These are not the only ships, nor are they the start of a new "trend"
Similar to how the Dyson ships are not part of a new "trend"
Similar to how the Avenger was not part of a new "trend"
We will create a variety of ships, for a variety of tastes. It is absolutely not possible to appease everyone, unless we release quite a large range of ships -- which is what we're going to do!
Generally, that range of ships includes:
Canon - something seen on the TV series or movies.
Refit/Update - Inspired by a canon ship, usually parts are swappable with inspiration, but not always.
New - Identifiable as a faction's ship, but with a strong flavor twist.
Evolution - Inspired by canon ships, but usually a new class of ship.
Sometimes these blend together, sometimes they don't.
Regardless, we have, and will continue to cover those bases to appease the largest number of people.
To put the ships you have seen into perspective, let me categorize the ships we've seen
In other words, hold your horses, you haven't seen everything yet!
Taking this with a grain of salt, considering that it might be a year, or even two till enough of these canon / refit ships hit the market.
And even then, the one ship in the game which I could see myself taking into the Delta Quadrant (Excalibur, built in 2409) likely isn't part of this equation anyways.
When that snafu gets fixed, then maybe I'll reconsider. But until then, along with many others, I'll stick with what I have, because the new stuff just doesn't fit Starfleet's design aesthetic.

When we level and hit a new tier rank, we always got a free ship to go along with it. So now with fleet admiral rank will we get a free T6 ship? Or will they all be c-store only and we won't even get a basic T6 ship?

...talking to players is like being a mall Santa. Everyone immediately wants to tell you all of the things they want, and you are absolutely powerless to deliver 99% of them.
Lockbox ships are the most expensive and hard ships to get in the game. Cryptic always branded this ships as end game ships, and now they will be only upgradeable to T5-U, so t6 ships will have "more" than a lockbox ship
Lockbox ships should be at least have the same things that a t6 ship.
The thought crossed our minds. However, we'd like to keep Fleet Modules specific to purchasing fleet ships and whatever we do for T5-Us to be entirely seperate.
Upgraded Lockbox ships aren't inferior to T6s ships. Existing lockbox ships lack the 13th bridge officer power once they're upgraded and they don't have a Starship Trait, but they generally have superior hull and shield mods. Additionally a T5-U upgraded lockbox/lobi ship will have 11 console slots vs. a standard T6 ship's 10 console slots.
Good question. Here's the breakdown on Fleet ships. Right now, Fleet Ships offer +1 console slot, +10% Hull HP and +10% Shield HP over a standard T5 ship. If you were to upgrade a Fleet Ship to T5-U, it would gain all the benefits mentioned:
-Bonus scaling HP
-Starship Mastery passive abilities
-+1 Console Slot
The short answer to your question is no. They will have 10% better shield and hull than the non-fleet T5-U variant and have +1 console slot.
I think you'll find this statement to not be true once Delta Rising goes live. A T5-U Lockbox/Lobi ships is still an incredibly powerful ship even compared to a T6 ship. Also, your first two points are the same thing. The 5th Starship Mastery level is just unlocking the starship trait.
I hope to be able to answer more questions later today.

my point is still valid, a lockbox ships cost 10 times more and they wont have the Starship Trait, 13th BO ability and the Specialized BO seats. Now they will launch t6 in lockbxoes making all the others obsolete, this is a scam....

The starship trait ANY ship can use, it just takes a T6 ship to unlock it in the first place.
The 13 BOFF ability/specialized BOFF seating aren't a T6 feature, as it will not be on every tier 6 ship after X2's launch. It's more of a gimmick than anything.

Fine, it's not a T6 vs T5U thingy.
It's a "additional Boff ability" vs "NO additional Boff" ability thing.
Every ship without this additional ability will not be able to keep up, no matter the label.
Upgrading a Tier 5 ship is easy.
First, you must be level 50 and at a starship selector NPC on a ground map.
When browsing your starships youll notice that qualifying Tier 5 ships will now have an upgrade button on the starships inventory screen.
Pressing this button will prompt you to pay a Zen cost (or possibly require an item with a Zen cost).
This cost will be significantly lower than if you were to purchase a Tier 6 ship from the Zen Store.
Completing this purchase will then immediately upgrade your ship and transfer any items on the T5 ship to the new upgraded ship.
It should be noted that some ships will be free to upgrade.
This includes things like many event reputation ships (like the Breen and Risian ships), all lockbox ships, all lobi store ships, and duty officer promotion ships like the JemHadar Attack Ship and Voth Bulwark Dreadnought Cruiser.
And there, ladies and gents, is our answer at last!
Looks like me and my Wells are gonna be doing the Timey-Wimey for for a lonnnnng time!
I still think the Jem hadar dread and the Tholian orb weaver and Recluse are the pinnacle of lockbox ships.
The first one is a brutal beatstick that can launch waves of elite scorps or if you have spend the money - jem hadar attack ships. Bo3 from 4 pet ships? That does Hurt.
The Orbweaver is a neat little ship for the intrepid captain who likes to tinker.
The Recluse is probably the best non KDF pure carrier. The mesh weavers are awesome mass debuffer and the boff layout on this ship allows it some flexibility. + kickass bridge.
The starship trait ANY ship can use, it just takes a T6 ship to unlock it in the first place.
Out of all the claims, that one is driving me the most crazy. Where does it specify that a T6 Delta is REQUIRED to be used to grind out a Starship Trait? By the way it looks to me, ANY upgraded ship (be it a T6 or T5U) will obtain this Trait at the appropriate Captain level.
WHY aren't the Mirror ships getting the upgrade option?
They cost the same as the 'Hero" Lockbox ships, except they are the "consolation prize" So again, WHY?
You can't say it's because they are T4 ships and not T5, because the Risian Ships are getting the option and they are also T4 ... SO again WHY?
It's ludicrous! Is it because you feel you haven't made as much money from players, because they bought the ship for only 100K EC on the Exchange? And therefore don't "deserve" the upgrade? Fine, the have a "Special Mirror Pack" that will bring the cost up to the equivalent cost of the main universe variant.
Just don't make it so we have to throw those Mirror Ships in the trash!

Sorry, but they were pretty clear.
Only T6 ships have the fifth level of ship mastery that confers this trait.
That said, we've been assured there will be non-ship routes to these traits and they'll be applied to the captain rather than the ship.
People can say what they want about "paranoia" and the like. But the fact remains, without a tier 6 ship you're not going to be able to take advantage of some of the fun new mechanics that are being added to the game in Delta Rising.
The tier 5-U offering is basically the F2P option for people who spent a fortune on master keys and will feel mugged off by the addition of tier 6. I doubt many people will pay Zen to upgrade any ship that isn't Lobi or LockBox aquired when they can spend a bit more Zen for a tier 6 instead.
What saddens me is that for anyone who wants to min/max their stats and take advantage of the new Specialist bridge officer ability pool, they're going to now have limited ship options. Are cryptic going to revisit each of the tier 5 lockbox species ships and add a tier 6 ship? No, they're not, let's face it. So we're going to see hordes of the same 10 fed/rom/kdf only ships again, just like when the game launched.
I wouldn't mind if I had to upgrade my Lobi/Lockbox ships to tier 6 for the same price as purchasing a new tier 6 outright. But 5-U is BS in my opinion and just isn't a valid option for anyone who wants to experience all STO has to offer, while at the same time maximizing their character's stats.
Disappointing move Cryptic. Give all ships a paid tier 6 upgrade ffs.
And, upon checking the list, I see that NONE of the ships I own can be upgraded for free, not even the ones I ALREADY PAID FOR (such as my Excelsior, Galaxy X, Intrepid retrofit, etc.).
I simply don't have words.
really you don't even have summer/winter ships?
if I stop posting it doesn't make you right it. just means I don't have enough rum to continue interacting with you.
I would pay extortionate amounts to upgrade my Sao Paolo to T6, but that is the only one. If it's only T5 -> T6 I'll just be deleting a whole lot of ships and hoping a free ship in the 50-60 content rewards fits my playstyle.
I already paid for my Armitage and I'm not even remotely interested in doing it again.

"The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it."
Ultimately, out of respect for the existing playerbase that has supported them in the first place, they should give us all a free upgrades for out existing stock of ships.
Its the fair thing to do and sets a proper precedent for future new releases like this.

so does this mean T6 ships are all C-store ships? nothing included as part of the expansion? or just "most" of them.
Ill say this right now, ive been playing since Beta and if T6 ships all require me to spend real money to get them, im done. I spent money on a very select few ships but for the most part my captains are all flying stock t5 ships because I should not have to purchase the top tier gear with real cash.
Actually the fair thing to do would be to tell all the whiners to get bent. If you want T6 level ships, buy a T6 ship. No other level of ship can be upgraded,... due to the fact that people are getting the opportunity to upgrade at all, they should show a little appreciation.
Personally, the same should apply to gear. You can't upgrade a Mk XI to a Mk XII outside of a very few special and rep sets,... so we shouldn't be able to upgrade Mk XII to MK XIV or whatever either,...
I am absolutely positive, that my opinion will be met with much hostility and ridicule. I take solace in the fact that I really and truly don't give a ****. None of the new announcements or PvP'er rage will affect my game play whatsoever,...

Add a fleet module to that base T6 and you get the extra 10% and console. Or open a T6 lockbox.
All T5 lockbox ships will be inferior from that moment on.
