Joystick/Controller Not Working [Fixed]

Installed patch, controller/joystick not working. Only on this game, it shows up under Windows and it it works in other games.

I have Joystick/gamepad enabled in Options... no motion or activity in game when I try to move/act.

Really need this re-enabled as I have severe arthritis and use a custom controller to play the game. Without it, I can't play at all.

Have the same problem, oddly enough I could have sworn I started a thread here about it but it seems to have disappeared. This game has a major part of the player base that uses controllers.

FIX this now. It could end up losing you lifetime players.

I've been here since the servers spun up, i've always used a custom controller because of my joint issues. If they have in fact disabled joystick/controller support I cannot play the game at all. Period. This is NOT funny.

    You kidding , right??

I cant find a reason why a player will choose a controler instead keyboard / mouse. The only reason is, as the op stated a problem of that matter.

But if this is true, it is a really important bug. Because people in the case as the op will not be able to play. I only hope you are not a LFS, because talking about cryptic, maybe it is not fixed ever..

    Oh I am.

And you know what... I expected something like this sooner or later. This is a zero priority for them, they have lockbox tool-tips that need spell-checking and uniforms to tweek. One semi-disabled player who can't play the game (even if she is LTS) means nothing to them.

We'll see. I don't expect anything to get fixed until Thursday at the soonest.

A controller gives much more precise control than simple WASD movement and access to all tray powers at your fingertips. I can't play with a keyboard and mouse, I could never get the hang of using a keyboard without looking down to make sure I'm hitting the right keys, which is something you can't do in combat. With a controller I never have to look away.

As for the LTS thing... I happen to be a lifetime subscriber so basically i lost out on my $300 for an unplayable game. the reason I bought it was because I could use a controller, and do so with my own custom set of binds.

I just posted about my logitech dual action not working. It was working before maintenance, but when i loaded up after server restart, it dont want to work now. Well, I can use skills and jump, etc, but can not move, not even the camera moves.
Someone in zone chat was having issues with their X-box pad.
So, this is affecting all controllers by the sound of it

I use a dual action, I don't own an xbox and didn't feel like paying the $50 for an x-box controller plus another $25 for a USB adapter to use one when the $20 dual action worked just fine. that was until today.

How can they let such a major mess up happen?

Is Cryptic hiring idiots for devs now?

This was reported on tribble but they seem to not have fixed this. I have the logitech F310. There is switch on the other side of my controller. I switched it to that and it worked. If you have something like that, I suggest anyone to change it over to that. You may have to switch your keybinds around though to work the way it did before as the buttons you hit are slightly different.

Well, obviously you dont have any idea. A keyborad has more response than a controler. Not to mention the mouse. Ive been playing games in video consoles and pc all my conscious life (more than 20 years). And you cant compare em.

"I could never get the hang of using a keyboard without looking down to make sure I'm hitting the right keys"

I dont get this. You know there is something called "shorcuts", right?

If you playing with your controler you have your button assigned to a skill. Why cant you do that on the keyborard lol?

It seems to me that you are another video console user new to the pc games, because keyboard + mouse have been always better than a controler. More precision, more speed and more evertyhing.

Once you get used to a keyboard becasue you ve been playing decades in a pc, using a controler is , well, horrendous. And again, i am a video console user as well, and i cant compare my gamepad with keyboard /mouse. I cant lol.

And about the LFS, really sorry, but well, if you bought the LFS years ago, you at least enjoyed it for a long time. If you bought the LFS now, its your mistake, since right now is not the right time to buy a LFS..

This isn't the first time i've heard about something like this. Something reported not working right on tribble, but they release the patch anyway.
Freakin joke devs, something reported, don't release it til its fixed. Any wonder there a million bugs in the game.
Explains why they never replied on twitter when i told them....because they already knew.

    LOL

I only brought the X box controller because i have a few games that i just cant seem to get my logitech to work on properly.

Like others, i like using my logitech in STO on my away missions......But nooooo, they knew about it on tribble but had to release yet another broken up mess of a patch to holodeck. They never learn
Hopefully it will be fixed by thursday. Til then, i think some of us are stuck with space missions only or not playing at all like the op :\

You may be able to Rig something using JoytoKey. I used that with my logitech Dual action for the commands, and left the Joystick control as it was with the game settings as it was more fluid.
Using this I can operate, but not as nice as I'd like. wasd with a joystick is clunky in JoyToKey, which is the reason I used the Game's settings for joystick control

I don't want to use joy to key though or anything similar. one of the advantages of using a controller was that it gives precise control of movement, if I only want to move slowly forward on ground I can I'm not set to a set speed like I would with a keyboard, the same with turning in space, I'm not limited to how slowly or fast I can turn because of the analog input of the controller.

I've heard that x-box controllers seem to be working somewhat at default settings.. but this does nothing for those of us who don't own x-box controllers. I own a logitech f310, but it doesn't work, not just in this game but anywhere, the controller itself is on the fritz, going as far as burning out a usb hub. otherwise I'd try using it in x-box mode. and my trusty logitech dual action doesn't seem to be working here, even though it works in champions online just fine.

Me, aswell. Sounds like the idiots broke it across the board.

For those saying controller sucks/whatever: I use a mouse and a Logitech G13. It has a thumb joystick in addition to a whole slew of keys.

The joystick is VASTLY better than wasd for any flying game. In fact, wasd is terrible for steering anything, for that matter. Steering needs more precision than "on/off". That's why you steer with a mouse in FPS. Mouse is great for high speed. Joystick is great for flying, since it lets you use the mouse to change the direction you're looking in, letting you look at something while steering in a different direction.

joytokey lets you set custom keybinds. as I said I have my keybinds managed via that, and not through the client. I had movement managed through the client and not joytokey.

Until they fix this I am forced to use Joytokey for movement as well, but at least I can play ground side with a controller.

My Saitek X-52Pro HOTAS flight stick is not working either, it seems like they have some how disabled/blocked all of the games X,Y,Z, etc;"Axis" controls, as I get no ship movement from any axis setting on my joystick but all of the Button Maps are working perfectly! I agree with several earlier posts, for Flying/Space Combat there is nothing better than a joystick/controller but for Ground Combat nothing beats the mouse & keypad/keyboard combination! The most common complaint for joysticks that I have seen, is that you cant use the Throttle Axis if you have a flightstick because the game will not recognize it, however with my Saitek software I have mapped every needed space combat command to my flightstick and that includes the throttle, therefore I never even have to touch the keyboard or mouse while I am in space, except for a couple of things that have no command button in the game, such as Warp in and out of star systems to sector space, I hope they get this fixed ASAP as I will not play the game without being able to use my Joystick and I will stop my supscription until this issue is fixed!!!

I agree with Chuckwolf. I like the way i can walk around esd or even my fleet base or wherever, take in the scenery, instead of pressing wasd and being stuck with jog or run.

I only use controller for away missions, as i am useless tryin to use the keyboard and mouse in any first or third person shooters. The space missions though, i seem to be able to do with keyboard and mouse. Some people, can use the keyboard and mouse, some cant.
My controller config, is setup in a way where 1 button acts as the "control" key to allow me to use the second skill tray with the D pad, while using the D pad on its own operates the first row of skill tray. I have also set up all my buttons and triggers to operate the same way. So, im good to go in away missions.....well....not atm cause its broken lol

I do not think this is a debate as to which system is better, as using a joystick is a preferred method for many players.

They really should fix the issue, and not force people used to playing one way to doing it in a manner they may have difficulty with.

They should fix this issue as it is something that worked a day ago, allow the people with controllers to have the same fun in this game as those who use keyboard and mouse only

    Thank you

I've always used a LogitechG13 for games, and for health issues, and mine stopped responding today as of new patch as well. This is a total game breaker for me, and as a LTS, and in the land of macro users, how can something like that be overlooked, is beyond me.

I see a lot of people complaining about this. I am not sure if they intended to remove it or it is a glitch. So far I have seen nothing saying that they will address it so i started complaining on their Facebook page. i doubt they read this forum but they may care if we take it public.

So far this patch has been annoying. I know things go wrong because most companies do not test their patches very well before they implement them.

Still I thought better of this company and this game and I am very disappointed. I put up with the huge imbalance between the factions and the total lack of care from Cryptic or whoever is running the show. But this joystick thing is the last straw. I have spent hundreds but no more.

I will not spend another dime until this game makes an effort to be balanced and fix the bugs and broken issues in ALL faction not just the one.And because I have arthritis I cannot play if they do not have joysticks.

    Very pathetic in my opinion.

Someone said earlier it was mentioned on tribble controllers stopped working. So, they knew about the problem, but decided to release a broken patch to everyone anyway.
The question is, why do they persist on releasing patches to holodeck that they know too well is full of problems on tribble? My only thought to this, is money and arrogance. Money, cause they wanted the new lockbox out that they know people will want to try and get ships from. Arrogance, because they just dont care what problems they are releasing to us on holodeck.
I thought about signing up for tribble, but whats the point when they release bugs on holodeck anyway? If they didnt do that, then yeah, i would sign up.
I'm LTS too, and im just appalled with their ethics.

I believe it was me who mentioned it. There were a few posts that posted about this on tribble under the bug reports section.

    http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1071391

To sum it up XBox controllers work but not the other ones. I had to change my controller to the xbox setting for it to work.

Did you change the switch on your controller. I have a switch on my controller fromnormal and then xbox input. This is what I have: http://gaming.logitech.com/en-us/product/f310-gamepad

I had to move the switch on the bottom of my controller from D to X.

Just an idea and I could be way off the mark, are they enabled in the options menu?

I noticed that when I went to play today for the first time since season 9 deployed, that many options were changed or new in general so I went through re setting things up.

I did notice options for joysticks and gamepads etc...

Oh and by the way, Mouse and Keyboard is much better anyway! (well in 9 situations out of 10)
