[Season 8] Holodeck crashes on startup (Latest update: Pg. 319, post #3190)

    This game has gotten crash-happy after season 8. My Romulan is dead in the water. I can't play him more than 30 seconds before CTD. On one attempt, it crashed while loading. I switched to a Fed toon, and I got 10 minutes or so before CTD. I started a new fed toon, and got stuck in a mission bug before 10 minutes was up, so I don't know how that went. Every day, I get about five or six CTDs before I give up. Every day there has been a new patch, and every day I fire up STO, hopeful that the new patch has addressed the issue. So far, that has not happened. I'm giving up tonight. I hope for success tomorrow.

I know I can't speak for everyone but I'm sure that pretty much everyone on this thread would agree to help out if asked to do something to help the situation. If the guys need me to keep crashing every 2 minutes or learn how to make a .dmp file (I think the crash report handles that though) and read it, I'd be happy to volunteer. I'd even feed and water the Hamsters that run the servers, though I hear they've upgraded to Guinea Pigs xD

    System specs via Right-click My Computer --> Properties. Or other specs via dxdiag: Start menu --> Run --> Dxdiag.

    Processor? Memory size / type, if you know it? Video chipset? OS version? Home/Pro? 32-bit/64-bit? DirectX version? Are video drivers up-to-date?

    .log files? Info from around the time of the crash? In crash.log, shutdown.log, error.log, clientservercomm.log, debug.log, etc? Perhaps if a bunch of people are getting the same error codes, etc.?? Or if a bunch of people are on the same version of the same OS, or with the same processor or video chipset?

    Dunno. Perhaps we can find some common thread. (Or, maybe a programmer will find some buggy line(s) of code? ;] ).

    Anyway, it seems like "something" goes on right around the moment between the Legacy of Romulus screen and the Character selection screen, as that seems to be when ours consistently crashes.

    Will try "safe mode" after this accidental "force verify" finishes...

    Damn it takes forever. Would damn near be faster just to re-download the whole .HOGG file(s) from scratch. ;)

    No joy. Ticket #25316319 for @Everton2003 (friend I'm helping out). Safe mode did nothing. Still crashed to desktop with no error message. Just a box to inquire what happened. It crashed. Duh! ;)

    A post a while back in this thread, the new LCARS consoles in the game (we sadly cant see yet), and the various ticket numbers inspired me to a new signature. It wasnt easy to make it all still readable, but i think the sig get's my idea across. :)

    @Cryptic / Branflakes: Please keep the new Solanae Tribble in mind. It would be great if all players can get it (without a time-limit).

    Same here I haven't tried in a couple hours. I even tried Tribble last night and I couldn't even get on it

    Ticket filed.

    No, STO is the only game I even play on my computer, and I haven't been getting any sort of notifications about my video card. So, I would be inclined to believe that, like the problems everyone else is experiencing, it's on STO's end.

    Given the fact that this was previously ONLY an issue on Tribble (my friend was able to play on Holodeck FINE through the end of Season 7), but migrated to Holodeck when Season 8 rolled out, it FEELS like it's a problem on their end, not on ours?

    Things were clearly "working fine" on Holodeck (and malfunctioning on Tribble) prior to Season 8 going live, and only after Season 8 went live did the "Tribble problem" BECOME a "Holodeck problem" too... My friend wasn't amused. He was irritated enough that he couldn't get in to Tribble to help up beef up the Tribble-side fleet holdings, but he was pretty much fuming when the "problem" migrated to Holodeck and now BOTH SIDES are malfunctioning. At least, before, he could do STFs and daily dilithium grinding. Now he can't play AT ALL 'til this gets fixed. :(

    This Game has been my getaway from my guild in WoW. It has also given me the tought of peace as i flew around and just did whatever. No worries, and the feeling of being free to do whatever i wanted. It is tough to wait.. Even though I can't log on to STO, I still have the freedom to do what I want, and whenever I want to, but as unfourtunate as is seems. I want to log in and feel a peace again. I understand that the Dev's are doing all they can to fix the problem, but there are a lot of people out there that are passionate about this game. I am not near as passionate about it as most of the people that i've read in this forum, but I do know how they feel. To me its like getting a Christmas present on Christmas day but you cant open it untill New years day, while all of your friends are enjoying the same present that you will eventually receive. So you have to sit back and watch all of your friends have fun with a new toy, while you wait to open yours, and have fun along side them...what sux is by the time you open yours...Its old news.

    I totally agree. It must be, given the wide variety of specs and cards and whatnots that people have been posting. Still, there must be _something_ we crashers all have in common!

    The only part that really frustrates me is the fact that a lot of people are still able to play.

    First thing i do when i play STO again, purchase a Liberated Borg and rename him into
    (1 of 18897741).

    Remembered I had a laptop tucked away in the closet and thought hmm, wonder if that'll log in. Just an old HP laptop with win7 on it. Low and behold it logged in without a hitch. Have two other xp machines, which it crashs on load on both those. Gonna try the wifes computer which has win7 on it soon as I clear out some space and see if it works on there. Women, they collect everything she's down to 5 gig on her drive. sheesh

    I'm starting to think that these crashes are related to ARC. Before the patch, I was running STO fine without ARC but S8 seems to rely on ARC for some reason.
    possibilities are a thing of hope, sometimes it drives us toward something better

    Don't think so, I was crashing on this xp machine soon as season 8 came out and didn't have arc on this one initially. Do now after I formatted the whole drive and reinstalled windows for a trial.. Figured that'd be a garanteed clean wipe of the game.. Yeah no luck.

    Yeah, I conducted a hard reformat and restore back to factory settings, updated Windows 7 with all updates and I still get the same as well. Cryptic needs to roll back this patch.

    ahh ok, I was thinking maybe OS related issue, guess not.. Must just be a hit or miss thing.

    Same here, while I can get in via "safe mode", the lag is so horrendous that the game is unplayable. Hmm, I wonder if they'll even get this fixed before this year is over.
