The only really important question is whether or not this will be fun. With all the lockbox ship nonsense and hardly anyone having a reason to fly a faction ship, Dinos are hardly the worst thing that could happen. The models look good and I hope the Voth are as tough and fun to fight as they look. I'm looking forward to this and hoping for a ground npc group to fight that's actually interesting vs just mowing down dumb npc groups that fight like their AI got switched off.
Yeah I just did the spire thing on elite, felt pretty easy, no harder than a normal elite STF.
The impenetrable shield to energy weapons is ok but I just continue to obliterate everything else then turn my (guns doesn't carry the right emotion) energy weapons of mass destruction on the ship when it's shield runs out and it crumbles in seconds.
Ironically the biggest obstacle to success is the complete stupidity of players in covering bases and playing to strengths. Everyone jumps on the battleship and neglects the shuttles when really you want 3 killing shuttles and 2 wasting the battleship.
One criticism I will make is this....actually I'll dump it in your official thread.
We have giant apes attacking people in colony invasion, chunks of lava that can write on the ground with their own bodily fluids, we have lizards and two types of cat running around the galaxy, elves (Vulcans and Romulans), dwarves (Tellarites) and I'm pretty sure I saw a Predator lookalike (Nausicaan) walking around on Qo'nos. I think dinosaurs are not too much of a stretch of the imagination.
I say we wait for it to be released and give it a chance rather than complain about it, for all we know, it could be the best series Cryptic has ever done and there could be some awesome rewards but we don't know so criticising something that we've yet to even play is not productive.
You keep saying these things, as if we have not watched Star Trek, we have, however you keep missing the stories that were told in these episodes...
The game engine is old, that is the biggest problem, no matter what they do, I will still never be able to do a 360 in my starship...
Far Cry III Blood Dragon was well received by critics and sold over 1 million copies via download; hardly a fail.
How the Devs see Star Trek, apparently:
Star Trek: The Original Grind
Star Trek: The Next Grind
Star Trek: Deep Space Grind
Star Trek: Voyage to the Grind
So humans are evolved from dogs? and Humans use dogs not wild large cats or fully wild dogs(wolves and hygiens). Not MASSIVE huge wild beasts. and there WAS mammals at the voth are said to have left earth. and WHY earth Dinos why not something COMPLETELY different w=but a stupid frakking t-rex, or raptors.
Were, not was. Also, the Voth's closest relative was a hadrosaur rather than a raptor or tyrannosaur. And they were heavily hinted as possibly originating on Earth...
...Though given that apparently Klingons, Humans, Romulans, and Cardassians are also genetically related, it could be that the Preservers or whomever got around a lot more than we thought... meaning that the Voth's Distant Origin Theory might not be true, or that Earth wasn't the origin planet (though from a meta point of view it is, even if it isn't)... things get very confusing when dealing with extreme timescales.
Question, if these were bio-lizards ( alien spices native to the voth ) from the delta quadrant and, looked nothing like dinosaurs, would everyone be happier?

What's next a Gobot? or transformer or even a Time lord? if so can I get a TARDIS with unlimited console spots? and btw it was to costly to put dinos in any trek show they just left them out because it is STUPID!
Voth are evolved from dinosaurs, but presumably ornithischian dinosaurs, which is a totally different lineage from the saurischian theropods they're using in battle. They diverged in the Triassic period, so they're pretty much as far apart if not farther than primates and carnivorans (humans and dogs).
Certainly they could've brought little mammals with them when they left earth, but what were available were so small and unimpressive they were probably little use to the proto-voth.
Humans have had warhorses and elephants in ages past, and these are probably much more analogous to them than wardogs, despite the fact no-one's riding on them. And considering pneumatized bones allowed dinosaurs to reach much larger sizes than the largest land mammals, having the Voth warbeasts be even bigger than we'd use makes sense.
Take a look at my Foundry missions! Conjoined, Re-emergence, and . . .

How am I missing stories, I was merely giving examples of things from the game and Star Trek in general that are farfetched that most people accept without complaint while dinosaurs are so out of place that people threaten to quit a game because of it.

I've been around since season 3.... People will always whine about something....
The Voth are canon and given the origins of the Voth this is a logically extension of that.
Personally it sounds awesome. Battling Dino people, bioenigeered cyborg dinosaurs, mechs, all kinds of starships, plus a Dyson sphere, the mystery of the beings that built it, a new carrier of currently unknown origin, I'm looking forward to season 8. I wonder what else they'll have.

It is pretty obvious, your not really into Star Trek... Best go play Star Wars Dino Jaws... It will suite you better.
On a serious note, the same reason why most hard core fans got the hump with JJ, was that these people have completely missed what Gene was trying to show us.
That man kind could be better in the future, no war just peace and working together. Just to kill dinos on another planet, I think not....
...it looks awfully player-sized, don't you think?
I've heard a lot of complaints before but yeah I think they are serious probally won't fall far from the tree of ruining carriers, chaining tactical powers, etc. I hope you guys had a plan B for season 8 because it looks like your loyal followers are going elsewhere LOL.
I respect your view and I can understand what you guys are trying to do and it does makes sense but still... dino's are the last thing "in my game play" that I want to see. It brings the level of view "to me" for the game from way up high.. down to a kiddies game. I'm 33, sure theres other people around my age level that may like this but sorry.. this is something I really dont want to see.
Ill defenetly give it a shot. See what the content is like but honestly.. dino's... yeah just a bad bad idea in my view and one that actually force me out of the game. I know that may sound abit of a harsh reaction but.. yeah a trex walking around with a mini gun laser shooting people... might as well put big bird in the game with a phaser assault rifle.
I do hope others enjoy the new enemy and what it brings. Seems there is a few dozen out there that do like the idea.. but this player doesn't.. sorry
I'm 14, and I feel exactly the same, save for leaving the game. I'll play through all of the new content, but I really don't like those battle dinosaurs... However, the Voth themselves, the battlesuits, and the ships, and so on are great. Keep up the good work, STO team, but don't pull anything like the Dinosaurs again.

Based on what you've just said it's obvious to me that you are just trolling but hey, i'll bite. I have been watching Star Trek since I was just a kid, I have seen every episode and film, I have hundreds of novels, models, toys, games and I have been to a convention and met several actors from the series.
If you are only willing to accept Gene's Star Trek then watch the Original Series only as his vision of what Star Trek is, does not match what was shown in numerous episodes of the later series and films and not to mention all the non-canon material.
If Cryptic want to put dinos in the game they will, and on release day, I will be there with my phaser rifle to put them down. If you don't want to do that also, maybe you should be playing something different. I have put a lot of time, money and effort into this game, and I will probably be here the day the servers finally go down. I accept that not every thing in the game will be to my liking all the time but I am willing to give the new content a chance.

That a Capitalistic outlook and a good storyline at the right time coupled with a willing fanbase can create long lived cash cow?
If I don't see these armored Dino's chomping and eating players and local NPC's - that will TOTALLY kill the realism for me!!
I better see these Dinosaurs eating players and NPCs!!!
Where have you ever seen Dino's not chewing on people?? In any serious game/movie/TV show?? They always eat people!!
This will be an EPIC fail if this is not included in their behaviour!!
It would be really stupid if all they do is some lame headbutt, chomp, or slash attack repeatedly until their target dies. Though I'm not sure how much "graphic violence" Cryptic is permitted to do in this game.
I really don't want to see the giant T-Rex just sit there and shoot laser beams. It should come at us and charge, grab players with their jaws, toss 'em around or just gulp them up. It should be a hazard that has to be avoided at all costs.

I'm actually excited for ground combat for the first time with this game.
