So, from the OP's mention of it...does anyone know what this "blue beam weapon" actually was? Tetryon beam array, tachyon, destabilizing tachyon, one of the novelty lock box weapons?

Sounds like Destabilizing Resonance Beam. Combined with APA and certain attack patterns it can do massive damage on builds with high PartGen.

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

Alright. As the original poster of this thread let me lay out all my cards too you.

I'll try to keep it short and to the point.

This post was an original wtf thread when I witnessed a player destroying Cube's and the Command ship in litteraly 1 shot kills. Then it kinda turned into a DSP bashing thread. But I don't want it to be a bashing thread and it was wrong of me to take it down that avenue.

I've played Star Trek Online on and off since the Beta release. I love Star Trek, I love the gameplay and I love the story line driven missions. I can quote you the lines of dialog in missions but when it comes to understanding how ship builds, powers, buffs etc stack and work out in the field.. I suck hard.

Just lately I started to really focus on my build and I worked hard to get things, craft other things, upgrade my stuff etc. As I played through the story arcs again and again it came to the point. Where I could play through all the missions without being defeated.. Blowing up enemy NPC ships in missions etc was easy as 1-2-3 cake.

Then I tried PVP and PVE. And tried out the red alerts and stuff since I no longer had any new missions to complete and I grew a bit tired of re-playing them.

And now to my suprise my build was horrible, I could not surive for more than a second. I couldn't damage other players shields even before they knocked my hull down to 0. And when I was in that Borg Red Alert working my TRIBBLE off with a few Cube's and that player came and just instantly blew them up... That drove me over the top.

Now I got a notice in the corner of my screen of a 2 hour AFK penalty. I believe this was from the red alert. It could be from the PVE mirror thingy I did earlier? I'm not sure. I noticed it just after the Borg RA.

Now, why this turned into a DPS bash thread? Well the really short and simple answer is that I've tried to play this game since the release and I've honestly always sucked and I don't really have any idea about ship builds. And like mentioned, now I had something that was epic since I was able to defeat NPC's like a breeze and then I was knocked back to square 1.

That is a very repeating factor for me in this game, I keep getting knocked back to square 1.. During my time here since Beta release I've only had a few friends, right now I only got 1 person in my friends list. I've never really been in any fleets as I find it hard to fit in.

I've tried to get help with my ship builds from older friends, people ingame, the forums and reddit.. And sometimes I am given advice on how to improve etc. But the main issue is that no one explains WHY. They just look at my build, tells me I'm stupid and it's horrible. Then they give me a list of things to change without explaining anything.. Then when I show someone new, after I worked hard on changing things. They give me a new version of what's wrong.

For example. I was told to only use Neutronium Armour consoles because that was the best ever setup.. Then someone teached me about how EPS was important so I had to change a lot of stuff again.. And when you more "pro" players in the term of players and builds speak you always use so many abbreviations and I barely understand any of them. And when you ask for more help the players just turn unpatient and mad at you.

And sometimes when you approach more powerful people, you often get bashed out. How bad you are at the game, how much you suck. What a TRIBBLE you are etc.

Now in my head since I've always been knocked back to square 1 even though I've been here since beta. It's a horrible feeling to be here since beta release and most new players just advance past you. And when you team up with someone they are all super powerful and you just sit there and can't do anything.

That's why it turned into a DPS thread, since I was never able to come up to your level in power. The only logic in my head was to bring you all down to mine... lol.

And I am sorry for that. So I ask you, instead of making a DPS hate thread.. Maybe you guys could help me? Seeing you are all better at this than I am. But if you are going to help me.. Please be patient and help to explain, don't use all the abbreviations because I don't understand anything. And don't get mad at me and call me stupid etc.

I don't have any friends in this game, I love the storyline and the missions are no problem for me. But in the social setting. I have no fleet I fit into and whenever I team up.. People are so overpowered that teaming with me for them is more an annoyance. It's like dragging your 10 year old brother to a bachelor party.

I'm sorry I got upset and turned this into a DPS hate thread.. It's just very frustrating to spend and log so many hours in the game without being able to understand anything of the core aspects of something as "simple" as a ship build, while you watch everyone advance past you and mock you in the process...

I'm sorry. So instead of a DPS thread, would anyone like to help me improve? Without all the fancy abbreviations and the short "just get this and this". lol..

    :/

Uh... what other games actually tell you how to make a decent build? :p I've never played one...

I tend to agree with this, as I haven't played any myself.

Also, I find many games still being made to this day, that people have to rely on manuals and wiki or youtube sources, to achieve wins!

Shattered Galaxy, Earth & Beyond, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Rift....

just some of the ones that popped up in my head. Mind you, they don't tell you, but they teach you. Now, if you wanted min-maxing, you had to turn to the pro's/forums/trial-n-error.

It sure it can be buffed by partigens, on my Scryer it does some wicked good damage, I mean in MI a combo of QDB + DRB + Isokinetic Cannon could kill the mirror dread in about 5 seconds.

It's currently at 4500 damage for 10 seconds with a partgen skill of 290 on my Geneva class build i'm using.

Hardest part is keeping it on target though as you've gotta go the full 10 seconds for max effect. Apparently you can fire off the QDB, DRB and the Vesta deflector beam all at once for a massive science alpha strike.

Instead of complaining about it make a DPS ship. It sound more like you are jealous that you can't do it than fair play. The game put in the ability to make high value DPS ships for min maxers like myself, yet still be playable by casual players. High DPS players are not bullies they are dedicated to their craft. Would you rather go to a surgeon that was the head in his field or the the guy that has various lawsuits and reprimands from the board. According to you you'd rather the latter. Your emotions show through your writing Kate. Think about what you are saying before you say it. Jealously is an ugly emotion. Use the energy wasted in your jealousy and make your character better. you will be a much happier person.

That's true. And I can still tractor on since QDB doesn't cost BOFF slots. I could approach and QDB and then slam them in warp plasma afterwards. pig-2.gif

This was completely unnecessary. She already said she did not want this thread degenerating and had asked for advice on how to improve her build. Which has had the response of people helping her.

This post was extremely unhelpful and very rude. It would have been more helpful had you taken a look at the build she posted and given advice rather than what you did post.

But as to the Earth & Beyond reference from a couple of posts back.. God I miss that game. You actually were able to leave your ship and walk around space stations and whatnot. Crude, but way ahead of its time and of course Sony didn't want any of that with SWG in development at the time.

Some people just enjoy being complete a$$#oles, and think their DPS justifies it. Whatever can be said of anti-DPSers (and I don't doubt plenty are true) I have seen nothing worse than what the elitist trolls have posted.

Yes, I know, and it really baffles me as to why someone would enjoy being like that.

Perhaps they were bullies as kids and it translates into this when they're older (I refuse to call such people grownups or adults) and it's the only way they know to be.

At any rate, if they think it makes them look good to troll others, it does not. It only makes them look childish and immature.

To people like you and me, no he don't look too good. But the bullies generally have popularity and the administration on their side. They get to be the stars of the show, and anyone who has an opinion different from theirs gets slammed and damned. It's a shame that the way it is in High School is apparently the way it is here. :|

It's a crying shame that bullying is looked upon as 'normal' these days. It's also a crying shame that people no longer know how to debate in a respectful manner.

It's a real crying shame that elitists (whether DPS or any others) feel the need to be jerks to get their point across. Personally, it makes their point obscure and not worth much when they feel the need to insert insults into it.

From there, you can deduce effective builds for that frame while not going over weight requirements, etc.

So yes, they do teach you what could be very good for X, Y, or Z.

That game was WAY WAY ahead of its time in Stress/Alpha/Beta testing. Even the character models and customization levels were fantastic, even to today's standards. A lot of us were bummed that a few weeks before release, EA decided to wipe almost all of that and go w/ a different direction.... and that's just w/ the models....

Best way to beat a bully... beat them mentally and don't let them beat you mentally. Once they realize you won't back down ever, they'll try their hardest to break you initially, then back off when they can't break you. They lack endurance against someone willing to stand up to them.

Uh... what other games actually tell you how to make a decent build? :p I've never played one...
I tend to agree with this, as I haven't played any myself.

Also, I find many games still being made to this day, that people have to rely on manuals and wiki or youtube sources, to achieve wins!
Shattered Galaxy, Earth & Beyond, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Rift....

just some of the ones that popped up in my head. Mind you, they don't tell you, but they teach you. Now, if you wanted min-maxing, you had to turn to the pro's/forums/trial-n-error.
Unless it's more complex than "mages do more damage with high Int.", I wouldn't consider it "teaching".
They don't tell you, "These pieces of gear will give you the absolute best results in the game." but they do teach you that, "Int boosts mana pool and spellpower, but some specs utilize crit more than others", or, "Some robots/ships are more efficient w/ power, and therefore have lower power requirements." From there, you can deduce effective builds for that frame while not going over weight requirements, etc.

So yes, they do teach you what could be very good for X, Y, or Z.
Which is pretty close to the same level of information you get from reading the character skill descriptions in STO...
Not even close. Play those games and see for yourself.
Nope. too many games to play already. :p Maybe you could show a screenshot or two perhaps? :p

I have played DDO, and it has virtually no turtorial for actual gameplay! [The starter turtorial TRIBBLE on the beginning island, is no brainer stuff]

In fact, a large portion of the most difficult missions in that game, require online research or player training to accomplish!

Why do you think for myself, that playing that MMO than coming to play this one, was such an easy peasy learning process?

Because this one requires little to no thought on 80% of everything!!!

Not that this is a good thing, but this game is exactly that, easy peasy!

I was thinking it might be the 3 piece power from the Sunrise set, the Quantum Destabilizing Beam.

That's also possible. There's quite a few options actually if the OP had not mentioned the beams were blue.

E.g. the lance weapons from the intel ships, Gurumba and Galaxy-X and so forth.
It should be noted that i can almost one shot (one shot if crit) the cubes and tac cubes in the red alerts on my fed engineer.
Though i have a number of high Deeps builds i usually prefer spike build, torpedo strikes and space magic.
