Ok, but the fact remains, if they had such a problem with hybrids as you claim, then she wouldn't have made it to the rank of commander, regardless of whether or not her father was a General, and for that matter, she wouldn't have been born because he would've had Tasha Yar executed instead of taking her for his wife and fathering a hybrid child with her.
Romulans dont have a problem with other races, not even humans even though they tend to growl about the fact they do, it's more a smoke screen for fear of assimilation and loss of the Romulan society as a whole, where as klingons are not choosey about who wonders into their great hall, enemy or ally, as long as they are honorable and well received, they are allowed in. As long as this person be it klingon, breen or ferengi can act as a romulan, and do things by the romulan way then proven their loyalty, then they will be acknowledged as a Romulan officer not the outsider, but some obviously would challenge this because there could be bad blood or just resentment of assimilation into the wider galaxy.
The Tal Shiar are now bent on killing innocent Romulans without provocation... and everyone else.
They've betrayed any duty they once had and have embraced the Iconians, who want to kill every living thing in the galaxy.
The Tal-Shiar only kill opponents when it becomes a problem to the ambitions of certain senators with a part to play in keeping the Romulan tradition and culture alive. the Tal-Shiar themselves are respected and feared within the empire, that is enough to wield political power alone, so if a senator decides to enact a law that allows remans to claim land on the surface and a public apology, the Tal-Shiar would consider it their duty to assassinate this senator before it happens.
They won't serve the Iconians, they may know about them from Sela, but they won't become servant to the Iconians. only a few delusional Romulan's think of power and think Iconians as allies like Sela thought with the Duras sisters half a decade earlier. she saw it as a ticket to a place on the senate by controlling the Duras and through them, the Klingon empire. that would of carried substantial weight on the senate.
- At least available from Level 20 onwards like the KDF as second secondary faction and not as a tertiary faction, so players have a choice to go for KDF or RSE once they have reached Commander 24 rank.
- Playable races should be Romulans, Remans, Hirogen and a few special Beta-Quadrant origined races like the Hyralans, the Aelasians (Saturday's Child), the Tarodians or the Mylasi.
- Quinnie for Fed, Jimpuck for KDF, so ... Sela or Donatra (the cute one, not the Borg one) for RSE. ^^
- Playable ships: Bird-of-Prey and Seeker-class (Commander), Mogai Escort and Hunter-class (Captain), D'deridex Warbird and Apex-class (Admiral). More based on player wishes like Shrike-class, Venator-class, Talon-class shuttle, Super-stealth Hunter shuttle, Scimitar Dreadnought and Huntmaster Dreadnought (High-end for level 60 in Season whenever) etc.
- PVP must be enhanced so there can be a triangle war (UFP, KDF, RSE) or just UFP-RSE and KDF-RSE if players wish so. But the chance should be there for a big ship fight.
- At least the same amount of PVE content like we have now for the KDF, meaning at least 5 or 6 faction-unique PVE episodes and access to all featured ones.

What canon? Where was it said on screen that Donatra was assimilated? Where was it said on screen that Tomalak was a dismal failure and nearlysentenced to exile, but instead was graciously granted the ability to retire instead?
Those would be from game canon.
Where was it said on screen that Romulans openly accept hybrids and outsiders running the Empire?
In TNG Sela was promoted to high rank, despite being a hybrid. Now, as far as Sela running the Empire, she conquered the empire after years of bloody civil war and exile, so what the average Romulan wants doesn't really come into play.
Romulans do not like outsiders and they have less of a fondness for hybrids.
In your completely noncanon enforcing opinion maybe. In my completely noncanon enforcing opinion Romulans dislike outsiders more than they dislike hybrids, which explains Sela's ability to climb the ranks.
And in one of the missions, a Romulan commander saying eh, TRIBBLE the Tal'shiar, I don't care for them, here are their secrets! Yeah...how much more un-Romulan can you get?
Go rewatch Face of the Enemy, that would be TNG: 6:14. You'll see it's pretty damn common for a Romulan military officer to hate and want to **** over the Tal'Shiar.
Books are not canon; neither is fanfiction or fan-produced epsiodes/movies. This game certainly isn't in many respects.
Actually books, when authorized by the intellectual property holder, are called 'soft canon.' They can be considered canon unless they contradict the hard canon in shows/movies. This game itself I would consider to be 'soft canon.' But you've shown your grasp of hard canon to be inferior to the understanding held by the game developers so your judgment about how this game falls short doesn't really mean much to me.
You truly don't know what you're talking about here. It seemslike you're stirring the pot more than anything else.
And my judgment apparently means nothing to you. But that's silly given that you've provided attempts at factual examples that I've seriously considered and refuted, I've provided attempts at factual examples that you've ignored.
If anything, I'd say that you are trying to stir the pot, if you had any interest in an honest debate you'd be trying harder.
You've called me wrong three times, cited no facts, and made no arguments.
I'm not trying to be antagonistic mind you, but you're basically doing the debate equivalent of screaming "NUH UH" in annoying red text, and sticking your fingers in your ears. I can't spank you, because I'm not your daddy, but I also don't have to listen to your tantrums.
In-game canon is still not canon. Sorry. You lose.
And that is it from me in this thread. I refuse to waste my time and energy with someone who is only attempting to start trouble. People have pointed you towards actual canon-IE...the TV show, but yet you refuse to acknowledge it. Are you *that* insecure that you can't stand being wrong? Mind boggling really...and actually kinda sad.
I see you as what you are - a standard forum troll. And I will not continue to engage in any form of debate/confrontation with someone who is apparently only looking for a fight. Your posts read as extremely antagonistic; like you are looking for a heated argument. You may want to take a break from that basement of mothers and go outside. Go on, bask in the sun, it won't burn, promise!
Ships would be pretty much free reign as we only ever seen four Romulan ships on screen (Bird of Prey, D'deridex, Mogai, and the Romulan Shuttle). I am on the fence with the Scimitar as that is a Reman designed ship and in the Titan books, the Remans became a protectorate of the Klingon Empire and in STO, the Remans began an open rebellion.
Race, they face the same issue they had with the KDF in that on screen, there was only the Klingons in the KDF and only Romulans in the RSE ( though the Remans were a slightly known entity).
Abilities. The Romulans were masters of subterfuge. Therefor their uniqueness should be centered around a cloak and dagger mentality.
Wowie thats a good idea. Would definatly give a different feel to the game. I think it should have something to do with stealth exp though like the diplomatic system. The higher you are the deeper you can infiltrate the federation or klingons.
In-game canon is still not canon. Sorry. You lose.
That's called soft canon and, when it comes to developing THIS game, the in-game canon is just as important as hard canon. Think about it, if they just answered every fangirls whim that her favorite character be immune to Borg conversion, then suddenly Donatru would be unassimilated with no explanation. Terribly immersion breaking for everyone who's been mercy killing her over the past few months..

Actually someone told me, "GO REWATCH ALL OF TNG" in annoying red text, so that's not really pointing me to actual canon. But I've told you to go check out a specific episode to answer a specific point that you've made, notably that it's 'unromulan' of a military commander to betray the tal'shiar. Another argument that you've ignored.

Hmm, "go outside you troll." is becoming the go to line for children with nothing to say. I will take your, I'm sure well meaning advice, about my posts with the Rock of Gibraltar size grain of salt I keep for people who've show themselves to be utterly useless.
Okay, back onto topic with this thread. Given Cryptic's development limitations, for us to see playable Romulans in 2013 means either a micro-faction or a merging playable Romulans, but not necessarily the Empire itself, into one of the two big factions.
Now, a merging would likely be permanent. A micro-faction could later be expanded, but we've seen the pace that happens with the KDF and we've seen that the average forum going player is unhappy with that pace.
That depends on the circumstances, if a Tal-Shiar admiral gave temporary command to a Klingon chancellor, that would be betraying the Tal-Shiar as their alligence is strictly to the Senate, but it wouldn't last long though for that admiral will end up dead and a new leader put into place and revocation of that little oversight.

Eh, depends on the circumstances. But the episode referenced had a Romulan commander who just outright hated the Tal'Shiar because their every day, Gestapo style, policies affected her in a very real way.
perhaps, but with her father murdered by the Tal-Shiar, Toreth did her duty all the same even if she hated up to this point however that is just one commander, in the grand scheme of things it wouldn't even get a note on the continuing committee and in fact loosing two key political opponents to the Federation would of probably of ended her career, possibly imprisoned due her poisoned thought about the Tal-Shiar instead of paying due vigilance sooner.

And no ones going to argue that the Romulan commander who spilled the beans to our player character about the Tal'Shiar won't need to atleast look over his shoulder and stay out of sight for a good long while. However, it's not unromulan to hate the Tal'Shiar, it's not even unromulan to betray the Tal'Shiar or the empire as a whole, I rather think the show has outlined nicely with a pro-vulcan movement, multiple attempts at coups and multiple defections that it's very Romulan indeed.
Like I said, he may have been told, "We'll get your team up to 40. Your current numbers support that with lockboxes included. After that, though, we're not going to dramatically increase reinvestment. Work with what you have and build your goals around that rather than chasing growth."
Then I do not understand PWEs lack of desire to grow the Star Trek cow as fat as possible before deciding to let it stand on its on.
The Tal Shiar doesn't run the military. Their job is to look for threats to the Romulan people. Sometimes they mess with the Romulan people in the process but that isn't their real goal. The Senate rules. Although the Tal Shiar often does things outside their approval, the Tal Shiar's mandate is to support the Senate.
And that person is a well-known, long-established member of the community? Or is it a "KDF only" fan who just created one account just to be able claim that? The treachery can be on all sides, here. :P
Also, keep in mind you have to play for 20 hours to be able to post on the forums.
To be honest is there any point atall in them talking about a Romulan faction when all we hear is the kdf is lacking bad. Now I'd say push the kdf and bring them up to scratch before suggesting the romulans.
I remember that I could not post on the forums when I was a new f2p player back in January.
Your memory is faulty. There has always been a subset of the forums where you could post as a new player; what that subset is has varied, and I'm leaving out periods where there may have been bugs. This was true even when posting to the rest of the forums required a subscription fee.

Doesn't matter if you've played the game already. I made this account in under 2 minutes on a email I no longer use but is still a valid account.
SInce I've played STO already for years and can easily create new emails on Hotmail, Gmail or any other provider, its nothing to cheat these polls.
And no, I did not vote with this test of the system.
A victory gained through cheating is no victory.
Roach.
No wonder these polls are hardly ever followed. They have no security.
R.I.P
And with the old forums. And with most other forums, whether for games or anything else.
Yeah, basically!
That is why the best way to do a poll would be on the log-in screen of an account that has been active over X duration of time.
That won't completely solve the issue, but it will surely shore up some of the double, tripple etc. votes.
