i guess it all depends on what exactly they mean by a T6 ship, they have already
stated in the blog that not all T6 ships will have the new fancyboff seating, i'd
question why they'd create a new T6 ship that doesnt have that? they
specifically mention T5 for comparison in the QA but no mention of Fleet or Lobi.
i know cryptic can sometimes cut off our nose to spite thier face, but i really cant
see them killing off lobi ship sales, that is a massive income for them. so upgrading
the lobi store ships would almost seem to be a given, and if that is the case, i cant
see them leaving current lobi ship owners high and dry.

For me, it depends how customisable they are.

I like that the Fed cruiser looks kind of like a Heavy Cruiser. I don't like all the angles and sharp edges. I also don't like the hull material.

    So, my simple answer: maybe.

I'm definitely interested in all the playable Tier 6 ships. I don't subscribe to the "All Starfleet starships must have the same designs as previous ships have used" idea. I'm all for the designers of the ships to be using experimental ship designs.

    Amen to that.

I will never leave my Wells even if it can't be upgraded for some reason, after all you can still complete Elite STFs in a Tier 4 ship.
I don't think Cryptic would shoot themselves in the foot by rendering Lock Box and Lobi ships obsolete considering how much income it provides them. I'm quite sure they will provide some kind of upgrade to Lock Box ships at least

As I mentioned in another thread I think that the artists are getting burned out trying to come up with federation looking designs after all there is only so many ways that you can get the "pizza cutter" look. Besides the Enterprise-J is how many centuries ahead of STO?

Yeah, things will be 1000 times easier if they will listen to the players. That way, they will release all the time designs that will fill the expectations of almost everybody. But you know, this is just a dream.. :P

I think, out of the CBS rights, there are no more options the designers can take. At leat, they are very very limited right now.

I'm not sure what the hate is all about it just looks like a modernized Prometheus escort and that means a canon ship design

    Prometheus TV screen shot...
    http://screenshots.filesnetwork.com/8/files2/118560_4.jpg

The new T6 fed ship just looks like it but more streamed line... more advanced..

is the complaining just do to the fact they showed the Escort 1st.. would you people be still complaining if the T6 cruiser had more traditional designs...

I mean after all most Fed escorts didn't follow the normal saucer design any how.

Speaking personally, its not the saucer.

    It's those nacelles.

    Ugh.

The complaining is , because it is an ugly ship, doesnt matter if it is a canon design or not, or if it is closer to the prometheus, period. The prometheus is far better looking ship.

Another pretty hideous-looking Federation ship, no surprises there.

The Romulan ship looks the best, but Cryptic still can't seem to grasp the concept of smooth lines or non-massive warp nacelles on Romulan ships. I'll probably keep using my D'Deridex.

It's not the saucer, or even the shape of the nacelles or number for me. It's the complete lack of an engineering hull that throws off the proportion of the vessel. It looks like they have tried to completely integrate the secondary hull into the saucer aka akira or perhaps stargazer style and it just looks WRONG. Stretch out the "body" behind the deflector in a more prometheus way and it would aesthetically look much much better.

Combined hulls like that aren't cruisers, they are escorts. The best looking ships have a 2 to 3 rough ratio of width to length on the body, with the newer styles (intrepid, dauntless, aventine) having a more 1.5 to 3 indicating speed.

It's way way too squat for a cruiser. Lengthen the hull and it would look a lot more trek like.

    Who said it's a cruiser?
You're right. The work here is very important.

I think its looks fine.. just the screen shot is low rez and at a bad angle.

    http://www.unimatrix-sto.net/USERIMAGES/fedtier6ships.png

if you look at the side angle on

    http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/7001833-tier-6-ships

I think it looks pretty nice... Most ships have more then one style of nacelles and saucers.

Also the screen shot is using vet hull so it has the tron like blues..would have a totally different feel with a different hull color.

personal I like the fed ships lines.. it looks sleek and aggressive....

The KDF though.. is so.. well.. been there done that look.

My Feddie's keeping his Fleet Gal-X, all decked out in the Fluidic gear, the Sci Gorn's keeping his Vo'Quv and the Risian cruiser, but I need something special for my Alien KDF-Rom.

I might just finally bite the bullet and get the Adapted Battlecruiser and Borg it out even more.

    OP
I think they are trying get away from the original designs and styles of Trek that the old people cling to so tightly. They look like they wish to redesign the the look and feel of Star Trek to be more fast paced and filled with action and lot's of fighting. The ship designs look like they wish to emulate styles that are popular around the sci fi genre. The new Federation ship reminds me of the submarine from Star Wars Episode one, lolz.

But as for the ship designs I love, you can't top my D'kora, it's the best ship in the game, it's even crescent shaped! It was totally made for ME!

Yeah, I'm interested what they are about. I'm just not keen on the Federation Battlestar and the Klingon junkheap (seriously, why can't Klingon ships look Klingon?)

Yeah, TRIBBLE the iconography of a 50 year old franchise in a game about said franchise. Hooray for new snazzy designs which are commonly shared through basically EVERY OTHER franchise in existence

Developing something and just abandoning it are two entirely different things. There are a myriad of nice developments of Star Trek ships that still keep their iconic looks intact. Cryptic's designs, however, simply shout "this game here had a bit of success. We need this, and that and this here to get people aboard that never knew Star Trek, but might recognize this from XY".

    Hoohah! Bingo!
    ashkrik23 wrote: »
If they were abandoning it, we would have Star Wars style ships.

Um, we have X-Wing BoPs, the Deferi ships look like the Carrack-class cruisers, and the new alien ships in the trailer looks like the Republic Cruiser from the start of Episode 1. Need I say more?
Yeah I can see what you're talking about. The new ship kinda gives me the impression of a "future" version of the heavy cruiser line.

Far future perhaps, but it's more futuristic than the Enterprise-J and the Relativity Timeship of the 29th Century.

Instead, they made a Federation version of the new Galactica.

And the Klingon T6 ship........looks like junk heaps slapped together, than the elegant craft they once were. Now they are more like Firefly ships.

I ask this question and I am asking in all seriousness...

why do people continue to play if they feel this game is only Star Trek in name only?

    Variety is the key here.

These are not the only ships, nor are they the start of a new "trend"
Similar to how the Dyson ships are not part of a new "trend"
Similar to how the Avenger was not part of a new "trend"

We will create a variety of ships, for a variety of tastes. It is absolutely not possible to appease everyone, unless we release quite a large range of ships -- which is what we're going to do!

Generally, that range of ships includes:

Canon - something seen on the TV series or movies.
Refit/Update - Inspired by a canon ship, usually parts are swappable with inspiration, but not always.
New - Identifiable as a faction's ship, but with a strong flavor twist.
Evolution - Inspired by canon ships, but usually a new class of ship.

Sometimes these blend together, sometimes they don't.

Regardless, we have, and will continue to cover those bases to appease the largest number of people.

To put the ships you have seen into perspective, let me categorize the ships we've seen

    Fed cruiser: New/Evolution
    Fed small ship: New/Evolution
    Romulan ship: New/Evolution
    Klingon ship: New/Update
    Intrepid: Canon

In other words, hold your horses, you haven't seen everything yet! :D
