NO I DONT WANT TO INSTALL ARC, IF YOU FORCE ME TO INSTALL IT TO PLAY STO I'LL SIMPLY STOP PLAYING.
There it is short and simple, got enough junk on my computer without installing what my fleetmates call a spyware and a piece of junk software. Work fine with steam on which I have a bunch of Steam game that I play with too if it stops working there I'll start it directly, if that stops working too, you will loose a player.
Even your new website is a CPU hog, I use to check news on sto website with my old computer. But ever since you change it I don't go on it anymore, that computer just slow to a crawl from all the junk, script and stuff on that page.

Perhaps it may be considered false advertising, but you still have the Ferengi shuttle + Lobi deal as a selling point for Arc despite that promo ending months ago. So, yeah.
Time is a funny thing; There is always too much of it. Except when you need it the most, then there is never enough.
i wonder if pwe is still looking over our feedbacK?
You made my day, still laughing!
Edit: It all comes down to one question: Do we trust PWE? Do we trust a company that is responsible for all the nasty things that happend in STO? My answer is clear: No way.
So you're a native speaker and I'm not. So what?:P

Of course, that's why with their latest update they didn't bother with a thread but changed it to an "ARC feedback email address."
And I'm sure it's completely coincidental that the new method keeps them from having threads full of negative feedback open for all the newcomers to see.

I know with 100% certainty it doesn't have [censored] to do with ARC. Maybe, now mind you this is a radical thought here, you could ask in the thread where someone posted it to begin with?

2: This is the arc feedback thread, i come here for info or to share info about it, naturally i would suspect they might look here since this is the thread they setup for it. Just because im against the their new gimmick doesnt make me wrong, it just makes me a target for what i mentioned in response #1.
i do like this game, but i blame pwe for making decisions that take away from the game the things that where convenient and in some cases fun!
I played long ago, but stopped for about two years, and when I came back i reinstalled with arc... can anyone explain why it's bad, in simple terms? It seems to me to just be an installer, and then you can launch the game like always. It took very little time (on my relatively slow connection) to install both STO and CO. Haven't seen or heard from arc since.

It's not spyware.

It's not sucking up system resources.
It's not there to brainwash you.

Prove it! ...and giving away free stuff or because someone says so, doesnt qualify! Read the EULA! Its plain and simple, you give them the same permissions to your pc as your security software, allowing them access to all of your activities, thats not welcome to me. exaggerating our position because you want to cover your ears and say "la la la" doesnt make us wrong! It helps PWE chase away people who already paid their money and outlived their usefulness to the company!
Other people have more complaints, but this one is mine, they have someday threatened to make arc mandatory there by blocking those who still want to use the cryptic launcher they bought. I paid for a lifetime sub and bought tons of unlocks from the cryptic shop, i will loose all of this because of some lousy 3rd party company! One who wasnt there or apart of the deal when i bought the cdrom and started playing the game!
If u like arc great...keep it and sit on it, but they can shove their launcher and even their (arc members only) website! That sums up my viewpoint feedback.

Read the EULA's on any game that has a launcher, they all have the same clauses couched in simular wording. It's all just to protect thier software, and our information in thier systems, from hackers. People are getting way over worked on something that isn't nearly as bad as they are making it out to be. Blizzard's EULA for thier launcher they state they can cancel all of your games and NOT refund you anything if you are caught cheeting. They have been taking snapshots of gameplay and systems since before they had the universal launcher.
If you want the company to do thier best to protect your account information, they have to have the ability to look at your system when you are connected to them to protect against any attempts to compromise thier internal security. That is what you are agreeing to in the EULA. ANd if you don't like the method they are using, which happens to be industry standard this day and age, then don't play. Just realize that if you play any MMO, you will have to submit to this level of scrutiny if you want to keep the account information secure with in reason.
And all gaming companies have learned that if you don't keep that data safe, they will get sued for millions by those 'users'. Which usually means the end of that game, if not the company too.

catstarsto has been on this "PWE is lying because look at their EULA" kick for months now. No matter what we've said, he keeps going back to it as proof that ARC is evil. He's even gone off to say that he threatens to sue because they broke "contracts" for STO and Champions Online.
At this point, a lot of it is just parroting misinformation.

A Hippocrate in action!^
You lying adder, i never threatened to sue anyone! i brought up a broken legal contract is ofcoarse, ILLEGAL! i also said many times i didnt want a refund i wanted what i paid for...and for it to work!
my mistrust of pwe is because of spending years being ignored when something i buy from em doesnt work right and they never fix it or try. or the ever popular nerfing or changing of something after i paid cash for it. i can bring up a dozen different things they did and i let slide in the past because i liked the game and was forced to tolerate being ripped off. Im not alone in the the hardcore feeling of NOT WANTING ARC!!! But today is another good example of why i trust them less and keep hating arc more; its not enough that they push u around and refuse to help, when a player doesn't agree with or gives negative feedback about something, they are attacked by pwe's own Goon squad!
Your "no matter what we said..." rubbish means little to me, you would promote arc if it came with poke in the eye, make that 2...and if your wanting to get personal, its sellouts like u that ensured pwe that they can get away with what ever they want to inflict on us, because ignorant people like you would sellout at the drop of a hat! We had a chance to spare the people who didnt want the burden of having it inflicted on em, if enough of us refused to download it....
im reaching the end of my patience of this matter, if players dont want it....that should tell u something. new people should know who they are dealing with, and to expect help only when it makes pwe more money! (ANGRY!!)

If it was just a game launcher i would probably be using it now, begrudgingly of coarse! Trendy explained what it was designed for and why, u already acknowledged it to be true and made excuses for em that they would never miss use its functions.
I cant determine if your trying to start the argument from the beginning to belittle my position for the newcomers or are just trying to agro me into leaving. Maybe u get brownie points from pwe for every holdout who gives up and just gives u the floor.

How they did the website was sneaky to!!
Dude, seriously? You are taking this way too personally. Whenever someone is dismissive of all of the claims or just doesn't get why these claims are coming up, you are usually the one who races up, screams "EULA!" or something equally asine as proof and get defensive (like right now) when someone tells them otherwise.
I don't want to start fights with you, but I will defend something like this on the basis on that I hate liars. I've given you my proof earlier that all of these claims are bumpkis. Now, I'd like your proof. Not a post from sparklesoft (sparkiesoft?) talking about the EULA. Not a heresay from Trendy. Actual hard proof.
For the record, I'm not with Arc, PWE, Cryptic and all of that. I'm just a video game player who doesn't understand why someone is having a heart attack over a GAME LAUNCHER.
Seriously, this is why I need to get away from the forums.

..yeah, your first paragraph...sound familiar there sport?
and i will stand firm everytime and say no to arc!! Proof, you found it yourself, its already been established that the arc clients main purpose is to gather data on our pc's activities...you know this, you wrote a large post about it when you researched it, why are you denying it now?? ...and why are you grilling me still, I dont want it, im firm on this! When ever I state that I dont want it, you or another jumps out of nowhere and begins telling me i dont know what im talking about, and that i should basically submit and just do as im told....thats whats kept the flame burning. Sneaking in and making it mandatory while it was still called "Beta" was underhanded, now no one can download the game or do anything unless they have ARC. I used to refer friends to this game, but not anymore. If PWE wants to be stubborn so will I!
I like to read the dev blogs like of the Voth ship but I can't because of Arc Game's arbitrary re-direct. I generally like Arc but.... this is extremely annoying. Sure I could read the wikipedia but when I search the forum for certain information? I kind of expect it to be there especially if it's about a lock-box ship I just won.
How about some love and unlcok your death-grip on forcing people to visit the 'new website' ? Or merge the devblogs here? Please?

Dude, you are twisting my words around. You are a very paranoid man. You've taken everything I've said and turned them into personal attacks on you. Not once have I said you should give up and submit to Arc. If you want to continued fighting against Arc, fine, but get your facts straight, man, and don't spout junk that you know isn't true. Fear monging is stupid and that's what I feel you're trying to do.
When the game came to steam it was asweome, a game I could play for days.
I still can but others cannot, the game is a mess on steam halve the players can't launch and the community is dying because there isn't any action.
To prove my point: a lot of game's have steam trading cards=> star trek who could make a dozen trading cards of there ships aren't making any.
Lots of game's are using steam to inform there players and keep them intrested=> the last post on steam is from 05/12/2013 from the winter event!!!
The discussion page of star trek is empty because there isn't (for as far as I now) a contact from sto it self that reads those post's and help's, informs the people.
Please do something about it, work together with steam to solve this problem and if possible put someone 24/7 on the steam forums to inform and help us.
Because I would like to see this game go on for a very long time and the community on steam could help with that but first we need help from u.
Was that before or after they denied this was the case?
Neglecting their steam user-base while focusing purely on Arc does make it seem a little more likely that they might be gearing up for a future competition/business drive. Nothing would be entirely wrong with that but... It'd be nice to see steam lovers.... not get totally ignored in the process.
Perhaps I'm totally wrong in my viewpoint.... as appearances are not always everything. Simply seems that way. Why pay attention to steam when you have arc to work on? Makes sense business wise.
1. Arc wont quit after exiting the game. The best option is to terminate its process tree in task manager. Otherwise, it will eventually crash other program or the comp due to memory leak.
2. It's a spyware. If you don't mind it collecting your system nfo and web activity, then it's fine.
3. It eats up your bandwidth. ARC is constantly communicated with PWI server. It would congest your network.
I haven't played any pwi game that requires ARC to launch due to all the reasons above. I use my computer heavily for work. I don't like to be spied on whenever it's just a sysinfo or my web activities. Another reason I don't want my computer to be spied on is PWI is a Chinese company. Their regulation about the nfo they collect are questionable. We all know that site like FB/Google collect our data when we login. However, we also know that the privacy law is heavy enforced and advocated unlike China.
I have 64GB RAM on my workstation and have no problem running simulators and other heavily resources demanded apps when I launch STO from its launcher and minimize it when I'm not playing. I only re-launch STO when there is an update. However, if I use ARC, my computer/my apps keep crashing for no reason.
If you want to verify what ARC is sending to PWI server, just use a sniffer and collect data.

I would re read a bit of this thread.
Steam does the same as #1
#2 - It is not spyware that's been proven by multiple people in this thread
#3 - ARC constantly communicates with PWE servers not PWI just like any mmo game. It doesn't congest your network as it barely sends any data.
It doesn't track your web session, your system information is basically like any mmo in existance and while PWI is a chinese company PWE is not and there are limitations to what htey can and cannot collect.
But ya know hey that's just my extreme knowledge and reading of details from a lot of people in this thread.

We had a chance to spare the people who didnt want the burden of having it inflicted on em, if enough of us refused to download it....
im reaching the end of my patience of this matter, if players dont want it....that should tell u something. new people should know who they are dealing with, and to expect help only when it makes pwe more money! (ANGRY!!)
...
...
Dude, it's a game launcher. You make it sound like it's done worse. Oy...
If PWE wants to be stubborn so will I!
...and if you hate lies so much quite telling em!
How about some love and unlcok your death-grip on forcing people to visit the 'new website' ? Or merge the devblogs here? Please?
Very good find! Thanks for sharing it!

Those that have it already can go to the themes page and update to get it working again.
(PWE altered the URL structure a bit)
Neglecting their steam user-base while focusing purely on Arc does make it seem a little more likely that they might be gearing up for a future competition/business drive. Nothing would be entirely wrong with that but... It'd be nice to see steam lovers.... not get totally ignored in the process.
Perhaps I'm totally wrong in my viewpoint.... as appearances are not always everything. Simply seems that way. Why pay attention to steam when you have arc to work on? Makes sense business wise.
Today at 11:26 AM (Server Time) I decided to log and play my game... how ever when I try to launch the game... I got a NASTY anti-virus detection....
I do not know if this is related to ARC or STO client so thought I'd let you know...
Here is a link to a pic: http://i.imgur.com/Fxyu9df.jpg
