The best is to do it private or in groups of known players. That said i have done at least 3000 eSTF pugs - and maybe 5% were really bad - so it's not that high - you just remember the BAD ones!! You don't usually remember the other 1000 that went on script.
This obviously states the guy is a damn imbecile. At this point I would have ignored him straight away.
Also, the second I would have noticed anyone is leechin... POOF... I'm gone... no one's gettin free rides on my back. Not even partial free rides. End of story. Theres plenty of afkr's out there and one of the reasons they exist is that they are encouraged by the other players indulgent benevolence.
Actually, both are potentially against the ToS, depending on how the moderator interprets the behavior.
However, it is highly doubtful that either report would result in action, so reporting is a waste of time.
In my opinion, calling someone who engages in such behavior a leech is simply an accurate description of their behavior and not against the ToS.
The entitlement is strong with this one, I mean, really, an optional?
Which set me to wondering, what category did he use for the report? I wonder if the GM reading that category laughed him out of dodge or took the appropriate steps for spamming the queue with false reports...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Wrong .TOS is used in this game by GMs to ban you for no reason.I was banned because I posted (not in zone chat ) that gorn doff called *****.For that got a 3 hour ban like thats my fault for naming that doff.Saying TOS means anything is BS.They will ban you for anything and use TOS as excuse.Ofcourse I cant blame the whole cryptic ,but their GMs are really a bad joke.
p.s, few months ago a guy got a warn for posting gorn jokes on esd zone chat. They are Gorn Managers .

I actually saw 2 people Rage Quit immediately after we lost an optional before. Insulted us and quit. Funny thing is... we still got our reward for finishing the mission while they just got a 1 hour leaver penalty.
Talk about immature. It was totally uncalled for to insult us for not getting an optional.
Had 1 last week who just sat with his cloak on,,,,,lol,,,,maybe he thought we couldn't see him.
You can get banned for disconnecting its happened to me quite a few times when the game has crashed,,,,,,

I have to stop you right there - EVERY time I have crashed or any friends have crashed or strangers in PUGS crash, as soon as load the game back up, it puts you back in to the STF.
Seen my friends drop from the team list, seen strangers drop form the team list - 2 minutes later, they come back and carry on.
The only exception to this, is if you disconnect and do not reconnect right away - in other words, your disconnecting for at least 10 - 15 minutes.
To me (and the game it seems), 10 - 15 minutes is no crash or technical hiccup, that is on purpose to mess up a pug group.
I was doing Mirror Universe Incursion event yesterday. I was fighting the groups of ships in the first part when suddenly a team member said "All hope is lost!" in team chat. I didn't think much of it since I was too busy fighting.
I finished off the last couple ships to spawn the Stadi.
And here is where it gets interesting.
I got the Stadi down to about 50% health when I suddenly realized.......why am I the only one fighting it?? I glanced over and saw only 1 player in the team. He kept trying and kept getting killed.
Me? I had the Stadi down below 1% health when I wound up with everything on cooldown and finally got killed. 3 seconds later, while I was waiting on the respawn timer, my plasma DoT finished off the Stadi and the mission was complete.
My 1 and only team mate that stayed to the end respawned and zoomed over to pick up our drops. He said something like "this is the second time this happened to me. i wonder if its some sort of game theyre playing". I'm guessing he meant people up and left before.
I'm guessing what happened is 1 or 2 players left and/or disconnected but never made it back before the event was over, and when they disappeared he thought it wouldn't be possible to complete it and quit himself.
Moral of the story: if that one idiot would have stayed, he would have gotten his reward, since I managed to solo the Stadi myself.
What is Pug exactly and what is leeching, not very experienced with MMO's this is really the only one ive ever played much
PUG = Pick Up Group. Basically it's a group made up of random people through the queue system. Leeching is where a person enters an event or mission and instead of actually playing, they sit off to the side and do nothing while the rest of the team does all the work. The leech then gets the reward at the end of the mission for doing nothing. Leeching can also be called "AFKing" during a mission.

Its prob to do with the fact i have to reboot every time it crashes and don't get back in in time,,,,,,
Leeching can be fun..... Usually when the ISE optional is blown i fix the messup destroy the nanites and the generators then sit back and watch the underpowered, underequipped pew pews try to tackle the gate and the cube (which is usually at the same time because someone ALWAYS agros the cube)...
It used to allow me to pick back up when I get a dc for a short bit, but as of recently it causes me to end back up where I first qued the mission from without a penalty. As for the other person saying 10-15mins is a deliberate attempt to ruin a mission, what if the person's power went out for a long period of time, or their internet is on the fritz, or any other possible number of reasons that would prevent someone from continuing playing hmmmm?
if you decide to sit idle for your playstyle...that is your prerogative.
other players may not like you much at the time....but Im sure nobody cares with a pug ( I wouldnt care about what some random internet player I will likey never deal with again thinks about me and my playstyle)...you wont ever see them again for the most part, so why worry?....there is always another mission.
I have no problem with leechers.... it makes the difficulty of the mission a bit more interesting....keeps things fresh and me on my toes , especially if I have run a mission a lot before.
I just pretend that their ship was disabled by an undetermined source (like Q or malicious nanites for instance).....
..... the "uncertainty of war"

I fly an Escort so I have always been much too busy in an STF to notice these leechers until it started to be posted on these forums.
Cruisers and Carriers have time to sit back and notice while beam baking/ pet spamming?
If you want to see leeching in action, just queue up for Mine Trap. I just came from one that had so many people looking for a free ride, it was almost a total failure across the board.

10-15 minutes? Dude, if your power is out or your internet is acting up for that long you would be disconnected from the game and your character removed from the map long before that amount of time. Longest 'server not responding' message I've ever received was about 3-5 minutes. If it's taking that long you're pretty much guaranteed to lose your connection. When you lose connection to the game your character is removed from the map after maybe a couple minutes.
What people are talking about in this thread is doing missions (mine trap as an example) which can take at least 15 minutes to complete, sometimes longer due to leechers, and 1 or more players are standing there the entire time of the misison. If they disconnected they would have 'left the match' and been removed.
Good example is a couple days ago in ISE we had a leecher. Sat there the entire time. As soon as the reward popped up his drop was taken and he left the map. That's not having trouble with your power or internet connection for 10-15 minutes.
Another example; in the same day I did Cure Space normal and 1 guy sat at the spawn point for about 3 minutes. I told the team he seems to be sitting there doing nothing and suddenly he charged right in, started shooting stuff, and helped us for the rest of the mission. He probably thought nobody noticed him and was afraid of being reported when I said something. Not like it would do any good to report anyway.
there report that person sent, for your team loosing optional wont even be thought about.
What they did is just wrong and some1 like that should just be ignored through out the whole Cryptic community.
"This is Admiral BumBleBush!..Captain of the U.S.S. Prometheus!..I order you to lower your shields and weapons or ill be forced to fire upon you!!!"
[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC] "This is Fleet Commander BumBle!..
Vice Admiral of the U.S.S. Prometheus!..
I order you to lower your shields and weapons or ill be forced to fire upon you!!!"
Just remembered another example of a leecher from the other day.
I was doing Azure Nebula Rescue when I noticed 1 player had flew way down below to the middle of the map, cloaked his defiant, and sat there the entire time of the mission.
This is getting out of hand... Today I did 2 infected s and 2 vaults in those I had 2 afkers in the first infected the 2nd one I did had one. The vaults I had a entire team of afk people then the 2nd one I did I had 2... Come on wtf is with this game?!
Why don't you (when I say you I mean cryptic) base the rewards off participation not completion because as it is I feel like quitting the game. These *******s can afk bot stfs all day and not have to help out what is the point of playing the game at all? Or is AFK BOTtING allowed now?...
not sure if you know what botting is....but that's besides the point here... they are just afk by choice, uncool ? perhaps....., but it's their prerogative..
and yeah....PUG at your own risk.
You say you feel like quitting ?...but yet you are putting yourself into the position where this behavior is enabled....in all reality there is no-one to blame for your disposition but yourself.
take another route...or stew in your anger.... it's your choice.

and i know what boting is. they can be both afk and bots. bot is where a program puts them in the stf afk is if they click on it to go in and leave the computer
It has nothing to do with the community being okay with it. We've made our complaints and Cryptic has said AFKing isn't breaking any rules and they aren't going to punish people that do it.
That leaves us with the options that have been mentioned above. Use them or not, it's your choice.
When did Cryptic ever say this? Quote or it didn't happen.

By definition slander has to be an untrue statement. There is nothing slanderous about asking other people to report a leech for leeching.
In addition leeching can fairly easily be classed as against the TOS under 10 j,k and if not most certainly n.
As I refuse to support leeches I then off my apologies to the team and quit.
I know that the report is an exercise in absolute futility as the powers-that-be have no interest in addressing the issue.
Actually, both are potentially against the ToS, depending on how the moderator interprets the behavior.

2) Just try to finish the mission correctly as best you can.
3) "NEED" everything so you can have some compensation if the missions fails.
