If anyone needs more referrals or you exceed the 5 required, just send 'em my way please. I'll match whatever reasonable 'starter' EC amount and be happy to help/party out as long as it doesn't take me away from my out-of-game scheduling. :)

On a couple sidenotes, how does redeeming the referral bonuses even work out? I wouldn't be suprised if they were bugged for a while, while Cryptic gets everything straightened out in the meantime.

Email the key via the referral page. I believe it's best if they can enter the key during account creation, but I think as long as they enter it before entering a retail key, you should be good to go.

When the referral key is entered, status will change to show REDEEMED and you get another key to send to someone else.

Once they enter a retail key, the only way to know is if you receive the bonus. The first one will give you the tribble and 400 CP and then 400CP for every one after that.

There are serious ethical ramifications for allowing this (people selling in game currency using real currency to get an item in game). It cheapens the game. Ruining the value of the item. Makes a lot of people upset. Possible sub cancellations and just no one playing.

You mean, like the C-Store? Where you can buy races and ship stuff for real currency? One could also say this cheaps the game too.

It's ok if Cryptic does it, but if a player does it, no no no we can't have them treading on a slice of the same pie? lol.. ethics, lol..

Has anyone received any of the referral benefits yet? I have several redeemed keys, and those players are supposed to appear on my Friends list, but none of them are.

You don't get any benefits until their status is "upgraded", as long as it just says "redeemed" it just means that they have applied the key to their account only.

Yes, but from the referral page:
As soon as your friend or family creates an account, he or she becomes your recruit. You’ll automatically be added to each other’s friends list, so you’ll be able to link up right away.

And when I asked a GM how I could tell when a referee actually purchases the game or when they pay their first month sub I was told:
You are going to have to go on faith my friend. When the first player activates their account you should get the tribble. When the first player activates their subscription you should get the bridge officer. After that YOU can not tell unless you go on faith and we can not give you that information.

Are any of your keys 'upgraded', and did you receive the Tribble?

Edited previous post. Was GM wrong then? And was your referee added to your friends list, if so, when? And you also have the 'warp to' and skill bonuses?

I hope you realise this is one step away from gold farming.
The only real difference is it's sanctioned by the developers.

If you have a Galaxy X I will not group with you, nor aid you in pvp.
If anyone else with any integrity does this, hopefully it'll send a message.

No doubt you will consider it a futile gesture, and perhaps it will be. But I have my principles.

at all who are new and want to test the game:

1.ooo.ooo credits sound much, but they arent...
actually you dont even need lot of credits while you are lvling up... (at least i didnt)

and at max lvl you will make your own millions very fast!

instead of someone who throws ya some credits and leave you alone,
you should let yourself be invited by someone who really likes the gameplay
and uses referrals because he/she really wants to show the game to others
and who is willing to help you ingame by answering all your questions coming up...

    LIKE ME ;)

Thank you for trying to hijack my referrals, and becoming the devil you hate.

Just to be clear, you can see by my join date that I have followed the evolution of this game for quite some time. You won't find any hate threads in my post history because I really enjoy the game and truly want to share it with like-minded people. Our fleet was established a full year before the game actually released and if you read our charter it is expressly dedicated to helping other players.

All of my personal friends are already in the game so, yes, I am offering referrals to new players and trying to give them a leg up from the start. It's true that there is also an incentive to be gained for myself, but I think my offer is better than pandering and insulting other peoples' integrity.

And if you think Energy Credits are worthless then ask yourself, "Why are Bridge officers selling for 50 million credits?" I've been fortunate in this game and I'm just paying it forward.

PS: I got a BO with Beam Overload III for only 10k on the exchange today.

I just finish playing the demo a couple times, and I quite enjoy the game. I would like to buy the game but I do have a couple of questions,

I want to take avantage of Cygnus-X-1 offer, but I want to know if i take it will I be able to Refer a Friend? and how soon after I buy the game can I do that.

I want to buy the Digital Deluxe Edition. I see a few vendor sell it and Steam.com has the best price. (@39.99$)
My question question is, Is there any difference between Steam digital deluxe verions and other digital deluxe verions?

Well i can see how a million energy credits might be tempting, but i fear it might actually be detrimental to those who take advantage of that since they rob themselves of an experience being able to buy anything they want when they want without effort.

So you see? Those that say energy credits are worthless and easy to get must be wrong because, as you point out, they can buy "ANYTHING THEY WANT" with one million credits.

    LOL

Any luck so far Cygnus? I'm still hoping more people are interested in this game. I'd love to get myself that BOff and eventually that ship. My previous offer still stands, but only after Cygnus has his share, since he started the thread.

I have three upgradeed keys. Still looking for two more!

I made a new Tactical captain to level up with my new friends.

Well, just give me the word when you're at your 5 so I can get my 5 referrals too.

I've been saving a bit of EC in-game and if I still need people by June, I'll offer 2.5 million EC to the next 5 players who are referred by me and subscribes for the extra month (Will verify via Referral Program page). Plus, like I've said before, I'm more than happy to help answer questions, forward you to good sources of information and assist in leveling or solving difficult tasks when you need the help. I'd rather I didn't power you through the *whole* game, since that'll take the fun out of leveling, but I will admit that the first dozen+ levels are a slow(ish) grind with a handful of very frustrating levels (eg: Briar Patch). In those cases, I'm more than happy to help, just to save you the pain of dealing with those negative aspects of the game (As they consist of the majority of my bad memories in this game, lol).

Cygnus, I still have yet to see anything on the forums regarding hard evidence of what the Galaxy X can actually do. It'd be cool if you made a new topic about that once you get it. :)
