everything was running fine yesterday (well a bit laggy). Came in this morning and it wont load the launcher and I get an error report of:

Until I get things updated/fixed... right now in OS X 10.8 you need to go get XQuartz 2.7.2 and install it to get around the "failed to activate core devices" problem.
So after much messing around I've finally found something that works for me. No more crashing on startup, no more resolution weirdness..
Oddly, I did the exact opposite of what you said - and instead told Wineskin *not* to override the resolution. Instead I set the resolution to 2560x1440 inside STO, and everything works perfectly. The only issue I thought I had was getting out of fullscreen (CMD+ALT+A crashes STO/Wineskin when not set to override).. but actually all I need to do now is set windowed mode in STO.
Note to others reading this: don't just try this on a whim, I have no idea if it'll mess something up. However it does seem to be the one thing that works for me on a 27" iMac.
quick question. I have several buds on mac that I want to copy and paste my wine/STO file to. what is the easiest way to do it?
well, it'll have your user name saved in it, but thats not a major deal. You could run Regedit and search for your username and find it and blank it out, but they'll just change it to their log in anyways so its no major deal.
What you'd want to do is right click the app, and select the "Compress" option, which will make a Star Trek Online.app.zip file. Zipping it that way will make sure there are no permission issues (if you use some other method to compress, it might not do that). Just copy the zip file to the other computers, then double click it to unzip it and you'll have a functioning Star Trek Online.app on the other computers. I'd love to distribute the wrapper easier to use like that, but Cryptic wouldn't give legal permission to for any type of distribution.
I've got an OS X 10.5.8 , so when I downloaded the 1.4.1 version, it said it cannot run on my mac. Then I got the 1.3beta3 version. I ran it and chose the STO .exe file to be loaded I got the terms, pressed "I agree" and then a loading window appeared as if the game was installing. It says "Executing pre-installation actions" but the bar never loads. It stays empty for hours.
Any idea what's wrong and how it can be fixed?
Thanks, and sorry if this was already brought up before.

Sorry if this has been asked before, im new to the game and have a PC at home, which i mainly play on, but have Macbook Pro that i would dearly love to play it on, i have seen this "wineskin" but dont really get it, or what else i need to download to get the game to work. Is there an IDIOTS GUIDE on how to do this? If so, can someone point me in the right direction 207 pages is a lot to try and go through.

The download is in the first post... it comes with directions.
I'd been having success running this under 10.6.8 until last night. When I logged in there was a ~300MB patch that had to be installed. After doing so (not that I had a choice). The screen flickered for about 7 minutes while the STO logo was displayed, then the screen went black and the intro music started. After about a minute of intro music the mouse and keyboard became unresponsive and I had to hard-boot the computer.
There was a crash log associated with this but that may be more of a result of me having tried to kill the wineskin process from an ssh connection to avoid the hard reboot. The output is here: https://gist.github.com/5f7b1ee1b2346a45e904

very rare to have to hard boot... even if its blocking the screen it doesn't block Cmd+Opt+Esc, and Cmd+Q should work too.
is it still happening? something its getting is crashing WineskinX11, which happens in STO pretty easy if you don't have it set to Override screen settings instead of automatic. You may want to take a fresh wrapper and move STO into it and see if it works ok... but I've seen stuck black screens before just from corrupted STO files too... and if there was just an update, that is likely.
When I try to resize it within options.. the size of the window is not optional (greyed out) and any changes I do.. the program freezes and nothing happens.
i was playing normally, my game crashes like it usually does, but when i try to load launcher all i get is a white box on the top of the screen, and launcher doesnt appear, this is the second time this has happened and this is the second time ive had to reinstall the game, is it possible the version of the game i installed to put in the wineskin is not a good version? because i cant think of anything else and hate reinstalling this game.
im running a imac, and besides crashes about every 3 hours, and the bug i just reported it runs great
Having an interesting issue, recently just changed the UMV from a 1.3 to the most recent version. Under the 1.3's I had no problems with graphics for a long time, minus crashing issues related to Verizon's security, on my late 2011 iMac w/ 2.5 GHz i5. After going to this newest version of the UMV, the edges of objects are distorted with jagged lines emanating from pretty much any object. There also is a blurring of the background and objects in the background. Adding to this, having very jumpy screens. All this is happening at any graphics settings.

that should only happen if you have AA turned off in STO graphics options... turn it on and everything should look better.
Hi,
I've recently upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion (10.8) and have been having some trouble getting the wrapper working. The launcher tries to connect twice then gives an error: Patcher error: The patchclient got a message while it was in a state with no response function.
The game ran at low/medium graphic settings under Lion (10.7 - 10.7.4) without issues. Is there support for this new release of OS X (10.8) or does the wrapper not function with it at all?
My config. is mid 2011 MBA 13"
i5-2557m (1.7Ghz-2.7Ghz)
4gb 1333mhz ddr3 ram
intelHD 3000 graphics
256Gb samsung ssd

maybe try a fresh copy of the wrapper...? or a game file is corrupted? it should work fine for you in 10.8
ok, so im reading the rules and im %100 confused. im not sure which im supposed to pick. i got the exe thing from this website and got your file. can you help?
the other night i installed both wineskin, the wrapper for STO, and STO itself. I didn't have any problems until i finished patching (which was a 7,000MB patch followed by a 982MB patch). After launching the patched game i received an error message which said my video card was not supported and it allowed me to either quit, run the default graphics settings, or run the low/reduced video settings. I selected low setting and was sent to a loading screen with the Cryptic logo, followed by one with the STO logo. After getting both of them though i simply got a black screen with music. My keyboard controls allowed me to ctrl+opt+a out of it but then my entire Mac froze and required a manual reboot. I have an NVIDIA GeForce 330M graphics card and Intel HD Graphics on my Mac (It's a MacBook Pro circa Mid-2010) and haven't had a problem running any games before. Anyone know how i can solve this issue, if it can be solved? Thanks in advance.

you cannot use the downloader program. The main little exe you get off the website here is NOT the actual game, but a program that gets the game for you... it will not work. You need to get the full game download directly. Try fileplanet or the Torrent download they have up.

There is no reason to hit "Reduced" as the message only comes up because it cannot detect the card at all... You may try forcing your Nvidia GPU on before starting the game instead of letting the autoswitching try (its problematic at times). Your Mac shouldn't be able to freeze though, even if this crashes... Some people use the STO Options on the log in window and select to run in Safe Mode which often fixes starting up problems.
Thank you for this.
It took a bit of fiddling but I have the wrapper working for both STO and Champions on my 2.4 GHz BMP running 10.6.8.
I use both in Safe Mode which cleared up most issues. For CO I have to use the standard graphics options and not the reduced for some odd reason.
If you're running ClamXAV or similar turning it off seems to help.
Sometimes what I see on my screen for a STO ground mission looks absolutely nothing like what the windows user I'm teamed with sitting in the same room is seeing. Luckily it's only made a few missions unplayable.
Alright, so I'm confuzzled as to how to get this working.
I have Bootcamp installed and it runs fine in Windows. Is there a way I can use your wrapper to use those files? Can I copy them over to my Mac partition and use your wrapper?
Whenever I downloaded the full version of the game from Fileplant, I tried using the wrapper and got this error:
"Ooops! No new executables found! Maybe the installer failed...?
If you tried to install somewhere other than C: drive (drive_c in the wrapper0 then you will get this message too. All software must be installed in C: drive."

Sounds like the installer is failing to run... no idea why if your running the right program.
You do not need to reinstall the game though if you already have it in Windows though. You just need to go into your Program Files (or the x86 version, wherever you installed the game) and grab the whole Cryptic Studios game folder it installs to. Best to zip that whole folder up (it'll be big), and then copy that over to your Mac partition (however you choose to do so). You can just unzip that and put the Cryptic Studios folder inside the wrapper in its drive_c Program Files folder, and you should be good to go.

Hi guys,
I have read a few of the posts (not all, seeing as there are 219 pages) so please forgive me if I have suggested something that someone has already tried but has anyone considered trying to run it in Parallels 7?
I am looking to get a Mac once my laptop gives up on me so I would be interested to know if anyone has attempted this.

Tried that out just this weekend some because the ESD crashes are annoying on this... basically crash and have to re-login in every time. But sadly it runs very poor for me on Win7 Parallels 7. Not worth the hassle doing that when it's running graphically about 10-15% of the speed it does with Wineskin. With a GeForce 650m in Parallels it's graphically laggy running 1280x800 with low graphics setting. In Wineskin I run it maxed out (of what you can with Wine) at 1920x1200 and it normally very smooth, and looks much better. There is just type of memory leak in ESD, the academy and a couple other station that apparently shows its head with Wine, but not Windows... so it can crash easily in a few spots like that. Doesn't make it unplayable, just annoying.
has anyone considered trying to run it in Parallels 7?
I'm sure many have tried, but do consider one thing though... Using Parallels requires you to have a copy of Windows. If you already have that, go ahead. But if you don't, then save the money and spend it on more RAM or perhaps a great mouse instead of filling up Microsoft's coffers... and enjoy the completely free, easy to use / high performance Wineskin solution offered right here... no Windows needed
