To all the people snubbing their noses at the Doff packs, the Jem Bug and lock boxes in general. Here is my opinion, yes they are scams for the most part but I don't think the odds are all that hidden anymore. Unless you have been living under a rock on Rigel III, there have been plenty of threads, zone chat and other banter discussing the the rarity of the grand prizes.

I see these promotions as scam like because you very rarely ever get value for your money. I also see that these promotions keep the game running. I used to pay $15 a month to play and more then likely would do so again if I had to. There are a lot of ways to waste money in this life. Things that provide little to no value, spending some RL cash on STO is no different. As long as people are aware of what they actually are paying for and keep themselves to a limit and not get carried away, then I don't see a problem with it. If you think you are smarter or superior because you don't waste money on these scams then you are obtuse.

I personally keep myself to a monthly limit roughly what the monthly subscription is, split my in game dilithium with myself and my fleet and enjoy opening boxes and supporting the game.

I have opened over 200 boxes in the last year with only obtaining the Dkora and the JHAS. I Parlayed the D'kora into the JHAS. I open the boxes and packs with full knowledge of what the odds are.

Personally I enjoy collecting Lobi, for which I am working on my second full stack at the moment.

exactly! If someone is going to spend $250 dollars on an virtual items(s) like this they better read the fine print and investigate. Heck most people these days take a lot of time out reading reviews and what not before spending $50 buying a whole game!!

odds are approx 1/100 or 1%

Packs sell for $4.5 million - Ships sell now for $290/4.5 = 65 packs

So if you buy 65 packs and sell them on the exchange you are Guaranteed to get a ship!

That increases your odds to 100%

See most are hoping/gambling that they will get the ship with only having to get less than 20-30 packs - just very unrealistic.

Opened... maybe 10 or so for giggles, got nothing. Bought 20 with dil-bought zen, sold them, bought 30 keys with the funds, and ended up 78 lobi richer than I would have with packs. Far more worth it. If you're in it for the lobi, sell them on the exchange! The prices are probably still roughly 3 keys-1 doff pack. Maybe. Have to log on today yet.

It's been said but the trick to these is to know you are 99% guaranteed to get worthless junk with your lobi. You're not buying doffs, or ships, or whatever; you're buying *lobi* and, with these packs, a set of common doffs for your starbase, and uncommon ones to split into commons. Concentrate on that and that alone, work out what funds you need to get what you want with that, and remember that it's all you're going to get. Period. Pretend the lottery doesn't exist because you're not gonna see it anyway.

I heard that if you have better fleet ranking...guess belonging to a fleet...makes your chances better of getting the ship. Does anyone else see that?

no...it's random plain and simple just like the rumors during the old STF where you had to do this to get a tech drop, no all random all chance.

I guess some people are luckier then others. The drop rate just doesn't seem to be random to me. Its now day three and I still see a announcement every 3-5 minutes though.

all the Duty officers I got wasnt worth TRIBBLE really. Lots of greens/whites with a few blues and 1 purp.

I did end up getting a few artifacts though, which is good cause I've made 3 purple consoles thus far with em.

I would like everyone to share their results of opening the Fleet Support Packs. How many did you open and when and if did you win the Jem'Hadar Attack Ship?

I am very curious to whether the drop rate has been increased or there is a insane number of people opening these things.

I opened 20 Boxes, Got mine on the 5th one. Decided to open the last 15 just to see the results, only misc stuff.

    Thanks everyone

I've always been anti-lockbox and my results actually confirm why. I spent the time to spend zen and ec's getting keys and I used 58 keys to try and get a Jem'Hadar ship (these are truly the only ships I want). Out of the 58 keys used, I can successfully say that I have 0 ships from the Jem'Hadar lock boxes. Zero, null, zip.

I tried the "trick" of opening them when other were, random times, specific times, just after server reset, etc. I now know and have confirmed why I just refuse to open any more lockboxes. The ship should be 1 in 20 boxes to be "on par" price-wise with zen-based ships. 58 boxes for mostly just lobi crystals and dilithium refining claims, 10 of the phased polaron weapons, and a ton of doff packs (of which only 3 were the very rares).

These are fleet support duty pack that are all the rage about these days, not a lock box. You don't need a key to open one of these. These cost 233 zen (current discounted price) or ~4.3mil EC on exchange to buy one. If you are opening lockboxes in hopes of finding a JHAS, you are doing it wrong.

Seriously, listen to this guy. Buy zen with dil/cash, sure, but NEVER spend them on lockbox keys unless you're looking for mining claims. Instead, buy keys to sell on the Exchange, or fleet support doff packs now that they're discounted and going for $$$. THEN go back on the Exchange and buy your flying manhood enhancers (mine's a JHEC, 'cos it looks cool).

Seriously, I'd have thought you lot would have had the sense to quit after 10 unsuccessful boxes at most.

the longer the time passes, the closer we get to a realistic number.

of course there are a few that are rich and bought some, keeping in mind the big update might TRIBBLE all bugship owners.

and of course there are those that saved up money for this opportunity to buy one.

with time passing we get closer to the chance of obtaining a bugship.

for now we can assume that with the ec price being around 280 mil ec and fleet support duty officer pack of being 4,5mil.

the average chance of getting a jhas is in every 62ish~ pack.

233 zen cost each pack now, puts the jhas value to 14500~ zen.

my estimate. 1/50 chance of obtaining the jhas

cryptics estimated "normalized" value and chance compared to winter package, if i had to make an educated guess would be 15000 zen.

6 times more expensive then a zen store va ship.

Each Jem promotion so far I've opened on average 75 bucks worth of stuff

I didn't get anything until this time, where I got the ship on my first pack, and then another on the 5th one.

Unlike lockboxes, duty officer packs always have useful items. The JHAS/Fleet Modules/Lobi are nice incentives, but the duty officers within are quite nice. The Very Rare Biochemists in the duty officer packs sell for 20 million EC and the Damage Control Engineers sell for 25 million the last time I checked. Those prices have dropped a bit due to the pack promo, but prices will rise after the promo ends. Duty officer packs are most certainly not a scam. The packs clearly advertise that the chance to get the modules/JHAS is a small chance (exact wording is "rare chance at a JHAS").

You have a point for lockboxes (not really anymore, since lockboxes in general now contain useful items--a far cry from their initial incarnation) but if Doff Pack ships are "scams" then what is buying doff packs when there ARE no ship promotions to you?

The ship bonuses are just cool things on top of the stuff you're already buying, it's not a scam in the slightest.

The other way they can TRIBBLE the JHAS owners is to either put it in a lockbox and that would destroy the in game value of it or they can come out without a ship that matches or beats the JHAS in specs which would make the ship lose some of its appeal.

Cryptic increased the value by making the JHAS a requirement for the JHAS hanger pets for the Dreadnought. I believe this was intentional.

unfortunately the dreadnought is not totally appealing, yet.
sure its good and some may claim its awesome, yet the elite scorpion pets do the job too as for now.

    anyway my newest prediction is,
that in 4 days, a feature episode will start.
each week or two there will be a new episode, leading to the final big update in may.
introducing a new mechanic into sto.

Its my understanding that the JHAS Hanger Pets may look good but they don't fight very well, is this true?

I am still curious to how people fared in their pursuit of the JHAS.

opened two boxes, obviously got nothing. 2 blue doffs....

Wish I didn't, if I wanted to Gamble I'd be at the casino. I really don't think this sort of system belongs in a MMO game at all least of all a Star Trek Theme game.

I opened 12, got 4x fleet modules from one and the rest was junk. Good thing I just had extra CP from the dilithium exchange so I don't really care too much.

I've bought two, one each on separate characters. The reason I bought them was to get the DOffs, anything else is gravy. As for what I got extra, one of the two included a one-time-use Fleet consumable that creates a gravity well or something, and both contained 10 Lobi crystals and I think a few rare commodities.
