You know, I'm a really old piece of Targ meat. I remember having bought pc-games for 100-120 units of a currency that doesn't exist anymore, and those were games I still play to this very day. That is around 50 (or 55-60$) worth decades of fun.
Today, companies charge 150 bucks for virtual items in a free to play game. This... wouldn't have been possible "back in the day". Definitely.
I hear ya my old brother. I'm stuck in the 90's myself. If it costs more than $20 my head starts to spin.
as much as I would never purchase such a big ticket item, the fact that the price is the same as LOR leaves me very hopeful about upgrades and t6 ship prices. They might not go for the full $50 for a T6 ship.

Do you always cheer for things that are so horribly wrong?
NOT putting ships in Packs - as the only option - would be horribly wrong.
T5-U ships are fully capable of competing with T6 ships according to Cryptic, so they have a TON of ships that are already offered on a account wide basis, so the logical next step is to make this a pack thing.
There is absolutely no reason to not limit them to packs... It gets people shinies, and Cryptic money... It's good for everyone.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Well, I see that many people disagree with Cryptic decision to give feds intelligence vessels or don't like pseudo stealth fighter look of new ships, I agree that they no longer folow smooth lines of orginal fed ships, but i think that devs could at least give option to change some of this glowing lines to window rows. On part of intelligence specialization not being on par with starfleet image can you give any alternatives that will no overbalance KDF or Romulans???
I figured a lifetime membership would carry me through this game. Guess not.
Why do you think it doesn't?
You get your Zen stipend, you may need to wait however many years, but the stuff in the package will eventually be available for Zen, except a few exclusive titles (unless the package itself also becomes avaialble for Zen, in which case yo ucan get even that).
And you can still play all the missions.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
So, each of the new federation ships has a cloak? It makes it seem like the federation is entering the Delta Quadrant not as explorers, but as invaders.
I was under the impression that DR is going to be a staggered release throughout the rest of the year...
125$ for your 'Magic Starter Pack', while several things will be changed, guaranteed, after you've bought them. Other things you will want are not yet released or retroactively included, so you still have to piece those out.
Everything about this expansion seems to be paywalled. Not being able to acquire the pack with Zen is the gleaming example. Why? Because you can grind out zen for free. They don't want your freebie zen.
Why else? Zen sales, and Zen bonus. 125$ worth of zen gets you more than 12500 zen, every time. That's good for zen buyers, not so good for selling 'Intro Packs' at manufactured retail prices.
Also I read somewhere in all this about 8 ship traits...where are you getting 8 traits? I was under the impression ship traits were based upon class and that only T6 ships get the level 5 traits. Since there are only 3 ship classes, 4 if they introduce something new, that's still less than 8. Where was it mentioned that all the traits for all the possible ships would be different?
Are you forking out cash money without even knowing what's in the bag?
I must say that $125 for DLC is such an American mindset. Only we would blow that much money at one time for a game. Sad that in today's economy, we (American's) still have that kind of disposable income.
But off my soapbox... personally I was hoping for, and still am, smaller starter boxes. I just want 1 T6 ship with some goodies. I don't need 8... Last I checked, I could only fly one at a time
It isn't the "American Way". it's the Free-To-Play way. The games have a lot of players that don't need to pay anything. They may still do, but everything can be gotten in game, even if requires a lot of grinding to get there.
The idea is that some people still pay, and somepay a lot, where others do not.
The alternative is to have a fixed cost for everyone. A monthly subsription. But that means there are people that will not even bother starting to play the game, because they don't want to pay a subscription (even if they, if they had gotten the game for free, would have actually eventually paid for some of the stuff you can buy for it). And thus, the game would have a smaller player base.
With subscription based games, everyone paid the same price. That meant for anyone that the price was too high, he wouldn't play. And anyone that would have been willing to pay more didn't, because he could not.
F2P grants a fluidity in pricing that is otherwise not possible. (And is not so easily transferable to every kind of product. For example, you couldn't sell cars for free and give away "Premium" features for money, because just producing the car itself is very costly. But a free account with free gear doesn't really amount too much cost. The creation of the whole game and its assets does, but the reproduction of an asset is cheap.)
It means some of us pay more than we may want, but we don't need to worry so easily that our favorite game dies because there aren't enough wiling to pay for a subscription, instead we get a lot of other players, and in MMOs, players are content. Even if you don't d fleet or group stuff - if you just use the exchange (Dilithium or Energy Credit), you benefit from the existence of other players.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
If I remember right the LoR pack had the same exact introductory price. We won't know what the regular price will be until after they raise it. But going by the LoR pack, it's probably gonna go up to $160, or the equivalent 16,000 zen in the c-store if they add it there later like the LoR pack.
I bought star trek online when it first came out the digital deluxe edition.. I just came back to game yesterday.. can anyone tell me the difference in paying and not paying? and do you have to buy the new expacs to enjoy the game or is this really free to play.. sorry the forum will not let me make a new thread cause it says im new even though I got the game when it first came out..
Hell I'm going to simply use my Constellation class, no upgrades or any thing, think I'll RP some....make up my own story in my head.... lol. Its just too expensive for what they are offering. My personal opinion, unique to me and by no means true, is that the new ships look nothing like anything from Star Trek. Might be nice to toss in some ships from the actual universe too, or ones that follow the basic designs laid out. And who the hell wants to dress like Neelix????? lol (last part is in jest, I know some folks cant wait.....maybe Iron Chef Delta Quandrant mission is needed?)
So, each of the new federation ships has a cloak? It makes it seem like the federation is entering the Delta Quadrant not as explorers, but as invaders.
yep, sneaking in like tal shiar scum
cryptic is pretty much killing the idea that the federation is a group of peaceful explorers
the federatoin meanwhile looks more like the terran empire
In looking at the FED Class of Intel Starships. You think it seem to resemble possibly some Reman, Tholian, Dyson, maybe some Voth, and definately another type of technology yet to be revealed in the engineering for the FED Intel Ships. But cloak, phaser lance and so forth even on this Phantom Escort? Holy Defiants Batman! Talk about Tactical Escort gone total makeover.

No, the new content, when it arrives, will be available for free.
The package is primarily about buying those new Tier 6 ships. But you don't need Tier 6 ships for the new content, and you can upgrade old Tier 5 ships. (The upgrade must be bought from the C-Store, but you can get Zen via the Dilithium Exchange. E.g. you collect and refine a lot of Dilithium by in-game activities) and then exchange it against Zen that someone else bought.) You can also get Tier 6 ships eventually via the C-Store (either buying Zen directly, or exchanging it for Dilithium)
I would definitely recommend not spending any money until you figured out more about how the game currently works.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
The only ship I am interested in is : Faeht Intel Warbird On Fed side, I will stick with my existing Starfleet ships, aka. Nebula and all.
Faeht is a major cosmetic upgrade vs. T'Varo but both have EBC. It remains to be seen what kind of stats this ship will have however, I plan to convert enough dil to zen just to buy this ship and nothing else.
You know Fed cruiser looks more like something from ME or Halo Franchise than federation starship.
F22 + Constellation = FED Intelligence cruiser.
Particularly consideration what it does I think it looks A. fantastic (with the shorter saucer) and B. appropriate for DR. It's very different from what we've seen before, but it is a plausible evolution of design.
Bipedal mammal and senior Foundry author.
Notable missions: Apex [AEI], Gemini [SSF], Trident [AEI], Evolution's Smile [SSF], Transcendence
Looking for something new to play? I've started building Foundry missions again in visual novel form!
You know the worst part for Romulans and KDF. The Fed get to unlock 4 ship traits, and the Romulans and KDF 2 each.
Where did they say that every single seperate t6 ship get a unique trait, i missed that?
New home of the Romulan Republic.
I have an idea for what Season 11 should be; Season 11: The Big Bug Fix.
I have not been able to read my bug tickets in over a year, not even the tickets about not being able to see my tickets.
I find the drama of your signature proof of your immaturity, this means you, DR whiners.
To all the people that keep saying it's a good deal when they do the math $20/ship x8 = $160. Don't you all think $20 for a ship is already too high?
Do any of you remember the "original" F2P model and MICRO-TRANSACTIONS? Microtransactions were supposed to be very small and but have huge volume. That was the original model for the first free to play games. We never saw it. We instead moved directly to MACRO-TRANSACTIONS and all the must-have-it-now-or-ima-gonna-die folks have been feeding this practice.
I can tell you one thing for sure, if the cost of items in game were cheaper, I would buy a whole lot more of them because it feels like a value but $20 for a single ship does not. Outside of my original Lifetime membership, I have not spent a single dollar on this game because none of the Zen store items feels like a good deal to me. It's not that I don't have the money, It's more about the principle. Don't get me wrong, I have a ton of Zen store items that I bought through zen/dilly trading but if they were actually a good deal, I would have spent actual money. But if think spending $20 for a single ship is a good deal then this pack may feel like a bargain to you.
Get rid of the fluff; titles, costumes and give us what we all want and change a normal DLC price which should be no more than $49-59 USD. Maybe give me a "collector's" DLC for $69-79. Do that and I would buy because that seems about right. They may make less per transaction but I bet there would be a whole lot more transactions.
The Chinese are laughing themselves all the way to the bank by how many Americans will pay top dollar for this stuff.

As of right now, it just shows $124.99 without any comment of regular vs. sale price:

I am getting a "404 - Not Found" from that URL.
Don't tell me it's region restricted!
EDIT: it doesn't work even after logging in. But guess what? Using a US VPN shows me the page.
It is region restricted.

Will these all be things we can buy in pieces separately in the future?
Will the pack be available with Zen?
Been here since closed beta. Spent far too much and have been burned far too often by Cryptic to know how they play the game.
Besides, I play the game and earn Dilithium just like anyone else can. I save mine up for ships etc.
So why would I set fire to near £100, when I have over twice that sitting on my account ready and waiting?
