I remember a time when the devs at least claimed they were enthusiastic about the New Orleans, then Geko's dislike for kitbash ships reared its shiny bald head. So...who knows at this point.
I don't know how you two think it works, but it is significantly easier to make something from existing assets than from scratch.
The devs do not(and I think never have, not sure) take NPC ship models and send them off as player ships. Each ship they want to release that has been in-game before they retexture and whatnot so it looks better than a random low-detail game sprite when flown by us.

That didn't even make me flinch about the issue. So the head designer doesn't like 'em... so what? That's one person, who granted is in a position to have the final say about it(I think), but that doesn't negate all possibility of it happening.
Models, textures, and hardpoints do not a playable ship make.
thecosmic1 and I have been around for a very long time, so we get our 'ludicrous' idea from the horse's mouth.
Bear in mind that an NPC ship is different from a player ship. NPC ships are typically low-res to take in performance issues into account (this is documented fact because NPC ships get hi-res versions whenever players get a playable version of them).
If you bothered to read your own link, you might have figured out that the only part that has not been implemented for those ships is the "Systems (Powers & Stats) Design" (which is specifically mentioned) and testing.

Eh, The existing flyable Orion/Gorn/Marauder ships are pretty much the same quality in textures and meshes. Heck, in the case of the Orion Marauder, (a playable ship)-it has a large section of missing textures on the front end. None of the Gorn/Nausicaan/Orion NPC ships that I am aware of have problems on a scale like this.
Don't be grasping at straws man, we don't have anything personal against you. in the end, it's just a game, and this is just a message board. Ain't no shame in admitting you had the wrong idea about how things work around here and use that new knowledge to grow. =D
I can (unfortunately) see the devs making a New Orleans skin... just (C-store bought) skin it to the (C-store/Fleet/T5) Ambassador or Nebula or even Excelsior ... done... and we'll all be like "s****d devs, thats not what we wanted..."
This is also how i expect the Constellation skin to (finally) come out... glad i got that saucer when it was available!

That's not exactly grasping at straws. I specifically said that the ships are already 'physically' done- in other words appearance-wise and would pretty much only need to be given stats etc. If there's no shame in admitting one is wrong, then I think that perhaps I might be owed some apologies from folk who don't know how these things work.
Amusingly, I was thinking of linking that exact same article.

I think you should re-read the article, personally. Because it's a lot more than that.

The Orion Marauder was not an NPC ship. Neither was the Corsair or the Dacoit, or any of the playable Gorn or Nausicaan ships. These were brand new designs specifically to become playable ships.
The playable ships only became NPCs after they were introduced to the players. So they are naturally going to have hi-res textures, since they are essentially NPC AI in a playable ship skin.
It's not easily reverse-engineered, which the dev blog clearly proves.

Geko is not a fan of kitbash ships so I would not expect to see too many of those added to the game.
which it is a shame that one mans personal opinion is ruining the gaming experience for thousands of others.. if I was a big wig at cryptic, after that interview, I would have called him up to my office, and said, if the player base wants it, the player base gets it.. this isn't captain geko on line, its star trek online..
unfortunately, buisnesses with close minded management, seem to not do so well.. oh waite, that would be cryptics business model...

im also pretty sure that mr rivera is not the only one who has a say, nor the last word in it.. I think its more his personal opinion. if im not mistaken, hes not incharge of what goes into the game, but rather in charge of what it does in game?.. like he would design the abilities and consoles and balance the game if im not mistaken..
im pretty sure that if the ep said put all these ships in, the only thing he could do is slow it down..

What is the "player base?" To me the player-base is one person saying in a thread "give me X now" while the next person in another thread is saying "give me Y now," and often X and Y are complete opposite of each other.
For every person who wants to see time spent on the Freedom Class there is another person who thinks spending man-hours on that is a waste of time and that Cryptic should be doing some other ship entirely. Geko's job is to pick the things Cryptic believes will sell the most. That item is not always what some person, or even some small group of people, want.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Their quality is comparable to the npc ships IMO, and if the textures are lower res, they certainly aren't to the point where it's noticeable.
As I mentioned before, the Marauder has worse texture problems than any of the npc ships, yet got the seal of approval.
Even if the skins were garbage-which I don't believe- a large section of the blog is devoted to showcasing how flexible and easy their skinning tools are. They wouldn't have much of a problem putting a Romulan hull texture on a Sovereign, for instance. Making a better skin for such ships wouldn't be much of a problem I think, compared to making a ship from scratch.
I'm glad he does not want it, I'm glad he is not one of those Trek fans that must have every ship in game even the stupid one.
what is stupid to you, might not be for others.. what you cherish, others hate.. remember, this game is not just made for neoakaraii and captain geko. I hate that there is enemy faction ships all over fed space, but I gave way to it because it is something others like..
I bet if they released each of those ships, even if just add on skins. they would make a killing from it..
and there lies the point.. each of these vessels should be represented, even if just a skin of another ship build..

cryptic has said in the past, even after lor, that the amount of people who play the federation, compared to the amount who play the other factions like 50 percent feds, and the rest the other two factions..
they have said this time and time again, that the feds get more attention cause the demand is there for it..
they said that was why they were not gonna rebuild the Klingon faction, from scratch like people wanted..
they have also said that the sales of federation items trump the other factions.. right now. there is federation ships set to be released, and no klink or romulan ships leaked or even being spoke of.
so when I say player base, I mean numbers.. the sheer number of people. fleets, and sales that one faction generates..
and no cosmic. it is not a 1:1:1 ration when it comes to people wanting something in this game.. its more like a 5:1:1.
search it.. its here in the forums.. cryptic devs have said many times that the fed population and sales are much much higher than the other factions.. don't believe me or them.. go into game, and q up for say, 15 straight instances. more than half of the total players you will play with will be feds.. go to esd, and see how many people there are, and how many instances are full, then look at the other factions.. cant touch it with a ten foot pole..
im not trying to say the other factions shouldn't get anything.. im just saying, it is why the feds get more.. if cryptic has proven anything in the last 4 years, its that they care about money over quality, or equality in this instance..
I for one think that every time they release a fed ship, they should release a ship for the other factions.. like the anniversary ships.. but I have noticed that we get more bs alien ships cause they make them available to everyone.. (well we get more of them now than we used to..)
How about you take your own advice, just becasue you think the ship looks good, does not mean you have a following of a Thousands players behind you.
Just becasue you like something does not mean Cryptic will make a fortune, it's a two way street
its simple numbers.. I have been fallowing threads that garner support for these ships. there is enouph support to justify them.. do I think cryptic should stop everything they are doing and make them all at once.. no.. but.. there is a logic that I fallow, if one person likes something, or doesn't like something, then there is a big chance there is a chance that at least 25 % of the player base will like or dislike the same thing..
in this case, this being a star trke game. and the fallowing these ships have gotten in the ship yards, and the fact that a year and a half ago it was stated that most of these ships were gonna be released., i would have to believe that at least half the player base would enjoy seeing these ships in the game..
its kind of like when the fan boys try to debunk someone who has a negative comment.. lets take the grindaverary.. and people were saying that just because a resounding number of people on the "forums" didn't like it, that it did not reflect what the player base felt.. well, that is TRIBBLE logic. its like presidential polls, they don't poll everyone, but they poll enough to get the gyst.. and its usually right..
so by that logic. if x amount of people on the forums support, or not support something, its a good bet that the same percentages will hold true for the entire player base..
kind of like when they polled for the excelsior. they new the whole player base would not vote on it, cause only a certain percentage of the player base actually visits the forums, but they polled it and got a good idea of what the "masses" would like by seeing how the smaller community on here felt..
these ships would not be a mistake.. they would make money.. maybe not out sell a lot of whats out there, but they would.. and making these ships is not hurting people like you who do not like them.. i hate crptic designs, as i am a canon freak, but. i don't let them bother me, nor do i come on here with pitch forks to try and stop them from being released.. you get what you want, we get what we want.. the end.. you coming on here and bashing everyone who likes it does no one any good..

yeah sorry, i had a momentary brain far lol.. im fixing it now lol..
I asked the Starship Collectors team if they also plan to release those ships, they want to but need CBS's approve.
And I would also love to see SOME of the other Perpetual ships in there. They do pretty much have a unique futuristic design and some look badass.
This Cern ship for example could be a real Science Destroyer, and not a Science OR Destroyer Transformer ship.
The Tahoe would be a fast attack ship.
