Is the Zen store completely worthless to Cryptic/PWE now? What, charging 20 friggin bucks for an account-wide ship wasn't enough of a ripoff? Now they wanna keep going with this gambling BS and have PvP completely dominated by P2W gimmicks?
Ah well, guess I'll just have to make do with the meager scraps that I have. . .since I'm not interested in putting in hours and hours of obsessive grinding, and I don't have the money to buy these shiny P2W gimmicks.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.
Damn it cryptic why did you have to make the new lock box so cool, I actually want the stuff in it perhaps spending some real money instead of waiting for my stipend, its overriding my sense of canon decency
I guess now's the best time to stock up on those 10-packs of Keys, while they're still on sale this week.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
They will be in a single box, labeled as a Temporal Science Vessel. The allegiance of the captain that opens it will determine which actual ship is received (Wells or Korath).
So basically if we get the box on our KDF, we can send it to our Fed and open it for a Wells? Awesome!
First of all let me just say am tired of hearing this endless whining about star trek cannon it doesn't exist no matter what anyone says. Second of all these new ships are a welcome breath of fresh air from the boring fed designs involving nacelles also I am not entirely certain as to how this is pay to win?
Last but not least will be that these boxes will be so rigged it will hurt and it will take a few openings of said boxes to get the ship we really want which for me would be the Wells class for I like the look of it. Now should a member of cryptic openly put on here the actual odds then I will be quite surprised , another thing as well no one is making you or anyone else open these boxes so if you don't want to do it then don't.
I only open boxes when I get the chance or if I have nothing else better to spend my points so its just like buying a magazine in that context. Also if you want new content etc you kind of need capital in order to do it so until they find some other way of making money these will have to do.
I still think selling real tangible merchandise is a good way to go like T shirts, mugs, or any other STO related stuffs plus this would provide free advertising for the game too :P.
Suffices to say everyone including me has had their two cents on lockboxes and yes I think they are a pain in the butt however I appreciate that these are a necessary evil in order to provide the resources needed for the long term development and improvement of the game.
why is it that the lock box ships are textured far better than the c-store ships ? , to me more care is taken with these tbh . dev's if you want pics to see what i am saying pm me (not ban me please)
My initial response to the temporal lockbox is disappointment,
My thoughts rest with those who are left who try PVP, judging from the names of the new weapons chroniton beams? and descriptions of some of the abilities and set abilities? reversing time.. slowing time for enemies while speeding for yourself?..
Plus the cross faction consoles? ...
Yeah cant see PVP getting better from this
And of course the fact that the first few lock boxes seemed a bit money grabbing, this one just feels like greed.
just my feelings
[Combat (Self)] Your Bite deals 2378 (1475) Physical Damage(Critical) to Spawnmother.
Yep I don't think they have ever gotten the meaning of actions speak louder than words because they keep talking about how they are going to make the KDF better but their actions say otherwise.
Plus I don't see myself wanting these ones for the KDF they just seem to be rehashed copies of the fed stuff which doesn't give it the feel of being Klingon.
Yep I don't think they have ever gotten the meaning of actions speak louder than words because they keep talking about how they are going to make the KDF better but their actions say otherwise.
I suppose giving the fed only that costume is down to the fact it has already appeared/been designed for them to use, less effort is needed to make it rather than to design then make a kdf equivalent?

Ok seriously?? Seriously? Recently I have been a BIG supporter of the KDF, making posts all over the forums about the need to move the KDF along.
The fact is here are the first real KDF ships - Klingon ships/skins to come along since the train box car 7 months ago.
It is a very very good looking ship/s - and I encourge all KDF fans to try and get one - to show that there is support for new Klingon type ships - putting down the first klingon ship to come by in a long while is not helpful!
We CAN'T have a T5 TOS Constitution...because it breaks immersion.
But, we can have time travel ships from the 26th or 29th Century.
Canon fail much?
Ever heard of the Temporal Prime Directive? Oh and how about the Temporal Accords? Let's not mention that when these ships were seen in the series, the crews and commanding officers of said ships, were ADAMANT they not mess with the time line.
But now we're gonna have Time Travel ships all over the place.
Double Mega Epic /facepalm
As far as the T5 TOS Constitution, the devs have repeatedly said this: Paramount doesn't want to make a deal of the TOS Constitution because they want to protect the original Enterprise. Besides, would you really want everybody flying around in a Constitution Class?
As far as time travel ships... yeah... You can say you stole the technology, just like the Doctor stole the mobile emitter.
As far as time travel ships... yeah... You can say you stole the technology, just like the Doctor stole the mobile emitter.
Or that the ships were actually designed in the 25th century and resurrected in the 29th. Just like the NX, Oberth and earlier ships were for this game. I don't understand how people do not get this.
Take the NX class. In the 22nd century they were the best ships that Earth could build. Now they can be used again with existing technology only, instead of front line ships, they've been reduced to light escorts. If Cryptic tried to make the class a T5 then I'd totally be supporting the call for a VA Connie.
Besides, would you really want everybody flying around in a Constitution Class?
Welp, would be better than what I currently see around Earth a lot these days. All those alien ships and now soon temporally displaced ships from the future.
Yeah, I'd like to see everyone in a Constitution more than what I see now, be it the TOS one or the Tier 2 variants.
The new lockbox seems like an interesting mix of items. New federation and klingon ships, new mirror universe ships, new costumes for both factions, new shuttles, new Doff missions, new ship set, new ground weapons, and all of it leading into season 7. I will probably throw a fun dollars into the mix to try and get a few things.
Maybe because not everyone in the thread is actually whining? Just a guess....
I did not ask why he read the thread. The statement I quoted was whining about whining, so the "it" I was asking about was the whining itself. So what you just said has nothing to do with what I said.
I'm very happy with the fact the Lobi store is not going to be rotating anymore. To be honest, that does give me more incentive to get keys rather than simply sitting out when I don't like what the given theme.
I'll wait and see on the new box. Personally, I'd much rather see one that's Bajoran themed, just because I think the ships and equipment would be very nice looking.
My blog! Zen|Dilithium tracking on Thursdays http://samonmaui.blogspot.com As a lifetime member of STO, I officially became a financial liability as of April 2012 when compared to a subscriber.
No. It wouldn't have changed anything. If they'd set the game in the TNG/DS9/VOY era the NX would still be 220 years out of date - and the Connie over a century. If they'd set the game in the TOS era then the Galaxy, Intrepids, and Defiants would simply be out of date for the fans who want to fly those ships.
That's the real issue. You can't please all of the fans without hand-waving the canon. There's no way to make the TOS or Enterprise fans happy and still maintain any semblance of continuity. So you throw continuity out the window and just make an all-purpose Trek game: one where people can dress up in TOS uniforms if they want just as easily as people can dress up in All Good Thing era uniforms. All-purpose Trek allows everyone some leeway for their geekdom.
Personally I would have made a 25th Century Trek game where the Galaxy, Intrepid, and Defiant were the T1 ships. But that's just me. Other people would have loved a TOS/TMP era game, and so on. Cryptic probably made more money trying to please everyone a little bit then trying to only please 1 type of fan.
I would have done something in the vein of the Transformers: Universe toyline story.
Like... say... It's the 29th century and factions of Q are wagering about the outcome of a final assault against the Borg... and they're doing it by plucking people from time and giving them near magic ship upgrades so that everyone have a level chance, with one group backing TOS and another backing TNG, etc. And it's a big competition between the various eras with a big prize on the line.
Yes, that's daft as heck but it would work for the logic light game I think Cryptic would have wanted to make. The Connies and Galaxies, etc. are all fighting on 29th century level, courtesy of Q interference.
Apparently Stahl likes numbers (16% of people play KDF ) so I'll reiterate this again and he can count how many people are saying it.
This lock box screws with canon.
Tell us the chances of winning the grand prize.
Or just get rid of the lock box altogether.
You know which number Stahl probably likes more than the number of people who said any of those things? The rising number of income generated by this game due t lockboxes. He probably loves that one....
I actually love this lock box... but not for the ships... Ill reserve mu judgement on the Wells, Mobius, and Aeon until I see the stats for them... but I really like the console were getting, will feel so good to unleash it on the NPC Negh'vars that use it to kill me so much, and I'd like to get a Mirror Luna just for the skin, and maybe partake in the Doff quest to get a time traveler (so help me if there are no references to Doctor Who in it, I will be disappointed.)

I agree they need to keep up the... good work... on the lock boxes.

You also forgetting:
Bonaventure-class
Steamrunner
New Orleans
Challenger Class
Soyuz-class
Korolev-class
As well as the Phase II Enteprise Concept that made a cameo in the Star Trek 3 Space Dock Scene.
And of the Saladin, Hermes, and maybe even the Federation-class that never was seen on screen.

So dont read it. You have free will, so dont blame other people if you dont like the way you use it.

I don't want anyone to stop complaining on my account, but please read the whole article before you start.
... the design may not be Klingon in origin, but at least members of both factions can wear it.
I support the need for KDF content as well, but really, this Lock Box is looking good for the Klingons. No need for artificial drama this time.
Edit: thepopeofbeers beat me to it.
