#2 - It is not spyware that's been proven by multiple people in this thread
#3 - ARC constantly communicates with PWE servers not PWI just like any mmo game. It doesn't congest your network as it barely sends any data.
It doesn't track your web session, your system information is basically like any mmo in existance and while PWI is a chinese company PWE is not and there are limitations to what htey can and cannot collect.
But ya know hey that's just my extreme knowledge and reading of details from a lot of people in this thread.
Just run a sniffer and network monitor m8. Don't trust anything you read until you check it out by yourself. Google the subject. People who post on this forum is either pro or con. The sample size is too small. As for steam, it basically do the same thing as ARC. I couldnt say if it would crash the other running apps or comp since I only played FPS and quit after playing. As for network bandwidth, it's all depend on each person internet connection. I did say MAY congest not congest. If a person internet connection had a limit bandwidth, there would be lag when playing. That's certain. Players from US/EU may not suffer but certainly if they're from country where internet connection is bad.
Correction to my previous post: PWI is a game. PWE is the company, Not sure where you get your info from, but everyone know that PWE is a Chinese based company. Not saying that it's bad. Just saying that China doesn't have the same privacy law as the USA or EU. As I posted, if you don't care about ARC collecting your data, then it's fine. ARC is advertising as a game launcher which by definition to launch game. Shouldn't it quit/terminate when no game is played?
It's a weird concept creating a mmo manager. People normally only play one maybe two mmos at a time. No one has time to play multiple mmos. I understand Steam since 99% of its games are arcade/FPS, so the need for one launcher is necessary. Otherwise, there are too many launchers.
How many PWE mmos are you actually playing? I played PWI and Forsaken world but never both at the same time. The mmos I'm playing atm are gw2 and STO. GW2 isn't really an mmo imo. It's more like killing fest for me

Might wanna look at my title again before asking where I get my information from I'm aware of the fact Perfect World is the arm in china, however PWE is a subsidiary of sorts of them but they are also doing their own thing (which apparently includes looking for development type companies to work with their ARC system). And I have run sniffer and network monitors when running ARC and steam. I know what's sent what isn't, and I've also read every last rant, rave, complaint, compliment post to date around here and other places. The connection that ARC uses is so low (probably lower than even reading a line of a text file on a website) that I wouldn't even concern myself with it. Some might, if they're REALLY that hard pressed for bandwidth limitations, but for the majority of the world it won't make that big of a difference.
Ultimately NO DATA goes to China it all goes to PWE's offices located here in California and as such they have to abide by US law. Unless the EU arc client is different and it goes to Amsterdam's offices that I'm not sure of.
ARC, like steam, has an overlay that runs as well once the game is started. It's also used to monitor for hacking/exploiting programs which at that point it for sure has to keep going even after launch, and even allows you (or will I should say) the ability to chat with friends when in game etc.
As for what PWE mmo's do I actually play? Consistently NW, STO, Swordsman, and Champs (though it's been awhile). Have played? All of them :P
Anyone can take my word or anyone's word for a grain of salt. No one that's convinced this program has spyware and backdoors will ever be happy.

What can I say here. I use it, because I also play Neverwinter Online. I don't see much performance issues. I have two things.
When I start Arc it ask permission to make changes to my computer, well the software, I suppose, my screen, keyboard always stay the same, but when I want to find out what exactly is changed, well, I stiil have to find out. Do tell us here, or give a link to some information that can be understand by a non-computer pro.
Quitting Arc is another thing. I have to rght-click the icon in the taskbar. Nothing wrong with right-clicking, but as an Apple user, I want to left click, esspecially common commands as quitting. Left clicking the cross-button in the upper right corner, leaves the program 'actif'on the taskbar.
It doesn't track your web session, your system information is basically like any mmo in existance and while PWI is a chinese company PWE is not and there are limitations to what htey can and cannot collect.
But ya know hey that's just my extreme knowledge and reading of details from a lot of people in this thread.
The point is that many people simply don't trust PWE/Cryptic (anymore).
There where too many things gone wrong and too many misinformation in the past.
You and and other ARC pros can praise ARC the as long as you want, it won't change anything. Even if it's not "spyware" in most ppl sense, simply collecting data even if it's some insignificant trash is too much IMO. I don't want any data being collected, no matter who it does or for what reason.
I just can't understand the urge to spy normal people nowadays. Whats going on with those people doing that? Don't they have anything better to do? lol.
STO runs well without it, i see just no reason to install ARC.
Is very simple, just keep everything as it is.

only two bits of feedback about Arc games (spacifically the client)
#1 when it works it works, when it doensent it reminds me of steams client 8 years ago)
#2 it conflicts with Adobe flash player and crashes it alot when you click on a link via the client that requires flash based content (has been doing this since adobe release version 12)
other than those two points nothing more to really say
Usually it is various links I have bookmarked, such as the tribble server character copy tool, and the officially released Odyssey uniform color guide.
Character copy tool http://www.arcgames.com/en/my/character/copy/sto is giving me an error right now so I can't copy a character over to the test server. (Edit: After posting this I tried again and it seems to be working for now. But the point still stands that there are far too many Error 502's on the Arc website.)
There are also times the Arcgames homepage won't load and gives the error. It seems to happen rather often.
Edit: I'm using the latest version of the Firefox web browser, but have been getting the error on that site since it existed.
Arc client patch notes: do they exist? Yes and no.
Another thing that gets on my friggen nerves: http://www.arcgames.com/en/arc-news/tag/arc-patch-notesNO RESULTS FOUND Go to Arcgames.com and click on "Arc News" at the top. On the right side of the page you see "Channels - Patch notes, Development blog, Upcoming, Press releases" Clicking on patch notes you get a message saying "No results found".
However, on the Arc News page if you scroll down you can see some patch notes listed with the latest patch notes being April 11, 2014 at the very bottom of the page right above the page numbers. There have been many updates to the Arc client since that date but no patch notes released since then.
So why have there been no patch notes lately for what is being changed in the Arc client? All we get is a dev blog once in a while about features and **** which has too much TRIBBLE to read. We need patch notes that gives a list of what was changed, not some TRIBBLE that has a screenshot advertisement for some new game called 'Swordsman' at the very top of the dev blog. Case in point, latest Arc news: http://www.arcgames.com/en/arc-news/detail/6003633-arc%2C-the-system-tray%2C-and-you!
Overall I don't mind the Arc client but they need to really get their **** together if they want to eventually force this down our throats.

lol, I actually forgot that I had ARC installed, been using the .exe for months. I might go and log in later just to see how much "development" has taken place.

I do not want anything to do with ARC. It introduces another level of complexity and possible problems. It consumes system resources, but does not offer any benefits which interest me.
It is a bad idea, please drop it.
And, by the way, it shares an acronym with the Association of TRIBBLE Citizens, (yes, I'm serious)

...
May i ask why?
Are ppl nowadays considered too stupid to start a game by themselves on their desktop?
To be honest i never got the point of steam or similar platforms.
If i want to play a game i simply start it on my own. Why add another source of errors in the first place?
For example i love playing the Elder Scrolls series, because of it's freedom and modability.
(why did they made to make a MMO of it?)
The latest singleplayer game, Skyrim needs Steam to launch. This is simply annoying. If i wanted to "share" my accomplishments to other ppl i would publicise it on Facebook or twitter ON MY OWN.
The most annoying thing about it is that, although it is a singleplayer game, Steam needs to be online from time to time. No matter if you activate "offline mode" or not. Steam obviously seems to have some weird timer implemented which forces the user to go online from time to time or you can't play the SINGLEPLAYER game. From this it follows that sometimes if you don't have a internet connection you basicly can't use any Steam games at all.
I abysmally hate that.
I avoid buying any Steam bound or similar like game, whenever possible.
I can understand that Steam of ARC may have some advantages, like easier buying games or having only one single account for several games. But none of this interests me at all. I simply want to play a game from time to time, without getting spyied at or having to expose my vita. (slightly overexaggerated). As i said if the internet connection fails, there no game availlable. Additionally, in a singleplayer game i simply want to be left alone. I have absolutely NO desire to have other ppl. watching me playing a game, or my activities being recorded.
To be honest, i simply can't understand most ppls attitude towards game platforms, the drawbacks are WAY to big in my opinion.
ARC is even worse. It features absolutely no benefit at all IMO. It's just another chance to get spyied on, or being monitored. (Especially since laws in other countries can differ greatly from another. Especially when it comes to privacy => fine-print)
I can only tell that i am not.in.the.least interested in getting involved into other PWE games or having my personaly information getting "shared" or whatever you call that nowadays.
I like to have things seperated. Not networked. It is not of anyones business what i do elsewhere in the internet or in a game. Don't you know the creepy feelig of being watched?
I just don't want that and i am sure others think like this too.
I hope i made my point clear.
...
(sorry for sounding a bit harsh, but that's how i feel about this matter )

why do think this is easier? the " old " way the charge would show up right away,,its been 20 minutes now & no zen in my account!!!!
why do you gotta make it harder ?? every change you make just screws up what used to work fine!@!!!!
instead of removing your auto cultivation system which makes it impossible to complete quests,, like the title quests,," anti romantic & the bravo" much less any divines that the BOTS set up.. you do things like TRIBBLE up the public quests.. and the bounty hunter quests!!!
REMOVE the AUTO CULTIVATION system!!!!! remove the pop up to buy a charm when youre about to die!!!! how distacting & it gets in the way of the inventory bag & which results in death> stop paying ppl to TRIBBLE up the game as per BBB investigation!!!!

Bounty Hunter quests? Since when were there bounty hunting quests in Star Trek Online? And what are "Divines?"
Please take a look and let us know what you think. You can post feedback here in this thread, or follow the feedback instructions listed in the blog.

Okay here is my feedback.
Arc was not asked for, not desired and basically a waste of time on both ends. It is an annoyance that yes maybe a few people use but most that have downloaded immediately delete it afterwards.
It is clunky and slow plus the new arc homepage is horrible to look at and use.
We did not ask for this. We did not want this. Progress is fine but that usually means improvement not....whatever you call Arc.
How many hundreds of pages do you guys need to get the message? 300? 800? 2000?
By enlarge the community has spoken. We do not want Arc.
Please address our concerns and assure us that Arc will not be a further infection of the video game we know as Star Trek Online.
Could not have said it better myself, its very clear the a large majority of players do not want Arc.
Maybe even some people don't mind Arc, but nobody wants it. The fact that Arc even exist let alone is becoming mandatory clearly shows in my opinion that the people at PWE don't give a frak about what players think or how they react to new content in games. And that, makes me angry.
If they really do care even slightly about players feedback then after reading even a small section of the thread then they would decide not to go through with Arc.
Me personally, im sticking with Steam, at least until STO gets its act together.
so, i just jumped in and went right to the last page. hundreds of replies i have not read. i know, bad forum decorum (ha), but that's what i did.
anyhow, on topic.
I don't understand the hate for arc. it shows your library of PW games, shows news, links to the forums, connects to the launchers....
it may very well be that arc is unneeded. you can alt-tab to your browser for forums, and games already had launchers.
that said, i have had no experience with it that is negative.
how is launching STO from steam different that from arc, for example?
i just don't get the hate.

Its not so much that players don't like Arc its more that they don't want it to be forced onto them rather than an alternative way of starting STO wich is better than Arc.
If they PWE wasn't going to make it mandatory than most people probably wouldn't care.

You do realize that a lot of these posts are the same people debating, discussing etc over and over again right?
Forums are never the majority of players

Then PWE should send out an email to all players asking if they want Arc, just to get a sense of the feelings of non-forum users about it. They may be surprised by the response, or forum users might be.
However is it possible, no matter how remote the possibility, that your nose became stuck in your exit hole while you were smelling your roses?
This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.
Since I am back from not playin for awhile I noticed having to log into this ARC website to get STO-Forum information - I lost my forum account character rank since it was a member since 2007 now it says I just joined. I attempted to take this up with the illustrious forum moderator who decided it was in good taste to badger me whilst closing the archived thread when it was my thread to begin with - even thos it said archived it was a beginning duscussion on the Foundry; I see after the "Archive" in the poster info so I guess that was the problem.
But still to have to go to yet another website to get forum charcter information, subsrciption?, find latest posts which I dont know where it is and I cant make new threads or do anything since I was a member around here since the good ole Cryptic days.
Now there is a Cryptic OP here? I dont know what the linkage is I thought they were all but gone and work only in an advisory capacity?
Anyways I submitted a Ticket and now I am going into another rounds of fighting with customer support on yet again the same matter: ACCOUNT ISSUE.
Man if I was a subscriber and played casual - I was lookin at a Life time SUB here - WOW I dont think so; they are lucky I dished $100 in FTP just so I can have resources to buy a lvl 50 ship which we FTP players are forced to do; which in the long run isnt really that bad; yes STO here is DEFINITELY Pay To Win if someone cant see that just play FTP and do some PvP - I dont even bother cause it aint my style I dont care much for PvP but STO FTP is probly the best FTP game around for casual players, Roleplayers, and even Mission Creators.
We dont need more websites - we NEED:
1) Major Foundry Support - This is what STO is all about now in my opinion.
2) The forum looks nice but why did I lose my forum character? If Subscribers lost their forum characters I can really sympathize wow...
3) Do something more creative with this game - add a new game engine - look what Eve Online did they added a planet and trying to link stuff; they aint doin so good but they are trying.
A Lifetime SUB was $200 for LOTRO and well worth it - this is not a $300 Lifetime game especially with a C-Store.
BTW I stream live STO and other MMOs - I aint posting the link cause I dont want my post to go bye bye. I like to stream STO on occasion !
(EDIT: Holy TRIBBLE ?! This Arcgames client is a way to track peoples' gaming habits and is ONLY geared to track PWE games??? You are really kidding me right? There are a few other MMO Game Trackers out there and I dont use any of them unless I belong to a few great guilds which I dont yet; I forget the one that started it all and there arent too many that use it any more opting for another game tracker or 2 and I forget which ones those are as well. I like the ones that keep track of your ranks wihtin the games ... )
(Edit: I guess Capt Smirk can change things for me but I will be like everyone else and do like I always do: wait.)

The forum merger was 2 years ago and was documented before then. No one got their post count back, everyone started back at 0 so yes I guess if you just now come back it'd be a shocker.
Also, no replying to threads over 30 days old is not allowed nor has ever been allowed which is constituted as necro'd posting. So don't know why that's a shocker either. And btw, discussing moderation actions isn't allowed either. I'd really read up on those rules that have been around since the merger.

In addition to this, it is mandatory to complain about the devs and their performance (not that kind of performance you perv) whenever you get the opportunity.
If anyone is foolish enough to praise the devs they will get so suspicious and waste at least a week looking for an exploit,
Why is that you ask? If not for an exploit for us to use/abuse, why would we praise them...
So in order to optimize developer efficiency it is only allowed to complain about the devs and their work.

Personally, I am of the opinion that it should be 60 days. Has that ever been discussed in your private mod forum? I think it'd be an idea to kick around.

Correction to my previous post: PWI is a game. PWE is the company, Not sure where you get your info from, but everyone know that PWE is a Chinese based company. Not saying that it's bad.

People saying things doesn't proof anything.
What matter is what ARC really does.
Unless you are a employee of PWE, you can't know for sure.
Again, you can't know for sure what kind of data being transmitted.
#1 when it works it works, when it doensent it reminds me of steams client 8 years ago)
#2 it conflicts with Adobe flash player and crashes it alot when you click on a link via the client that requires flash based content (has been doing this since adobe release version 12)
other than those two points nothing more to really say
I am getting sick and ****ing tired of getting a "502 Bad Gateway" error when going to http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/
Starfleet uniform code http://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/6005823 working at the time of posting this but sometimes it gives the error 502.
There are also times the Arcgames homepage won't load and gives the error. It seems to happen rather often.
Edit: I'm using the latest version of the Firefox web browser, but have been getting the error on that site since it existed.
Arc client patch notes: do they exist? Yes and no.
Another thing that gets on my friggen nerves: http://www.arcgames.com/en/arc-news/tag/arc-patch-notes NO RESULTS FOUND Go to Arcgames.com and click on "Arc News" at the top.
(Any more free gifts? C'mon PWE/ARC more bri... erm "incentives" please!)
It is a bad idea, please drop it.
And, by the way, it shares an acronym with the Association of TRIBBLE Citizens, (yes, I'm serious)
Thank you for listening.
I hope i made my point clear.

why do you gotta make it harder ?? every change you make just screws up what used to work fine!@!!!!
instead of removing your auto cultivation system which makes it impossible to complete quests,, like the title quests,," anti romantic & the bravo" much less any divines that the BOTS set up.. you do things like TRIBBLE up the public quests.. and the bounty hunter quests!!!

Me personally, im sticking with Steam, at least until STO gets its act together.
anyhow, on topic.

I'm sorry to people who I, in the past, insulted, annoyed, etc.
Possibly.
However is it possible, no matter how remote the possibility, that your nose became stuck in your exit hole while you were smelling your roses?
Same as above, dont want Arc
