Well if you play Skyrim/whatever dozens of times like you've probably done with STO STFs, you'll also be able to expand the playtime of those games ad infinitum.

The same can be said for Tetris. It isn't because there's the obvious lack there of MMO mechanics. With something like Skyrim the distinction isn't as clear (there is a LOT of grinding in that game) but what it basically comes down to is that without a social environment and evolving gear, systems, stats, and content you can't exercise the full potential that having no technical limit on replays provides. Even with Mod support (which is a far cry from content like DR) you're going to run out of things to entertain yourself with in a single player RPG far sooner than with an MMO you get into (especially a F2P one where you're not trying to justify the cost every month.)

The no-cloak treaty went out the door when the Klinks and Feds got fighting again i thought. Anyway, there is too many cloaking or cloak typed races in the delta quadrant not to have it equipped and with the Klink and Rommies together, having the fed ships in the fleet (I am assuming everyone is going together, would just make sense.) sticking out like a sore thumb would be silly.

    Logic aside...

I'm not all opposed to the new look for feds, and the science ship's ability sounds freaking cool and right up my alley. Knowing I'd ante up anyway for MOST of the ships, I went ahead and bought the pack, and I hope that they'll add on a few more like they did with LoR's 124 buck pack, but frankly I'll be honest, the Title "VOYAGER" is what really made me want this.

And it's not like I don't set 150 bucks a aside a month on TRIBBLE in this game so this worked out well.

... Lesse.. something to ***** about..... HEY CRYPTIC GIVE ME THE DAUNTLESS!

    There something.

I hope we can use older skins for ships we have already purchased. I am not to impressed with the new Fed designs. They are ok but seem more like Tron ships than Fed ships. The Romluan and Klingon ships do look nice though.

I hope it will. I'd be a shame and waste if not.
At least Venture ship parts would be nice IMO, since it is a completely new ship design and it would fit perfectly to the Guardian.

I think the no-cloak treaty (Treaty of Algeron) was with the Romulan Star Empire and went out of the window when said Empire stopped existing.
I don't think the treaty was renewed with the two romulan sucessor states (New Romulan Empire and Romulan Republic).

There is no way I am going to spend £119 on ships that look that bad. Never seen such terrible looking ships. (Fed Side)

Not sure if someone brought up this point so i appoligize in advance if i am repeating. Right now a top level ship will cost u around $25 US, with the pack you are getting 8 ships, so do the simple math. If these ships were to cost you $25 each you would be paying $200 just for the ships alone. Not only do you get 8 ships for $125, but you also get boff's, doff's, ship upgade tokens, and Talaxian uniform (although some might not like it). That in my opinion is one hell of a deal. I will definately get this pack, it is well worth every penny.

    Oh bull[redacted].

People all over the world spend more than $125 bucks on frivolous transient TRIBBLE that lasts a lot shorter time frame than the lifetime of an MMO. Like a day golfing, theatre tickets, sporting events, gourmet dinners, chartering a boat, vacation trips, gambling in casinos, etc, etc, etc.

So don't try painting this as an Americans mindset.

I agree... This isn't exclusive to Americans... It's exclusive to Zynga...

Where was DStahl working again, when he left Cryptic back then?
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

The ships look okay but I'm not overly impressed, Im pretty happy with my Tatical Cruiser. I dont see anything here I would be willing to fork over a $124.99 for. Why is this not something that is deeply discounted or free for FTP/subscribers, I mean I hate to bring it up but SWKOR gave away the Stronghold to Subscribers. This seems like alot of money for not much return. Think I will just get a token and upgrade my T-5 ship. Especially after reading that the content will not require a t6 ship or even an upgraded T5. I think you need to rethink here, this is way to much money for essientially a upgrade pack.

I mean I understand your company needs to make money but you make money off of me every month and virtually everytime I play in one form or another. As a subscriber I pay every month and I usually find something cool that I have to have at least a couple times a week.

I am really looking forward to playing Delta Rising and I did love the free give away weekend that just happened. Ever since I joined this game I have thought that the items were way over priced but I still forked over the money because I loved playing the game.

I saw the ships and thought they interest me, but £98 at todays rate, even with the 20% discount made me cringe a lot.

These are virtual items and will be outdated within 6 months, I made a commitment to the game when I paid my life sub but £98 is far too much for some ships. I'd rather see a massive round of bug fixing than this attempt at mugging me. This game is rapidly becoming MechWarrior Online as their packages are ridiculously overpriced too.

Sorry too rich for my blood as the card player said I'm out. :(

Not even tempted to buy the pack. The Federation ships, if you can call them Federation ships, are appalling. They don't even look like Star Trek ships. The only news I want to hear from Delta Rising is that you have fired the Ship Artist and anyone who okayed the design. You lost my $199.99 and much of my interested in Delta Rising, or in my case Delta Failing. :(

I must say that $125 for DLC is such an American mindset. Only we would blow that much money at one time for a game. Sad that in today's economy, we (American's) still have that kind of disposable income.
But off my soapbox... personally I was hoping for, and still am, smaller starter boxes. I just want 1 T6 ship with some goodies. I don't need 8... Last I checked, I could only fly one at a time :)
spoken like someone who's never been anywhere else. perfect world grossed over 500 million bucks last year. most of it came from their asian market games. i guess no one told all those asian gamers they weren't americans and so can't blow money on games.

and what do you mean 'in today's economy?' unemployment is at the lowest its been in nearly a decade and the dow jones industrial has almost doubled in value over the last 6 years. i work in a bank in the loan division and home, business, and personal loans are are close to setting records.

you'll be able to buy the ships individually once the expansion goes live; just like you could with lor, so there's no reason to fret about that either.

it has nothing to do with zynga, either. look at star citizen. the fans kickstarted over 20 million bucks to get the game going. games cost money and people are willing to spend money if they like the product.

No, the new content, when it arrives, will be available for free.

The package is primarily about buying those new Tier 6 ships. But you don't need Tier 6 ships for the new content, and you can upgrade old Tier 5 ships. (The upgrade must be bought from the C-Store, but you can get Zen via the Dilithium Exchange. E.g. you collect and refine a lot of Dilithium by in-game activities) and then exchange it against Zen that someone else bought.) You can also get Tier 6 ships eventually via the C-Store (either buying Zen directly, or exchanging it for Dilithium)

I would definitely recommend not spending any money until you figured out more about how the game currently works. ;)
Take the combination of dil and zen in considering the price. $20 is simply where it starts, and what cryptic will ultimately get for the transaction. Obviously at your end you can work your way down to a price tag of $0 via the dilithium grind but at any point along it you can jump straight to owning that c-store item with a bit of cash proportional to how much gameplay time you still need to spend. In that you can let your own sense of value dictate how much any item should be to you.

I for example spent $10 (plus dil) to get my scimitar because that's what I considered a fair price for that ship. I didn't spend anything (except dil) on my character respec's, extra boff slots, account bank because I saw those as basic services that I shouldn't have to pay real money for. Similarly I only spent $5 to pick up the modules for my fleet sovereign because that's what I thought was reasonable and I spent $0 on the FED DSD pack because I only wanted that out of a sense of novelty.

Basically I never consider how much any item is worth from its base c-store price. That's just how much cryptic is getting through the dil exchange and whatever I decided to chip in (which only sets how much time I need to spend to reach my fair price.)

I look at it this way. Games are my entertainment. I work hard 6 days a week, I make money, and i couldn't get a rats tail about going to watch MLB, NBA, NFL, whatever sport things live. Usually the times I have gone, its about 100 dollars all said and done, and i'm cheap when it comes to buying stuff. You go and see a game once, about 2-3 hours. I spend less on a ship, instead of grinding, and I use it for hours and hours, and if it's really good, hell weeks maybe. I'm not different than the guy buying season passes for his favorite team, I don't look down on him for that, we just have different interests. I understand STO is F2P. I did not play it because it's F2P. I play it because it's fun. I don't mind spending money on it.

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to continue playing the game anyway. Whereas if you want to, say, play Mass Effect without bothering with any of the DLC, it's still going to cost you per game. (I bought them new, so wound up paying circa $40 per - worth it in my opinion, but without any DLC, I'd be looking at a total of about $120 for several days' worth of gameplay - far less than I've gotten out of STO for free.)

I'll be playing Delta Rising for free, too. I don't see why all the whinging. You don't think it's worth $125 US for the ships and whatnot? Don't pay it - I won't. Where's the issue?

The issue is that we want it all for free without having to work for it.

Will this pack be released on STEAM, or am I only able to purchase this pack through STO/ARC?

Based on what they did with the Dragonborn pack over on Neverwinter, yes (and for Zen, too), but Cryptic won't say anything about it at all until the day of release when they suddenly become available. Oh, and the 'sale' will be a lie and all evidence of it being on sale will suddenly vanish (and it'll just cost the same it does now).

Also, for those of you who keep thinking of the 'worth' of the pack, it's all about simple math.

8 ships (4 Fed, 2 KDF, 2 Rom): $25 or $30 each when they show up in the Zen store the day DR goes Live.

    At $25, that's $200. At $30, that's $240.

So do you play all three sides? Then it's totally worth it.

If you don't? Wait for DA to launch.

That said, Cryptic planned this out well. Why? The new T6 ships have a level/rank on them. When maxed out at level 5 (which only T6 ships can do), you unlock a Trait that you can slot into your player which works on all ships you fly.

You get 4 slots. Cryptic is releasing 4 Federation ships (the most popular 'side').

So...if you're a Fed player, to be the 'strongest' you can, you'll want all four ships. So it's worth getting the pack just for that.

not different at all. if people like a game, or its potential, they're willing tp spend money. its all the haters who can't let go that won't accept that. as i said in another thread, my favorite ship is the excelsior. so far i've spent 25 bucks on it to get a fleet version in over 4 years. i'm not complaining if i have to spent 10 more. 35 bucks in 5 years is cheap entertainment.

    It's very different...

Starcitezen is a Kickstarter game, developed by the number 1 all time super space-sim making dude... There wasn't even a true concept when the donations began, and no established background

STO is a existing game made by the #1 superhero MMO creating company... Theres established background and an existing playerbase.

    Entirely different scenarios.

i would say the "value for money" is good but the ship design seems a bit well pants,

The federation ship i dont like i think they could have done a nice tie in with the delta quadrant and used somthing else

now im going to say a ship and get shot down but i think they could have used the design from the dauntless instead of what they have proposed which i will say i dont like.

My main issue is that i have a lot of starships i like using and im sort of set with my rom chars and my fed chars (each are themed) i just dont like the federation starships so if they split it down into smaller packs iwould be intereted in buying bits but not all.

it still comes down to the willingness to spend money on an unknown future to entertain themselves. at least with an existing game you don't need to wait 3 years to see if it was worth your money.

Which was never. The RSE never ceased to exist in STO's timeline.

While that is true, the comparison dosen't apply, as the money spend on starcitezen is more likely to be useable in the long term (since it seems there will be a single-player part from what I can tell) than money spend on STO, that WILL eventually be shut down.
