Alright, alright... I get the whole patience thing and of course I realise there is no reason for them to intentionally keep us out of the game and of course they are doing everything they can, balancing the needs of the many dollars against the needs of the few dollars, to get us back online. Let us be honest... none of us would skip their weekend or evening off if we can help it.

That said, some of the posted comments, adapted song lyrics and whatnot are funny. Sometimes all that's left to do is poke fun at a situation. And that is exactly what I felt like doing when I just got that email from Star Trek Online, announcing the Season 8 content update:
Our latest content update, Season 8: The Sphere, is now live on Holodeck! In this update, players will travel through an Iconian gateway to the Solanae Dyson Sphere, a mysterious construction on the edge of the Delta Quadrant that is the prize in a struggle for control between Joint Alliance Command and the Voth. Once there, explore our first Space Adventure Zone, fight for control in the Battlezone, participate in brand new max-level events, and more! Look at what you can experience in this update, as well as watch our brand-new trailer.

Everyone here knows what that email ought to have read:

I understand it now! It's a Voth plot! The fewer captains that are in the game, the greater chance they have of capturing spires and getting away with Omega molecules! The Voth are behind it all!

Since Season 8 was launched I cannot get on with my main toon. As soon as I hit play it loads until 94.75 percent and then Crash. I then log in again using my Alt, I will get into the game for about 5min, then Crash. I continue to do this until all my alts have been used. It is then, I cannot load into the game at all until the following day. How many crashes do i need to endure before leaving the game.......10 - 50 - 100 - 500 - 1000????? I know am ranting, but I'm just a little P#*&^D.

I love this game and the new content looks so good, if only I was able to play it.

Because I haven't been able to get into the game since Season 8 launched, due to the crash to desktop when the character selection screen starts to come up, I've been playing Neverwinter.

I wanted to check out some of the new things they have coming up over there for Module 2, so I patched up the Neverwinter Preview server and logged in.

    Guess what?

Just after I got past the loading screens, and the character selection started to come up, the game crashed to desktop.

It would appear that this is not strictly a STO problem, but a problem with whatever upgrades they are doing to their base game engine, which is roughly the same for all three of their MMOs, including Neverwinter and Champions Online.

I'm guessing that over the next few months, we're going to see a lot of growing pains from the technology upgrades.

Has anyone else seen on the bottom left corner of their screen "Material files reloaded" once or twice because I have and I've made it to the character selection screen but when I move my mouse, the client crashes back to my desktop?

    Admiral's log aboard USS Metolius

    Stardate: Unknown

    Location: Unknown

After recent maintenance overhaul at last port of call, ship has been experiencing multiple system failures resulting in an unexpected trans-temporal dimension flux rift. Wherever or whenever we are does not correlate with any starchart or variations astrometrics can produce as there are not stars in this Void. Communications have limited range and are currently unable to contact command.

The ship and crew appear to be intact, though I am concerned about possible withdrawal side effects the crew may suffer from, myself included.

Strange, we joined Star Fleet to explore, and here I am in unknown space wishing for the familiar stars of home.

Not to be hostile, but could people maybe NOT post off-topic chatter on the thread? It's already 100 pages long. The off-topic stuff just makes it hat much longer, fills space, and makes it harder to find the actual problem-related / technical posts.

This is the "Support" forum, not the "post recipes & roleplaying fanfic" forum. Just saying. I understand we're bored whiel waiting for a fix, but let's try to keep things on-topic. I'm not opposed to such things in general. Just, this ain't the place for them. We're trying to get info together to figure out this problem and/or figure out what devs need in order to fix the problem.

Just sayin'. Kinda' tired of reading long swaths of pages that don't contribute anything notable to pinning down the issue or finding a solution.

Sorry for the cold water. Just hoping folks can focus a little more on the technical issues and posting their specs and logs and such, and maybe leave the off-topic stuff for one of the more "general" fora?

    Make it so!

I read somewhere else in the STO forums that there was a problem with STO updating and locking its root folder, therefor TRIBBLE up any future updates; the new updates cannot make changes to the old files because they're all locked down. I have two different installs of STO, and both Cryptic Studios root folders are locked to "read only" on every user account.

I wonder if that may be the overall problem.

    For what its worth:

Does run on and was able to log in the game yesterday (haven't tried yet today)

    HP Probook 6540b
Intel i5 cpu 2.27 GHz dual core 64 bit
    2 gigs ram
video: intel HD Graphics 730.94 mb - driver version 8.15.10.2413

    Running Win 7 - 64 bit w/serivce pack 1 (build 7601)
    Directx 11

Does NOT run on and crash's with the rest of you on

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_qfe.130704-0421)
    Gigabyte System Model: P31-S3G
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU E8400 @ 3.00GHz
    Memory: 2046MB RAM
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
Video GeForce 9400 GT 512 meg

    and also crash's on

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3 (2600.xpsp_sp3_qfe.130704-0421)
    Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3700+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.2GHz (single core)
    Memory: 2048 ram
    DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)
    NVIDIA GeForce 7950 GX2

Plan on trying it on a different win 7 computer soon

    Okay, so it's not processor-specific? Since it crashes both on Athlon64 3200+, 3700+ 3800+ & on Intel Core2 E8400.

Looks like your DirectX 9.0c is the same version 4.09.0000.0904 as my friend's. Is that the most current version, or is there another build that's later? I find it difficult to find the latest DirectX build info in the web.

Looks like That's the last build of 9.0c:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX

Hmm, still wondering what differentiates crashing machines with XP from non-crashing machines with XP?

Are people crashing in the same place on machines other than XP? OR is it confined to XP users?

    Hello, I'm Troy McClure

You may remember me from such posts as "I can get in game but can't change sector" and "Only my DOFFs get to have any fun this season".
I'm here to let you know about the wonderful experiences YOU could have IF you could get into the game as I have.

CTD when attempting to fly to another sector.
WHITE EVERYWHERE! I got into an STF (without CTD) and it was WHITE EVERYWHERE! So white and painful I escaped and logged out before I went snow-blind.
Character select screen where your crew are surrounded by bright white clothes and backgrounds or look like this http://fc07.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2013/320/d/b/screenhunter_11_nov__15_12_59_by_drowrulesupreme-d6ug251.jpg. Land of the giant BOFFs and invisible captains.
CTD if I try to change graphics settings.
