The only thing that should be needed to sell this game is the game itself.
Cheap gimmicks and inducements are a waste of time and money. What we need is Season 2, done right. ASAP.
The current game will not retain subs. Once you reach RA5, you only get new content once a month.
I don't think anybody is arguing that, but from a business standpoint they do need this program. Having a recruit-a-friend program makes perfect business sense, it's how they are going about implementing this program that's borked.
That's exactly what the Devs are working on right now.
They need to redouble their efforts.
Seriously, if I were a STO Dev, I'd not be leaving the building. I'd be sleeping in my office. If I were on the marketing team, I'd be trying to find forgiveness with God.
If they don't, well, their jobs are in the same jeopardy the game is in.
Oh, well, if it's the only ship of its kind, that's proof it's going to be way better in every way than every other ship in the game, OBVIOUSLY.
The Runabout is the only ship of its kind in the game, too. It's even got a unique weapon...
The runabout doesn't cloak, have a superweapon, and all the other slots and abilities of a T5 cruiser.
No one would want the Galaxy X otherwise. Frankly, I hate the Galaxy. Ugliest Enterprise ever. Nothing like the beautiful and graceful Constitution. Notice the Sovereign tried to copy the Constitution Refit in many ways...
perhaps another way to unlock it would be sort of how most games have an epic quest for each class.perhaps they can put together a long multi-tiered mission sort of like a few "to be continued" missions back to back for the end game and as a reward for the last part, you get a chance to buy the galaxy x class ship from a shipyard.

Good idea as well, IMHO.
- A veteran reward (already in the OP)
- A C-Store item (already in the OP)
- A Memory Alpha "ship design" that can be built using the new/improved crafting system (should be added to the OP)
- An epic ship quest (should be added to the OP)
However, if you make this ship into an uber quest reward, then you still need to solve the problem of "what will the RAF offer, then?" Like:
For each person you recruit:
- C-Store Points
- Free Game Time [Edit: If you are a lifer already, you should get something else, perhaps additional C-Store Points over an above what a non-lifer gets...just an idea]
Then...
- For recruiting 5 people: In-game title and "item" (like a ship skin or that cannon everybody is going on about)
- For recruiting 10 people: An in-game title and "mount" and/or "item" (like snazzy shuttle with ST: The Final Frontier "rocket boots" (i.e., the ones Spock wore)
Not saying the above is the best solution, but it's an alternative.
If it was my game I would back date for this, however I've heard no official word from Cryptic on this one. A good question. Unfortunately, my gut tells me the answer is going to be "No."
You know, the ship was in one episode out of 28 seasons and 11 movies spanning 43 years, and only appeared for a couple of minutes in that episode. It's not exactly an iconic ship.
Far more iconic than...well, everything else in the game, save the series 'Star' ships (Intrpeid, Galaxy, Defiant, Constitution, Sovereign). And maybe the Miranda.
The referral program only applies to referrals that are conducted through the new referral technology we have set up. I apologize that, due to technical limitations, we are unable to provide retroactive referral bonuses for any referrals that occurred outside of this system.
I don't say this a lot, but... Epic Fail. I really feel for the people who went out of their way to get folks to join the game before now.
ETA: I'm going to go find a bunker, now.
Heh. To be fair though, I don't know of any MMO that ever retroactively gave you recruit-a-friend
credit for handing out your buddy keys. Maybe somebody out there has, but I can't think of any. Which is why I'm not surprised the answer was "No."
I wonder what hoops they will make us go through to get a Nebula and Excelsior.
Excelsior being the most requested judging by these forums...... 5x lifetime subscriptions? 5x referrals that also make 5x referrals each? 5x lifetime subscriptions that in turn get 5x referalls to ..... you get the picture.

Well, this is true. It's just remarkably bad timing, I guess. After seeing the number of people on this thread who had said they'd pretty much already dragged whomever they could into the game, this is not going to make many people happy.
(And I know it's bad of me, but I'm going to be imagining any Galaxy-X in the PvP areas to be called 'Tricobaltbait' after this.)
ETA: ... that is, if there even WILL BE any Galaxy-X's, in the PvP areas or anywhere else for that matter.

I tried to 'refer' people to this game (read: drag in and beg, mostly in late beta), and the only result was one of them reactivating their Eve sub.
The Galaxy X was a specific ship created specifically for the Referral program. The goal with the other end game ships is that they would be unlockable by reaching the next tier level but the specifics of that are still be discussed.
Here's what I know about it so far - The cannon is specific to this ship, and takes the place of a weapon's slot, but is not an item that can be removed and placed on another ship. It shows up as a captain's power on your weapon tray. The beam is intendend to be a very narrow front cylinder beam that can pass through objects and hit multiple targets if you are lined up properly (out to a set distance).
There are no details yet on recharge timers or how it impacts cooldowns of other powers/weapons.
I've also heard rumor that it may have a non-battle cloak - which means that it might be able to cloak - but only out of combat.
Once the designer is finished with the ship - I'll see if I can get the full details.
The ship will be available by the time that your referals hit their first 30 day billing cycle.
also...
Management is aware of this thread ...
OMFG a cloak? Seriously? Doesn't matter i guess since no one is getting 5 people to join but I am sure a few hardcore people with disposable income will buy one.
I couldn't agree more with you. I just started playing a trial of another fairly recent MMO (I won't mention it by name since that wouldn't be fair) that I ended up subbing to, just to fill in some time while waiting for things to do in STO. That game was such a sleeper that it's actually easy for me to get people to come and try it out and maybe purchase it if they end up liking it.
That would happen to be PotBS would it?
I did the same thing with Pirates, and have been having a blast. In fact I think I'll have a few fleetmates playing it as well here soon. Not because of a referral program but because of word-of-mouth about a game that has made vast improvements these past months,is actually very fun and can stand on it's merits.

Lol, not gonna lie, seeing what EvE is bringing in the next few content updates, I've almost considered re-subbing, seen as I'm a lifer here in STO and no longer have an opinion in Cryptics eyes, since they got my money already. The funny thing is, others who are defending Cryptic have said many other MMOs do the same thing, offering rewards to RAF people. The difference is, they offer them for 1 referral, and the item doesn't generally do anything special/game changing.
Anyways, I too would like to see other options to acquire the ship. I used 2 of my buddy passes from the CE, and both friends aren't interested, as are most other friends that play MMOS. The game just isn't in a state for me to recommend it to friends. I have been mostly silent when Cryptic has made other blunders, this is the first time they've raised my ire enough for me to post a few times. I'm not really super PO'ed, just wish there were other ways to get the ship than having to refer and get to subscribe 5 other people.

Back to your regularly scheduled thread.
Actually it's not PotBS, but I may try it out in the future now after reading that. If you really want to know, I was talking about Fallen Earth. It's combat isn't the greatest, but the open sandbox is a great switch after playing here for the past few months and being stuck in constant instances and rarely getting to meet people. I forgot how much fun just going exploring can be! The crafting is incredible and the community is really nice and have a lot of RPers and PvPers which is what I love.
I have a lifetime to STO, so I don't have to worry about picking one and canceling the other. Hopefully it will hold my interest till season 2 or 3 comes and improves the game. Who knows, maybe by that time I'll be able to actually refer someone to come play STO so I can get uber equipment!
I kinda hope so. I signed on for a new Star Trek era, not a TNG/DS9/Voyager Greatest Hits game.
That makes you just about the only one. I personally want them to stop with all the cryptic made up stuff until they have run out of actual Star Trek things.

Remember this every time you are tempted to complain that it's an exclusive. Or, you know, post in such a thread.
have you never seen the enterprise j?

Allow us to REFIT our Starships instead, thank you.
Yep the answer is indeed, "No." Not surprising.

Figures, Cryptic doesn't surprise me much anymore, with the stuff they do from time to time. LOL
Oh my, not even Friday yet. Hmmmm wonder what they will cook up then?

I can see the Warship Voyager stuff being a C-Store thing or something they never include, as it was a fictional depiction of Voyager anyway.
I think the uber-exclusive Voyager counterpart would be this.

STO = Best thing to ever happen for EvE
