Take notice of the new paint job on the Jupiter, it looks as if the ship was spruced up a bit, there may even be a new mesh over the model. The windows and graphics look a bit less stretched than normal.

image is dark... might be a different hull type on that ship.

Even the Terran Empire uses the Jupiter-class dreadnought:

Seriously! I was also miffed about it's blueness! I mean, look at it! The entire thing is very blue and blue oriented. So are we to expect all Catian ships to be this color? I'm a bit upset that they didn't use a bit of a more neutral color like the normal grey, now it seems some dev decided that the Catian race likes blue...

    /sigh

Blue? You have a problem with blue deflectors and bussards? That's the only blue on it, making it very UFP. If anything the irredescing reds are way too Klingony. It's a purplish-brown, which also lends to looking very Vulcan. The general design reminds me a wee bit of the T'Pau class, of which I am a big fan. That and Romulan ships have lots of Green plasma lighting, not blue. Remans have that cyan-ish color going on.

Perhaps some of the design is in honor of the Reman's struggle for their freedom. Caiti is in that general region. Anyone know if the Caitians were also under Romulan rule at some earlier point? Just wondering. That may/maynot be a contributing factor. Either way I say, "Keep up the awesome work JamJamz".

I've got no problem with it being blue to start. That's fine. The problem I have is that there are specific parts that remain blue even when specific items that would change the color of any other ship are applied. Take the Reman shields for example, they normally turn the whole hull a greenish-aqua color. On the Atrox, the ship does get changed but many parts remain garishly blue.

It just seems odd that they would make the ship in such a way without allowing any variance of the color.

    Ah. True enough.

On a similar note. That unrolled nautilus shell part thing that Borg engines usually display on nacelles doesn't show up either. Surethe Atrox's nacelles are a bit more internal and could be hidden in the hangars. Either way, I kind'a wish that thing had alternate location options at the shipwright. Some peple aren't as big a fan of assymetry as I am. On purpose or a bug?

Looks like a definite Visual upgrade, Hopefully a precursor to being made a Playable ship,:D , At least I'm hoping it is.

Exactly my thoughts when I first saw it and noticed the differences. Fingers crossed!

With the new fleet bases coming out, we know that there is a level cap increase coming soon after. It's my hope that with any luck some new ships will be released as well! There is also the quasi-rumor that fleet bases will have some sort of ability to make ships/improve ships and hopefully, possibly the Jupiter may factor in either of those theories.

    Fingers crossed!

Odds are with these lockboxes and such with high priority on them that they more than likely just got started on working on season 6 and if they say mid june like they were saying... Its going to be rushed and a lot like season 4 was where the game was in disarray and most of the players quit once that happened. I hardly doubt we will see anything about season 6 till like the fall though. Possibly is wishful thinking to see it before beginning of 2013 if there is anything other than some new copy and paste events.

Sadly quite true... I know the plan was to have season 6 out for June, but I'm expecting to see it either July or August.
well they should be making the typhoon and the juipiter in season six which is by the way tommorrow.

Hopefully the Typhoon and the Jupiter both will be released in season 6. It was said once that the Jupiter and the Typhoon were being looked at for season five or 6, I'm still hoping for it!

I attempted to design a refit/variant which looks less ugly and more Starfleety, while still looking Juptierish. Not sure if I succeeded.

    GASP! IT'S PERFECT!

Kudos to you Phoenix!, It's great and I'd love to see those changes.

Would you mind if I posted a link to the pic on a few other threads? Also the first page of this one?

Most people's beef with the Jupiter is that it's nacelles are small and shrimpy and it's design lumpy. You've done a great job shoring it up!

I wonder what it would look like based on the design by Phoenix if the pillars in closest to the point of separation were removed and the two in the back were made a single piece closing out the read in a line with a concave curve like that seen on the D'Deridex Warbird (minus the elongation at the back). I can somewhat imagine it in my head but can't decide if I like it more or not.

No offence but why are you adding fighters. There is a reason why the Caitian Atrox Carrier is there.

We've wanted the Jupiter to be a carrier for FAR LONGER than the Atrox has ever been imagined. It's a two way street though. We've got builds for true Dreadnought Jupiters, Carrier Jupiters, Flight deck Jupiters, etc. Take a look around, there are many pages of discussion here and even more in the first Jupiter forums (found in my signature, first link).

No, actually, there is a reason a Federation Carrier is there.

There is very little reason for it to have been the Atrox, however.

I'm still hoping the Jupiter will be a Extremely heavy duty Tier 6 Battleship, you know a "True Dreadnought" :D

You know Snipe, I could go both ways... When I first started the Jupiter threads, I was actually fully against the Jupiter being a carrier. To me it had to have a minimum of 8 weapons and it had to have massive hull with an outrageous crew compliment. I wanted it to have some type of special ability that could increase it's survivability and boost damage potential at the same time!

Then I rolled up my Gorn Engineer and found out what all the fuss was about for carriers. After I played with the Vo'Quv for a few minutes I knew I wanted the Jupiter to be a carrier. Carriers are my favorite type of ship to play now, I can't imagine NOT playing one... However I still harken back to the days of my want of a DREADNOUGHT Jupiter and yern for that as well.

So what could be done to make the Jupiter a true dreadnought? Side weapons. 2 weapons fore and aft, 2 weapons port and starboard. Allow them to mount cannons and there you go. Dreadnought. Fire off a Gravity well, come up along side and open up with the side weapons and fore and aft weapons (depending on the outfitting, I'd have at least 2 beams for the broadside).

    One can dream...

Heck, why stop there! It's a dreadnought, let it equip dual heavies!

That's actually a really good idea for introducing a "new" style of ship, one where the broadside is quite literally a broadsiding of firepower. Few could argue balance issues as the way you're suggesting it those cannons wouldn't be firing in any direction but at the side, so coming at it from any direction would yield similar results. Worst-case scenario it just gets fitted with beam banks, and then what's the difference between any other cruiser?

I find that to be an interesting proposition. Also changes up the whole turn-radius issue if you specialize in just having cannons to face an enemy; now you always do, but have fewer while lasting a lot longer.

Yes! I'm definitely liking this idea here, and since it will most likely be a T6 ship these options are not overpowered :D.

I think a while back I was *****ing about this thread.

    I take it back.

Would be cool to fight this ship.

I could see it being a massive ship, slow as heck, maybe a 9th weapon slot.. 10 consoles, but 5 of them ENG

Huge Hull, but no huge shields.

And sure, in light of the new carrier.. give it 2 launch bays, shield repair drones, and hull repair drones.

Again, would be a cool battle.

    :D Well that's the spirit!

What do you think about the idea of side weapons? We discussed it a few posts up ^, what if the Jupiter had 2 fore and aft weapon slots as well as 2 port and starboard weapons? Also, allow it to equip dual heavy cannons on the side slots and torps. That would make for a COOL battle :P

Imagine, a broadside with some cannons and torps! It'd also be cool if Tyken's Rift and Gravity Well could be launched from the side as well... But that's a bit much.

Of corse as you said, MASSIVE hull would be nice. I'd like to say 50k, but since the Vo'Quv's been kinda shafted lately, so I'd just say give it the same hull as the good ol Vo'Quv (~42k).

    Yup, that'd be a dreadnought!

I'm hoping for the Jupiter possibly being released with season 6, seeing as how there are apparently going to be a ton of new/refit ships that can be obtained.

    Fingers crossed!
