yeah , im not even at 1k myself , just hit 700 and i firmly believe that all these rewards should remain as such , otherwise , whats the point of subscribing ?
if you follow that line, then the defiant broke canon when it came out, having no nacelles or saucer section. Even the galaxy class design was pretty far removed from TOS when it came out.
The fact is ship designs will change as technology evolves..so each generation of ship will look different, not to mention the fact this is set years ahead of the tv series.
That would be ... years Beyond the TV series...
I luv this Vektor design...
I won't be getting it till around the 11th of December, but what a lovely early Xmas present it'll be.

I try never to look a gift-horse in the mouth, and nor am I unappreciative the work and efforts of those who can do such modelling; however... I have to admit to being quite despondent at the KDF 1000-day reward.
While I acknowledge that the general Klingon design mythos is to be a little more 'industrial' than StarFleet (piping, wires, and actual god-honest guns instead of the sleek arrays of StarFleet) I find myself unmoved at the look of this vessel; I was hoping for something more advanced-looking (like the progress shown in the Vor'Kang or Birok), to show that the Klingons have learnt from their once-allies/now-foes, reflecting the enormous passage of RL subscriber time that has passed to achieve its availability.
I guess I have to look at it as a Hind-D vs a Longbow, and await more details/images. But I am a little down about it.
Hm, the Magellanic is a ship that could grow on me (like Species 8472 stuff ). I hope that we'll get the stats T.O. Morrow. They will probably decide if it can put my Excelsior into spacedock.
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.
Sometimes, if you want to bury the hatchet with a Klingon, it has to be in his skull. - Captain K'Tar of the USS Danu about J'mpok.

Chimera, CHIMERA class. Not Magellanic. They've made that clear.
And given that it has at least three 'modes', including a high-speed sector space one, it should beat out the Excelsi in a couple of ways.
Do we really know it's high-speed? The Intrepid has a "Sector Space mode" where the nacelles swing up and it's... absolutely average there.
The Intrepid is that way because that is they way it was in the show, nothing more. If I were to venture a guess, the different modes are probably dependent on the role you wish to play it: Tac, Eng, or Sci.

There is said to be a Sector Space mode (though I believe that was mentioned for the KDF ship, it's likely the case for both), which wouldn't follow the careers... since it's a Sector Space Mode, and that's a non-combat area.
While I don't doubt that there will be some benefit to it in Sector Space over standard ships... they could just be aiming for a cool animation in that particular case like the Intrepid or BoP have. Cryptic have done stranger things. Thus I ask if we actually know it's high-speed, and not just aesthetic.

Where did they say these things? I haven't seen any naming of this class (other than what's printed on the original artwork) or its features in any Twitter feeds or forum posts or podcasts. Can you point me in the right direction?

Still trying to figure out how this thing is actually going to be statted. I mean, given it's sheer rarity, it automatically gets promoted into the 'Hero Ship' slot.
10 consoles is a given, likely with 3/3/4.
Cmdr Tac/Universal, the rest... hmmm, up for debate.
One pertinent question is if the 'modes' will effect ship handling or not, and more importantly, how maneuverable and cannon-worthy is she to start with?
Also, I really don't see the problem people have with the klink ship. I mean, look at it. It has clear and present suggestions that all of the klingon faction races have banded together to make that thing. Hints from the orion flight deck cruisers, some from the gorn, some slight signs from the nausicans, all wrapped up into the base iconic klingon frame. It could use tweaking, yes, but it's well... the biggest problem I can find with it is that it's 'adorable'. Then again, so's a cat. And they're viscous little furry *******s.

I'm banking on it having 9, then "down the road" they'll release a CStore variant and a Fleet Version, and the Fleet Version will have 10... and the Veteran Version won't count toward the Fleet Version.
Obviously I'm not expecting any of it's stats to be on a par with the Fleet Vessels. Cryptic is trying to make a living selling ships now, and I honestly don't believe they count subscription fees (be it monthly or LTS) as a substitute. If they did Vet Tokens would probably count toward the Fleet Galaxys, Intrepids and Defiants.
I think these ships will probably be "interesting" but I seriously doubt they'll be competitive with Fleet ships.

Why? To get the ship, you have to pay something around 300-600 dollars. It has to be at least lockbox grade, and that's before the 'modes' are taken into account.
Half the point of this ship is to be the 'shining light at the end of the road' for subscribers, something to KEEP them subscribed. So, it has to at least match the top ship in the game, or slightly exceed it. It's going to be rarer than Bugs, and it is only fitting that it be slightly more powerful, if not very more powerful (which would be a nice incentive).
That way they can release a crappier Cryptic take on the design that's T5 in stats (instead of T6 or something) that'll make people go for that as an interm item.

You assume that Cryptic believes that money "counts".
A 600 Day Veteran token requires a $300 LTS, or 20 monrths of reoccurring subscription time... so at the standard monthly rate that's still $300. For that you unlock limited access to three $20 ships... and none of that counts toward their Fleet versions.
Cryptic seems to see subscription fees as money tossed down the drain, and vet rewards (which they're ending with this next one) as simply "bonus material"... not actually stuff you pay for.
Hell, look at the Yacht. It's positively mediocre for a shuttle, and was soundly outclassed by the Delta before the thing was even released.

I bet this would be the case as well. They won't give away a ship that's more powerful than one they can sell to everyone else, 1000 day vets included. There are a lot more people that will be hitting the 1000 day mark than you might think. So I doubt they will want to give away, basically for free, a really powerful ship that they can charge you for in the CStore etc.
But, we'll see, maybe I'll eat my words. But this is the "New Cryptic" we're talking about.
What a good way though to get people coughing up for subs/LTS than a with powerful ship. If it's up there with fleet ships then it might do just that.
Looking forward to the details on these forthcoming ships. I'm still 30 days from reaching 1000.
Enough time to drool over other peoples ones, cry that I don't have it yet, dream about how I'll set it up, then jump for joy when I get it
I've been playing this game for a year, subbed since day 1. Just a gold, not a lifer. I really do hope that in another year and a half (presuming I'm still playing, and presuming this game is still around), I can only hope this ship is worth being that 'light at the end of the tunnel'.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

Chances are that they will have better ships in a year and a half. Of course, it is doubtful that there will be another ship that have as many modes as these ones have.
So far can't say I'm impressed or actually interested in those ships. Which is a shame.
I'm VERY disappointed in the KDF ship that STOJamesLee posted as the 1k vet. I would MUCH prefer something meaner looking, more predatory. Like the one in your signature, Lotusthorn.
I think the Klingon vet ship looks great! Especially with those "expendable" warp nacelles. I don't particulary like the Fed ship. Apart from not liking the 4 nacelles setup it looks way too bulky with those mini-nacelles.

For a FREE Fed ship its not bad - A rather meh design / Reminds me of the Saber Class but with a more round saucer segment.
That is if the pictures I am looking at via google image Chimera Class starship is accurate.
Knowing Cryptic they may throw in their own spin on it.
I'm hoping this 1K Vet reward comes with that elegant ship skin that the Bellaphon and Sao Paolo Class came with.
I think its the type 0 material - the one with the bright white and brilliant colors.
There is no canon Chimera Class, so chances are you're not looking at the right ship unless you grabbed the image from this thread.
It's based on this design which was a submission for the contest that the Odyssey eventually won.
Yes ... but think of the opportunity !
You'll be finally be a able to say : "Captain ! There be Whales Here !" , and mean it ! :P
But let's wait until we see them ingame.
