Yes, I have been and I'll keep check checking to see if it turns up in auction. Those items are rare and bind on pickup though so I assume someone one would have to be awarded an extra one in a drop during event play to actually be able to sell it. But thanks for the advice! Ah! Excellent advice! Thanks! Ah! You're right,…
Yes, but I don't think Drifter Salvage will get me access to those two specific costume pieces, right? Or am I wrong about that? Or is there some path to trade drifter salvage or drifter items for winter favor that I'm not aware of? Yes but, I'd think asking for game advice is timeless, right? I mean it can't hurt to ask…
So far I've only decided on three themes for three of my alts.* Mr. Farlops, my android superhero, actually started off with a tune I came to love from years ago by the ska group, Dr. Calypso. The tune gave me a name and I invented the rest. * Cestus Ordinal, my homage to cosmic supers Silver Surfer and Ultraman,…
I have a few questions: how does everyone here take and save such clear screenshots of their nemeses and toons in the editor? Do you just screenshot via Steam or something and then clean it up in a image editor? Anyway, I've really only put together one nemesis for many of my heroes: The Quark Zombie. Born in a freak…
I've got a lot of alts that are robots and, given their alien outlook and strange origins, they take pride in looking as obviously machine-like as possible. But I guess I'd have to have humanize or organicize my alts to play this game, right?
Well, of course, you take the cloak off before running into combat. I bet a lot of legionaries, well documented cloak and poncho wearers, removed their ponchos before battle in cold, wet climates. The paenula, made of water repellent wool, was worn for warmth and to keep water and rust from their armor. But never mind, I'm…
So it's not just the frickin' laser beams we have to worry about? We got cybernetically enhanced sharks toolin' around in brain linked exoskeletons?! AHH! RUN AWAY! I think we need some dolphins in power armor to put them in their place!
I'm saying that Galactus, Day the Earth Stood Still, Pitch Black, Event Horizon, Alien and many other science fictional horror themes can be traced straight back to "The Colour Out of Space," "The Whisperer in Darkness," "From Beyond" and The Shadow Out of Time. Much of Lovecraft's later science fiction-y stuff reads like…
So having read him, I'd think Lovecraft, especially in his later science fiction stuff, might say there is a lot of overlap between categories 4, 5 and 13 than some might think. But pointless quibble aside, this sounds like lots of fun! I hope to enter a few candidates!
And I guess new developments in molecular chainmail mesh might do away with a lot of the heavy plating and layered chobham too. It's not about realism. I can dig it. Still like heavy suits though.
I like these heavy suits of power armor or cyborg bodies, Makoz and Menotrpa! I never really liked skin tight suits that are claimed to be powered armor. I never really liked Iron Man's old school 60s and 70s skin tight armor: It just seemed implausible to me because there's no place to hide the servos, linkages and…
I've read a lot of science fiction. Long before the imminent arrival of the Steel Crusade update and story arc, more than half my superheroes are robots or some closely related form of artificial life. As such I've cooked up a lot origin stories for robot superheroes. * Robot Lenin is an android whose brain runs a damaged…
A fellow former Paragonian here, Slightly more than half of my characters in this game are sapient robots in one form or another. What I do is treat each costume as an optimized body for a specific task. * one for heavy weapons combat * one for stealth and espionage * one for activity in space * one for underwater missions…
It's kind of hard to justify different costumes for a robot superhero. I've got a robot hero named Palace Guard, whose origin story is strongly inspired by Ray Bradbury's especially haunting short, "There Will Come Soft Rains." Mostly, I've been thinking along lines of different body designs for different purposes and then…
Well, I figure, since UNTIL is a United Nations agency I should just follow the UN flag which is white and either a shade of * Blue-grey (#6699CC) * Grey blue (#7D9AB8) * A shade of sky blue As I recall reading on Wikipedia, the UN never officially designated an official shade of blue. Anyway with those two colors chosen,…
So, on that note, I made a stealth suit for Gargoyle Null, putting in armored obliques to counter the wasp waistedness and leather texture to suggest plastic and carbon fiber as opposed to metal. Perhaps I should have chosen darker tones for running around in the dark but, instead, I stuck with the color combination in all…
In the end, I just made a few minor variations on her default uniform, swapping the skirt for tucked in pants, changing the jacket slightly, giving her a lapel flower and losing the cape. Pretty happy with the results so--it's all good. Thanks though!
I agree, the right tool for the right job. If stealth is needed, I suppose we can call Batman or Black Widow. But sometimes a sledgehammer is exactly what's needed. If you want to dish out some state of the art brutality in NBC combat? Call the Gargoyle! But maybe I should try my hand at a lightly armored and compact suit…
When building a character with power armor, I prefer to give them heavy, rugged and robust armor. I mean put those servomotors to work, right? Make the people believe the armor can punch holes through concrete walls! Make 'em believe that handguns are useless! I just can't suspend disbelief with some of the form fitting…
Thanks, I'll consider that advice too. And I'll consider this advice as well. I already spent the retcon token and started along the path selphea suggested but I might tweak things on the lines you both have suggested.
Thanks very much for that detailed breakdown! And thanks for the pointer as where to put discussions like this in the future. Now, I'm off to retcon and rebuild!
Luckily I have GIMP on my system and am experienced with using it. So TGA shouldn't be a problem for me to edit and convert to other formats. Thanks for the tip! Good tip! /bind sysrq renderscale 2 $$ screenshot_tga $$ renderscale 1 Is the above kosher syntax to tell the application to save the shot as TGA?
Continuing on the theme of robots on the march: Here is Mr. Farlops (As pointed to earlier.) in his late summer, Labor Day best: About ready to throw a chair into the amplifiers and public address system of Sapphire's party: For the unforgivable crime of not playing any ska music! He was arrested shortly thereafter,…
I've posted some of these in other threads but since I love seeing the robots others have dreamed up, I figured I'd join in. Here is Mr. Farlops: http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu43/farlops/9880_2013-03-30_00001.png http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu43/farlops/2013-06-22_00006.jpg He is a full conversion cyborg,…
Him and Fulcrum ought to team up! It is true that the stark simplicity of the UN flag makes it hard to really make a uniform that pops. But I found that adding a bit of black gives him a nice late Bronze Age feel.
Me, I try to shoot for the toughest looking female power armor. Lemme introduce Mabel Talbot, former US Army veteran, engineer and now security guard, PR stunt and deputized officer for Millennium City and UNTIL. She drives around a couple of suits of power armor affectionately called the "Gargoyle" series-- --mostly…
So I was wondering what those filters and digital effects you used so I could do something similar with my screenshots in GIMP. Care to explain your process a bit?
I'm inclined to agree with Bluhman, the better examples allow two colors to dominate but then throw a few splashes of other colors to moderate things a bit. I've got one blackredder but it has a few other colors thrown in to lighten it up a bit, a few bits of white, some yellow, a bit of lime green and there you go:
Well, perhaps as a reply to the patriotic fervor, I felt compelled to share my new hero who transcends nationalism, who fights for all civilization, who fights for all of us, who fights for the United Nations. I give you, Fulcrum: A mutant telekinetic with force bolts, force shields and superspeed.
I like the boxy head on Alche-Mech! I too am a big fan of designing robots in this game, having three or four myself each with different bodies to transfer to. I have a question about the glowing highlights, are those user definable? Can I for example, pick a portion of a costume piece, assign it the glow color and then…
Allow me to introduce a villain I created in City of Heroes that I ported here and made into a nemesis. Behold, the Quark Zombie: Quark Zombie is the radioactive corpse of a dead physicist being used as a puppet and conduit for a hyperspatial creature that exists in a realm many, perhaps infinitely many, orthogonal degrees…
Bah! We robots care nothing for your meaty "lurbing," loving or your vile, greasy "feels!" But seriously, thanks Cascadence! Oh yes, the body and face sliders allow for some pretty nonhuman contortions and proportions--and this makes building aliens and artificial life easier. There is still very much that I miss about the…
Inspired by fellow, former CoH'er Henri, I've got a few robots of my own to share. * Terror Engine (Side), inspired by this. * Terror Engine (Front) * Device Four, inspired by this. * Palace Guard (One), inspired by this and this and this * Palace Guard (Two) * Palace Guard (Three)
By the way, leihngwei, how do you generate a screenshot like you have in post #51? How can I do the same, have a pose of my hero and his or her biography next to them.
