I'm back after being kidnapped by Martians!
The Martians told me that they didn't think the Galaxy X was fair either, but refused to declare war on Cryptic because it's an internal human affair.
Stupid Martians.
Anyway yeah, this showing of interest was a double edged sword all along. Logically, Cryptic should see this and grant it to everyone.
But in bottom line business, they're just thinking of all the desperate people buying themselves the game 5 times for this and laughing. Laughing I tell you!
It is true you know at least a few hundred people will go out there and buy five copies of STO. I admit I actually thought about it but THen I remembered I have a Life.

I've entertained the notion of buying 5 more copies when I already currently have 3 copies. Do I really want to be a bigger idiot than I already am? My one friend that started with me already quit the game. And now it's just me... alone in the STO universe.
well alot of peolpe did say it when STO first came out and now they have shown the critics to be right, whats the scam falls down to is money. think about it. fine you can invite peolpe in but they want subscriptions 5x15=75 bucks. so in itself you have to pay 75 bucks plus they want these peolpe to stay on talk about a money scam if you have ever seen one. they give us garbage ships for free and then come out and charge us in ference our friends to get a nice looking model. I am guessing this ship has no special parts to it. also whats the deal with the ships page. why is it still incomplete.
The Galaxy X was a specific ship created specifically for the Referral program. The goal with the other end game ships is that they would be unlockable by reaching the next tier level but the specifics of that are still be discussed.
Here's what I know about it so far - The cannon is specific to this ship, and takes the place of a weapon's slot, but is not an item that can be removed and placed on another ship. It shows up as a captain's power on your weapon tray. The beam is intendend to be a very narrow front cylinder beam that can pass through objects and hit multiple targets if you are lined up properly (out to a set distance).
There are no details yet on recharge timers or how it impacts cooldowns of other powers/weapons.
I've also heard rumor that it may have a non-battle cloak - which means that it might be able to cloak - but only out of combat.
Once the designer is finished with the ship - I'll see if I can get the full details.
The ship will be available by the time that your referals hit their first 30 day billing cycle.

Management is aware of this thread ...
Any further word on this, sir?
Also, I noticed this on the Atari website:
This Tier 5 vessel will be cleared for active duty and released from the Utopia Planetia Shipyards when Season One, Update Two releases. Once it is available it may be claimed by all Federation & Klingon characters on an account however it may not be cosmetically edited via the ship tailor.
Does this mean I, as a dedicated Klingon, could refer 5 friends and be rewarded with the Galaxy X also?

I just died a little inside.
How the hell did Atari get THAT past CBS? A few people crossing sides is one thing, but the KDF flying Starfleet ships? WHAT?
I DO NOT agree with the Galaxy-X being available in C-Store..not now, not ever, UNLESS it's just a skin.
Most players agreed that putting anything in the C-store that would have a significant effect in game such as powers or abilities should be avoided at all cost..otherwise it becomes a question of who has the most money to be competative. This is no different. If it's going to be just a skin...well hell..why not. But anything else..like special cannon or cloak (god please no no no no) then it should not go on the C-Store.
To be honest I would be against ANY ship with special powers only available to a few or C-Store. It just opens the flood gates for problems later on.
Offer it is a skin, but please dont start messing with game balance and special powers only available to a few or messing with Canon to the point you really start messing up the storyline.
And rather than a Federation vessel being available to Klingons....cant the boys with the bumps have their own ship instead?

I'm pretty sure the part you highlighted wasn't new (the non-editable part that is). And I remember them saying they were looking into a Klingon version of this ship as well.

Yeah, that doesn't imply a Klingon version so much as "KDF characters tooling around in a refit Galaxy".

True, if you stick by the words of Atari... but it's not entirely out of character for them to completely jump the gun on promotions and announce things before the team actually responsible for making things and making them work have all the details.
from a businees standpoint this is brilliant take a highly wanted item and offer it for getting more customers for cryptic i applaude their idea wether you like it or dont like it you have to admit its genius

If we were looking at the short-term, then yes, it is. However, MMO companies need to think about the long-term. If Cryptic had waited until after the game was more fully developed than try to get people to spread a good word about a game that is currently bleeding subs, then maybe it would be a better idea. As it currently stands, people who are still here are put off by the idea of giving an item like the Galaxy-X to people who either shell out $225.00 or lie through their teeth about how GREAT the game is. It's a good game, but not worth bribing people for.
TLDR: Short-term = Good idea ... Long-term = Bad idea
It doesnt matter what the new shiny is people will want it and complain we need another way to get it. Look at the mirror universe uniforms nothing special there except you had to be a member of co and buy lifetime to get it they have no special powers but people still whine they want another way to get them.
I will applaude cryptic if they don't give in to the whiners and keep it exclusive. If they make every special item available and easily obtainable there's no point to it also it would TRIBBLE them over in the future how many people would bother trying to recruit people if they knew in a few months they could just get the item free or cheap?

Its is going to be this type of elitist attitude that will be the downfall of this game.......... prematurely.
I have many of the exclusives and taking the trek out of Star Trek is STO suicide. Then your Mirror Universe uniforms are pretty useless.......

that's what people claimed with elder jedi robes in swg if you don't give everyone a chance to get them the game will die here it is i think 5 years after the nge and the game is still going grant it it's not as sucessful as it once was but it's still there
What? SWG is dead. The only thing that differs SWG from Tabula Rasa is that SWG's servers are still up.
Though ironically if Tabula Rasa still had servers it would probably have a bigger population.
Do you honestly want SWG as the example for STO? A game based on a popular franchise bled dry by uncaring developers?

Keeping exclusives that reflect the Star Trek IP exclusive only to those who buy two lifetime subs, get ten different boxes, recruit five strangers, etc. is essentially suicide. There has to be a way to EARN these items, either as a really hard to get accolade or through the Vet program. The C-Store shouldn't be a place for them, but there should be an alternative.
And you know what? If the game was in a better shape than it is now, I would be willing to spread the word without having a giant carrot dangling in front of me. I love Star Trek and would love to see this game live long and prosper, but the way that marketing is handling things this game is going to be a ghost town. People have left the game for less than the referral program fiasco.
Hey Devs... you have a thread with over 1100 posts and almost 29000 views... what's that tell you about peoples desire for the Galaxy-X?
I would like it too, but will never have it unless you offer alternative methods for acquiring the ship.
but how many are for making it available other ways and how many against? also most of the posters are the same people over and over again
I've said it before and i'll say it agin let's go to a store together i'll buy something and you try to convince them to give you the same product for free or some other way
also like another poster stated this isn't you have one week to do this you have time get out there put the work in for what you want

If Cryptic hadn't continuously claimed that STO wasn't going to become the sort of cash shop MMO where you pay for items of power, then your argument would have some merit.
never believe any mmo that isn't going to cash in when they can look at swg just be glad there isn't tcg here yet where all the cool new things from packs with lottery chances of getting the new cool item
Thanks Cryptic for burying this thread so successfully, took me a good 10 minutes to find again after it was moved from General Discussions. Kinda obvious they way they're sweeping criticism of their plans under the rug, just another example of why people are drifting awy from the game.
If the Galaxy-X referral concept is such a bad policy, why is Cryptic trying to pull an "Australian Government" approach and ploughing ahead with it anyway. sticking your fingers in your ears and going "Nya-Nya-Nya!" to drown out complaints does not make your concept any better.

Because its too late to back out now for both Cryptic and the Rudd government... they've dug themselves in too deep on their respective issues to back out, pride and reputation (Lol) withstanding.
Can you imagine if Cryptic gave in about the Galaxy now? They'd never hear the end of it, especially when making future decisions that the community disagreed with.
fine what mmo should sto be compared to all mmos have one thing in common they are businesses businesses exist to amke money and people that constantly want the special items free or other ways simply hurt the companies bottom line and thus hurt the chance of survival of the business if the game is too expenseive for you may i suggest a browser mmo

Angering your customers with blatantly obvious nickel and diming is bad for business, you know.
But if you consider temporary profit superior to long term financial viability then by all means continue to defend Cryptic.

And completely devaluing "rewards" by making anyone with a bug up their shuttle bay able to get it for sneezing makes effort and dedication meaningless.
You still think there should be NO exclusivity for rewards?
Based on what?
Sorry, but you're shafting people that want to actually earn things by making it so you can slouch your way through life.
Look, I'm still with you on making this specific item something anyone can get, but on the condition something else, something different, become an *exclusive* reward for the referral system.
Have your X, but no cloak or cannon. Or give something completely different - and exclusive - to those of us working our asses off trying to get people to give the game a try (it isnt an easy sell, but more because the people I know aren't looking for a new mmo right now).
Hell, it makes MORE sense to give us a different reward, simply because not all of us fly or want a cruiser.

Approximately 50k people still play SWG, so its got half as many players as STO.

Comparing STO with SWG is like saying the weather in Britain isn't so bad when compared with Jupiter.
Or comparing ANY MMO with WoW.
