Yes. I'm pro a reasonable death penalty.

    My preference:

Restart of encounter or partial mission in case of dying, no respawn until all group members are dead in party action and restart from encounter / partial mission as well.

Everything else being a motivational optional.

this needs more imput than just yes/no...

    do I want ...
    - to lose ships, BO, equipment: NO
    - equipment degradation (WoW style DP): NO, because its pointless, its just a time sink.
    - a hit to my pride when I die: YES (already "implemented")
    - encounters to reset: YES
    - the risk of losing something: NO (I already have that in the real world enough, this is a game, I want to relax)
    - a mechanism that prohibits death zerging: YES
    - something that encourages staying alive: YES (a not dieing reward)
    - any form of death penalty in deep space encounters: heck NO, being spawn camped is enough penalty already

/\/\This is really the level of detail something like this needs, agreed. Also matches my opinion exactly.

Yes, i absolutely support a meaningful DP in STO.

I also support item decay and a dedicated crafting system :)

    This.

And. No. No death penalty in STO for me, thank you.

You are missing the point, this poll is to count amongst forum members, if they want a DP or they want things to remain as the system currently is. Do they prefer the status quo or not? This is why I limited it to a yes/no response.

Yes in PvE: something to help us care about whether we live or die. Right now, there's no motivation.

Yes but only temporary debuff in PvP. So if I destroy someone's ship, I don't want it spawning in after a few seconds again with full shields. Give a debuff for no shields and limited power levels for a minute at least (or something similar). And make spawn points in PvP random please. Tired of the spawn campers, and tired of being tempted to retaliate by sinking to that level.

Why did you start the thread then? Cryptic frown on "polls" for anything.

We all know about the "defend" misssion bug where you can sometimes spawn into a fleet of hostile ships?, well it is a perfect example why the game needs a DP.

If the game had a DP that particular mission bug would have been fixed long before beta testing finished but cos all we do is respawn after 15 secs at least once if not more and then carry on nobody gives a TRIBBLE.

Now imagine if the game had actually gone live with a DP and that bug, the forums would be full of posts demanding a fix.......but again with no DP nobody gives a TRIBBLE.

The fact is that everybody who got nailed in that instance once or more on entry then respawned with a shrug and carried on has now zerged whether they like it or not or realised it or not.............i know i did now i think about it and i never thought to bother making a post about a fix cos without a DP i did not give a TRIBBLE.

Now i hate lazy play and adore the most difficult of hardcore games so if having no DP can change my attitude so subtly without me realizing it until now then i know it must have effected others as well.

I am now being extra careful that it does not effect my style play in other missions cos like i say the effect is veeeery subtle, but its there and its a real danger to those who wish to have skilled game play if you do not notice it.

This is why we need better definitions... agreement with Smeissi is, by some people's definitions, a "yes" vote, but you obviously consider it a "no" (as do I). With the unclear distinctions, a binary survey is meaningless.

Then make your own poll with more clarity and meaning. ;)
