If you are experiencing any of the DirectX errors mentioned in the previous posts, do the following.

    1) Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/179113

    2) Scroll down to the section on the page that reads "Install DirectX End-User Runtime if your application or game requires an earlier version of DirectX"

    3) Click the link for "DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer"

    4) On the page that opens, follow the installation intructions

This helped a bunch of people in my fleets.

    Good luck!

When you start the game either from ARC or the desktop icon for star trek... The first thing that pops up is the launcher, its the window that shows the patch loading before you hit engage. On this window go to the top and select options from the menu in the upper right and safe mode is a choice in that list.

When you get into the game most problems revolve around using directx 11 in the display settings. If you change this to directx 9 and then restart the game it usually resolves the directx crash issue. This has been going on long before this season's launch for people using higher end AMD cards.

Yes - that should go without hassle. Both Steam and Arc are just 'library platforms' for games - they utilize basically an built-in quickroute to launch the game you want to play and gather them in a neat overview. The launcher itself of the game and the executable should be the same, and the data regarding the characters etc is taken of the servers of Cryptic which doesn't differentiate between origin platforms of the launchers (Arc, Steam, local PC without platform, etc).
Hope this answers your question ;)

If it helps, I found selected "Safe Mode" in the launcher gets me into the game. Then I change my displays settings to DirectX 9 and readjust graphics as needed.

Have you tried launching the GameClient.exe without going into ARC?

Here are links to the posts in the Graphics error section that I used:

You might also want to update your video drivers. I did that out of instinct when this problem came up.

I was using just the launcher mentioned above before season 10 started. That's when I deleted it and reinstalled it threw ARC and deleted ARC and tried again up until season 10 everything worked fine.

Hmph, I'm out of ideas at this moment. I'm willing to guess it's a conflict between the way the game handles DirectX 9 and 11. Could be wrong though.

I have no problem with crashes and stuff, the game plays, it just fails due to tremendous lag.
When patching, the patch goes ridiculously slow, like being on a 56k dialup connection (I actually have a 4 Mbps aDSL).

    This is the patchserver traceroute:

Also, the game (when I manage to get in and play) is unbearable due to lag. Sector space, user interface, and chat works relatively OK (it's laggy, but not problematic). Space battles are impossible, I press a hotkey and the game responds roughly 30-40 secs later. Haven't managed to test ground yet.

and we were all thinking the emergency maintenance today would actually FIX the directx bug , silly us ....:D

mind you ; if this bug leads to me being unable to complete the DR-event ( the Breen map crashes on me, that's the final bit in the entire event !! ) it will probably mean uninstall of STO ,never to look back ( and I've invested quite a lot of cash in this game throughout the years )

Well, still getting the same fatal error message as yesterday so the patch didn't work for some people.

Pretty sad when they release new content and not only is it bugged but people can't even get on to see anything.

Anyway, after I tried the "Safe Mode" option I got back into STO. Give it a shot if you're still having problems because it works. Thanks whoever first mentioned this option.
