I was being civil in this discussion. You weren't. It is very difficult to get me angry, as I am a very laid-back and easy going guy. Flaming my posts when I'm already in a bad-mood is one of the few things that can set me off. I wasn't being an internet tough guy, as an internet tough guy is someone who purposefully starts things over the internet because the anonymity makes them feel tough. I don't need anonymity to go off on people during the rare occurrences where something sets me off.

When I am being civil in a conversation, I expect others to be civil as well. Being sarcastic because you don't agree with someone's views makes you look like the fool. In the future, I would highly suggest that you discuss things with a civil tongue on these forums, if you don't wish to get an infraction for flaming.

I bid you all adieu as I am getting off to watch some Voyager. I hope to see a dev response soon.

    You baited the guy first.

I think he's right that rewards like the AGT Galaxy class should be obtainable through other means because getting 5 other people to buy and subscribe to STO is not just a difficult task, it's impossible for some people(they may have friends who already subscribed, or friends who don't want to, or no friends at all, etc). No in-game asset should be impossible to obtain, just difficult. Hell if they made it cost the same price in C store points as 5 months of subscription time, I'd be happy with that.

Same, and if I were Cryptic, 20 bucks worth of points would be the C-store price I would use. It needs to be igh enough to control the population, high enough so that those that do unlock it through referrals don't feel ripped off, and low enough so that everyone could potentially afford it. 15 or 20 sounds right to me.

20 is probably low compared to a game purchase and a month's subscription. Realistically, if they were to do this without undercutting the referral program, it would have to be $50 worth of C-Store points and that's just for a one subscriber reward.

For me, I won't go out of my way for this but I may offer any of my actual close friends to buy their first months worth of recurring gametime for them or something to get them to stay long enough for the reward. That's if they were inclined to buy the game anyway.

For those that haven't heard yet, the rewards for the referral Program have been announced. A holographic bridge officer is the reward for 1 friend buying a 1 month subscription, and The All Good Things Galaxy class variant will be the reard for 5 friends buying 1 month subscriptions. Now many players have wanted to see this ship in-game, but this will make it almost impossible to get. Many of us don't have friends that like Star Trek to begin with, and for those that do, many of them have already recruited their friends through CE buddy cards and other means. This will make the class all but impossible to obtain for many players. I propose 1 of two ideas for fixing this problem:
    • Switch the 400 day veteran reward, the Captain's Yacht with the All Good Things Galaxy, since all players can obtain the 400 day reward. Or make it a 500 day reward.
    • Make the All Good Things Galaxy available in the C-store for a premium fee at the same time the first few players unlock it through the Referral Program.

I for one have done everything I can to support Cryptic and improve this game, and though the devs have done other controversial things in the past, I have stuck by them for the sake of the game. However, this is the first things they've done that could break the game for me. If this isn't remedied, I for one might end up leaving STO.

Once again, I find myself agreeing overwhelmingly with Shikamaru. This time I'm a little fired up because it seems like Cryptic/Atari go to great lengths to figure out what stuff Trekkers want most and then attach strings to them and say "Dance for us and jump through these hoops if you want them." Always in an effort to garner more box sales, which is all this is. Its another money grab. Every time Cryptic/Atari does it, some marketing person shows up confused about why we would *ever* think that. I feel so stupid for having bought into their spin before. I used to think they were just new, that they didn't really know how whatever it was they were TRIBBLE up before could be perceived negatively. Now, I think perhaps Cryptic/Atari really does think we are that stupid.

Just wait, in a day or so, when they have had time to properly spin this issue someone like Rekhan will show up, with an official announcement apologizing that we yet again misunderstood the most benevolent of intentions of Cryptic/Atari. Look more closlier and you will see the word "special" instead of "exclusive" and that means we fully intend to let everyone have access to it via the C-Store when CBS/Paramount/Viacom (or any other entity that they want to blame it on this time) will allow them but that they had a contractual obligation of some sort.

Behavior like this is why I canceled my account. Just be upfront with your customers, most of us would gladly pay a premium price for a really well designed canon vessel if you put it on the C-Store instead of this TRIBBLE where you try to trick people into getting you more box sales and subs.

I am already in a really bad mood because my power supply died, so I for one don't feel like getting my first infraction, so please, stop while you know what's good for you.

Off Topic but I have a power supply you can have if you want to pay shipping

On Topic, I agree 100% and have contemplated buying 5 boxes and 5 subs but I am not going to do exactly what Cryptic wants, just like buying multiple copies of pre order boxes to have the items later released for free.

I already replied to the other thread about this before I got around to reading this one. I would like to see it available some other way, because I am a disable shut-in (ftw) who barely even knows that many people let alone people who would play this game. If not, then oh well. I won't cry or beg or what have you because it's just some pixels in a game. Not gonna hurt my feelings one bit either way. Just adding my voice to the "Make it available Elsewhere" camp. ;)

The game is incomplete and has very little content, There is barely anything to do at RA 5 and what there is, is very repetitive. Loot is boring the only cool itmes cryptic creates is c store, preorder, and special promotions and i am sick of this. IMO bridges ships skins this new all good things ship along with every other bonus should all be unlockable in game, Some should be a lot harder then other but they should all be things to achieve but unfortunatetly all crpytic wants is are money and not to produce a good game. This all good things ship is the most blant of all, recruit 5 people who all buy the game i think 20 dollars is min now and then 1 month each so lets see price per ship is 175 dollars lol

You can call it whining if you like, but promoting jealousy is a bad idea. That green little monster known as envy can wreak some severe havoc when it feels like it. You would really regret seeing the entire first page of the forums filled with complaints from players that are being forced to wait for a reward that was unlocked only for an elite group of players.

I'd disagree with this, too. There should be things that not everyone can get. There should be things that cause people to at least stop to wonder about the value vs. money spent. That's why special editions are so popular. For some, the extras aren't worth the cost. For others, they are. People really need to get over their "I must have everything" mentality, unless they're willing to take the steps required to actually get everything.

Im fine with things not everyone can get but not when they involve real world dollars we alrady pay enough for this unfinished game and all they do is add more and more items that cost money that should be available in the first place.......

I have been saying this for WEEKS now. If they had put the new C-store Ships as rewards in some way from STF's (recipe drop that you can craft at memory alpha for example) it would improve the game IMMENSLEY. but they are more concerned with making a quick buck on their c-store.

Or Cryptic could stop nickle and diming every chance they get and actually come up with legitimate ways to keep players playing their game, like making it an STF reward or something (from the upcoming Terrordome?)

But I suppose that would be considered good game design, and they seem incapable of that.

Turning so much that could be new and interesting into marketing gimmicks is beginning to **** me off beyong the capacity for rational thought.

First, I think the 3-nacelle designs (and most of the Cryptic ship designs) are horrible.

Intrepdiox and Flato, I agree with both of you. It's utterly amazing how much money people seem willing to throw at this game rather than take a little time to earn it in-game. For all of you who complained about raids and who made all of those cute little quips about what they can do with raids, that's how a lot of other people feel about all of the items going into the C-store or being tacked on to things like the RAF promotion. Do I need or want every little item in the game? No, not even close, but I am willing to spend time in-game to earn what I want since I don't think it's fair to pay a subscription and something extra for items that a lot of P2P MMOs include in their games as part of the monthly fee.

Seriously Cryptic, add all of this C-store garbage as STF rewards or other mission/FA rewards and watch your retention double instantly. While there will always be the people who don't mind being taken advantage of to buy from the C-store, there are also a lot of people paying $15/month who will stay in just to earn that one item they really want but don't want to pay extra for and then they will repeat that again for the next item.

Kinda makes you wonder which Cryptic is more interested in: $2.00 now or $15.00 month-to-month.

I most certainly am not a troll. A troll is someone who purposefully posts an inflammatory message just to get others riled up. I, on the other hand, posted a legitimate concern of many players, and was very civil in my discussion of the issue at hand. Far from trolling I'm afraid.

I wouldn't exactly say that it is a nefarious plot to sell boxes. Sure, they are trying to increase the subscription rate by getting players friends to subscribe, but I think they see the AGT Galaxy as an incentive to get people to pitch the game better to their friends, as opposed to a device specifically for getting players to buy 5 box copies and 5 subscriptions just to get the ship. It seems to be an unintentional bi product of what would have been a good plan to get subscription rates up.

I would agree that some difficult to obtain items should make people way the pros and the cons, and make people decide if it is worth it, but I disagree that any item should only be made available through one avenue, since that particular avenue may be impossible for some players to go down. Items should be hard to obtain, but not impossible.

Cryptic's error here seems to be an unintentional by product of them thinking that players would still be able to find 5 friends. The problem is that many players don't even have 5 friends that like Star Trek.

Players have been begging for more canon ship variants since launch. Though they originally stated that they were in talks with CBS to license more canon ships for Season 2, those plans were apparently put on hold (as there is nothing about it in the Season 2 section of the latest Engineering Report). So many players were excited when dstahl said a new canon ship variant would be made available through the rewards/referral system, but I suppose many of us though we would only need to refer one friend to unlock it, I know I did. No we find out that it will take 5 referrals to unlock it.

So they're taking something that players have been begging for since release, a new canon ship, and they're making it available to only a small number of players. It's even worse than the blue name fiasco. At least the blue name fiasco wasn't caused by the devs and was caused by certain lifers lauding there titles over other players. I could deal with that since the devs didn't have a hand in it, but this is directly caused by the devs, and will likely cause the same negative backlash.

Now I don't want this to become a riot like the salegate fiasco, and I may have been extreme in saying I'd quit over it. It was a brash statement, and I doubt this will cause me to quit, but I don't want to see this ship become an item only an elite group of players can obtains. As I said before, we do not need a recurrence of the blue name fiasco, with this elite group lauding the ship over other players.

I see no difference in the "All Good Things Enterprise" and the Classic Original Enterprise offered from Gamestop. Both are special offers, are not just handed to everyone, and are iconic starships that every Trek fan covets.

Now we know Cryptic's exclusives don't have a very long shelf-life so I imagine within a year it will be available in the C-Store for those who have not yet gotten it. I really think we all need to get over our feelings of entitlement and either play the game or find something more suitable to our needs.

I'm also one of the ones who really won't be able to recruit anyone (let alone 5!) to get this reward as I already recruited everyone I could when the game first came out. I literally have noone else to ask :(

*If* it stays this way the only way I'll be able to get the ship variant is to buy 5 dummy accounts :(

DIdn't dstahl say they were working on costumes for Season 2 starting this week or next?

I know he meant personal costumes but he may also mean more ships variants as they're referred to as "ship costumes" (the Klingons would like this especially).

    There are two main differences:

The Constitution was cheaper/easier to obtain.
The Constitution is only viable during the lower levels, while the AGT Galaxy is an end-game ship, where players spend a lot more of there time. So while they are both technically aesthetic, the AGT will have a lot more of an effect on immersion and how you play the game.

I need to make sure it is my PSU first. I have my brother, who is a computer consultant and network administrator, coming over to check it soon. All I know is that I was playing STO earlier when I had a power outage (I do have a powerstrip/surge protector). I flipped the breakers back on, went up and tried to turn the computer back on, only to find that it wouldn't cut on. I turned the PSU off and back on, unplugged and replugged all the cord both in and out of the case, but it still won't cut on. I'm getting him to check and make sure the PSU is fried, and that it didn't fry the motherboard as well. I still need to dig up the paperwork and see if the warranty is still good as well. If I need one, I'll let you know.

It just really annoys me as I only have so much money, and my XBOX 360 bit the dust, so I need to get a new one to play the Halo Reach beta that started today. Now this happens, and I don't know if I'll have enough to fix both. Hopefully, I missed something, and the PSU is fine.

You should be able to send the 360 back to MS to get checked out though. If out of warranty they may charge like $100 to repair it depending on the issue. Surge protector wouldn't save you in a brownout though which is probably what happened just before the actual power outage.

I think this is the part that bothers me most. I can understand the recruit five friends part, but each game purchased comes with 30 days free gameplay. Lets say all 5 friends decide that they don't like the game during that 30 days and decide not to subscribe. You just went through all of that work to get 5 friends to try STO for nothing. Then you'd have to start all over.

The time and effort to do this seems more of a gamble of luck then a reward for customers work.
