most of the kit powers work the same for both Feds and KDF so I doubt that would change. But mortars? Hehe... remember the acid bomb used by the sandworm in Coliseum? Hehehe.... that could work nicely. Regular turrets? yeah some sort of bio-tech AP. Drones, definately need Drones. Fed drones are rather distinctive with their cone-like shape, KDF drones are spinning razor disks. Undine drones..... make them look like the Macrovirus heh...

Lol yeah.. that would be epic :P the undine genetically engineered the macrovirus to "serve" them :P ... again with mines... some kind of stationary blob of goo... step on it... and you melt ? :O

Yeah, forgot about mines.... maybe have Undine mines do an acid splatter when triggered?

aslong as their as deadly as the fed/kdf mines.. works for me :P

Psi Generator (another random blob that heals your health)

Shield Generator... (this one can be technology based :P)

now... hard part... how can we get the Undine to trump the Romulans etc ?

The Dominion does not care, it exists only for the Founders that dont exactly care about much being on the Great Link and all.

So why would they exactly care? The events were "oh so that is where they end up" as the Dominion only used that as a means to get the Female Changeling back that is very much within the typical Dominion attitude "only the Founders matter" and its pretty hard to get what basically is a mass of beings connected to each other as a pond to actually do anything, a lot of their actions in the Dominion War simply were their belief that solids were out to get them, in fact the whole point of the Female Changeling turning Cardassia into a wasteland was to scare the Alpha Quadrant Alliance to not to enter the Gamma Quadrant.

The only thing you have is the Iconians but still considering the Bajor Treaty I dont think we see the Bajor wormhole having much traffic to warrant the Alpha Quadrant races to go about on the Dominion front yard (especially considering the Dominion War) and I really dont exactly see the Changelings losing so much faith on the Vorta and Jem'Hadar they would be asking help from the Federation or Klingon Empire.

Occasional assistance is one thing, that happened even during the Dominion War (with a damn good reason) and during the game (The 2800 Return) but I really cannot see the Dominion suddenly becoming a player, if they do is because of the Iconian threat and for that we also have the Romulan Star Empire that have PLENTY more reasons to enter a alliance with the Federation and the Klingon Empire.
ASKING for help? No not really. :p Allies? nope.

But as co-belligerants against another faction? That could easily work. Especially if you add in some plot element about either the Undine or Iconians messing with them.

One thing to remember about the 2800 series is that Loriss and the female changeling returned to the Dominion with HUGE amounts of information about the Alpha and Beta quadrants! Loriss apparently spent much of her time on DS9 reading the station logs.

@Thay8472: they need a special ship console to replicate the giant beam-o-death! :D (of course Romulans need the giant ball of plasma seen in TOS too, but I digress)

I suspect many of us will suffer.

There is so much awesome here.

With regards to a 3rd faction, maybe it's be best served as a "rogue" group to include Romulans, Cardis, Jem'Hadar, Ferengi, etc., in order to cover the bases of playable alien races who will probably never see the light of day. The story would just have to be generalized, that way it's not like there is a real alliance between the official ruling parties of those races/groups, and they still remain separate from either the Feds or KDF.

Rouge players get their faction-based ships and the actual race (not "alien") plus it's a pathway for any potential 4th or 5th group in the future.

"Starter" points - have rouge bases along the borders of the Fed/KDF territories, and maybe make a new block under the Warzone block. Then give players some new 3-way Warzones, or faction "support" option in existing Warzones.

Cryptic can then offer "rogue" humans, Klingons, Naussicans, etc., as "purchasable" races to add to the existing roster.

I like your suggestion. I would support three full factions. We'd need to reach two full factions first.

I'd also like a starship that looks like a giant space pony, and the option to have a centauroid alien race as my captain, while we're wishing for impossible things.

As long as its called Captain cadence, I will be fine.

The Romulans already have allies, the Breen and the Hirogen. The Cardassians are too weak to break away from the federations yoke. They are a bit like post war Germany.

I thought the Breen were the ENEMY of the Romulans?

anyways, Romulan, Dominion, Mercenary, Undine, Borg would work as additional factions.

The Hirogen, maybe. The Breen? I wouldn't think so. Everything we know about the history between the Romulans and Breen seems to indicate that the two species don't like, nor trust each other very much.
Romulan and Cardassian....dont take my word for it but instead of laying a bunch of points just do a search and you will find the answer from DSthal himself:D
DSthal talks in riddles or is cryptic (pun intended) about answers given. Neither the Romulans, Cardassians or anyone else has actually been confirmed by DSthal or anyone else.
I thought the Breen were the ENEMY of the Romulans?
    My thoughts too.
anyways, Romulan, Dominion, Mercenary, Undine, Borg would work as additional factions.
Romulan and / or Dominion are my hopes. I dislike the other options.

It's simple really. I think that this game should have three unique factions that have a history with each other.

A mercenary faction (be that the Ferengi or otherwise) would (I feel) just be there for the sake of it. Ideally we'd have three factions that play slightly differently anyway, but alas we don't. The Klingon faction (what we have of it) plays the same to the Federation.

    I'd rather have another faction-faction than a mismatch-faction.

Well thank you for that wonderful contribution. Oddly enough, we do have a 2nd faction, it's called the Klingon Defense Force and it is a playable faction, though it just lacks somewhat. It does exist though, maybe you should try it out some time?

While the similarities between the situations of Romulans and Cardassians mean they can benefit from having a shared 'style' of faction, condensing them into one, unified faction would be too preposterous to work without some sort of galaxy-shattering paradigm shift. It would also deprive them of much of their own cultural uniqueness.

Talk about a silly thread. Firstly, there is no point even thinking about a third faction until the KDF is done. And yes, OP, I saw you ask us not to mention them. Secondly, there is no question that the third faction will be Romulans. This game is a business and a business is about making money, and there is no question the majority of people want Romulans as the next faction. Obvious facts are obvious.

I don't know...both Romulan and Cardassian space are no where near each other, which would make trade between the two Empires difficult and they would lose ships to Federation patrols making it economically unsound and a waste of resources replacing the vessels they lose. Bring the Cardassians, Breen and Alpha Jem'hadar, Vorta back together. The Cardassians won't trust the Dominion but the Alpha Jem'hadar are basically outcasts so the Obsidian Order would use that as a stepping stone to rebuilding their forces or at least bolstering their troops, we also know that the Obsidian Order has managed to build a large fleet in secret, not once but on several occasions (Starting from TNG and recurring a few more times on DS9). Although the Romulans may seem like the next choice for a third playable faction, they're really just starting to get back on their feet and with New Romulus a more-or-less a recent addition it would be too soon. Cardassians as the third faction to further distract the other empires then the Romulans as the forth having built a significant force while Klingons, Federation and Cardassians fought each other and the Borg.

I still think if they make a "typhon pact" from various species as the third faction they could advance the story from various point of views and make people happy who want to play as Romulans or Breen etc.

    I.E.

    Romulans (Tal Shair influeneced)
Cardassian True Way (Terran Empire / Dominion proxy)
Breen Confederacy (just hate starfleet / klingon empire already)
Tholian Assembly (just pretty much hate everyone)

    plot wise...

We can put Empress Sela as the leader of this faction... then have a Breen Thot and a big Tholian as her "Advisors" ... then we'll throw in a spoon head to make it appear we care about them too... then instead of fighting X species for a mission saga each saga could have the point of view of each pact member...

    I.e..

Tholians could be based on capturing vessels from alternate realities.. then hiding them somewhere and.. well... tearing out anything of any use.

Breen, can help out the universe by lowering the deferi population...

    Species wise:

    Romulan
    Reman
    Cardasian
    Alpha Jem'hadar
    Breen
    Tholian
    "Alien"

    Ship wise...

    Carriers/Dreadnoughts
    Tholian Recluse Carrier
    Scimitar
    Tarantula
    Breen Capital Ship

    Escorts.

    Mogai
    Jem'hadar Bug
    Jem'hadar Escort
    Chel Grett Cruiser

    Science
    Orb Weaver
    Jem'hadar Battleship
    Keldon
    Sarr Theln Warship

    Cruisers
    Jem'hadar Cruiser
    Galor
    D'deridex

    Frigates:
    Mesh Weaver
    Rom BoP
    Hideki

    Shuttles/Fighters
    Tholian Widow
    Romulan Scorpion
    Breen Fighter
    Dominion Fighter

then later on you can flog us the Hirogen and a species that can match the ferasens jumping abilites. :P

There is no Obsidian Order, however, the True Way has taken its place. So the only real similarity between Cardassia and Romulus is that they are both in the midst of a civil war. Yet, the Cardassian government has been stable since the end of the Dominion War due to the UFP and the Romulans are still rebuilding, so the similarity ends.

The Romulans already have three factions vying for control of the old RSE region, the new RSE based out of Mol'Rihan, the old RSE based out of Rator III, and the Remans who are currently allied with the new RSE, who are based out of the Vault Station.

The new player can start off in either of those three places as new starting zones, however, the Devs will need to modify their questing experience from 30 to 45 min missions to more mini-missions in a quest chain to end it with a cryptic-style mission for the leveling experience or make a neutral colony world as the starter zone and move on to the three different factions.

I still think the best way to do RSE is to have the player do missions for differing subfactions.
