T5 Constellation Class.

lexusk19lexusk19 Member Posts: 1,415 Arc User
Ok so heres my request slash argument for the Constellation class to be T5.

In the Next Generation episode Peak Performance Commander Riker takes command of a Constellation class star ship to participate in simulated combat with the Enterprise. His ship was beat up, torn apart, run down, warp inert, and overall in bad condition. In a few hours he had it going and engaged the Enterprise.

In the next few scenes he managed to inflict heavy damage to the Enterprise by using a ruse for cover. The point here is that with new weapons and new equipment the Constellation class took on a Galaxy class and would have probably won the fight.

So lets bring this ship into the game. ^^ I wont try to think up stats for it but maby give it a sensor ghost console? Or the ability to perform the Picard maneuver? It would be pretty sick to appear off your targets bow and get a shiled penetration buff on weapons for a few seconds form it. hehe Well there it is, lets hear constructive feedback. :)

Well, of course, the 25th Century version of the Constellation is already in the game at T3 - with a Fleet version at T5.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    UMMM....wha...?

There's a 25th century verson of the Cheyenne in this game...and the Cheyenne is as closely related to the Constellation as the Galaxy is to the Constitution...meaing they have the number of nacelles.

Wouldn't it be almost the size of a defiant class?

No it's not the constellation, it's a modified version of it. It doesn't look as old as the real constellation. It has 4 nacelles, a constitution saucer, and it's damn ugly, which is why it's not in game. That's my guess. The bridge looks good though.

    At a bit over 300 meters...I don't think so.
    Why do you ask?

While no solid dimensions for the Constellation are ever given on-screen, I believe she's described as having fifteen decks and a crew of over 500 by one of the designers.

Compare that to the 150 meter long Defiant with a crew of 50...and you get the picture.

Note: I am in no way arguing that there is a set ship length to crew complement ratio for Starfleet ships. Just pointing out the known facts and what they imply about relative size.

Its ugly in the Millennium Falcon sense; Its got greebles, out of the place parts, and looks like it was constantly repaired with substandard service. Your perception of the DSSV, D'Kyr, and Odyssey is of style, not of presentation.

lizwei's got a point. These forums absolutely loathed the odyssey's design. They hated on it so much the designer didn't even want to play the game when the contest winning ship was finally released. People couldn't stop hating on the dual necks, and the winning drawing and all that. The ship has been called ugly in so many posts on these forums it's almost a meme. Yet there it is, in the game, warts and all.

Maybe because the odyssey isn't ugly?

Few people fly really ugly ships: the science space ball (the fleet version), the deep space science vessel, the fleet Cheyenne, and so on.

According to the majority of posters on the STO Forums it's ugly, a terrible design and shouldn't have won the contest. The hate was so high that the contest winner wanted nothing to do with the game or the community because of the hatred.

Who says it isn't ugly? Not anyone on these forums.

wrong; i'm on these forums, and i don't think it's ugly at all...unlike the chimera, with its fat zit of a deflector

These forums have such a terrible sense of their own history. The designer was vilified. It was pretty sad and disheartening.

Most of the people on the Forums know the game really well. Their "QQ" is a big reason why we have the rep system instead of staying with the .5% drop rate of STF Mk 12 set items (just as one example that I can remember off the top of my head).

Just goes to show how much of a minority (though very vovcal) many of the opinions expressed on these forums are - as I believe the Odyssey 2 Pack was one of the best selling ship items on the C-Store.

The Chimera's deflector does hang down too low, making the ship's profile view quite ugly.

The Odyssey's dual necks make the ship look fat, making the ship's straight on view quite ugly.

The Constellation class is ugly, but it's a canon ship that has been seen prominently. Therefore it should be in game. The only other canon Federation ship that should be added is the New Orleans class, which was seen in the opening sequence of almost every DS9 episode; which really isn't all that ugly.

Accordign to Geko the New Orleans class is on its way. Now remember it took well over a year for the Andorian ship to make it in game. But it did get there eventually.

Reminds me of the Ruse Khan used to allow a Miranda to virtually destroy your beloved Connie, and in a few hours Kirk and his miracle working Engineer and Science officer got the engines restarted.

    1) Kirk never raised it's (the 1701's) shields.

    2) If you're saying the Connie should be dead/reduced in Tier due to being owned by a Miranda in the above situation; for all you TNG Galaxy fans, I present:

Talk about taking things out of context; The Dominion weapons were never encountered before, and the settings the Federation puts its shields on were ineffective versus the Dominion. The Federation later adapted.

And cue the montage of Mirandas getting their asses kicked during the Dominion War in 3...2...1...

Secondly, the Hathaway didn't have modern armament. It was playing out a wargame scenario with the digital equivalent of modern armament. It landed a few hits on the aft dorsal section of the Enterprise D's engineering hull, which as part of the wargame were powered down as if they had taken battle damage.

Once the Ferengi showed up the Hathaway was useless (until it was "destroyed" as part of a ruse to fake the Ferengi into withdrawing).

I actually like the Odyssey design. I have not really liked many TNG and later era designs. The Galaxy seems to aim to be two round for the sake of futurism, and the Enterprise E and similar ships seem like a sudden jump in design aesthetics. They suddenly are super angular. I usually prefer my saucers to be saucers as well, with a few exceptions.

My main beef with the Odyssey is it seems like the Enterprise E and the Intrepid mashed together. I actually like the split pylon though.

Personally; I would have liked to have seen another Dreadnought style design. The Galaxy based one is from an alternate reality, but is homage to the TOS era Franz Joseph Dreadnought design. It was nice to see an official onscreen reference to it, but I would prefer a Prime Universe equivalent. Something like the Enterprise E with an additional nacelle would have been awesome.

Likewise references to other popular non-canon designs would have been nice as well.

The Chandley in FASA games was essentially a star cruiser, and making a modern era reference to it would have worked out fine without stepping on any copyrights I do not think. If I were playing at the time of this contest, I would have likely designed that.

    https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSnwxtmzeRKvJ-i4bxEfpxIKZGluzpDHosW9Bv5OFm62Z58gvMr

The Chandley was classed as a frigate, but in terms of stats and abilities in the game was essentially a battlecruiser/starcruiser.

This design would also make a good carrier, since it was used in the game as a troop carrier.

It was designed to look old, outdated and underpowered. That's what the TNG episode required. But the needs here are completely different. While I wouldn't mind seeing it in game, because I like the idea of ugly ships (I love the Jupiter class fat whale), it may not sell well and the devs know it, unfortunately. :P
