Daniel Leary , Reapublic of Cinabar navy, IKS PIN'GIN , hegh'ta class BoP, name from der kreigsmarine hilfskreuser pingin german commerce raider of WW2, when I get aroung to it I will name my b'rell kormorran after the only raider of WW2 to sink a warship in combat, RANS. Sidney
USS Astray - Akira
USS Freedom - Gryphon
USS Falcon - Peregrine (just pushed for a random name, made sense for the nippy fighter to be named after a bird of prey)
USS Epyon - MVAM Prometheus
USS Zeta - Defiant R
USS Marasai - Emissary
USS Justice - Sovereign
USS Legend - Galaxy dreadnought
USS Stargazer - Intrepid R
USS Yamato - Shuttle, named after the titular vessel from Space Battleship Yamato
Others which I cant remember atm.
All vessels named after mecha from the Gundam series', unless stated otherwise.
A fellow Gundam Otaku!!!
Always fun to meet someone who shares my interests.
I have a Peregrine as well, but I think I named mine after either the Strike Gundam or one of the Skygraspers.
I have 4 ships so far. They are named:
1. Strongbow - Initial light cruiser
2. Newcastle - Delta-class
3. Franziskaner - Constitution class (TOS-type)
4. Guinness - Constitution class (Motion Picture-type)
...I'll give you ONE guess where all the names came from.
A collosal squid / octopus like creature whose arms would wrap around the sails and hull of ships, sinking them and drowning their crews.
Not so unlike My Gal X Dreadnought. Her Blue Arms of Light thrown out at the enemy (Tet Beams) Stripping them of their shields and ripping their hulls to death most violently
I read an article on the first American tank to enter Bastone during WW2 breaking the German blockade.
The tank was named "Cobra King." A historian found the tank in Europe as a monument or gate guard. Apparenty, the US Army decided to reclaim "Cobra King." It was shipped back to the USA after 60+ years. It is or will be put on display in a museum. I'm on my third Cobra King. I'll probably think of another name for my next ship.
I adopted the USS Dauntless from Bridge Commander after I hit Captain, I've also adopted the crew from that awesome game. Took some doing and I had to buy Chief Brex from the exchange but it gives a feeling of continuity. For Tribble, I used a previous Captain of the Dauntless, Leland Bell, as my test toon.
Because somewhere mine was lost in the ocean of posts here, here are some of my most memorable ship names.
U.S.S. Kindjal (Excelsior Class) - Drew influence from the Dune: Butlerian Jihad trilogy. The Kindjal was an attack fighter. Thought the name was cool. Later on, learned that the Kindjal is a curved, dual edged dagger originating from Russia.
U.S.S. Demeter (Kitbash Assault Cruiser) - Named after the ship that transported Count Dracula to London in the famous Bram Stoker novel.
U.S.S. Trinculo (Galaxy X Dreadnought) - Named after a character from William Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. Also, the only canon (soft cannon) name I could find that was unused and actually made sense with the naming conventions of that class.
U.S.S. Saskatchewan (Runabout) - Runabouts are named after rivers. So I named one after the river that runs through my home province. I've also used other river themes for my shuttles, pick Canadian rivers (Frazier, St. Lawerence, Mackenzie, etc).
U.S.S. Shovelface (Maelstrom Class Escort) - My Crystalline Entity busting starship. Frankly, I think the Fleet Escorts all look like shovels. *L*
U.S.S. Tycho Brahe (Nova Class Science Vessel) - Named after a Danish Nobleman turned medieval astronomer.
U.S.S. Von Braun (Olympic Class Research Vessel) - If you haven't heard of the TRIBBLE superscientist and rocket specialist that helped with the NASA space program, then you must have lived under a rock! *L* But seriously, I drew the idea from a starship in another videogame. This time, it's System Shock 2.
U.S.S. Steerpike (Akira Class Heavy Escort) - Named after the main antagonist in the 'Ghormenghast' series of novels.
U.S.S. Ratel (Defiant Refit) - Ratel is the Boer name for the South African Honey Badger. True to its name.
U.S.S. Kabuki (Delta Flyer) - Named after Japanese dance drama plays, but the reality is mine's more of a homage to one of my favorite old school Nintendo games, Kabuki Quantum Fighter.
I.K.S. All In! (Bird of Prey) - This Bird of Prey is piloted by a Orion pirate and notorious gambler. For most of his ships I've used gambling terms (Royal Flush, Stacked Deck, etc). But for a ganking, cannon heavy BoP, All In seemed an appropriate name.
I.K.S. Painbringer (K't'inga Class Cruiser) - The K't'inga is one of my favorite designs (T5 please?). And of course I love the old FASA Starship Tactical Combat Simulator. Painbringer was originally FASA's designated name for the D-7A, the first model from Kirk's era.
I.K.S. Throne Seeker (Karfi Carrier) - Named after another FASA ship, this time the Throne Seeker class assault ship.
I.K.S. Swiftwind (Vor'cha Class Cruiser) - You guessed it, another FASA ship. This time named after a Klingon Destroyer class in the FASA game.
I.K.S. Stingtongue (Negh'var Class Cruiser) - My last FASA inspired name. This time I took the name off one of the most notorious photon torpedo boats in the FASA Star Trek game, known for it's hitting power despite its small size.
Ifni is a pseudo-religious figure from the Uplift series of novels. Effectively a combination of Lady Luck and Murphy. The name comes from a truncation of the word Infinity.
U.S.S. Centaur (centaur class) & U.S.S. Centaurus (MVA) - Captain Charlie Reynolds <-- RP Canon fan, guess what character from what show Reny is from? - Also Centaurus is from Greek Mythology
U.S.S. Hawker Tempest (Fleet Escort) Captain Quantus Magnus --> ship named after a WWII experimental fighter plane
U.S.S. King's Ambition (MVA) Captain Quantus Magnus ---> You Anime fans should know the term and from what anime
U.S.S. Johannes Kepler (Nebula Class) - Captain Inara Oda --> You astrology historians should know the name
U.S.S. Aegis (Defiant Class) Captain Rozhenko ---> Named after a shield from Greek mythology
U.S.S. Hyperion (Luna Class) Captain Dr. Hawkeye Pierce ---> Again you astrology buffs should know that one
U.S.S. Renewed Valor - Captain K'itt M'Phisto ----> come on, you Gene Roddenberry fan should know what ship name from what sci fi series the Renewed valor is from
U.S.S. Litany of Fury - Captain Tyrannus ----> The most well known vessel from a very popular table top game
USS Altair, an Homage to Forbidden Planet USS Aquila, contellation that Altair resides in, logo taken from PHM-4 USS Aquila USS Odin. was going to use Thor, but i saw one or two floating around out there.. My Nebula is the USS Frizbee
It was random but explains it all as I am in northern Canada and the USS Ranger just seemed to fit...Interestingly enough the fleet I was invited to join and joined is the Federation Rangers...Go Figure...lol
U.S.S. Cannonball (Prometheus) - because i like to shoot at things and its equipped with powerful cannons.
U.S.S. Pathfinder (Defiant) - took the name from the pathfinder ep from ST:V
If your toon is basically a big lolcat, what other name fits?
Human Eng VA Jacob Nguyen -- USS Kamehameha
I used to live in Hawaii and all of Jacob's ship names have been in some way connected to it. Kamehameha was the name of the first major Hawaiian king, who united all the islands around 1795. However, Jacob's *surname* is the same as my physician's, who treated me during a very serious disease and probably saved my life.
Betazoid Sci VA Bill Nye the Science Guy -- USS Mewling Prig
Wife had a flash of inspiration. It was either "Mewling Prig" or "Star B***h," and I figured I couldn't get away with the second one.
Joined Trill CAPT Dixie Normous (wife's toon) -- USS Version Mismatch
Galaxy-class exploration cruiser USS South Dakota (after historical BB-57)
Cheyenne-class heavy cruiser USS Washington (after historical BB-56)
Constitution-class cruiser USS Marta Rosa (after a dear RL friend who passed away on the line of duty - one of Portugal's first policewomen which I helped to train. She filled my life with worry as she emailed me lots of stories about gunfights with street gangs!)
Star cruiser (diplomatic vessel in RP) USS Madame Alexander (makes sense only to me as I'm saving up this year to buy a Madame Alexander doll)
Klingon - just started playing that faction so no memorable ship names yet. I may start naming them after Klingon famous canon ships once I purchase that Orion CLV (that's flight deck cruiser to you non SFC / naval fans)
I named mine "InvalidEntity" after the guy who appeared in space PvP as his ground avatar (it was lol) his ship name was displayed as "InvalidEntityName" but its one letter too long, so i went with the short version.
Comments

U.S.S. HAIDA -GALAXY X- WWII CANADIAN TRIBAL CLASS DESTROYER

Merlin fan...need any more of an explanation?
U.S.S. Excalibur
Again, Merlin...
U.S.S. Yamato
After the Galaxy class starship from Star Trek The Next Generation: Contagion.
I'm also thinking about naming one the U.S.S. Argonaut, named after the H.M.S. Argonaut that my grandad served on in WW2.
From The Rocky Horror Show and Shock Treatment.
1. Strongbow - Initial light cruiser
2. Newcastle - Delta-class
3. Franziskaner - Constitution class (TOS-type)
4. Guinness - Constitution class (Motion Picture-type)
...I'll give you ONE guess where all the names came from.
