Its the Dell Studio XPS 16. I'd like to stay under $2000 but it has to be at Dell.
Then go for Dell's Alienware M15x, you can add a GT 260M and 4GB RAM for $1674.00. For a laptop this will last for years. But if all you want to do is play STO the other one will just fine. The 4670 should let you play at Med/High. The GT 260M Very High depending on your ISP speeds.

You do what you can. If this is a desktop you could upgrade the video card.

Since I finally found a way to buy a game this question became important to me.

My old computer died and I had very little time and money to get a new one so bought what I could - HP Compaq dx2450 - Everything else seem fine except, I couldn't found out anything about graphic card used in configuration?! So cannot know will it work, and before investing in game would like to know will I be able to run it!

I'm not an expert and need help and you, White Knight, seem like one to ask - can you try and find out for me, PLEASE! Pretty please!:o

I assume you have the PC now. Do a search on your PC for dxdiag.exe run it. On the bottom there is a button "Save All Info", save it as a .txt file on you desktop and open it and post it here.

I live in the California USA so don't be surprise if you don't here for me for a few hours. It 1:37 AM my time right now.

Might I suggest you looking at cyperpowerpc.com or one of the many other custom pc stores before over spending on alienware. I found their selections of components to put in your customized PC to be much greater then alienware at a cheaper price. But thats just me.

I'd personally avoid CyberPowerPC (and iBuyPower) for that matter. They don't run any tests on their assembled PCs and install from images. For one PC, the main drive with Windows was set to E:\ (they stupidly installed Windows with a media reader attached that wanted C: and D:). For another PC, it came assembled with Windows on it, but with a bad stick of memory in a dual-channel kit. Poor.

If you want pre-ordered, get a PC from a builder who actually tests their builds. A good start in Maingear.

Hey White Knight. My 4 day weekend was awesome, looking forward to another, lol! :)

I don't have any experience with Alienware after Dell bought them. Their configs look good and should be better quality components than in regular Dell PCs of the same class (even XPS models).

Yup, the 9800 GTX card is a solid performer. And with a Core 2 Quad CPU and 8GB of RAM you'll probably be fine and high settings.

Alienware puts out a good product but the selections they offer for components when customizing your PC are very limited and they usually make you get liquid cooling on their high end gaming systems. Like I said in my previous post there are other sites that offer more choices and cheaper prices for the components you want in your PC. If money is not an issue Alienware is a good place to shop but for those of us on a budget you get more "bang" for your buck at many of the other sites that have been listed above by the very knowledgable STO community.

QFT. For those looking for a builder, do your research. Make sure your builder tests the completed PCs and installs latest drivers (one way to confirm that they do not just install from a generic image). It's worth the extra $100 on a $1k PC or higher for this testing and personal attention to your PC. You'll find that most cheap builders don't test anything. Do your homework on this one. :)

Your talkin 250-350 upgrade, and for double that you can build a new low budget gaming rig.

But if your game is having trouble running an MMO...time to upgrade...

MMO's are usually need the lowest systems to run, because of the way the fill textures, and such...

Your CPU and memory are fine. You still didn't say if this is a desktop, but since you listed a 2400 Pro, it looks like a desktop.

So yes, upgrade your video card. I'd go with an ATI 4670 if you're on a budget. Otherwise an ATI 5750 or NVIDIA 250 would be a solid performer.

cipher_nemo is correct was usual, a ATI 4650 or 4670 would be the way to go. Both cards require a 300 W PSU w/o PCIE 6 pin cable. If you're really tight on cash get a 3650. They are old but still OK. Now supposedly next month ATI is releasing new 5650 and 5670.

Both the ATI HD 5750 and Nvidia GTS 250 require a 450 W PSU with one PCIE 6 pin cable. With these cards STO will most likely run on high to very high depending on you ISP speeds.

Now open beta doesn't start till 1/12 and the release is 2/2 so you have plenty of time to get ready.:D

If your PC cant play this game you should have upgraded years ago.

STOL is really low specs for a game of today.

not a bad thing as im not a GFX monkey and the game looks very nice to me.

This also makes the game accessible to a lot more people, one of the reasons WoW did so well because you could play it on a game boy lol

To make a new system just to play this game would only cost hardly anything.

    Or just ask Santa

Would cost at least $500.00. The GPU would be cheaper. Times are hard. Give the guy a break.

I am back again, I would like to upgrade my system on a budget, basically less than the cost of buying another middle of the road desktop($700-$800). My computer is a Gateway DX420B desktop. I have a Duo 1.86Ghz processor and 1GB RAM, and I also have the NVIDIA 7300LE(Lame Edition). My computer has a 400W power supply according to the specs at Gateway, so I seem to be ok there. Looks like my motherboard can handle a 2.66Ghz chip without swapping the motherboard and can take 4GB ram. What I am going to do is update my RAM to 4GB, as far as my motherboard, should I just swap out the chip for a more powerful one, or get a new motherboard? I believe a Duo 2.66 should be more than adequate to run the game. Next what is a video card that will allow me to run this game at a high to max setting? In a previous post I was told to go with the NVIDIA 9800GT, but it did not specify the quality. Can I even get max settings with my monitor? I have a Gateway FPD1975W HD monitor.

To let you know I had a hard time running ST Legacy on this thing, and I am guessing that my 7300 card had a lot to do with that. I put the web address below so that it would be easy to get my computer and monitor specs.

    Thanks again for the help.:)

When you are suggesting a GPU upgrade you must also factor in the cost to run it. Most people with inexpensive GPU's have a 300 W PSU or less. People upgrade there PC a year ago only had a 220-270W PSU. The entry level GTX needs at least a 450 W PSU with a PCIE 6 pin with 12v 22 AMP. That another $50.00 plus dollars in the US to the cost of a GPU upgrade.
