I tested the Endeavor System last night on Tribble and was horrified at the implementation!
1. It takes up a huge part of the right side of the screen.
2. Any current mission you currently have is shoved off the mission box if you expand an Endeavor to see what it is.
3. The current mission is squished to one line requiring you to click a scroll button many times just to see where you are supposed to start your current mission.
4. Once in your current mission that mission's info is now gone from the info box. If you decide you don't like the mission and want to drop it or want to see the mission's info instead of one click as it is now, you have to click the Hail, navigate to In Progress and then you see the basic information.
5. So much space is taken on the right side from the Endeavor mission your right side vision is completely obscured.
6. None of this is optional! There is no way to opt out of an Endeavor. If you are not interested in it you can't remove the Endeavor and stays on the screen forever.
7. Some Endeavors are impossible to complete or forces the player to play in away they do not want to. For instance one Endeavor is to earn 10,000 Fleet Credits. I do not belong to a fleet and have no desire to ever join one. Thus I MUST join a fleet to get the Endeavor off the screen or put up with seeing this Endeavor on the screen all the time!
So shocked and horrified as I was from seeing this implementation I am now considering not renewing my subscription, have no desire to even do anything in the game now knowing what I will have to put up with come July 18th, and have lost interest in completing any Foundry missions I have in development! I am also Thanking God I didn't buy a lifetime subscription when I considered doing that this month! I certainly won't be buying any more ZEN with real money now either.
These are my current Endeavors over on Tribble:
1. Complete the Hive Onslaught Queue. I hate queued PVE and only do them if it is something really special like a weekend thing. I am not interested in it, but can't get it off the screen!
2. Successfully harvest materials in space. I assume that means R&D Materials, that's easy enough.
3. Complete the Counterpoint Queue. Again I am not interested and no way to opt out of it to remove it from the screen.
4. Earn 10,000 Fleet Credits. I am NOT in a fleet and don't want to join one, no way to remove this unless I join one!]
5. Destroy 20 Tzenkethi Ships. I played that zone once, hated it, have no desire to ever go there again!
6. Complete a mission in the Temporal Arc. Of all the Episodes I thoroughly hate the temporal ones! If I have to see Daniels again, I swear I will punch him in his condescending face!
7. Deal 25,000 Polaron Damage. You mean I have to go back, buy a weapon I got rid of because I didn't like it! How do I remove it from my list!
8. Defeat 20 Terran Ground Units. I didn't like the mission arc involving the Terrans in the first place and have no desire doing it again!
9. Visit 6 Systems in Tour the Galaxy. I was tired of doing Tour the Galaxy after doing it every day for a week. I don't want to do it again just to get this thing off the screen!
10. Repair 200,000 shields in space. Really!!!! I might do one mission a day and spend the rest exploring and playing with friends. So Cryptic now wants me to grid shield repairing for hours to get 200,000
11. Destroy 20 Tholian Ships. I don't mind destroying Tholian ships, but would rather do it when I am in the mood for Tholians.
12. Participate in the Dance Competition On, WHERE? Nimbus III or Risa? It is cut off because the Endeavors take up the entire mission pannel.
If this is how it is going to be on a daily basis after July 18th, I'll just take my money and the friends I brought to the game and go else ware. There MUST be a way to opt out of the Endeavor System and return the user friendly mission panel!
Not exactly a 'slap in the face' but a complete lack of consideration to the customer. I highly doubt any marketing research or focus groups were conducted with the customers (ie: the players) to base acceptance or rejection of the system. I think this is an attempt by Cryptic to push unpopular segments of the game on the customer by forcing the customers to constantly see it every time a customer logs in and the customer is unable to remove or hide it. Every time you log-in or change a map every Endeavor opens and you have to click the arrows to close them all down to just a bar for each one.
It is obvious Cryptic already decided to develop this Endeavor System and use it by first releasing an announcement about it, then giving a release date, and then put it up on the test server for testing. This is of course the wrong way to operate a business. Normal businesses test the changes with a group of users (such as on a test server) and judge user reactions, then decide if to toss it or release it to the masses.
When the Endeavor System was first announced my thought was. 'Oh this sounds interesting and something new to do.' and it sounded like something purely optional like missions and would be unobtrusive, but once I saw it my reaction was 'Absolutely no way! This takes up too much screen space! How do I get rid of it so I don't have to have it on the screen?'
Out of the 12 items listed by @redbeard#5284, the Fleet credit one is the only target I would potentially meet.
None of those other things I do.
I battle Tholian ships if they appear in a Fleet Alert queue, but I don't actively seek them out unless I have a new ship that needs Trait mastering (done via Tholian Red Alert).
And honestly, if the specified task is "use weapon damage type", I will ignore it unless I have a character who already uses that damage type.
I am not going to requisition 7-8 new ship weapons just to meet the "damage flavor of the day".
I only use Polaron and Antiproton, so it has to be one of those two.
Since I have no interest in the Endeavor system, I was just going to change the UI settings to hide that window.
At least, I'd better be able to do so!
I don't want to have this window permanently visible when the information is irrevalent!
If I have made the choice to not participate in content, reminding me to do so is just disrespectful.

It's kinda hard to ignore something that pushes the mission objectives list off the screen, isn't it?
As I understand it, the point of this system is encouraging players to do unpopular content and experiment with gear they might not otherwise use. Not a bad idea. Also not something I would spend precious dev time on when non-trivial parts of the game are a mess (PvE queue interface, Tzenkethi battlezone, duty officer missions, sector space autopilot... to name a few).
Adding an unhidable, obstructive UI element is going to have an effect opposite to the intention. Make it optional, not obnoxious.
I thought many have asked for some incentive, say on a weekly basis, to highlight a Queue, for example, by giving extra rewards. Well here it is. Don't understand the hate.

Things I want in STO:
1) More character customization options such as more clothing options, letting the toon complexion affect the entire body, not just the head. Also a true RGB color picker applied to all costume and appearance options, which would allow for true appearance customization and homogenous colors instead of "this same exact color looks vastly different on two different pieces."
2) Bridge customization, not bridge packs. Let us pick a general layout and adjust the color palette, console appearance, and chair types, as well as more ready room layout options.
3) Customizable ground weapons, i.e. The aesthetic look of phaser dual pistols but they shoot antiproton bolts. For obvious reasons this would only apply to standard ground weapons.
4) For the love of Q please revamp Plasma Ground Weapons. They look like demented Supersoakers right now.
5) True Vanity Impulse and Deflector effects similar to Vanity Shields.
6) A greater payout for hitting T6 Reputations. Currently it takes more time and resources to get from T5 to T6 than it does to get from nothing to T5. Make that grind really pay out at the end.
7) Mirrorverse Refugee event similar to AoY/Delta/Gamma, complete with new Mirrorverse recruits for all factions.
8) Independent Faction, because yo ho yo ho a pirate's life for me!
Just as a heads up, although this was mentioned in both the Tribble patch notes and the Stream.
The Endeavor System on Tribble is giving you access to 10-15 Endeavors in an unfinished UI so that all of them can be tested. There will be only ONE Endeavor live at a time when the system goes live. It will take up a single slot above your mission menu.
Imagine if the idea of the daily thing was to give you an incentive to do stuff you don't normally do.

I do comprehend the frustration of having an obtrusive UI element.
Lately, I have been wishing STO had a more cinematic feel, less HUD elements, so it looks like the show.
It feels to me like I am playing ViewScreen Online.
My particular annoyance is the Need/Greed popup, especially when multiple enemies have been defeated and somebody feels the need to pick up everything that dropped.
I am uncertain if that can be disabled, but I highly doubt it.
As for using gear not already equipped/requisitioned, there is a cost to doing so, resources, dilithium, depending on the method of acquisition.
So for example, if you went to pick up 7-8 tetryon fleet beam arrays because your ship is using polaron, you've just used up fleet credits, fleet requisitions and dilithium for a one time use.
And then you have to store those items for the next time it comes around.
If the damage target cycles through all the types available, it will require you to keep 35-40 different weapons in your storage bank just in case.
If the gear target was something else, like use torpedos or console/ship set M, then I'd be even less inclined to do it.
I don't use torpedoes ever.
Swapping in another gear set changes my ship abilities and removes the active bonuses/skills.
Which would result in having to modify the skill bar layout each time.
To be direct, nobody, not a Dev or another player has the right to tell anyone how or what to play.
Suggestions can be made, but the choice to do or not is up to the individual player.
If the choice is made to ignore the Endeavor system completely, then that must be respected.
Which is why I am hoping the Endeavor element can be switched to "hide" when accessing the HUD layout.
If someone isn't interested in it, then it will be like it doesn't exist.
But if the hide function isn't available, then it is obvious they are making this feature "optional mandatory".
For some personal context, there was an mmo I used to play that didn't allow players to "opt out" of missions.
When your character reached level cap, they were given a mission manditorily with no option to decline acceptance.
Since I couldn't stand that mission, it was constantly irking me I couldn't remove it from the log without playing through it on every character I had!
And that mmo also had a system similar to Endeavor, I had to cycle through many boring goals to get one thing I wanted to do.
That is why I don't believe encouraging players to do content they are actively avoiding or making goals unhidable should be permitted, because of prior unpleasant experiences.
Bees like honey, they don't like vinegar.

I decided to inspect the Endeavor system for myself on Tribble:
1. The button to "Drop" the mission is disabled.
2. The window that holds the Endeavor information is the Mission tracker. While that can be hidden, this will also make your mission/queue progression non-visible.
3. With a mission set to "Primary", the Endeavor system is still at the top of the list. Setting a mission to Primary should take it to the top of the list above all other active priorities.
Based on the evidence so far, I can only conclude that this is still an "optional mandatory" system, that it has been specifically designed not to be ignored.
I really hope it is not like this when it goes to the live server!
The Endeavor system should have it's own independent window that can be hidden.
And the drop button should be enabled so the missions can be dropped if the player decides not to do the mission for that day (or at all!)
I think the best option would be to add the Endeavor contact as an optional hail, so the player has to intentionally activate the mission.
That way it is not automatically added to the mission list at all.

They drop themselves every 2-3 days, that's enough. There's also nothing mandatory about them. except that you can see them in the current iteration. If it doth offend thine eyes to simply see them, that is something that you'll probably have to get over.
This is an MMO, not a Star Trek episode simulator. That would make for a terrible game.
After like 3 days you wont notice the endeavor thing anymore. Same as the rest of the UI.
Rumor has it the live version will flash until you press an acknowledge button. If you continue to ignore it while it's flashing you'll get a voice over reminder starting with "Kurland here..." every 2 minutes.
They drop themselves every 2-3 days, that's enough.
Only to have more added. They are everyday. Not something that comes up every few days.
That is cause for further concern.
I hope it isn't a case of incremental increasing.
As in, ignore the first one/don't do it, get two more until you have three active all at once.
It may look like this is nothing to be concerned about, but in my personal experience, if a small change like this is allowed to pass, then it will be taken as encouragement/endorsement that further "optional manditory" changes are approved/accepted. It's easier to flatten the sandpile now then it will be to demolish the mountain later.....
Basically, by the time any player reaches the cap, they will have experienced enough of the game to know what they enjoy and what they do not.
And the allure of doing the same task on other characters diminishes, so over time, the players just cease to be active other then to do the tasks necessary for gear crafting/requistion and fleet advancement.
To be told we have to keep playing "because we aren't playing enough" is not an issue that can be solved with sticking a reward on old content.
If the players should be motivated to start playing more, give them reasons to do so.

BTW, F12 is your friend. rearrange the UI if the text boxes are too small.

Only to have more added. They are everyday. Not something that comes up every few days.
My character Tsin'xing

Can we get John Delancey to record this?
