3/3 weapons? Really? On a ship that massive at Tier 6? At tier 6 we got cruisers and escorts fielding 5 fore, at Tier 5 we even have that. Since tier 4 my tactical officer has recieved ships with better weapon loadouts, more hull, and general great improvements. My fellow science players on the other hand have gotten what boils down to a Tier 4 science ship with slightly better hull and bridge layout, sometimes with a fancy costume.
This ship, going by the size comparison to the intrepid tweeted the other day. is massive. As big if not bigger than an Odyssey and easily twice the mass. So why 3/3 why not finally give science characters that little bit of DPS they've been lacking for nearly 6 years and give them 4/3? It's certainly not game breaking. As a carrier, as a ship this massive, it should easily field a 4/3 if not a 4/4 loadout.
On an unrelated note, the Callisto model should replace the Yellowstones that are called in by the pilot Reinforcements Squadron

something I didn't catch since Thursday (the normal patch day) is get fat on food day and prepare for the madness at the stores night.
But, it is of little matter to me since I will stick with my t5u vesta.
Also, just to add to the crazy arguments here about the ship...why cant it get pilot skills too, something that big should be able to barrel roll no problem, it also needs 14/36 weapons placement nothing but turrets that are shield powered, and a giant snowcone maker in the special bridge design....
So very happy to see the carrier make a T6 appearance. Now my FED Admirals can fly their pennant from a Flagship that is not a cruiser.
When I don't want to fly a beam boat A2B build, there are fun alternatives besides Drake builds. I am sorry for the many Tac -Beam cruiser & newer STO gamers who do not understand a Carrier with SCI / Intel. There is hope for you, but if you never learned the Breen carrier, or the Klingon carrier, this FED carrier will also be a mystery for some time. I have played several Sheshar builds with both the Command Variant and the Intel Variant for my primary who gets all the Elachi lockboxes. I vastly prefer the Intel version. The current pet AI is less than it was, but then I don't use carriers in PVP ... ever ... wow- sorry the negative vibes in those posts might be contagious. Where is the quantum shifter thingy? Ah!

I am going to laugh when the DPS channel blows a fuse trying to DPS a carrier with 20+ DPS as if it were a cruiser. Yeah elitists, welcome to the poor man's life, where we use the workhorses of the fleet. But seriously cryptic shut up and take my money for this one, I am saving zen for this.

Now, back to the carrier. I like, and I will get. I am a little confused with the crescent shape on the ventral hull. Shouldn't that be a secondary deflector?
What is the role of a carrier ship in general?
Its role is to be the operations-center of a battlegroup, it is a flying/swimming fortress, a mobile command center where the battle is organised and controlled. Its main purpose is to support from distance. A carrier is just effective in a group of escort and battle-cruiser ships. It does not engage the enemy on its own, it has a lot of fighter-type vessels that can be send to attack the enemy. A carrier is a massive slow moving vehicle, but it moves constantly and marches towards an area where it can be used to take control and patrol it with its small fighters.
What class should a carrier be in STO?
There are 3 classes in this game. Tactical, Engineer & Science. Tactical is the Damage-Dealer one, Engineer is the one you would call "Healer" in other MMO's, while Science would be the "Wizard" or "Magician" type. The Latter, Science, is the support class in this game. So a pure carrier is obviously a Science ship. Dont mix it with hybrids like Escort-Carriers. We are talking about a carrier-only ship here.
So following these assumptions, I would make a carrier (fleet t6 stats here) like this:
•Console Modifications: 2 Tactical, 4 Engineering, 5 Science
•Base Turn Rate: 4 degrees per second
•Impulse Modifier: 0.10
•Inertia: 20
•+10 Shield Power, +15 Auxiliary Power
•Hangar Bays: 10 (yes, ten!)
•Starship Ability Package (Science Carrier)
•Built-in Point-Defense-System
•Cruiser Commands: Shield Frequency Modulation & Attrac fire
•Hyper Advanced Quantum Slipstream Drive (60 sec Slipstream instead of 30)
•Can load Dual Cannons
(NO Sensor analysis & NO Sub-System Targeting & NO 2nd Deflector)
As you see the carrier-ship itself has practically no offensive abilitys, but it is a hell of a tank and able to spam tons of pets. Damage can only come from Sci-Stuff and pets, thats why it has 10 Hangar Bays (Frigate-Pets should be limited to 1 or 2 maybe). The reason why I dont want to see SA, SST & 2nd Deflector on a carrier is, because it is not a pure-science ship, its focus is on the carrier-command-support role.
Alternatively, I think this could also be made an Engineering ship, with focus on healing-support. So you could spam those Repair-Drone Pets for example.
The only thing wrong with the Jupiter (besides not being the superior Beta design) is the game community's own metagame. They've FAW'd for so long that they've blasted away the expertise required to have success in a carriers. They've gotten off easy for far too long with dreadnought carriers and pets with Attack Pattern Beta.

Something I've wondered about for a long time is why there aren't any 3 or 4 hangar, proper carrier ships. I'd even take 2/2 weapon slots on the thing if I could send out an actual fighter group instead of just 12 buddies laughing about.

A question about the 2 Callisto Light Escort hangar pets...
In terms of functionality and fire power ( generally speaking ), would having 2 Callisto Light Escort hangar pets be about the same as having two Defiant class ships as pets or more like when the Prometheus splits into three parts?

i WISH that this Ship was Similar to the Voquv (T6 upgraded) but NOPE, Voquv has a LtCom Tac AND 4 Tac Consoles (Fleet T5U)
so if at all, than its like a Voquv with its teeth kicked in. Like i said before, this is nothing but a Reskinned Atrox V1.5 with frigattes Enabled, so another Science Heavy Carrier when there is allready one, sorry but i dont buy this NOT even for a DOLLAR

with a proper Pet AI they could be deadly (like the Vadvaur AI for the Assault Ships) but with the AI that we have, all they will do is to fly Circles around the enemys and fire with their 2 Turrets, and of course chase after every Warp Core Breach they can find, to blow themselfs up, like all pets like to do

i hear ya.....waiting like forever for a Jupiter and Typhoon...now we at least get something that is called the Jupiter Class and resembles it..when in fact its nothing but a Atrox V1.5....yep i definately hear ya......
After some discussion, we finally settled on making a Carrier. Starfleet players have access to plenty of Escort and Cruiser options, but not very many Science ships and even fewer Carriers. This gave us a perfect opportunity to fill that gap.

With each passing day I wonder if I stepped into an alternate reality. The Cubs win the world series. Donald Trump is President. Britain leaves the EU. STO gets a dedicated PvP season. Engineers are "out of control" in STO.
