Why more aceton to fight more faw... I like that idea...
We can all run faw boats that drop Acetons.
Or Fed Barrier fields... another great anti faw tool lmao
Fair point about Aceton, though I wonder how many people would actually know how to use it effectively outside the normal circles.
I don't think anyone would really miss Barrier Field. :P
But my cautionary message is more about stuff like giving some Romulan stuff to non-Roms. Valdore console anyone? Or even going so far as to give out tier 5 consoles. You may think I am nuts, but I wouldn't put it past em, they did stuff that we never dreamed, yet it happened.
Cloaked Barrage on a Defiant? Odyssey using a Phaser Autocannon? Tachyon Detection Grid on a Varanus? Etc.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Oh ya I got ya... the rom consoles are all pretty ship bound in there design. They are all part of 2 piece ship bonues... so I don't think that would happen. About as much chance of them loosing romulan ship sales as there would be in seeing Federation Cloak Consoles in a box I would think. All the romulan consoles are Warbird consoles not romulan consoles. For instance a romulan in a lockbox ship can't use the valdore console.
But my cautionary message is more about stuff like giving some Romulan stuff to non-Roms. Valdore console anyone?
Would the Valdore console set and its bonus really matter if it was handed out to others at this point? Warbirds would still be better and its not like they care about balance, that or they don't understand the concept"

My Fed Hirogen ship feels like its on par with my rom toons... I can't believe I just said that.
Really though Running 1 Emabby Rom Superior OP ... 1 Sup Inf (gives you 200 stealth points all the time with the hirgoen ship)... and a few Humans for the Sub Repair.
Gotta Say throw in some embassy/Spire/mine cosnoles (yes I know the roms can use those to)... still point is feels very powerful.
This lockbox may be a bit of a bust on the whole... but I am loving the Escort. Its fast small turns nice great inertia numbers... and the spin console is more fun then I thought it would be. (Shuts of your hirogen passive cloak while the dmg bonus is up though which sort of sucks)
Ok ill just comment here as i bought everything from the hirogen lockbox and lobi related stuff too, minus some of the traits.
The ships are both brilliant. Very flexible. And the stealth passive is great!
The consoles are good. but not OP. The 180 is more useful for the Apex cruiser than the escort in my opinion. The photonic decoy is decent, but don't worry about the damage part, its minor. The Alpha decoy console is fun but pretty lame for anything other than evasion purposes. I have Fleet tet tac consoles, and it still only does minor damage. The best part about it is it lets you stealth away and resets cooldowns.
The Hirogen armour is excellent. For best results, use on a reman, with the Dyson shield and rifle and a melee weapon. The armour complements the reman trait of expose attacks very well and the dyson rifle exposes a lot. It also unlocks a costume option so you can still have the look if you dont use the armour.
The Hirogen space set from the lobi store is good. Not great but good. I like the fact single cannons are being made as parts of sets. Because they are normal cannons, you can use them as part of both a cannon build or a beam build. This cannon doesnt lose any damage over range and it shoots to 12kk so thats a really nice part of it. The 3 piece special attack is average, if you buff it up with all your tac cooldowns its pretty nasty but the weapon has x3 crit so no acc so it can miss easily if you dont time it right. Tethered mines are great. To give them a good run out i tried them with the extra tethered mine spawn doff, the new double mine range trait, and good dispersal pattern. With aux 2 batt they can be re spawned very quickly. Good for escorts i think as you can swing them into hit after you make a pass and hopefully drop shields. Cruiser they are good for close range broadside, they just fly straight into the same side of shield as you are attacking. For cruisers they are also good for trailing behind to catch out those escorts. The console is slightly below average, but overall its a good set, and most importantly FUN. Same for the ships.
The ships look good too, dont judge them from the pictures here on the web. see it in the game, the cruiser looks badass.
Hope this helps some people.
EDIT: If you didn't realise already, the 180 console can not be equipped on Rom warbirds.
EDIT2: Didnt realise either that the Alpha decoy console is broken, and reduces all your cooldowns, not just boffs.
" Experience is a hard mistress, she gives the tests first, and the lessons after... "
Ya on the set... they honestly went way to light with the Cannon... its dmg is so pathetic that it isn't helped at all by the no range limitation...
It should have been given the exact same dmg as the Elachi Heavy Single Cannons... yes I know it has 12k and no range limitations... however I think it would have been much better if had gotten a 90degree arc or something as an offset. Or really nothing change arc wise... fact is its still Tetryon which is a less then desirable weapon type... where as elachi is disruptor which needs to stop getting Cryptic help. lol
The Console is pathetic... it should be op for defense the way the other lobi consoles are for offense. lol
It gives a little bit of spec of ID which no one runs consoles for for obvious reasons... and a little bit of defense. Yes nice but hardly Lobi console worthy... heck your better off with a dyson console for the + defense and +resistance. This thing should have had another 10% or so resist all on it. At least that would make it on par with all the other console options that are out there for defense... as it is its not even Mine / Dyson level for defense console.
The mine is fun yes... I will admit... but pretty much trash as well... by default it only dumps 2 mines... and to be honest I had a hard time getting it to lock on to targets...
So think about the 3 piece set for a min... and let this soak in.
You have a cannon with pathetic dmg that has a 12km range... a Snipe mode that is on a 3min cool down... and misses 90% of the time in PvP and 50% of the time in PvE.
So your a Sniper right ? Wrong because you are also dumping mines that are STUCK to you like glue and only drop if you fly directly into someones hull... which makes perfect sense because you are a sniper my friend.
Worst 3 piece lobi set of them all.
I could live the mine because they do look cool and they are good faw protection I guess if you can fit a mine pattern. lmao
Really though don't waste your lobi on that set unless your a masocist.
EDIT - also want to say the lobi sets have gotten worse and worse for the ships they are intended for. I don't want another tif don't get me wrong. lol they went though from TIF Way OP.... to 3 extra haywire charges. so so but at least they had a good chance to proc. (so they do work on the elachi ships and pretty much don't on anything else)... to this one 25 weapon power drain instead of 50... on something that still has a 2 second wind up lol... which is already a built in DPS killing mechanic. I'm going to stop typing about it now though cause its sort of pissing me off, as I obviously dropped 600 lobi on it to test it out. haha
Fair point about Aceton, though I wonder how many people would actually know how to use it effectively outside the normal circles.

I think they've found the way around that with the new pan-faction consoles we get in lockboxes.
Now all they need to do is continually create a new console every few months that is attractive enough to help motivate the low impulse crowd to keep opening boxes while not trouncing the game with more power creep.

It should be a cakewalk! :P
They need to stop playing footsie and just make Single Heavies a real weapon type at this point, using the Elachi Heavy as the Template.
Add it to the next Star Base expansion, covering all energy types.
The only issue I could see with SHC is the arc and damage. I could see it slotting above single cannons or equal to dual cannons with a smaller arc than singles but bigger than dual cannons.
Hey I Used to be Captain Data, well I guess I still am in game but the account link really screwed everything up
The only issue I could see with SHC is the arc and damage. I could see it slotting above single cannons or equal to dual cannons with a smaller arc than singles but bigger than dual cannons.
Well let's be honest, Singles are in a weak place right now.
There is no significant advantage to slotting Singles when you can slot BAs.
BOFF seating opportunity costs due to power tiers, having to choose between single target or AoE, and the best you can combine your Fore Single Cannons with would be 3 to 4 turrets while being trickier to Broadside with.
DHCs vs. Single Heavies with Elachi as template would be the tougher call.
Maybe the Elachi would need a slight down-tuning.
At base the Elachi Heavy has about 85% the DPV & DPS of a DHC (base, working from STO Wiki)
That's a raw output loss of 15% (in both aspects) vs. a DHC build (about 2 to 2.25 Tac consoles worth)
Would players flock to a weapon type that gives them an arc that is 4x wider but costs them a little more than -2 Tac consoles? It's a tough call.
If they have a higher BTR than 14, the answer is likely to be no (since they can make DHCs work) - which would relegate this to ships that are 14 turn an under but also have at least Lt Tac and most likely Ltc Tac (with the Caveat that I run a Fleet Avenger that hits 50 turn rate when APO is up - filed under "making it work").
So you might be right, perhaps the base DPV would need to be tuned down another 5% to maybe 10% vs. a DHC.
My Fed Hirogen ship feels like its on par with my rom toons... I can't believe I just said that.

i had no doubt that that escort would feel awesome to use. a vet ship without the turn penalty basically.

Of course, this escort is another perfect exemple of power creep.
Vote for a 42k hull 1.3 shields 21 turn hideki fighter with fleet norgh layout in the next lockbox !
Not sure why Starfleet and the KDF keep using their obsolete bigger ships. This game leans too much on the ridiculous side of things, bah no one cares anyway.
I'm gonna keep spamming faw because it's the only viable alternative to a non alien non rom ship.
Question about the Lobi set: Does the sniper shot put BO on cooldown? And how is it's damage?
No it doesn't but its a 2s wind up with -50 power like overload (-25 on hirogen)... the dmg is god awful. Imagine an overload out of a single cannon... its pretty much that bad. I think they thought the saving grace would be that it can hit more then one target with in a stupid small aoe range of 3k or something like that. Its pretty bad. It also has a min range of 4k... and if your target crosses that line before the 2s wind up well that was that... nice.

Don't waste your lobi.
Well thats disappointing. Was hoping I could put back some double tap fun on some weird Tetryon Dhelan I've been flying.
What are we looking at? 10k?
Isaac the Adequate - Level 70 Oath of Devotion Paladin
If you are very very lucky with it perhaps. I would think more like 8k when it hits which won't be often.
If your trarget moves out of arc or closer then 4k to you before it goes off its a miss 100%.
Its just plain bad.
it sounds... ok for a non cloaking escort to lead off with wile it goes from out of range, to fully tac buffed coming right at someone for an alpha. bet its energy drain is bad though huh? probably drains as much as BO, but deals less damage? a SHC shot should be higher then a beam array shot, or even a DBB shot i would think. sure you could stack it with BO i guess, marion might almost have a use again. probably wouldnt shake out to being better then another DHC in the long run

If your not in the hirgoen ship its -50 power.
You won't use it on a run no... next time your in an escort hit omega and move forward and see how long it takes you to go from 12k to 4k on something lol... you'll be hitting reverse so you don't go over the line and get nothing at all.
Ya it does no dmg at all... even at 9k out a DHC hits for a bit more dmg.
Only time it does more dmg then other cannons is at 10-12k cause they can't fire. lol
Its horrible... taken in combo with the set bonus that forces you to use mines that are stuck to you... it makes the entire idea of 12k seem really really stupid. Was not very well thought out at all.
What they should have done... {Also like to say they really really have to start asking us about these lobi type consoles sets... I know they don't want info leaking out... but they are obvioulsy not capable themselves. lol}
1) Make the snper shot min distance 2km... and either remove the wind up or increase the dmg 50% or so on it... and drop the cool down from 3 min to 2... or perhaps even 1:30 its not near as OP as Proton Barage is so 1:30 would have been fine honestly. The cannon itself... change it a bit... give it dmg range fall off that is 50% better then cannosn (instead of no drop off)... and bring the dmg up to Elachi Single heavy numbers.
2) made the console not suck so bad. It should have got what it has + a resist to all dmg. (Yes a universal armor console)... give it like a +10% resistance to all dmg. This would have made it at least desriable in the same way the Elachi and Time cosnoles are. Would have been a P2W defense console as much as those ones are P2W offense consoles.
3) Made the mines drop 3 per drop instead of the 2 they do now. There still mines no one is going to be crying oh my OP Quantum mines any time soon.
4) Set bonus... 2 piece bonus "Advanced Hirogen Mine Synergy" - a Skill that when used on any target with in 12 km would turn any of your tethered mines on that target. So you could basicly fling mines at people. They would still travel at the standard quantum mine travel they would just be able to be locked on to a specific target and travel to get there.
3 piece could stay the same the tet sniper mode.
Had they done that it would not be OP... it would get used... People would drop 200 lobi for the extra uni mini armor console... fat ships might even take the mine and console set for the ability to use the tether / Fling mine. They would have multiplied there sales 100 fold... they wouldn't have annoyed any PvPers ... and PvE people would be having fun flinging dispersal pattern quantum mines at borg.

oh, one of those stupid activation times huh? 4 range is absolutely crazy, no escort is more then 4 range from the a target its trying to kill. the beach ball only has a 2 km lockout doesnt it? if anything those ranges should be switched.
ya, better combo a 12 range gimmick with a mine gimmick, that makes sense lol. at the very least, the BO power should have had at least the damage multiplying of BO1, a single heavy cannon's damage per shot, being that theres only 2 of them, CANT be lower then a DBB's damage per shot, when it fires 4 of them. it has no excuse for dealing less damage then a DBB BO3 does, especially when its not an instant hit like beams are.

i dont understand why lockbox stuff doesn't get the same sort of... feedback gathering event and c store stuff gets. it needs the most by far.
quantum mines win the award of most useless mine. at least photons can be spammed to cover the screen with TRIBBLE easier. mine blow up against shields 99.5% of the time, and shields run a low average of 85% resistance to kinetic. transphasics with bleed and plasma with proc only have a reason to exist because of their secondary effect. the way shields and knetic damage interact is beyond a joke.
what a perfect exchange for a FAW nerf though, make shield more vulnerable to knetic the same time, so we can have an alternative to all beam builds, and run torps and energy on everything. this game needs a paragon shift from this balance joke that exists right now

I fully agree with you and have already stated my reservations in this thread earlier. In fact, on the first day it was released, my jaws dropped, reading the tooltip information. Proud to say I opened 0 - absolutely 0 Hirogen lock box and didn't spend any lobi.

This is probably the first time we agree on something. That's why the only mines I use are the Nukara although Tricobalt Mines with DPB III can be interesting. They are about the only type of mines that actually scare PvPers. But Nukara does little to no damage to shields, which I need for follow up attacks if the target didn't die.
It seems pretty unanimous so far, as far as the feedbacks are concerned regarding this new lock box. Another poorly designed lock box that many people just ignore.
Shield's dmg resistance to kinetic need to capped at 75% as they are for Energy weapons. No sense is giving shields to resist kinetic better than the maximum cap of Energy weapons, leading to vast majority of people using energy weapons and nothing else. I suggest the base resistance of shields to kinetic dmg should start at 60% and max out at 75%. That way, shields will still absorb most of the kinetic dmg however, the overall gameplay will become more balanced between energy and kinetic.

id build in a 10% resistance to kinetic, and thats it. and give torp skills the same 20 second cooldown FAW has maybe.

10% kinetic resistances only on shields would be far too low. All you'd need would be a Quantum Torpedo boat with 4x Quantum Torpedo Launcher Mk XII [Acc]x3. You'd strip shields in one volley and you'd kill the target in the second or third.
i know, its so much to ask. i took that joke of a game ST legacy and moded it into a balanced star trek simulator, im not asking the impossible
Honestly, the only thing Trek about STO is the name. I remember the first day I played it...shoot...scan....shoot.....scan......shoot........scan........so boring and so not Trek, but I was flying a starship, so I stuck around. The ships were about the only thing truly Trek-like in game, and that's not even true anymore. Sad really.

I'm going to stop typing about it now though cause its sort of pissing me off, as I obviously dropped 600 lobi on it to test it out. haha
So you might be right, perhaps the base DPV would need to be tuned down another 5% to maybe 10% vs. a DHC.
barriers are targetable and have hitpoints. it would be a snowball in hell vs a fawpug
i had no doubt that that escort would feel awesome to use. a vet ship without the turn penalty basically.
/10thoughts
Of course, this escort is another perfect exemple of power creep.
Vote for a 42k hull 1.3 shields 21 turn hideki fighter with fleet norgh layout in the next lockbox !
Not sure why Starfleet and the KDF keep using their obsolete bigger ships. This game leans too much on the ridiculous side of things, bah no one cares anyway.
I'm gonna keep spamming faw because it's the only viable alternative to a non alien non rom ship.
What they should have done... {Also like to say they really really have to start asking us about these lobi type consoles sets... I know they don't want info leaking out... but they are obvioulsy not capable themselves. lol}

I do have to agree with the last post, you want to swing the pendulum too far the other way leading to torpedo spamming hell.
Better yet, keep the current resistance for torpedoes, but somehow lower it a bit for mines. That way people will use them more.
a torpedo rebalance may be necessary, but the goal should be combat that actually looks like something from trek, and be balanced from there
You mean the STO Disco Ball Style combat isn't Trek? You're kidding me.
i know, its so much to ask. i took that joke of a game ST legacy and moded it into a balanced star trek simulator, im not asking the impossible
Sad really.
