I have repliground all my borg gear on my alts and moved to Maco shield/engine with Aegis deflectors.
Might also look into the other non stf deflectors as well just to see, as I cannot remember what they offer...
I can switch to Omega shield/deflector and Maco engine if I want extra dps.
Made a boat load more ec and gained a console slot on all my main alts/ships!
I can see why the devs did it, and admittedly I was a tad angry about why they keep nerfing the borg set rather than making the Omega/Maco worth using as a full set...
I guess the cruisers that I used to out tank in elite stfs will just have to get better and keep me alive, should be interesting....
Perhaps if enough Tac players try to get
Cruiser engineers buffed up and made fun to play
Tac skippers would jave good healers and tanks
I'n there missions , as a cruiser skipper myself engineer
Cruiser was so (unfun ) to play I went to escort with my
Engineer and don't plan on returning until it's fixed.
This is the unsavory truth,
Instead of Cryptic having an honest stab at not only balancing and improving current items but also the general enjoyment of each play style by offering more to Engi-Tanks and Sci players they've just nerfed a set in the hopes it will rebalanced things a little. They can start by fixing my broken D'Kyr and give it a proper bridge *grumble grumble*
Seriously though this nerfing alone is pointless the game needs something more than that.
Perhaps there role isn't very fun and they want to
Be able to blow up something as well so they didnt
Waste any points I'n threat control because there is
Little to no benefit I'n it for them
Then they shouldnt have rolled what was clearly a tanking class from the get go. It stated as such when you were at character select. I was a tank for four years in anarchy online. And when my raid and my teams ripped through a zone because i did my job there wasnt a better feeling in the WORLD. The benefit is higher resists. As an engi you have every obligation to hold/maintain aggression.
Perhaps the cruisers have spent all there skill points
Trying to raise there very low Dps
Its the tacticals that are supposed to be the hammer. If you're going to do this. Re-roll. I dont mind cross ships stuff engi's in escorts, tacts in the right cruisers. But if you're going to ignore threat generation and defensive abilites just because you dont like the role you chose please do everyone a favor and play something else.

This right here tells me you do not understand how to play any kind of Tanking character at all. Tanking characters endure all the stress of a mission and arent going ot enjoy them DURING a mission. But when you walk out of an STF knowing it would have failed without your skill. THAT is where the enjoyment is THAT is where a tank feels his best, and THAT is why a tank does his job. That is the mindset of a tank in damn near every game i've played.
I cant comprehend why people skill the way they do and why they use what they do. I do know this change will force engi's to go back to their roots or there will be a hellish amount of failures.

Really, lol this change will do nothing for Engineers in Cruisers other than make them less tanky, granted it will make Escorts and Sci ships also less tanky. But seriously it will just make a Tanks job harder.
With regards to threat generation I never spec it for the simple reason that honestly the damage resistance it gives is useless and no matter how much you bash hazard emitters, emergency to structural and emergency power to shields you will still get cranked by a Borg Iso charge hitting you for 120k damage. This is a good thing as at the moment it's insanely easy to tank damage in this game.
Who knows, maybe one day they'll make enough changes so that my tac/escort can't tank the gate or a tactical cube in an elite STF.
It's sad that one needs to read the forums to figure out 'why' something appears to have been broken, as opposed to a good digest being available (in game) to view release notes, or otherwise.
I can say that I am 100% not a fan of this recent change. The devs should have worked harder to make the MACO and other new Borg themed set more compelling, as opposed to changing the legacy set that many of us have been running for quite a long time now. I wasn't aware of the advantages of the Borg / MACO shield combo until this thread, I typically ran either Borg + AEGIS shield, or Borg + Shield that best protects me from the energy type I was fighting.
This change kills some of the fun flexibility of my play-style, and still really doesn't make me want to spend my Data chips on any of the new space sets. As it stands I have enough to pick up 1 of the MK XI sets, and 2 pieces of the MK XII (still need parts for a deflector). To this day, the specs on the new sets I find to be Meh overall (for my playstyle).
A bit OT, I love how they nuked our old usernames, join date, and post count when we were Migrated to these forums. Makes it look like I just joined the game, as opposed to my old 2007 join date
Change is supposed to be good. People also hate change because its new and different and they "fear the unknown". However, this change is not one I agree with.
No more 3pc Borg + Aegis/Reman/Whatev shield. This was the general equipment loadout that was almost everywhere.
The Console is part of its own set now when it shouldn't be.
The [DMG]x3 mod on the cutting beam doesn't look helpful. Maybe [Acc][Dmg]x2 would be better. Or [Acc][CrtH][Dmg].
A Plasma torpedo? Really? With all the players using Omega/KHG/MACO shields as it is? Oh right, its kinetic damage that deals a plasma fire proc. Ah, wait, HAZARD EMITTERS. In other words, useless torpedo is useless. Try again? Though this plamsa torp would work with a full reman set pretty nicely
Leave the Retro Borg set ALONE. Sure make it Mk X/XI/XII like the STF sets, but keep the console as part of the entire set (make the Assimilated Module something you have to buy from the Personal Advancement system?). Increase their costs so that sense of accomplishment returns when buying it. Its currently way too easy to buy (15 EDC and 1 story mission).
BUFF the STF sets. Their stats and bonuses were lackluster when they came out (except the MACO shield which was released bugged with OP shield cap). Raise their individual part stats and set bonuses to exceed the current "Mk XI" Retro Borg (and match the Mk XII Retro Borg if that is ever made).
BUFF the Aegis Set. Its currently a Mk X crafting set. If Mk XI and XII existed and were scaled to match Retro Borg, then it would be nice.
I know people will pick this apart, but I needed to take my side in this "debate". Change must happen for Season 7, but this Ninja Nerf isn't it. Totally isn't it.
The STF sets have to actually be buffed like they were supposed to have been long ago in order to do what they were advertised to be: better than the Borg/Aegis. Nerfing Retro Borg just to make the weaker STF sets look better is a bad move.
But again, change has to happen and we must either adapt or die. Rethink your builds to fit the "changes" or get your butt handed to you a lot more often.
If you take on too much threat then your just as useless because you are usually staring at a re-spawn counter.
Weird. When I play my eng on a galor I can tank a whole stf map, including the end of ISE with the gate, the tac cube and 5-6 spheres. And this ship is far from being as tanky as an odyssey. What are you doing wrong?

As far as I am aware nothing, I'm spec'd right have the much vaunted Borg/Maco combo and have my shield and hull regen powers powers key-bound to shift+space, also have the correct shield power settings and remember even the Tac Oddessy has a Cmdr. Engineer slot.
But it happens, in order to shield Escorts who fly in too close and generally move far too much when they should be sitting their pointing nose first one has to move closer to the gate, spheres or Neg Var's and every so often they will hit you with an ISO charge or Plasma Torp that crits @ 120K+ damage.
If that doesn't happen to you the you're either not playing enough STF's, don't get close enough or don't attract enough attacks from the Borg. Or you're playing with Escorts who know to shield themselves by using you as defensive redoubt.
I cant comprehend why people skill the way they do and why they use what they do. I do know this change will force engi's to go back to their roots or there will be a hellish amount of failures.
I will still do fine being an Eng in an Escort. Yes the borg set has had its final blow into being obsolete, but I have already adapted am doing perfectly fine.
lol at everyone whining about changes to the borg set, its not the end of the world. This is a set that is far too easy to get and something everyone has, so everyone will still be on a level playing field.
We need more diversity in this game, it will be nice to see people actually using full MACO, Aegis, Omega, and Honor Guard sets, it gets boring with everyone using the same stupid 3pc borg with MACO/Honor Guard shields.
Its still not that hard to survive in an escort using other sets, i have been using 3 pc honor guard with no borg pieces and still have no trouble in STF, and still rack up insane healing numbers in pvp, usually higher then cruisers.

But that's my point this does nothing for diversity if anything all it does is homogenize peoples builds to set specific rather than mix and match. So you're taking variety out. I am actually for the changes to the Borg set but only if we get updates to Aegis/Breen/Jem and fixes for MACO as it stands this in no way helps with diversity.

But this is taking away diversity. I fly x2 Breen and x2 Borg but after the change it is impossible for me to have x2 borg without losing the Breen set which is needed for my setup to work. I basically have fewer options.

Both of these, the devs version of diversity is to kill it off it seems...

You guys have a point about people mixing 2pc sets together, but the vast majority of people aren't doing that. They are all mixing 3 pc borg with STF shield leading to an overpowered combination.
Though we won't see those 2pc/2pc mixes anymore, we will see much more variety in the 3pc sets used.
I don't mind using any of the 3 pc MACO/Omega/HG sets myself as they are now, but I wouldn't be against any buffs to their 3pc set bonus as long as all 3 of those sets got a fair increase in set bonus without one being overly strong compared to the other.

Of course we won't what we will see people using KHG/MACO/OMEGA, not anything else no one (or at least less than now) is going to use underpowered Breen/Jem/Aegis 3 piece sets. You know it and I know. So we've gone from 3 piece + 1 OMEGA/KHG/MACO (3 different sets) to OMEGA/KHG/MACO (3 different sets). No change. Simple so less diversity than before. There are a hell of a lot of people including myself using 2 piece sets and mixing fleet or jem/breen/aegis and that will all be gone. So no there will be a reduction not an increase in diversity.
Like I said I am fine with nerfing this set, but not if it means the other sets remain broken/underpowered.

Sorry but it is what it is; a loss of diversity.
Seeing as hardly anyone uses the 3 pc stf sets seeing more people use them even if the other 3pc sets like Breen/aegis/jem/ aren't used much is still more diversity.
Right now its probably like 90% or some really high percentage only use 3pc borg with stf shield.

If we take your statistic to be true...
So you want to replace 90% who have
3 piece Borg + OMEGA or 3 piece Borg + MACO or 3 Piece Borg + KHG
with 90% who have
MACO or OMEGA or KHG.
instead of having a like 12 different combinations, we're going to be reduced to 3... unless they actually do something with the other sets to make them useful at end game.
It's basically the same thing, apart from the fact that more people will have useless final tier powers like Graviton beam.
Erm we had 1 combo fed side, 2 kdf side. o sane fed used anything but the MACO sheild if they where min-maxing as it's the ebst of the lot. KDf could argue eitheir way on HG vs OMEGA. So e went from 3 combos max to 4, assuming people don't go 2pc + 1pc/no set pc. Hate to break the news to you but borg sheild is viable, it just isn't OMGWTFBBQ OP like the 3pc borg + stf sheild combo's.

You're right everyone on the Fed side will just run full MACO from now on
Heh, I'm actually thinking of running 6 piece borg (both 3 piece combo's) on my D'Kyr...
Seems to me like this was the perfect opportunity to update the other 3 piece sets and it seems like they haven't done so.
This is one factor in why I don't PvP. If something changes, you've got to completely change up how you play.
Give me NPCs and STFs where I can be slightly under-powered (lack of resources for certain gear, lack of time to earn gear, etc.) but still can deliver the hits.
God, I just tried out the three piece sets for MACO and Omega Force, and the third set bonuses both SUCK! Omega Force two piece bonus is good, but the MACO second piece bonus is MEH! If you're going to mess with the Borg set, then I hope the Devs improve these other sets at the same time.
The problem is this...do the devs pvp, form my knowledge no. I could be wrong.
The AI is a joke, in 15 years of gaming I have never seen a worse AI, granted it may be due to the engine. Also as a rule of them if its too good, then except it to be nerfed, hence the term, apadt and elove. Their are many ways to skin a cat, the problem is it takes effort to do so through =\
Edit: Yes the other sets 3 piece doesnt compare, probably going to see 2/2 mix. Hmm would just make Aiges come back....heh.
At the risk of re-igniting the flames, allow me to attempt to explain the reasoning behind this change...
The Borg Space Set was originally balanced around the concept of players using all four pieces. This included the Regenerative Shield.
After the set went live, it became very evident that the vast majority of players did not wish to use the Borg Shield. Instead, they began running 2- and 3-piece conglomerations of Borg Set + Other Shields (and frequently Other Engines or Deflectors).
The trouble this presented, is that the passive heal procs present on the 2- and 3-piece Borg Set bonuses were intended originally to offset the downside presented by having a low-capacity shield array in an end-game environment where heavy spike damage was present (STFs). When you remove that shield from the mix, and replace it with a high-capacity alternative, you begin to receive all of the benefits and none of the downsides.
Hence an imbalance came to pass.
Even after the Borg Set Bonuses were toned down several months ago, nothing really changed. The vast majority of players continued to run Borg 2- or 3-piece, plus a shield of their choosing, benefiting from a design oversight to a degree that left combat in an imbalanced state.
By removing the Console from the Borg Space Set, we've brought a semblance of balance back to that equation. Now, in order to benefit from the set bonuses in the manner that was originally intended, players must use the Shield that was intended to be a part of the package as a whole.
This is not a change we undertook lightly, as we're always hesitant to take things away from players that have already earned them through a potentially time-consuming process. In fact, this is why we added the previous 4-piece bonus (Borg Tractor Beam) to the 3-piece set, instead of including it as one of the bonuses of the new "Alt Set." So that players that had already earned this equipment lost nothing, and did not have to go out and earn new equipment in order to get something they already had.
We're watching the aftermath of all of this very closely to ensure that our motivations for making the choices that we did, match up with the results that players are experiencing. It may come to pass that the Borg Set items, or associated Set Bonuses, now need to be improved under this new design. That's something we'll continue to keep on our radar.
As one result of the feedback we've already received in relation to this change, we're performing another performance review of all of the STF set bonuses, with a specific focus on the 3-piece abilities. This includes the Heavy Graviton Beam, Gravitic Anchor, and Mask Energy Field. All of these powers will be improved in some manner, along with an upcoming patch.

This sounds like the best way to go about it: Change to original intent, but give an incentive to use it over some other set.
Not everything has to be OP to be useful. Just give it enough upside to make a person scratch their head and go "Hmm...Never thought about that before..."
As you said, intended to be used as a 4 piece set, so now that you are forcing us to use all three (engines, deflectors and shields) will we see a buff for the Borg set (or back to former stats at least before the nerf), or as I noted, they are MK XI now will we see a MK XII?
I mean you guys nerfed it once, so now using it by itself was pretty poor until you added bonuses form OMEGA/MACO sets and now your nerfing it again, but without anything to boost it. And if your argument is that a tractor beam you can use only every 4 minutes makes up for this, you're mistaking.

The existing set is becoming Mk XI. Under the Omega Reputation, there will also be Mk X and Mk XII versions available.

I will still do fine being an Eng in an Escort. Yes the borg set has had its final blow into being obsolete, but I have already adapted am doing perfectly fine.

Both of these, the devs version of diversity is to kill it off it seems...
2) This absolutely does reduce the diversity of builds.

#2311#2700#2316#2500
You're right everyone on the Fed side will just run full MACO from now on
Heh, I'm actually thinking of running 6 piece borg (both 3 piece combo's) on my D'Kyr...
Seems to me like this was the perfect opportunity to update the other 3 piece sets and it seems like they haven't done so.

Give me NPCs and STFs where I can be slightly under-powered (lack of resources for certain gear, lack of time to earn gear, etc.) but still can deliver the hits.

LTS, here since...when did this game launch again?
The existing set is becoming Mk XI. Under the Omega Reputation, there will also be Mk X and Mk XII versions available.
