this would be like trying to take down a fly with a pistol. The "sawed-off shotgun" variation does hit less, but I do believe I've struck multiple targets with its wide range.
Hangar: Can't really talk about that. I usually don't focus on that bit. I really should, though.
CONS: I think the biggest con here is the lack of Tac or Sci BOFF slots. However, that's because people tend to focus on the fact that it's a DREADNOUGHT Cruiser and not a Dreadnought CRUISER. Yes, you're going to lose DPS with this sucker. Yes, you're going to have a lack of attack options, but that's something you have to overcome. Learn new tactics that isn't "Okay, let's see how fast I can vaporize everyone." Become a tanker, draw out aggro and be the GW that you lack. It's certainly helped out a few times, that's for sure.
Another I see is the Spinal Phaser Lance. You're not going to hit things with it. You shouldn't be expected to. I don't see it as a another phaser cannon, I see it more like the Mega Particle Cannons from Gundam - heavy hitting, but moving out of the way will spare you. Don't use it as your killing weapon on a weak, yet fast opponent, use it as a final strike on a slow, weakened opponent. Better yet, have someone trap them in a GW, then hit 'em hard with it.
Verdict: This ship is not for everyone, let's get that straight. The Galaxy-X (normal or Fleet) wasn't made for out and out combat, it was a Galaxy with heavy weaponry slapped on in a hurry. A stopgap, if you may, for the Avenger. If you're looking for a heavy-hitting ship that melts everyone, get the Avenger. If you're looking for a challenge or something fun to try out, the Gal-X might be for you.
(I know I probably missed out on a lot of stuff, but I wanted to touch on a few things)
It's called the Failaxy for a reason ingame. Even after the "Reboot" that doesn't really do anything about the core issues for the regular Galaxy and Gal-X.

Wonderful. Does anyone else see something absurdly wrong with this guy?
No. He heard the whining and bought it fully aware of the criticism. Then he wrote a review of it. I didn't once see a "I want my money back!" Then it would be absurd.
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
So, i have just bought the fleet galaxy dreadnought.
Yeah. Spend your money how you want, but I just don't like how after so many thread about how crappy a 'reboot' this is, people are still rewarding Cryptic for a bad ship by paying for it.
Cryptic won't put effort into making a good product if 'we' keep buying the TRIBBLE ones!
Sometimes I think I play STO just to have something to complain about on the forums.
I've tried it out myself a while ago when i started and personally didn't find it fun. Other cruisers I do, but I tend to find I wonder back to escorts.
I do think its great that people like this ship as well as the Galaxy-R. Doesn't mean I won't keep giving my opinion on it though.
