3 HEC's in 1 pack is wacked - 5 sci consoles? for what - no Cmdr sci

4 eng consoles - for what - no Cmdr eng

The console layouts make 0 sense. They should be more in line with other 3 variant ships so:
    Falchion: 4 2 4
    Tulwar: 2 4 4
    Lifer since headstart!

It's not a Carrier. It is a Tactical Oriented Cruiser with a hangar.

call it what you like. it carries pets. these ships do make getting in a d'deridex now look like a fed getting in to a galaxy. pretty pointless.

7 turn rate and only 1 hangar bay? So you took the worst bits of heavy carriers (slow) and heavy escort carriers (only 1 bay) and rolled it into a Frankenstein ship(slow with 1 bay)...

I'm going to go and guess that's the tradeoff for having the 5/3 weapons layout and 5 tac consoles on the tac version. That, and being able to keep shields up while cloaked.

    I find the combination of these two statement strange (as posted in blog for Scimitar);

We know it is coming out in a matter of hours,

"All three Romulan Dreadnought Warbirds will be available ... starting tomorrow, Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013, around 10AM PDT."

But then you see this in the same post (for a C-store "purchased" item)

"NOTE: The above stats for all ships are subject to change."

What does this mean, in that, the customer buys an item because of the stats, but the stats might change after the item has been purchased. I would understand if the numbers are improved, but nerfing a purchased ship has, for the most part, been an irking thing to many STO players.

I guess this is the new clause for allowing the player to buy one thing, but end up with something else when an unknown committee decides that the original item is too nice and "must be messed with to maintain game balance."

Just a comment on the wording in the blog... I will also be one of those getting the Scimitar... and hoping it does not get nerfed. (But you sure could spice up the numbers for the FED cruiser....)

that is just an MMO thing...
the Devs preserve the right to nerf and buff anything as they see fit whenever they see fit.
happens everywhere, all the time, in any MMO.

you would hope that they have a good balance before they start selling it, but nobody is perfect and if feedback says X is OP or Y is weaksauce then they may just change that
for example: Andorian Ships actually got buffed a bit after release because it really was weak sauce. Or there may be a glitch in the numbers somwhere that a ship has more hull or shield than was intended, but that would be a "fix".

Anyway, if you buy in week one or two, you run the risk of getting the item nerfed. After 2 weeks it is usually safe to assume that numbers won't change anymore.

    Wow and all.

But after thinking about it...isn?t it "a bit" overpowered? Not in PvP, its too slow for that. but in STFs this should pack a serious punch. I mean its supposed to be, but i wonder how it will work out in game...

I know some people might not agree with me. But the scimitar is the one ship i never thought should be given to players in the game. According to cannon the scimitar was so vastly superior in firepower and abilities to anything else including the enterprise E that I couldn't see any way they could put it in this game and it be believable. A lot of people have commented on the only 40k hull and this might be cryptics only way of stopping it being too OP, but even then its still the most powerful ship in the game. If anything though, going by cannon it should be even more powerful.

So to sum up i think this is a big mistake, the stats are massively wrong as others have pointed out, it should be even more powerful with more hull and weapons, but its still going to be the most powerful ship in the game and that's worrying in a game where cryptic like things to be balanced. But if they do lower some of the stats this will only make a mockery of the cannon ship.

    Canon, not cannon.

One might also note that I have an orion starfleet captain in a jem'hadar carrier with romulan plasma(!) weapons.

Canon ceased applying a very long time ago.

Here's my 2 cents on changes I'd like to see for these ships.

First of all, I think the commander station should change depending on the ships focus. So for example the falchion would have a commander engineering, a Lt tactical, a science tactical + the universal stations.

Then I think that one of the ships should have 2 hangar bays but less weapons. Let's say the falchion got a 4/3 weapon layout and maybe 1 less turn (and maybe other penalties) in exchange for an extra hangar. This would make it more like a normal carrier so that the romulans would at least have one.

Also, maybe the tulwar could get sensor analysis and subsystem targeting in exchange for a fore weapon (or something). Combined with swapping the commander tactical station with the sci station this would give the romulans a C-store science vessel, something they currently lack.

This way the romulans would get a giant escort carrier with lots of pew pew (scimitar), a "normal" carrier similar to the JH dreadnought or the KDF burning doomship (falchion) and a science vessel/carrier, somewhat similar to the federation multi mission exploration ships (tulwar).

Personally I think would be much better than 3 extremely similar ships with slightly different console layouts and universal consoles. I know the odysseys, bortas and MMEs are also very similar to each other, but the federation and KDF have a lot more other ships to choose between, the romulans don't.

Edit: Stealing symetreus69s post (for the formating) and editing it.

    Scimitar Class
    Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens

    Falchion Class
    Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
    - 1 fore weapon. -1 or 2 turnrate. +1 hangar.

    Tulwar Class
    Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
Sensor Analysis and subsystem targeting. Some sort of penalty to compensate.

Pretty similar to what I said page 15 hi5 :). I think had the ships been open for public testing and comments we would have seen a better result than this mess we have for a 3-pack. Cryptic has become secretive and hush hush, a little transparency would be great like explaining some of the technical issues at LOR launch etc. But what we get is rare dev posts and tickets that take forever to get answered (2 weeks+ for me). The game is staggering along and not heading in a good direction IMO. Also, Cryptic will eventually release a Z-Store Sci Ship and full Carrier, if the Scim 3 pack had those as options Cryptic would've cheated themselves out of potential sales. Why get players to buy 3 ships (Scim pack) tomorrow when they can buy 5 (Scim pack, Sci ship, carrier) in a six month period. Sadly this may be closer to the real reason...

If you seriously think Star Trek Online is doing bad you may need to get your head check, but thats my opinion.
Okay I think the Federation Dreadnought needs some love so it can compete with the Romulan Dreadnought. I mean seriously compared to the romulan one the Federation one is just a Cruiser with Cannons and a cloak. it has less firepower, less console slots and a regular cloak that takes up a console slot. It hardly seems fair.
Adding onto my post earlier unless the Scimitar is nerfed I think a Fleet Variant would be horrible making an Overpowered ship God like. Honestly It seems like every new C-Store ship becomes more overpowered then the last. Also if this ship gets a Fleet Variant before ships that need it like the Fed Dreadnought, I will have to pay branflakes a "visit" .

Oh yes! They shouldn't just release the devblog one day before the ships. Now there was no time to provide feedback unless they realize wtf they're doing and delay the release by a week or two.

And personally I think they could have made just as much money giving us 3 very different ships since then more people would (probably) buy the pack. When I saw the stats all I could think was "Eh?" and then "Do any of the devs even play this game?". I was looking forward to a carrier, especially after seeing the drone ship stats on tribble (3 beam arrays!!!) but now I've mostly lost interest.

I also remember someone here on the forums citing that according to the guy who designed the scimitar for ST:Nemesis, it had 5000 scorpion fighters. Five thousand! How we then ended up with 1 hangar is beyond me.

Wow this is one mean son of a ***** ship and the perfect ships to complement my TaL Shiar spy romulan. When my laptop is repaired I'm just going to have to get my rommie to lvl 50 ASAP to get this. The consoles may be viewed as OP as we can fire while cloaked and cloaked with Shield so can be guaranteed the feds will cry Overpowered in PVP.

Love the ideas of the drone ship but would prefer this to be a romulan playable ship rather than a fighter pet.

Also any chance of getting these consoles in a future lockbox as these consoles especially the shjeilds while cloaked would be excellent on my B'rel retrofit for my KDF character

Ok So here is my ideal configurations for the 3 ships:

    Scimitar Class
    Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens

    Falchion Class
    Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
    42,000 Hull (5% Increase)

    Tulwar Class
    Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
    Sensor Analysis
(Or a 1.2 shield modifier or 2 hanger bays)

I think if we had seen something like these it would have pleased those of use who are sick of Star Tac Online and given Romulan players better ship variety as they are already saturated with Tac ships. Also anyone else find it downright strange that the Tulwar gets 5 Science consoles for a Tac ship!?

YOU GET A LTCMDR UNIVERSAL! I could do an awesome sci damage build with that utilizing attack patterns!!

Remember that Singularity Cores are still much weaker than Warp Cores of the same quality and mark. Not only do they have diminished base power levels, they have inferior modifiers as well.

As far as power levels, look at the presets...
Warp Core: main 100, secondary 50, the others 25 and 25
Singularity Core: main 100, secondary 30, the others 15 and 15
...meaning that everything but your main allocated system (read "weapons" in most cases) will suffer from a -40% base power level penalty... or looking at it the other way around, Feds/KDF get a +66.67% base power level bonus for any system other than the main allocated system relative to a Warbird. Put another way, a Warbird captain in the weapon preset would need a 99 in Starship Engine, Shield and Auxiliary Performance to equal a Fed/KDF captain in the same preset with 0 in Starship Engine, Shield and Auxiliary Performance...

Next, as far as the modifiers for the core types, Singularity Cores are also less effective. For example, the capacitor abilities of a Singularity Core will drain Singularity Charge in order to boost and restore your affected system... which in turn reduces the passive bonus you get from Singularity Charge as well as diminishing your use of Singularity Powers; the Warp Core capacitor abilities have no impact upon any other bonuses or abilities when used. Likewise, whereas a Singularity Core will enhance one specific Singularity Power (and only if you use that power once you finally charge up), a Warp Core will constantly enhance the power levels of one system based on the power level in the primary one; this means that any ability that is based on the second power level gets a boost, all the time you have power in the main system, not just upon use of the single ability.

Honestly, if I could rip the Singularity Core out of my Warbird, I would install a Warp Core in a heartbeat; the Singularity Powers are interesting, but not really comparable to the alternative... more like a penalty imposed to balance out the Battle Cloak, but with a bow to make it look pretty.

Of course, as far as the Scimitar goes... the base stats outclass most anything the other factions have access to, but it still has the Singularity Core mechanic with its associated limitations. I have no doubt that it is OP, but remember that the bonus damage from decloaking won't be applied if you fire when remaining cloaked... and doing so will also give your opponent a nice glowey vector to trace for use of Charged Particle Burst, Antiproton Sweep, etc. It will make RSP more of a must-have, though.

A varied Commander slot would have been nice, too...

had to make it to page 10 to read the first sensible comment :-)

5 forward slots? DHC? Try equipping a neghvar with DHC's, and get them to point yr target...

Just typical. Cryptics got their new micro faction and they give them an biggest OP ships ever just because they couldn't careless about the other full factions. They are trying to force players to join the new micro faction and spend even more money. It will kill the present and any new PvP , PvE will mean that they can rip through the enemy with ease. Just have the guts Cryptic and tell us the other factions are dead and you are calling the game Romulan Online. Cryptic I hate you more than I ever hated EA, worst game company ever. Of course there going to promote the romulan faction at the moment as one they need more ships to even match the fed ships but also it's the new expansion they want to retain the players they got with the release of the expansion. I for one may or may not buy the ship as I want a Tier 5 T'var ship first but the scimitar pack may be my next purchase.

However take a look back to before LOR the feds were getting ship after ship after ship and they were all OP while the KDF had nothing after the Bortasqu. Give cryptic time I'm sure they will have more ships for feds and hopefully the KDF in time. but at the moment the romulan faction is the flavour of the month so will be getting the shinies first which is good business sense.

And no I don't work for Cryptic I'm one of the ones the criticise them a lot but I do see this as good work from them until I see the list of things wrong with this ship

Damn you Cryptic! My Zen stash never had a chance against this ship! ;)

Fortunately, for me, Picard is "controlling" my zen stash in this instance...

And therefore it will defeat this wave motion cannon toting carrier-scort... (granted, the WMG is thalaron based instead of tachyon based, but it winds up being the same dang thing)...

Yes, I am not liking the 3 ships exact same BOff layout thing...

On that note, now that the RR has a 5 fore gun / 5 tac console ship, my question (especially in light of the "planned KDF ship drought"...)

What will we see first? Rommie sci-ship done up as Vesta pack, or 5 fore 5 tac KDF?

And, if I may borrow the phrasing, I'll consider it a virtual "slap in the face" if the KDF gets the 5/3 on a "science ship"...
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

To rob a line: [quote: Mariemaia Kushrenada] Forum Posting is much like an endless waltz. The three beats of war, peace and revolution continue on forever. However, opinions will change upon the reading of my post.[/quote]

I've updated the blog with 2 more images under the "Romulan Drone Ships (Hangar Pets)" section: http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=930741

These depict a drone ship utilizing its Multi-Spectral Emitters to take the form of a Tholian fighter, a ship that would normally be allied with the vessel the drone is targeting.
