sounds like an emergency patch time. im stuck too. the latest patch to the patch screwed things up!
No it was fine earlier - I was playing about an hour ago. My guess is the servers are getting heavy traffic as everyone logs in to check out the new patch content.
I have the same problem, loaded game up, char list came up fine (that time) got in game went to a system and took 8 min to load with server not responding at the top, did that mission went to exit the system, and got stuck, waited 20min (didnt wanna budge) so i exited and restarted sto, now im stuck at char retrieval
I don't think it's an error, I think its a server crashing.... Because I was in game trying to organize my bags so I could get off to adventuring, and after I noticed nothing was being removed from my bag to bank, I figured it was probably similar glich as when you buy a new bridge officer and it wont let you access it until you relog. So I tried to change instances to see if that would fix it and got stuck in loading, so relogged and now stuck in the same spot
Same here. It's also not timing out, etc.. I left, came back about 5 minutes or so later, and it was still on 'retrieving'. The only way out is to dump the game client via task manager.
Same here, game had massive lag when I was in earlier today, I couldn't retrieve mail attachments or even sell items. I managed to do two Explore missions then the game hung on the black screen (with the combadge logo) when exiting to sector, with the red "Server Not Responding" message.
I've tried logging in twice since, and the game just hangs on the "Retrieving List of Characters" screen. I never had these problems before yesterday's patch. This sucks. :mad:
I dont think its the populace I think they broke something which is limiting their ability to hold traffic. they should be anylyzing the issue and hopefully gettign it fixed. If it was huge traffic/populace issues im sure they would have announced that right away.

Unlike most of you who just post complaints in a forum thread, I logged a ticket. If everyone did that it should get their attention, if they are not already aware of the issue.
I just checked in with our EXPERTS in this, and wanted to drop in and give you all a brief explaination to the best of my knowledge on the subject:
We're having a few hiccups on the servers - they're perfectly stable in a traditional sense in that we don't seem to be at any risk of crashing, or anything like that.
These "hiccups" are very short in duration, and should only have the effect of preventing you from logging in for the brief duration they are occuring. If you face these issues, give it maybe a minute or two and try logging in again; you shouldn't find yourself "locked out" so to speak for very long.
They're back. I had just found a really nice torpedo launcher as a random drop at the end of a mission when everything locked up. When I logged back in, the mission was already completed and I was in sector space. ;_;
