I really only have one thing to say about this reward ... and it's a warning for all involved ...
The Referral Program when it was put in over at Champions Online was ... the subject of much consternation with the playerbase. Because many people could not get their reward for their friends who signed up through it. Because many of their friends had already played in a FREE weekend. And so, according to the fine print, had already signed up for the game. So the referral program did not recognize them as counting.
Guess what STO is about to have?
That's right. A FREE WEEKEND!
You've all been warned. I never bothered to remember how that all played out and if people got that fixed. But heed my warning ... this referral reward may be more hassle than it's worth.
Must say this is a bit frustrating... I have already got my brother playing the game and have 2 more friends interested... but thats it - don't have another 3 to get this and I would love to have it... bummer.
I expect we'll see it in the C-Store once they realize just how few people get to the 5 referrals point and decide to cash in on it (hell I would).
im going to go out on a limb and say i would prefer the holographic BO over the ship....lol
just a truth....
Agreed. I however wouldn't mind a ship. But I don't play cruisers. So where is my incentive for recruiting 5 players? Or the players who only play science vessels? This incentive only really offers something to a certain percentage of the player base. Those that play cruisers and those that would want it for a collectors trophy. The rest have no incentive to recruit anyone beyond 1 player. Not a very well thought out recruiting strategy. They really need to offer a skin for all classes.
I do however agree with the OP. There needs to be a secondary alternative for obtaining this reward. But I also agree with Darren_Kitlor. It is to early to stress about this Shikamaru. Let's just wait and see.
Some of us are just going to have to sacrifice a few of our friends to those who have to have this ship or pool all our friends together and have a lottery to see who wins five friends in the pool so they can get the ship.
i dont mind if they add to to the referral program, (although 5 people with active subscriptions is a bit much) just make it available down the line, either in game/c-store or veterans
to be honest im sure they will as it would be silly not too

People, please get ahold of yourselves. Just because there is one ship in the game that you might not be able to get because you can't comply with the requirements, you're going to LEAVE the game?
May God have mercy on your tortured soul...
The purpose of this promo is obviously to get more people into the game. Suggesting they switch this for a 400 day veterans award is ridiculous. A 400 day veteran's award doesn't help nearly as much as 5 potential new subscribers that could become long-time subs.
If you can't get the promo Enterprise because you can't find 5 friends, so what? Why do you have to have EVERYTHING? What kind of internal deficit is this obsession with obtaining every little imaginary piece of a game supposed to solve? Is it helping?
hell if they made these rewards for Fleet actions(player with the highest damage) and the STFs (please dear god.. not the cure reward!) that would make them more fun ... look at the crazy star wars galaxies mission things... all that fuss over a few backpacks.. robes etc :O
Actually the friende I have wich care about Star Trek startet the game with me together, the most already have quittet, the last one wont buy another game card when his game time is over; wich happens this week.
So I dont know where i should find 5 other friends to get that GalaxyX; although I'd really like to have it.
Why do they not reward with cryptic points or things like that?
Unlike for the holographic officer and lots of other stuff in the past there is no word on the Galaxy that it's "exclusive" only for those recruiter....^^

Or Cryptic could stop nickle and diming every chance they get and actually come up with legitimate ways to keep players playing their game, like making it an STF reward or something (from the upcoming Terrordome?)
But I suppose that would be considered good game design, and they seem incapable of that.
/signed and agreed Cryptic I have invested way more then I see in return, all new perks I should just get, I am an original investor with three copies of this game, I am so sick of being nickled and dimed to death......really?
You guys are like annoying strippers who just beg for us to buy lap dances when your product is not that attractive.
I can maybe talk one person into a subscription, but hey I like most of my friends why would I con 5 of them?
Another brilliant way to enrage the community. I can barely keep myself here and they want me to bring others. Seriously I really want to shake hands with people in Cryptics marketing department. They are great comedians if nothing else.
You guys are getting in a tissy over nothing. This will be temporary cash/subscriber grab. I guarantee you this is in the C-Store to make them even more money within 3 months.

In days past I would berate you with talk of hating and poor attitude, instead I'm starting to agree..................
By recruting, you are doign a 'job' for cryptic and in return being 'paid' with a ship model.
All you guys complaining like this, it's like complaining about your boss at work if he doesn't pay you because you can't be bothered going in to work and doing the job.
You scratch cryptics back, they'll scratch yours.
You get cryptic some new customers, they give you a thank you for doing so.

How about the scratch players for paying a sub first?
First, I think the 3-nacelle designs (and most of the Cryptic ship designs) are horrible.
Intrepdiox and Flato, I agree with both of you. It's utterly amazing how much money people seem willing to throw at this game rather than take a little time to earn it in-game. For all of you who complained about raids and who made all of those cute little quips about what they can do with raids, that's how a lot of other people feel about all of the items going into the C-store or being tacked on to things like the RAF promotion. Do I need or want every little item in the game? No, not even close, but I am willing to spend time in-game to earn what I want since I don't think it's fair to pay a subscription and something extra for items that a lot of P2P MMOs include in their games as part of the monthly fee.
Seriously Cryptic, add all of this C-store garbage as STF rewards or other mission/FA rewards and watch your retention double instantly. While there will always be the people who don't mind being taken advantage of to buy from the C-store, there are also a lot of people paying $15/month who will stay in just to earn that one item they really want but don't want to pay extra for and then they will repeat that again for the next item.
Kinda makes you wonder which Cryptic is more interested in: $2.00 now or $15.00 month-to-month.
100% on the money here.
Having the c-strore stuff in-game as loot drops or quest rewards would add much needed content to a content lite game.

You mistake the roles off boss and employee with customer and supplier. Crytpic needs us customer's way more than we need Cryptic
Ironic coming from a lifer. The unfortunate fact is Cryptic no longer need us at all.
That's not true.
I'm not a life but even i realize that some portion of the lifers will make purchases from the c-store at some point. Eventually they will put a decent ship design in there and every lifer will spend a few bucks to get it.
if the c-store ships where scrapped and everyone could have access to these skins, it would make the game so much bigger. this game is going to end up like wow with everyone in the same armor apart from the few who pay for others.
its wrong, i want to see more ships flying about.
i told a friend about the new galaxy class skin, he was well excited, untill i told him how u could get one, then well lets just say he said a 4 letter word and laughed

There's that, and that the Lifers should be a core population that has a vested interest in the game and dragging people into playing it so they maximize their own return. Then again, nobody I tried to drag into STO even during my increasingly rare swings toward the fanboy side of the spectrum has left, and not slowly either. *sigh* I have no idea what poor TRIBBLE I'd inflict a subscription on for the BO, let alone the Galaxy-X. Fortunately, I don't actually want either very much, but having them stuck behind this partuclar wall is really irksome.
Whoever said that the stuff showing up in the C-Store and especially stuff like thisshould have been in-game rewards for various in-game things instead is right. Now I realize why the item system is so damn bland - any new ideas get turned into some marketing gimmick or another.
why is everyone so content to shovel money into cryptics hands all the time? instead of demanding that they make it cheaper why isn't it that they improve the game and actually add incentive to play the end-game STF's and offer unique rewards like this?
all this nickle and diming for a quick boost of cash isn't going to save the game can't they, and you people see that?
I don't think Cryptic is at all interested in improving the game. The forum games they've been playing are one thing, but any time one of the suits is interviewed, it's all "we'd love to see that in the game at some point in the future. They probably don't have or are not willing to spend the money to fix it. And if they are, I don't see anything that convinces me that they have the capability.

Do you complain that the grocery store is "nickel and dimeing you"? Do you complain when you have to pay the cleaner for every shirt they clean?
People don't mind paying for something they enjoy, or want to have.
Not all of us were born with a silver spoon in our mouths and have everything handed to us on a silver platter, we earn our money by working jobs and use that money for our own enjoyment.
We enjoy STO and Star Trek in general, therefore we are willing to pay for things in the game that we would like to have, if you do not want to use the c-store, that is your prerogative.
Cryptic did not create this game for free, they did not create this game specifically for you.
We knew the C-store would be in game months before release, (by we, I mean people that do a bit of reading before we buy things).
And as far as "saving the game" what do you mean by that, are you implying the game is dying? Are you one of those fatal minded emo kids that cries doom everywhere they go?
STO is not dying, it is getting better, but it takes time to program and code, the devs can't just snap their fingers and magically create content and updates.
I understand if you do not have the patience to wait, some people just never learn it, it requires a certain attitude and mindset to pull off.
I have no doubt that the ship will be available via means other than this promotion eventually. No business makes a point of *not* giving customers what they want. It's all about the "when" and "how".
This game is rapidly devolving into a Trekkie digital collection of fluff. No real game needed, just log on admire your Borg officer, your special ship costume and your mini skirt. What's the next thing to collect? A new exclusive ship skin? I gotta have that!
I honestly don't think a digital toy room will be enough to support this game. Not with nost people anyways. I understand that vanity and collection is a vital part of MMOs, but it's usually the frosting on a game, not the game itself. Well, outside of Second Life that is.
I like eye candy as much as the next guy, but I'm not seeing much more than that being released. Yeah, I know about the "Zergasodes", they don't really interest me. Terrordome looks interesting, at least there is voice, but it's still just kill everything in sight.
We definetly need more bread in this game and less cake if you ask me. Yeah, I know...later.
Now, everyone go back to argueing over this game breaking issue of yet another exclusive "costume".:)

lol talk about hitting the nail on the head:D
I'm an over 40 male, I barely have 5 friends I keep in contact with let alone 5 that would play this MMO for 32 days.
Thanks for literally nothing. Genius move knowing your customer base.
