If anyone ever asks why you should be the leader of TRIBBLE, just show them this video, slap on your aviators, and scream YEAHHHHHHH directly into their face, because this owns so hard I think STO might technically belong to you now.
IDK, can a dev weigh in on that?
Yes there are kids playing this game. If you don't mind them killing but they can't cuss or know where babies come from, maybe you need to reprioritize, bro.
I know the words. I don't come to play video games to hear them. You can see violence like that you are speaking of on prime time television. You don't see or hear the kinds of comments that were made though. I am a big boy and I know the words, but the idea is the game is supposed to be an environment free of harassment. By your logic I should send some pornographic pictures and emails to members of your family or loved ones. I mean, heck they've heard the words and seen these things before right? And well they've seen a Tom and Jerry cartoon so they know all about violence, we may as well let em know all about sexual harassment while we are at it!
An important fact you seem to be forgetting: Violence is part of this game, like it or not, but griefing and sexual harassment is against the rules. These are rules you are knowingly violating. Save your treatises on the woes of society and the priorities of Western civilization, this isn't a place for political statements. The rules were broken. It doesn't matter if you like them, it's the facts.
Bottom line: I think a group of people that finds joy in making others miserable are the ones who need to reprioritize "bro". It's sad that people have whatever pain or emptiness in their life that the way they get joy is by making others upset or ruining their fun.

Mike seems to nor recognize that the reason he was there in the first place is his own fault. Boo-hoo Why not save you whining for the right place like the tons of gold merchants who are ruining MY IMMERSION by constantly sending messages about selling energy credits.
Sorry you were inconvenienced for putting yourself in a situation. that was entirely your fault. Have a nice day.

By your logic we should drop Hitler Bombs on the worlds sunshine supply, after all, everyone knows what its like without sunshine. And we've seen the history channel so we know all about mean people, we may as well let em know all about the Massacre of Thessalonica while we're at it!!
Why don't you apply this to real life, where it CAN make a difference, rather than a virtual world where nobody knows you, or cares who you are? I'm probably coming off as a jerk (I wanted to use stronger language, but people are getting in trouble for random things in here), but seriously...your priorities are F***ED.
I'm trying to remember -- it's late -- somebody said I was a ginormous nerd or something several posts back, and you're telling me that my priorities aren't straight. What were we talking about again -- some topic I can't remember... priorities?... weight-gain? I forget.
Your logic is flawless "Godholio", if someone walks down the street at night and is mugged, it's their fault they were walking down the street? Last I checked the mugger would be at fault for that. I'm not going to "check threads" all over just to learn about some morons harrassing other players, I'm going to spend my time playing the game or doing something else, not reading through internet forums. And for the record, I wasn't "fooled", I didn't accept the invite both times I received it. But I am aware of what went on, and I enjoy this game. It's in its infancy, but a lot of the groundwork and ideas are there for an awesome game. That said, it's not gonna get there without players being drawn in. New players do not likely even know what "the bridge" is all about, are unaware that they can be killed on a bridge (I didn't know bridges could be used like that at all until recently), and that such a thing as this could happen to them and keep them from playing for as long as their harrassers feel like keeping it up. Compound this with their attackers shouting things like "SUCK MY TRIBBLE LULZ" (which I'm sure violates terms of usage regardless), and you have a recipe to keep a lot of new players from wanting to bother. The attitude of "well they shouldn't be stupid enough to be exploited" is one I hope Cryptic doesn't echo, because it's not gonna be good for the game's lifespan.
soyesterday some goonies started inviting kllingons onto their bridge and killing them so they couldn't leave, because when they spawned theyd just be stuck back on the bridge so they couldn't leave.
They do, indeed, need to do something...like give them medals, or maybe a special title. I'm no goon, but I think those guys are hilarious. Honestly, the goons are great for finding bugs that need fixing in game, and they provide some of the greatest stories to tell too. Go goons!

tl;dr
No seriously, did you just compare an internet spaceship game to assault and robbery in real life?
I just have to wonder how many of the folks applauding this behavior are really just hoping STO crashes and burns because it's a silly game for silly people and they want to get back to Eve Online where gaming is Serious Business.
While playing Star Trek Online it is against the game policy to intentionally disrupt the game play of other players.
While Playing Star Trek Online You May Not:
* Block Mobs, Doors, Node, Etc
* Spam excessive effects
* Interfere with player-run events
* Interfere with player gatherings
* Intentionally exploit game bugs
* Utilize third-party programs to automate unattended game-play
* Disobey instructions given by a Cryptic Game Master
If characters are found in violation of this policy it may lead to disciplinary actions against the offending account. This could include suspension from the game or possibly account termination.
And that should be the end of that. If it's not, then we don't have problems with the Goons but with Cryptic.
No seriously, did you just compare an internet spaceship game to assault and robbery in real life?
EDIT: Free Arus
No, I compared the logic of blaming the victim in a more severe real life instance to the logic of blaming the victim in a computer game. If you fail to see the common thread of blaming victims and absolving offenders being ridiculous, that's not my fault. Bottom line, you wanna mess around and do goofy things? That's great, I mess around in games more often than I do serious stuff a lot of the time. One of the reasons I wish STO had more character slots was so I could make goofy gag characters. But when you are luring other players into being stuck in a room getting killed for an indeterminate amount of time (and ESPECIALLY when you are taunting them and laughing at their attempts to get out and resume playing while blocking the exit), you have crossed a line. You are keeping people from being able to actually play and enjoy themselves. Whatever odd fun you're having is at the expense of the fun of other players. Just because some are amused and don't care doesn't mean everyone's going to have a grand old time being stuck in one place getting killed. Some would actually like to say, play a computer game with their friends.
I just have to wonder how many of the folks applauding this behavior are really just hoping STO crashes and burns because it's a silly game for silly people and they want to get back to Eve Online where gaming is Serious Business.
Same exact thing just happened to me. And yes you can't get to the door when there are 30 people shooting you the second you respawn and you just die again. And they were shouting stupid things about teeth and caring for them. odd, makes me think you may have been involved. Luckily I saved the combat log so all I need to do is cross reference character names.
Nope it wasn't about "pain and suffering" its about people who feel manly by harassing people trying to play a game. Why people get off on ruining other peoples enjoyment is beyond me. Actually the griefing didn't bother me so much as the sexually harassing comments (the toon is female) which made my girlfriend who was watching decide not to play anymore.
It's a new game that having new players harassed is not the way to win them over.
Welcome to an MMO that has goonfleet in it.
This is what they do.
Here's the thing. We players can't hurt the Goons. Yell all you want and they just laugh more. This is what they do. Everything's a joke and anyone who doesn't understand that is the punchline. They are what they are. A force of nature. And the fact some of the egos they puncture deserve it only gives them a Robin Hood, by way of Monty Python, veneer to many despite all the problems they cause.
However, Cryptic's representing itself as one thing to the players, they 'get it' and they're fans of Star Trek and they care about their players and have rules to protect them, and if they're not going to enforce that players can spread the word and advertise this. That can sting a bit.
So if people want to get this kind of behavior knocked off they have to focus on what's actually possible here. Use Cryptic's rules to rein in bad behavior and then beat Cryptic over the head with them if they fail to do so.
That was my intent completely. I don't actually hope to reason with these people, just call Cryptic's attention to something that can be detrimental to the growth of a game I enjoy. Let's do a rundown of what these fellas have broken, and this is just from what I know, going over some of the logs might dredge up more.
CHAT RULES:
To ensure that Star Trek Online is a fun, fair, and safe environment, there are a few basic guidelines that all users are required to abide by in-game when communicating with other players.
In-Game Chat May Not Contain:
* Language which may be considered offensive to any real-world demographics, including race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, and ethnicity (<- this one)
* Reference to extreme or violent sexual acts (<- this one)
* Profanity or inappropriate language (<- this one)
* References to participation in illegal real world activities (i.e. drugs, violence)
* Advertisements for real-world products or websites
* Spamming
* Real life information regarding another user (address, phone number, real name, etc)
* Intent to scam another player (<- possibly? The whole inviting people to a klingon bridge to find it full of dudes from the other side killing them might count, but that's really something we'd throw to the game show judges)
BEHAVIOR RULES:

That makes 5, possibly 6 of these rules broken just from what I know of what went on. I'm sure seeing rules they broke will just give them a public schooler giggle, but the intended audience is Cryptic. Furthermore, the mention that a GM SANCTIONED this stuff? Something needs to be done about that, post haste, probably a clarification or correction of some kind. Not catching them is one thing, but when they are telling their detractors a company representative approved it? That can lead to bad word getting spread, and again, my interest is in this game prospering.

Im NOT on the Goon's side lol
The GMs are though, and thats a bad thing. Im beginning to think either I was right and one of the devs is Mittani, OR theyre so panicked about having lost most of their subs, theyre pandering to the Goons becaus theyre a large group, not realizing they arent gonna resub
all of you guys asking for starfleet dental to be banned from the game are violating the rule against interfering with player-run events, you are obviously sociopaths and will be hearing from my lawyer
