I am not an apologist. I am not shilling for Cryptic. So don't paint me to be some evil conspirator!
I am simply stating a FACT that there is no P2W aspect in STO. The game is 95% PvE. The ONLY thing you get from pushing your stats to the max with real money is bragging rights, and a chance to AFK someone who didn't despite the fact they're actually playing the game.
We have a Dilithium>Zen conversion system in game. That means players can get Zen from other players by trading Dilithium. With time, you can get ANYTHING in the C-Store without spending a dime of your own. You just gotta work the Exchange.
Its Time vs Effort.
Is Cryptic a business? Yes.
Does Cryptic want to make money? Yes.
Does Cryptic put up paywalls for any story content? No.
There is absolutely NOTHING in game that is an absolute MUST HAVE to play the game. Yes there are a lot of things that will improve your build, but they are not required. This isn't old EA Battlefront 2 where you MUST give the Overlords money for a chance to stay competetive.
I mean we used to have people organizing low tier runs of Infected FOR FUN!
Everything in STO is nice to have, and may fit playstyles. But the fact remains that they are NOT REQUIRED to enjoy the game. Me not having the latest meta stuff does not impede my ability to enjoy the game. So why does someone feel the need to put up artificial paywalls when the truth is there aren't any to begin with.
Excuse me for being a filthy casual who doesn't pony up for the meta or instavape components. I ground out almost everything I got in game. I worked for it.
So with all due respect... drop it and lets continue with the actual topic of the thread.
I can't take it anymore! Could everyone just chill out for two seconds before something CRAZY happens again?!

Number one on my list would be to expand the Dominion into an actual demi-faction like the Romulans with leveling Vorta and "aliens" at the very least (and possibly some of the others like Dosi, or at least add some more items to the 'alien' generator) instead of the single race unlock with sketchy single starter scenario it is now. And of course change the name of the faction to the Dominion on things like ships instead of using the term "Jem'Hadar" on everything, especially since in the show they were never actually captained by Jem'Hadar, there was always a Vorta in that position.
Another thing would be to actually do something with the First Federation, right now it is nothing but a way of blocking off a large section of the map but a highly defensive trade culture like the FF has a lot of story potential for regular series style Trek stories even if they are not epic-format movie story material.
That leads to the third thing, a scattering of small random or cluster episodes that are more than a patrol but less than the full arc stories. Things like chasing down pirates instead of just helping someone else with the final mop up, investigating what seems to be pirates but finding out it is something else dangerous, dealing with terrorists or petty space warlords, or a number of other things. They could even be used to foreshadow other, larger things in a way that is not ridiculously obvious.
Also, some of the races need more ships, especially the Orions who have nothing but the ENT stuff based on Harad-Sar's barge and the fighters based on the Interceptor frigates. They are a very ancient culture in a sort of dark ages equivalent, they should have a wide range of designs from the ugly chunky barges to the elegant "filigree" styles like the Intruder in the game.
If you had posted this 3 days earlier I would have said a way to filter out other poster's inane signatures. Not all signatures are inane, but you cant pick just certain folks signatures to filter. Pet Tab is a serious want. Also random exploration missions that are not simply defeated by face rolling your keyboard with pew pew go boom. Actual science, and engineering based missions that firing your weapons are not an option. Missions where you have to repel boarders. Missions where you play as your bridge officers. Have I mentioned a Pet tab? Diplomatic missions that succeed or fail based on chat choices during the mission.
What would I add to the game, other than challenge.
Well, I'd slow production on episodes down a bit, and start working on a remaster. You know, rip the game apart and redo the base code. This way, I couldn't use the "Legacy Code" excuse for not being able to fix things.

these two will add more to RP, I would love more missions with special dialogue depending on your race, I know Fed players get a bunch if they play a vulcan like myself in a couple of missions, I would love it if KDF Races got the same treatment, orions, gorn, nuassicaans and letheans getting special dialogue in some missions would be a step up.
Different things like the reputation system adjusted so as not to be 50 plus days to complete and millions of res that most dont have unless you work your tail off to get it. The ability to remain on a fleet facility without ending up back in orbit.
Fewer bugs in old missions caused by the addition of new missions.
Fewer graphical issues in old missions due to the addition of new missions.
Fewer restrictions on event stuff that would prove far more useful if the restrictions were removed.
Re-engineering weapons being a choice instead of wasting resources on randoms that typically take 5 to 10 rolls to get the one you want so you have to spend hours trying to get enough tokens AND dilithium to do it.
Less random choices in prize packs.
EX: If you want a specific type of gun thats in a prize pack *ferengi ground weapons* it typically takes opening 50 boxes just for 5 guns if you prefer a specific weapon. Then it literally takes months in some cases to sell it on the exchange AND you cant ever make back what you spent on each item *no i am not talking about recovering the expense on the guns you keep.*
Events not needing 20 to 30 days to complete, Everyone has lives off the game and CANT guarantee the ability to be on every day to do the event daily. Some of us feel having to do the event 20 to 30 days is massive stress to have to do daily. Buyout option is wonderfull, however money doesnt grow on trees and most of us CANT afford a buyout option just cause we cant give an event 20 days.
Raids, space and ground. An actual reason to get rep gear. An endgame progression system. Endgame at this point for me is Admiralty. I think about doing the rep grind but it always comes back to what's the point?
Events typically require 14 out of 21 days to complete. I can't remember there ever being an event that required 30 days so.... congratz, you already have this.
Your argumentation will certainly help him to be all more excited about STO and it's events from now on.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I dont have to agree with them *and certainly dont* and never will.
and the intent of the message was to indicate 20 to 30 days was way overboard to ask for on a montly basis, 7 days would actually be far more reasonable.
Well, I'd slow production on episodes down a bit, and start working on a remaster. You know, rip the game apart and redo the base code. This way, I couldn't use the "Legacy Code" excuse for not being able to fix things.
While I find this comment amusing, I would like to point out that the legacy code is not really the problem, but rather, having enough actual coders to stay on top of everything. When they make comments like "We don't have the talent" it does not mean that they don't know how to do something, or are incapable of figuring it out. It means that they do not have the manpower, or more man-hours available to allocate.
If the Foundry and old exploration systems each had a dedicated CODER assigned to them while everyone else keeps on doing what they have been doing, then neither system would have had to be removed. Same thing goes for PvP, though it still exists, but in a fatally neglected state.
Also, what you propose would not just slow down episode production... It would grind it to halt. And the time it would take to systematically remaster the game, essentially recoding it - Especially with such a small team - They might as well just sit back and watch the game die...
But, if you were calling the shots, and this was the direction you would take, I assume that your first order of business would be to go to PWE and secure the budget increase necessary for you to hire enough coders to make it so.
Of course, I said it as a basic what I would do. But, I wouldn't do it without a sound plan before hand. Since you'd need that to approach CBS and PWE.
For example, I'd start off with the simple question of, What game engine to use? The old one we have? Perhaps Unreal? Maybe Cryengine? Using the old one would save on budget there, of course.
Then I'd turn my attention to assets, budget, and projected time frame. This would pull the plan together. For this, I'd definitely try to get some CGI personnel from CBS. Games may not be their specialty, but they have plenty of experience with coding. I'd try to hit them up for budget of course. But, this is where I'd mainly turn my attention to PWE. On this part, you could even approach Universal Studios as another potential means of assets and budget.
I wouldn't completely stop production of new content, unless I had $200 - $300 million to cover all the costs. But, even then, once could still new content, on a slower basis, so that it's coded for the current game and the remaster. Leaving only the older content needing a remaster.
I also know the difference when they use, "We don't have the talent." and "Legacy Code." Legacy Code means they have no one that knows how to work on the actual code for it, PVP and the Foundry are both examples of this. The Foundry more so, since they pulled it from both Neverwinter and Star Trek.
* Working day/night system with weather effects.
* Unrestricted outfit customizations (no categories anymore)
* No color choice restrictions on outfits
* Revamp of the entire code base to clean out bugs and make it easier and safer to expand
* Tovan Disposal Unit for removing Tovan's
* More baseball stuff to match up with what is in DS9's banners since not all teams have outfits
* A no to very limited NPC populated social zone with a high cap to allow for parties
* More bridge packs to fill in ships that didn't come with bridge packs
* Port over outfits from Champions to CO so there's a wider range of outfit selections and have some of them as drops from higher level STFs.
* Add the foundry back.
