    For a new PC you don't want a 8800 GT. it's a 3 year old card. Here's a list of today's video cards

    Graphic Gaming cards:
    Entry level:
    ATI HD 4650 and 4670 cards only needs a 400 W PSU.
    Nvidia Geforce GT 240 needs a 350 W PSU
    Nvidia Geforce 9600 GT needs a 400 W PSU.
All four of these cards usually do not need a 6 pin PCIE cable. Always check the box for system requirements.
STO Gaming level med. Price ranges on these cards are under $100.00. The ATI's usually a better choice here on a price/performance.

    Mid Level:
ATI HD 4850,4890, 5750, 5770 and the Nvidia 9800 GT, 9800 GTX, GTS 250 needs a 450 to 500 W PSU with one 6 pin PCIE cable. Always check the box for system requirements.
STO Gaming level High. Price Range: $100-230.00.

    High End:
    ATI HD 5850, 5870, 5970. Nvidia GTX 260, 275, 295 needs a 550 to 750 W PSU with two 6 pin or 1 6pin and 1 8 pin PCIE cables. Always check the box for system requirements.
STO Gaming level Very High. Price Range: $250.00-600.00.

Are you building or buying? Any other questions?

What's your price range? If you can afford it I'd suggest at least a GT 240/9800GT

If you're looking at a couple cards and trying to decide, search for the model (ex ctrl+F, type GTS 250) on here and compare. Higher is better

Might be worth noting that most cards that require the 6 pin cable come with an adapter for 2xMOLEX (4 pin) to PCIE 6 pin

If you're buying it from a place like Dell or HP (or staples, etc), it's usually better to get the absolute minimum video card and then buy a card separately. If you're ok with $200 on the card, get

    GTS 250 for $140
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130440 (There's a 512mb version, but it's only $5 less

    Radeon 5770 $165

GTX 260 c216 $185 (bleh I paid $330 for this back in the day)

Best value for your money is probably the GTS 250. White Knight and I are both getting great performance with it. I'll know more about the 260 on this game when I get mine back next week

For that price range I go would AMD over Intel. More bang for the buck. Intel's i7 is the king right now but are really expense. Intel now has their new i3 but the AMD Phenom II are better.

    Check out Newegg
    http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=10&name=Desktop-PCs

    or CyberPower

Just make sure the power supply will support your video card or you may need to replace it. Usually manufacture only give you a 300 W PSU. But you can get a 500 W for around $50.00.

If you can get an i5 for around that price, get it... they rate 10-15% above the mid to low model phenom II's in actual games.

Also, don't spend less than $50 on a PSU, EVER.

Did that once building a system on commission, ended up with a 6" CPU power connector and I needed 8". It probably wouldn't have lasted long anyways.

HP's are usually pretty spacious inside, but be careful if you get a 260... those cards are massive. I had to remove one of my hard drive mounting clips to fit it in my case ><

It's actually good to have that 9100 in there... You'll have it disabled most of the time, but it means if your main card ever fails, you can still use the computer while you're replacing it.

Make sure you get one with two PCIE power connectors for the 260... Prebuilt systems usually have something like 390-450w, which would do in a pinch for a 500w card but it may be unstable and eventually burn out. The card itself usually only needs 100-150w, but the manufacturers want to play it safe.

I agree with you completely. I should had added on sales and "80 Plus" certify. I have seen OCZ, Antec, Cooler Master, Consair for $50-70.00 on Neweggg. Never get Roswell or XION. This are hit or missing PSU.

White Knight, what's your opinion on this? Iffy on the HP part but i7-920, 1TB, 9GB RAM, and GTX 260 1.8gb(????) for $1200 seems really quite cheap

Edit - NM it has horrible reviews

In the specs on power supplies, check the noise output... the PSU fan is the only one you can't control from the system board, so go for a quiet one.

For a i7 that's a very good price. For me personally I wish I knew more about the MB. I like a lot of expandability. My MB only has 8 SATA ports.

I was saving for this GA-MA790FXT-UD5P but as I said my PC die and needed one right away.

    ONLY 8? Psh.

I've got 6 internal (ich9r controller), 2 eSATA on an onboard PCIe x1 jmicron RAID controller, and a removeable header with another 2 esata for the jmicron... But I use IDE CD's so that keeps it under control

Another very good point. Especially if you are sleeping with it. My Real Power is noisy. But since I stop doing SLI my system is a lot more quiet.

    EDIT: And cooler;)

I am using IDE DVD's too. I am not wasting SATA ports on Optical drives. I needs to start switching my HDDs to 2TB.

That other MB had 10 SATA ports.

Saw that... Looks like that monster is about comparable to mine , except I have a 3rd PCIE 2.0 instead of a second pcie x1, and an 802.11n access point (saved me when the router died LOL) instead of those extra ports.

I think EVGA has a 10 SATA MB. But I would need to go i7.
