In the end it all comes down to consoles and set bonuses and stuff.
It's not like anyone who isn't a Trek fan would have heard of the Vesta, but it still sold pretty well. I'm willing to bet it wouldn't have sold any less if one of its variants had looked like the Springfield or something.
^^^ this exactly. right now, a large portion of people who play the game since f2p are less trekish fans. people who wouldn't know what any of these ships look like.. its hard for anyone to sit down and say that no one will buy a ship because of its looks, cause without a pole. no one knows how many like or dislike something.
that being said. more than half the people in this game do not buy ships for their looks, they buy them for their boff loadouts and their hard point loadouts.. and unfortunately all the game breaking nick nacks they come with. lol.
I think that if you were to release these ships, with some interesting new twists in boff loadout (not gamebreaking), but just making people think differently (say a cruiser with a cmdr sci or tac boff instead of a cmdr engineer) it would peek peeps interest and it would sell well..
how are they striving to fix imbalance when they keep releasing ships like the avenger and scimitar. but decide to take a ship that in canon would wipe the floor with those two ships, and make it such a meh build lol..
Releasing new ships doesn't have as much to do with their fixing imbalance as people think.
I agree, they have their reasons for not doing or doing something, but please, do not bring up balance. cryptic has absolutely no idea what that word means.. nor do they care, it is how they sell stuff.
They do care though. They are just going about it wrong, giving the illusion that they don't care. What works on paper(what they develop) doesn't necessarily work in practice(what we experience), mind you.
Its 2410, i think we have enough old ships And there are more beautifulships than these kitbashes. Maybe a tier 5 connie or a Tier 5 Constellation cruiser. Not more kitbashes and especially not some like the Yeager type.
I would favour some refits. The Venture class brought the Galaxy designt to the 25th century and same gors for the REgent clas ith the sovereign design and the Exeter and Excalibu with the Constitution, and the Armitage/Thunderchild with the Akira class.
Why not some refits for the Excelsior and Ambassador and other classes? The Vivace skin for the Intrepid for example.
and not to mention a proper Tier 5 Norway and Steamrunner with comparable hull strength (possibly a fleet version too).
That's guaranteed once the Constellation comes out, as it's classified as a Heavy Cruiser, and there is already a Heavy Cruiser Retrofit, a Mirror Universe Heavy Cruiser, and a Fleet Heavy Cruiser, all tier 5. =D

ahhh. but it does.. cause its basically all cryptic does anymore is release ships lol.. we used to get skins and bridges and what not, but lately, the crowning achievments of their year is usually the ships they released.
that being said, they are clueless to balance. their idea of "balancing" cruisers was to give them a buff they share with everyone else anyways.. thus, the cruiser is still behind all the other ships lol..
releasing a ship like the scimitar is proof they don't care.. almost everyone can agree that this game has transformed into scimitar online, and they "knew" that was gonna happen. why, cause they wanted that to happen.
and they keep on making content that the tacscorts and tactical oriented builds dominate in. there is NO reason to make a tank spec. there is NO reason to make a heal spec. there is NO reason to make anything other than a full out tactical build.. when I ask most other captains who have ships with universal boff seating (fed) over 90 percent of the time, im told its used as a tac slot. simple enough there is no such thing as balance in this game, and there will not be, cause balance does not pay the bills. making the new flavor of the week that rofl stomps everyone does pay the bills.

well I think there is room for both. I think they should make a cryptic design that correlates with the older designs (cause remember, most of the ships in question are well, well within their refit and life cycle with Starfleet.) so those who want a taste of new ugly 2409 cryptic designs can have them, and thos of us who want the canon ships we love can have them. its win win.
steamrunner is in game, and is comparable to fleet version.. (you need steam to get it). I have one, it rocks, looks sexy too. and yes on a Norway.
And yes, I would settle for a "Wolf 359 Graveyard Skins Bundle", especially if each of those skins could be applied to tier 5 refits/retrofits.
If i could buy a skins bundle of canon star trek shilp designs , take my zen now. But if there gonna make the skins , might as well go all out and design the guts of the ship. Good idea tho.
Geko is not a fan of kitbash ships so I would not expect to see too many of those added to the game.
How about if they actually stop deciding on their own on which ship to make next and just listen to us (the customers), put up polls, then make the top ship that was voted for?
That might be too logical though.
The Galaxy-threadnought might have made them more sales, especially if they actually modified the ship that was being discussed.

The last ships that were released were the Dyson Science Destroyers if you don't count the Galaxy bundle. And there have been so much content released since. Mainly season 9... and the only ships released in that while content update are the lockbox and lobi ships. To say that the only thing that Cryptic does any more is release ships is patently wrong.
Their "crowning achievements" are just a matter of opinion.
Well I don't count the Galaxy bundle since they didn't actually fix any of the graphics problems with the ships and by the looks of things it doesn't look like they ever will.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

lol, yes, I saw a lot of bug fixes in there, and I saw some balance stuff, but still, I didn't see something saying oh, we nerfed the scimitar, or any of the other ridiculously op ships in the game that are purchasable.
and yes, I worded that wrong. what I meant to say is that they rely on those ship releases (weather lockbox or otherwise) cause that is where they get the bulk of their money. and they get more and more ridiculous with them everytime it seems, to try to get everyone to buy the newest flavor of the week. what next. 6 fore weapons and 4 rear. or is it gonna be a scimitar rebundle that lets them have their 5 front, and their what 2 yrear, but also adds 2 broadside or something silly.
listen I like where their content is going. they actually seem to be getting a grasp on how to make playable content. allabeit, they have along way to go, but I give them credit that they have found the pulse. however, I cant turn my head to their blatent cash grabs (such as the scimitar and the avenger). every where I go, I see mostly these ships, which is the way they want it.. that is not balance my friend. lol..
and I do agree with an earlier statement you made, about them making a big wolf 359 skin bundle.. I havnt opened my wallet for cryptic in a little over two years, but I would for that..

Who said anything about the C-store now...? =3
90 percent of the ships released in game are c store ships. even lockbox ships and lobi store ships. as keys originate from the c store. even fleet ships are c store ships. (each and every one) as most of the modules are at some point purchased from the c store. (I love buying the same ship over and over and over again. lol)
thus, when you talk ship releases, you talk c store ships. even ships like the anniversary ship are realistically c store ships. as you get the better version in c store. and cryptics hope is that most people do not have the patience to grind for it, so they will open their wallets, buy keys, and get lobi to expedite the process.
so my whole response concearning cryptic blatently unbalancing the game via ships (ie, scimitar and avenger and what not) is directly about their needy greed to sell ships through the c store.
don't get me wrong, I get that a company needs to make money and what not. but when I look at the money I have spent, and I ask myself if I have gotten the value for the money. I say nay.
plus cryptic takes it to a whole new level.. they said the game wouldn't be p2w (that got flushed down the toilet pretty quick). they originally said the c store would be monitary, only skins and costumes and bank slots and what not. ummm, I don't need to say anything. lol.. and now, they are releasing ships that are in essence breaking the game just to make a buck.. they have no back bone, nore do they show any care or need to make an enjoyable game. they seem to take little pride in the game, as they have no problem blatently messing it up..
just to prove my point. I run with a group of people.. its the same people I have run with for years. now 2 of them used to be min max defients (putting out what was ridiculous dps) I had a ship that was not too far behind them, and the other two were not far behind in damage out put.. it used to take us maybe 10 minutes to run an ise.. the 2 defient flyers hopped all over the scimitars whent hey came out (as they had romulans as well) and the other three of us stayed in our own ships. we went from a 10 or so minute all clear, to a 2 minute all clear, just by adding to scimitars.
there are videos on you tube of scimitars and avengers clearing ise in less than five minutes without destroying the generators. that is not balanced. and the purposely introduced that unbalance to sell ships. they knew exactly what it was they released, and they wont fix it either.

The Anniversary ships are definitely not C-store ships. You choosing to get the "better" version is up to you.
And if you wanna talk about how every ship is "really" a C-store ship by following its procedure down to originating from the C-store, then you can do the same tactic and say that all C-store ships are F2P ships that you don't have to pay a dime for, ever.

Assuming something, then attacking whom ever the assumption was about is unproductive and just appealing to your own agenda.
Also, Cryptic isn't a charity. Okay so you acknowledge that they NEED to make money. But there's no reason to assume that they do not want to make money while at the same time making the players happy. In fact, they'll make more money when the playerbase is happy. And it's reasonable to assume that they know this.

This game is definitely not P2W. Even if I agreed with your original argument, you can buy yourself a Scimmy or an Avenger without dropping cash if you can grind up 350,000ish dilithium.

One anecdotal testimony does not a good argument make. However, I do see your point there - comparing tactical ships. But comparing an Escort to a Warbird is different than comparing an Escort to a standard Cruiser.

Not balanced with PvE gameplay, I'll give you that. I can't say anything about PvP, I have little to no experience there.
