That good. Like I said I only have 4GB now and idle I use less a 1/4 of it. It's the cr@p that HP has running on your laptop that really slows the machine. See The HP Laptop Out-Of-The-Box Guide The anti-virus part in this is really out dated. I prefer Norton ISS 2010.

It's good but a little dated. I would go for the 4870. Same power requirement.

I checked the yougamers website, states i meet recommended requirements (obviously) lol and should be able to run at high visual settings, I would love to get a new Video Card right now, no cash and paying for a wedding, 3870 will have to do for a while

The GPU will run at medium/high. The 4870 high to very high.
    Run STO Test:

I'm also badly out of practice with regard to deciphering computer specs, so I took the Yougamers test first. Flunked it. The test believes the culprit to be a garbage graphics card (which I suspected even before the test), but I'd appreciate it if someone in the know took a glance over my basic system specifications and told me if upgrading my card is sufficient to ensure worthwhile gameplay or if I'm better off chasing a new platform altogether.

Unfortunately it is your GPU. The 9300M GS is a value GPU you can't replace it.

    Laptops GPU:
For Nvidia will have a GPU which is PERFORMANCE class or better.
For ATI at 4300 or better.
The better your graphic the better games play.

Laptop with AMD Vision configuration are a good ideal right now.

And yet, the SRL link you posted for someone else puts me above minimum requirements. Not outstandingly so, but it certainly wasn't the rampant fail stamp the Yougamers results were.

    Who should I trust?

The 9300M GS is not a good GPU for gaming. You can play WoW on it but not STO. If STO plays on it, it will be painful. But, that being said wait and try STO on it. If you are happy with the play more power to you.

OK this is a really good system. Future proof 5 years with upgrades. The only thing I don't like is the Liquid Cooling. This is a self contain unit which probability has 2 years life till it needs to be replace. And if it leaks, ouch. I prefer a really good air cooling solution. I would see if you can get it without it.

Edit: The 750 W is fine as long as you only use 1 GPU. It can handle 2 but it will use a lot of power and create a lot of heat. Just use a really good GPU. The GTX 285 is a really good card.

    i did what ya asked....
    That's what I thought. You have a GeForce G210M not a GT210M since the GeForce G210M doesn't extinct.
This GPU is not a gaming chip. You can play games like SIMS or WoW which don't have demanding graphics. Demanding DirectX 10 games, like Crysis, are playable only in low detail settings and low resolutions.

Even though STO is a DirectX 9 games it graphic requirements are demanding. If it can play on your system it will be at the very lowest detail and resolution settings.

It will but I would try to get a better GPU then 4570 if you can. Maybe 4670, or Nvidia GT 230M or GT 240M. If not you'll be OK.

    I can get the 4670 with a Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8700 (3MB cache/2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB).

That appears to be the highest end video card Dell offers unless I'm not seeing others.

The GPU is not going to cut.

    Run STO test.

    For Desktop:
For Nvidia you should get a 9600 GT or better. The 9600 GT requires a 400W PSU w/o a PCIE cable and will run this game on medium settings. Now the ATI HD 4650 only needs a 300W PSU w/o a PCIE cable and will run this game on medium settings.

Any cards above these two will need a 450 PSU or better and will need a PCIE cable.

For Laptop try to buy a system with ATI HD 4650 or nvidia 9600 Go or GT 230M, 240 or better.

Its the Dell Studio XPS 16. I'd like to stay under $2000 but it has to be at Dell.
