Yes. I'm tired of people citing the most extreme examples to shout down any suggestion of a DP.
It's not just the anti-DP side that does that.
It doesn't help that people draw the line in a different place.
I consider the term "death penalty" to only apply to a debuff or loss of resources rather than a spawn or mission reset. Under my definition, I oppose adding death penalties to STO because the game is not designed for them and not designed well enough to make them apply only when people TRIBBLE up*.
On the other hand, I think that NPC spawns that aren't fully eliminated already should respawn when you do and that respawn while grouped should be suppressed until full wipe. The latter requires death in space to be changed to disablement rather than ship explosion (which I also hate passionately) with a 'rez' ability being added to space as there is in ground.
*Actually, the current design is such that TRIBBLE up is probably the least common reason for death. Mission PvE varies from easy to trivial most of the time - to the extent that I have gotten up from the computer while under fire and returned without dying - as opposed to situations like DSE spawncamping and the absurdity of the Crystalline Entity's shard spam.
You should consider believing Craig Zinkievich of Cryptic instead of attacking someone while making up your own bull TRIBBLE numbers (and failing to see the obvious hypocrisy in doing so too).
He said it in this video.. Interview starts at the 19 minute mark. For the 1% Admiral fact, start listening at the 24 minute mark:
Death Penalties are an anachronism that bring nothing to the table, they are a mechanic of old that are not needed in todays mmos that have moved on from such defunct unecessary concepts.
Have you played STO lately? There are no 1%, there are at least 20-30% Admirals.... dont believe numbers you didnt fake yourself.
Yes Cryptic has confirmed before the interview was 1% and they are the controling minority, after the stupid DP is added these people will be right back here complaining about the thing they always had the problem with content, it is really awesome a stupid tedious DP is getting high priority when conten is the issue and will be after the DP is added, these elitist, likely the zerg crowd too, will not care or be affected and just find the next exploit and complain till the game is a grind fest like most MMOs that devs listen to the forums.
Thanks for TRIBBLE up a fast paced game that could have been improved but will die 3 to 6 months after this non-sense.

Long answer: HELL NO.
39 Unique Pro-dp players.
49 Unique Anti-dp players.
*I may not have counted perfectly so there may be a small margin of error.. If you can do better than please post your own results.
NecroBones did not make a choice either way I could see and was not counted.
Edit in - I also did not know OP's position and did not count him as well.
Except we know these results will be cited as proof later...
And no.

That is exactly where I got the 1% fact from. Actually by just saying 1% I was being nice. Craig's exact words were...
.... as of 3 days ago the people who had reached Admiral not Admiral 45, but Admiral mind you, less than 1% of the active players in the game.
Thanks Asakara for providing the link. I probably should have provided it before.

No Dp
I like a challenge. I like the risk of losing something.
Heck, with DP escorts (like myself) will be less willing to head in first, but instead will play more cautiously, IMO.
That sounded kinky.
and i would suggest a -20% for maybe 2 min all over power as the punishment to prevent wanna be escort ships from tanking.

Just NO.
