Excellent work on the new Jupiter-Class Carrier. This will certainly see use in the near future. I am also impressed by the Callisto-Class Light Escort. They will be quite useful in a situation. Excellent job.

    Sincerely,

Looks interesting. Personally I'd rename the trait slightly and call it "Injury to Insult" instead and I'm a little surprised the Callisto's advanced and elite variants don't get quantum torps but that's just me.

I was glad I wasnt drinking when I read the part about Fed players having "not very many Science ships". They do realise they have a LOT more than both other factions combined don't they?

Still waiting to be able to use forum titles

It's literally the Jupiter class now. People that claimed it wasn't were WRONG pig-2.gif

But it's pretty clear that this is the design you guys (devs) were going for. Or would it be named Jupiter even if, say, Delta had won?

After some discussion, we finally settled on making a Carrier. Starfleet players have access to plenty of Escort and Cruiser options, but not very many Science ships and even fewer Carriers. This gave us a perfect opportunity to fill that gap.

Yes. And KDF and Romulan players have no science vessels at all (other than a T5 support vessel). I hope this means that part of the game does get some attention as well, because that line of thought above invalidates any form of "faction exclusivety".

What would have been nice is if the Callisto light vessel would come as a small craft for people purchasing the Jupiter, like the D'Kyr bringing it's own small craft as well.

Not impressed with the bridge officer layout at all, other than the CDR science seat. Maybe they will fix pet AI with this release. The raider pets on the Vonph are just dumb. They take forever to get moving, then to get to the fight, then to actually fight. Other pets are about the same, just not as bad.

I really like carriers, and I had high hopes for this one, but... the boff layout killed it for me. :(

3/3 weapons? Really? On a ship that massive at Tier 6? At tier 6 we got cruisers and escorts fielding 5 fore, at Tier 5 we even have that. Since tier 4 my tactical officer has recieved ships with better weapon loadouts, more hull, and general great improvements. My fellow science players on the other hand have gotten what boils down to a Tier 4 science ship with slightly better hull and bridge layout, sometimes with a fancy costume.

This ship, going by the size comparison to the intrepid tweeted the other day. is massive. As big if not bigger than an Odyssey and easily twice the mass. So why 3/3 why not finally give science characters that little bit of DPS they've been lacking for nearly 6 years and give them 4/3? It's certainly not game breaking. As a carrier, as a ship this massive, it should easily field a 4/3 if not a 4/4 loadout.

On an unrelated note, the Callisto model should replace the Yellowstones that are called in by the pilot Reinforcements Squadron

Isn't there already a ship called the Jupiter Class? The old dreadnought that used to pop up in Starfleet patrols?

Also, with no offence to the design team, one of those variants looks just a little too much like a Prometheus variant to me.

This is the replacement for it.... I'll probably get retconned out.

So, when can we expect the similar good development blog on the KDF and Romulan counterparts?

Seeing as you mentioned the lack of science vessels on Federation side, surely you must have noticed the absolute count of zero T6 Romulan and KDF science vessels, and at T5 only 1 on KDF side and 0 on Romulan (not counting the Dyson Schizofrenic Destroyers, since you cannot call those proper science vessels). Yes, at least the KDF gets the Vo'Quv with some science options. I guess this is gonna be the T6 Carrier for KDF, with Romulans getting another design contest?

(for the record, this post indeed contains so much sarcasm that if you were to place a golden bucket under it, you could have your own Gold-Pressed Sarcasm. This is because I am absolutely unimpressed by the incredible lack of KDF/Romulan T6 science ships, which forces my KDF main into the Sarr Theln. Which is a good ship, but not a Klingon one).

I like the Callisto, a nice to see an Aquarius variant.

Any chance we'll see a player pilotable version, perhaps as a variant model or T6 version of the Aquarius?

    Interesting...

Intel? I would expect a Carrier to be the perfect fit for Command.
Pets are of course notoriously bad with dual cannons - wonder if the Lock Trajectory ability will solve this issue...

The stats for the Tier 6 Vo'Quv come tomorrow?

Visual variants for the new Carrier not available?

If you read the blog, you'll note it says and I quote "Very early on, we were pretty sure this ship could potentially replace the Jupiter class Dreadnought. It later occurred to us that the ship could truly do so by assuming the Jupiter class name." So yes, there was and it's being replaced now.

Just want to adress that: If you need weapons to add dps do your science build you're doing it wrong pig-2.gif besides, what would that one fore weapon give you? A sci ship needs as much sci consoles as possible to deal damage. I agree however that 4 sci consoles and those stats are, from a science point of view, rather subpar compared to the Pathfinder/Intrepid and Nebula.

I'm glad to see Starfleet's finally getting that escort hangar pet I've always wanted. I'm looking forward to seeing the Callisto class in the store as well. My old Sabre class has been gathering dust because it's underpowered. I'd still like to see a carrier focused bridge pack though.

Hmm, most interesting. I would have guessed a carrier would have been Command instead of Intel... Not complaining, could be fun!

I am surprised that Starfleet's first playable carrier is also a sci carrier just like the Atrox (which isn't Starfleet, but borrowed from a member race). An Engineering carrier would have been better in my opinion...

Still, stats look good, and those Light Escort pets. Mmmm, I'll need more Zen...

So where is the KDF ( and Rom) T6 carrier? Carriers were origionally KDF faction ships and now with the first T6 faction carrier released the KDF don't get one? This is a disgraceful decision and continues showing the total disregard and disrespect shown to the KDF player base. I guess its just annother case of SSDD as far as Cryptic and the KDF are concerened.

This ship is becoming the official playable Jupiter class (and will be replacing any ships still using the old Jupiter model still in the game).

I like it, especially the new class of hangar pets, the Callisto light escorts. One question remains though. Why would this craft have warp engines if they are supposed to be launched from a carrier? :D

So now the Starship Design Team admits what players have been saying all along - the end result of this 'contest' was basically pre-planned to be the 'new' Jupiter, leaving us to wonder (or in some cases, believe with smug certainty) if, in fact, the voting was always rigged so that 'Omega', the most Jupiter-like of the eight designs, was always going to win.

A good Starship Trait doesn't necessarily make up for that.

Though, as Kazabok asked, I do wonder if we'll see the Callisto (named after the Science Vessel destroyed in "Revelations", I presume) T6 Escort as a playable ship (or even as our first *gasp* T6 equivilent Small Craft). It I like, it reminds me of the 'Federation Scout Ship' Data piloted in "Insurrection".

Happy with the 'escort' pets (more like heavy Peregrines), but the weapons and the pseudo-science layout is underwhelming. I wasn't expecting a science-scimitar, but I didn't expect...this. 57,200 hull on a ship that's more than double the materials of an Odyssey (unless I'm mistaken, and it's mostly empty space) only has 20% more hit points.

Man of Steel, Carrier of Kleenex? (Holy mixed metaphor Batman!)

Even shuttle craft are warp capable! Wouldn't expect a Light Escort to be otherwise, would you?

So...an Intel Carrier that launches a Pilot Escort. Fascinating.

Aside from the fact that it's not a dreadnought or cruiser combination of any type. The same can also be said of the Atrox.

I'm more confused as to why a carrier is placed in the science ship line instead of the cruiser line, but that's the status quo so I'm not surprised. As someone who served on a carrier truth be told, the strength and power of any ship called a carrier is in the wing, not the guns.

Brilliant Sarcasm and complete accuracy aside, I do in fact count the Dyson as a proper science vessel.

I think the Callisto is the tier 6 version of the Peregrine in truth.

But it is good. So we have Drones, Callistos, and Birds of Prey (and Jem'Hadar Attack ships). The frigate pet collection is complete. At least until the Cardassians get a carrier to launch their fighters.

Agreed, especially with the fighters well equipped with torpedoes.
