I just wanted to share my 360 control file. It's a little different from what's been posted so far, but I'm finding it works really well for me.

I tried to focus "engineering" tasks on the left side of the controller (LT and D pad) while "tactical" stuff is focused on the right side of the controller.

    Here's how it goes:

    left thumbstick = steer
click left thumbstick = center camera
right thumbstick = camera (make sure set to free camera in settings)
click right thumbstick = zoom camera (its default setting)
    start button = interact
back button = scan for anomalies

    left bumper = decrease speed
    right bumper = increase speed
left and right bumper together = full impulse

d-pad up = power to front shields
d-pad down = power to rear shields
d-pad right = power to right shields
d-pad left = power to left shields
left trigger + back = equalize power

left trigger + d-pad up = power to attack
left trigger + d-pad down = power to defense
left trigger + d-pad right = power to speed
left trigger + d-pad left = power to balance

left trigger + right bumper = target enemy
left trigger + left bumper = target last enemy

right trigger + left bumper = fire all weapons

    x = hotbar 1
    y = hotbar 2
    a = hotbar 3
    b = hotbar 4
    lt + x = hotbar 5
    lt +y = hotbar 6
    lt +a = hotbar 7
    lt +b = hotbar 8

    rt + x = hotbar 1b
    rt +y = hotbar 2b
    rt +a = hotbar 3b
    rt +b = hotbar 4b
    rt + dpad up = hotbar 5b
    rt + dpad right = hotbar 6b
    rt + dpad down = hotbar 7b
    rt + dpad left = hotbar 8b

    Here's the file:

thank you soo much! another thought to do on this for you do-it-yourselfers and those of you who are familiar with the champions layout already, reverse the flight controls on up/down. Use free camera w/ Left and Right sticks to fly, bind your number pad (joypad_left, right, up, or down) with up and down as speed, right as interact with interface, and left being tab for targeting. Start is Full impulse, Back is fire all weapons, leaves your triggers and bumpers free for modifiers on your x,y,b,a. You can map 20 slots this way, or 16 if you use 4 for your power modifier.

I don't seem to b able to alter commands manually either

Are you using the wired pad? i just plugged in and it auto downloaded and installed. Have you checked in game options and put a tick/dot in xbox pad box under the controls tab.

I've got everything working very nicely in space but am having one final issue. To be able to look around with my camera with the right stick I need to have free camera on. I like the camera to follow my target, but when I use that my right stick does nothing. Is there a way I can have my camera lock on my target allowing me to look around using my right stick?

I'm using the rev4 bindings posted on page 10 of this thread.

Yea you can, leave the camera controls set to free, but bind one of you pad buttons to toggle targetlock , i use right stick click/joy4.

    Hey folks,

Was wondering if anybody out there with a better understanding of binds might be able to help out here. I've tried out a few of the posted space builds, without much functionality success. It just seems like between my BO's and captain powers at VA there is just too much to try to map out for any ease of use.

    any suggestions?

I've read alot of this and still don't know what the rules are for xbox 360 controller in game usage.

I have a wireless controller with a charging cable plugged in and drivers installed. Will this not work? I've yet to get anything to work.

Could you please post an updated current version of the keybinds with a how to.

The Xpadder was $9.99 and I don't want to buy it so is there another option?

    Thank you.

Can we are alot use our Xbox 360 headset and voice over the controller too?

two years after helping to start this thread, and real controller support has not been added yet?! Cryptic, you have GOT to be kidding!

here I am, manually binding commands in the chat window again. Really makes returning to see the improvements in free to play not seem like it's worth the effort...

    1) copy the bind file to the ...\Live directory
    2) in the chat window type /bind_load_file filename
    and you are done?

If you have a question about how do you know which keys map to which functions; that I am still working out myself :)

To get the second stick to "look" around like when you have the mouse button pressed:

    Joystick2_Up "+CamMouseLook"
    Joystick2_Right "+CamMouseLook"
    Joystick2_Left "+CamMouseLook"
    Joystick2_Down "+CamMouseLook"

While I don't use the 360 controller I do use the logitech dual action controller, and have it set up with like this:

First the buttons on the Dual action are a little different from the 360 but it's easy to get used to.

    Button 1 = Ab
    Button 2 = Bb
    Button 3 =Xb
    Button 4 =Yb

Other than that all the others are the same as on the 360.

Now onto my mappings, After reading the first part of this thread to learn basic mapping I discovered the following works best for me:

I use the 3 X 10 layout divided into 5 slots each using the X, Y, A and B buttons in their respective slots, and the Right joystick button as a 5th button, that way I can hit any attack or power with my right thumb, I set it up so the Trigger and shoulder buttons work the same way as control and alt do on the keyboard, right ones controlling the 2nd and 3rd lines of slots.

You may wonder, but what about the right side of the first line, which is normally activated by the left trigger. Easy, I remapped the left stick button to activate those. So I have 6 5 button sectors to choose from.

I also set my select button to activate my scanner, the Start button is the interact button. Throttle control is done by the D-pad, forward for faster, back for slower, left for full impulse., right activates fire all for Phasers, Torpedoes, or all weapons depending on if you hit X, Y or B

Now I changed the mappings on the left stick to allow turning, and pitch with that stick. and because of my play style have the cam set to chase cam, and have any option that selects tab target style targeting turned off so my only attacking is done line of sight. It's just me but I can't stand tab targeting or "selected" targeting because it can switch targets on you, or get you attacking an unintentional target, but that's just me.

    Here's the mappings:

    Joystick2_Left "+left"
    Joystick2_Right "+right"
    Joypad_Up "throttleadjust .25"
    Joypad_Down "throttleadjust -.25"
    Joypad_Left "GenSendMessage Throttle_FullImpulse_Button FullThrottle"

    Rb+yb "UseTrayslot2 6"
    Rb+bb "UseTrayslot2 7"

Heya peoples... I figured this may help out a little. I have an 11 button joystick, a Logitech Attack 3. I took some time after noticing a discrepancy with the game's designations of my buttons when I tried binding them. I created a "translation" matrix in text format after finding out that for some physical buttons, the game shows a different number for them.

I also will include some instructions for those who are new to the thread, how to bind the keys, using my configuration as an example.

BTW... make sure you have the region drop menu on Space, or simply be IN space while binding.

Joy Button - Xbox - (Game Designation)

    1 - Ab
    2 - Bb
    3 - Xb (11)
    4 - yb (12)
    5 - Lb
    6 - Rb
    7 - Ltrigger
    8 - Rtrigger
9 - Rstick (4) - I did reassign Right Stick using the controller options in the game menu to button 9
10- Lstick (3) - I did reassign Left Stick using the controller options in the game menu to button 10

(Xb reads as Joy11 but is physically button 3)
(Yb reads as Joy12 but is physically button 4)

(Lstick reads as Joy3 but initially assigned to button 11)
(Rstick reads as Joy4 but initially has no assigned key)

To bind the buttons, go to the chat menu and type in the key bind commands... I will type out the commands as I did in game to configure my stick. You can try it with my config, or sub for your own.

The Formula: /bind (command) Ab (example button) GenSendMessage HUD_Root FirePhasers (game code)

Can also just copy and paste instead of typing...lol.

    Fire All Phasers, type:
    /bind Ab GenSendMessage HUD_Root FirePhasers

    Fire All Torpedoes, type:
    /bind Xb GenSendMessage HUD_Root FireTorps

    Fire All Weapons, type:
    /bind GenSendMessage HUD_Root FireAll

    Throttle Forward, type:
    /bind Rb throttleadjust .25

    Throttle Back, type:
    /bind Ltrigger throttleadjust -.25

    Throttle Toggle, type:
    /bind Rtrigger throttletoggle

And for Space skill tray row 2, I assigned these buttons and placed my most used skills into the slots reassigned to the joystick's buttons 4, 5 and 10. (the actual buttons mind you.)

Skill Tray Second Row #1, type:
    /bind Yb UseTraySlot1 0

Skill Tray Second Row #2, type:
    /bind Lb UseTraySlot1 1

Skill Tray Second Row #3, type:
    /bind Lstick UseTraySlot1 2

I've been using the following set up for space combat and it's been working fairly well, despite needing a few tweaks. However, I've now hit 25 and have rolled a klingon, and this setup seems to work except for the left and right triggers. They aren't firing my phasers and/or torpedos. I would also like to thank the posters who've shared their configs from which I've borrowed to make this. I would name names, but I honestly don't recall them.

you haven't bound anything to the left or right trigger on its own or for that matter anything that will fire phasers or torps except Joy8+Joy5 "GenSendMessage HUD_Root FireAll", which means you have to press joy5and 8 together to fire all ?

    try adding in:

    Joy8 "gensendmessage HUD_root firephasers"
    Joy8+joy7 "gensendmessage hud_root firetorps"

which will let Phasers fire on the right trigger and torps if you press both left and right together.

your syntax is wrong... for target Friend

    which is

"Target_Friend_Near" or "Target_Friend_Next" not Friendly as you have in your bind script.

Thanks much. Wonder why the left and right trigger commands are missing, yet working on my federation ship. I added them in again, thanks for the heads up on that. :)

Don't suppose you know the bind command to allow jumping when on ground missions? I've tried the obvious, but have failed; probably more bad syntax like above.
