Is there any word on this ships special abilities as well? If I remember correctly, the Galaxy X could do Warp 14. I'm hoing that will translate into some special engines that make it significantly faster. A special Phaser Cannon slot (sax XIII) would be nice too for the underside of the saucer. DAMN!!! I want that ship!

So you're on board with wanting STO to become an Asian cash shop MMO with a Western-style subscription fee?

Everyone (except where prohibited by silly laws) has the chance to get the RAF rewards, everyone. It can't be done any fairer than it is. So, I'm not getting the 'no one else is going to have a chance of getting' part... everyone has a chance at getting it.

Or, you could read what he actually wrote, and see that he's excited about the RAF reward ship and wants it... one has nothing to do with the other.

i'd like to point out that while the forums are insanely active with rage, i tried bringing the referal program disuccsion in game, via both my factions on either side, talking in sol space dock, and qonos.... 95% of the people who replied asked #1 what's a galaxy-x, #2 we have a referal program? how does it work? and the other 5% said they didn't care either way...and 2 people that knew about it said they liked the idea and 1 person spent 3 post swear about how much of a bad idea it is...... so the results in game show a vastly different result then on the forums.. people either a) weren't overly aware of it b) didn't care either way or c) didn't care enough to voice their opinion... which just goes to show that the minority here is the forums, like all the reasonably logic people have been saying all along...
also i'd like to point out how far the game has come in 3 months, imagine how far it will be in another 3 months... give it 5 months and your friends will be begging for a referal from you, so it won't be very hard to get referals....

personally, i think the forums are just filled with people who would rather whine about the game then play
or, the few of us, who (like me ) can't play at a particular time do to w/e reason, and so instead we browse the forums ( though i find these people tend to be the logically reasonable people )

how hard is it to refer 5 friends? if the game sucks that much that you can't refer 5 friends, #1 why are you still playing, and #2 why are you worrying about a single item in game if it sucks that much... truth is, everybody is just being lazy and having a temper tantrum like a little kid because things aren't going thier way.
grow up, and stop being hypocritical....

I'd almost guarantee you'll see several of them a month after the RAF program goes live. You already have a number of players who bought every available edition of the game to get costume pieces, playable factions, etc. That's plunking down a lot of cash for the game and I believe it safe to say there will be those who will do this for the RAF as well.

I see your point, but if people buy five boxes and make five accounts only to sub each one for one month so they can get the Galaxy X by themselves, that goes to prove my point as before. Box sales might go up, but long term subs will not.

People who are going to buy themselves a Galaxy X are probably not going to continue subscribing on their "RAF accounts", as STO is not a game where multiple accounts are really needed.

people are missing a fact here, you don't need to buy the box set for a refer a friend, all you do is give your friend the refer code and they get a free basic version of the box without any bells or whistles, all they need to do is subscribe to play after the trial period runs out... if you buy a box it basicly voids the referal, unless the box code gives you a 1 month subscription instead of 30 days free, which, i don't think, will count towards the referal requirments....

I'm suggesting, in an admittedly bitter and sarcastic manner, that joyous anticipation of special powers and abilities from an item that is being basically bought outright is being happy that Cryptic is selling special abilities rather than having them be part of the basic game mechanics and enriching the possibilities of what can be earned in-game.

They must purchase a copy of the game after their Free Trial runs out. That's how you get the Holo-Tribble. After they have played their free month and subscribed for an additional month you get your Holo-BO and Cryptic Points. When you get 5 people to do that you get your Galaxy X.

In the short term I agree with you. Long term, I can't really say one way or the other how effective the RAF will/will not be. I don't think Cryptic is anticipating/wanting this being a short term 1 month deal.

Except RAF rewards have no relationship to selling special in game abilities, one is a reward for getting 5 additional subscribers, one is going to the C-Store and buying an i-win button.

How do you know that the other T5 variants he mentioned as being developed for the game won't have any kind of special abilities unique to them too?

No, it's a reward for causing 5 boxes to be purchased and have those copies subscribe for at least one month each.

    You're speculating.

Because if they did that, then where would be the incentive to play already existing T5 ships?

    It's a vicious cycle.

    :)

i haven't seen anything on any of the offical pages concerning either a holo tribble or the requirements to purchase the game, can you link it please?

Personal preference? I for one would stick with my Sovereign. I really don't need a T5 Galaxy class than can separate if it gets added.

You know what... heres a great way to have a real laugh with this promotion.

Get 5 people to subscribe = Get Galaxy-X

Player only has the Galaxy-X as long as those 5 REMAIN active.

If they leave / become in-active - Galaxy-X Removed from player

Yeah... those folks that go and cheat to buy it for themselves will have to maintain 5 seperate accounts to keep the Galaxy-X in their inventory thus providing Cryptic a SUSTAINED income for development.

    6x$20 a month, every month = $120

    DO IT CRYPTIC !!!!

It's the reward for recruiting a player (they don't have to sub for a second month, it's automatic once they are in).

They need to subscribe to the game for a month. That doesn't mean the Free month which comes with the game. :)

You get a Holo-Tribble if they buy it. You get a Holo-BO if they subscribe after buying it.

For the recruiter title and rewards yes, but the Courier title and holo-tribble they only need to buy the game.

Yes. I was just pointing out the obvious. Slightly less wordy than the usual pot and kettle allusions.

I refuse to wait until what I fear is fait accompli before arguing against it. That way it might not come to pass, in my delusionally optimistic fantasy world at least. There are a wide array of simple assurances that could be offered but haven't, and the story still seems to be in flux as information keeps trickling in.

But the man told you several times now they don't know what the full details are yet. How can he offer any information when he has none? You're asking him to make promises he may not be able to keep. They're damned if they give out information and they're damned if they don't. It's a vicious cycle with some on these forums I guess.

Yeah, but I think people really only care about how the get the Galaxy X, and for that they need to get 5 people to buy the game and subscribe for a month, not just buy the game and play for the free month.

Well, the way I see it I'm asking earlier assurances to be honored. However, I've not been pestering for further clarification beyond a reply to each incomplete clarification. I've been arguing with people who think the possibilities I fear are just fine and dandy and/or think that their speculation that all will be well trumps my speculation that it won't.

I'm all for it. I'll be sending out my first wave of invites this weekend and see how it goes from there. In 2-3 months I could be flying a Galaxy X, or not. :D

What each person enjoys is subjective. What you hate I might love and vice-versa. That's why we all have free will to decide for ourselves. :)

Not only do we get the privilege of paying to play the game but we get to also work for cyptic.

Hey maybe this will catch on, next time you buy gas or groceries you can pump a few others ppls gas and start bagging groceries for other customers.
