I may be missing something, but I don't see what makes the ship worth more than a regular T6. I mean, the gas stuff is unusual but it is still just a T6 Sovereign variant.

The Elder Scroll Online has a pretty reasonable lockbox system. You can buy the boxes in the game shop. Then you can open them. There are no keys. The fancy items are mounts, pets/companion, costumes etc. Further are are consumables. All items are account wide. Consumables can be transferred among your characters. There is also a special currency. Most consumables can be sold for this currency. The game shop has a special tab where you can buy items with this currency. The items are things that came with earlier boxes. When you open a box with for instance a mount you already have unlocked, you get some currency. It is almost similar as the lobi store. Open boxes and you can get currency and when you have enough, you can by something.
The difference is, there are no keys and mounts, costumes, hats, tattoos, pets etc. are account wide.

I love their system. It gets them money and doesnt TRIBBLE their players.

Another thing... I really hope they make ships account wide. ToS Phasers are broken visually and I know Cryptic, they wont fix it. So now the only way to get good looking ToS type beams is on the Disco Connie. But of course, you cant get those unless you own the ship. My Disco alt does, but not my main ToS toon. -_- So im screwed.

The only way to make lockbox ships and reward pack ships account wide is to lower the odds...in the long run it would be good but short run it would be disastrous.

I have a slightly better solution...why don't they just make the traits/consoles/pets account unlock once you have the ship on one character. This would be in one of the reclaim places similar to Delta/AOY/Gamma recruits. This way, if you really want the ship on multiple characters, you still have to get the ship, but if you only want the trait/console/pets, you only have to get the ship once. This would only apply to lockbox/lobi/reward pack ships.

I do still believe phoenix pack ships should be account unlock as they are not tradeable on the exchange and they were once account unlock ships in the first place.

If you don't mind having red beams, the Covert Phasers have the TOS look too, and they're from a lockbox, so easier access from the Exchange. I got a set on my Discovery character and they don't look too bad. Have plans to try them out on a TOS ship and maybe even my Kelvin Connie at some point. And word on the grapevine is they look pretty good on a Kelvin as well.

I have done that. They look ok on ToS ships, better then the K13 beams where every overload shot makes a giant box around the beam cause they forgot to fix them when they made beams small. https://arcgames.com/en/forums/startrekonline#/discussion/1251532/k13-tos-twin-phasers-animations-broken

It doesn't really matter if they don't have keys. You buy the boxes themselves. Whether they have keys or not is irrelevant. I do like how this post relates to another post from another use from a while back. And that is that it would be nice if we could trade our lock box trash boo boo prizes in for some lobi if we wanted instead.

I would legit spend like 500k dil on a single lockbox ship account unlock. I would love for my main's ships to be useable by other characters. He has like 8-10 lockbox ships, but then you made cardassians playable so now I got a new main... but I absolutely abhor that I have to basically start from scratch all over again in terms of lockbox ships. Gosh would I love to bring my astika to my cardi.

500k dil is nothing. It's only 1,000 zen. I'd expect something more like 3,000 zen and a per character transaction.

So spend $10 or 2+ months refining. But how much was already spent getting that lockbox ship into existence? That's the problem here, it isn't getting an account wide ship for $10, its more like $210 on average isn't it?

The Elder Scrolls Online has this great advantage over other systems is the fact that you are no longer gambling to get an item, but you are gambling to get a discount on the item you want. Given the fact that there are legal restrictions on gambling and gambling in computer gaming, in peticular when minors are involved, I think the ELO system might fullfil in the long run, where other systems has to adapt.
Second of less importance but a nice quality of life thing, the gameplay is not interfered with lockboxes, drops that are no real drops, unless you pay for it.

For those of us who don't powerfarm, 500k dil is a MASSIVE amount of dil. I powerfarm on one character only, cause I just don't have the time to do it on multiple characters, so i'm stuck with the once a day 8k dil refinement. That's a long time of saving up just to blow on one unlock, when I have like 10 or more to do.

You're doing it wrong then. F2P isn't practical doing one character. Do a bare minimum of least 3 or more characters. Your other choice is to open your wallet. That's it, there's no other choice.

There is always another choice and they are not doing it wrong. I do better on one main character than focusing more of my efforts on the other characters, it is exhausting work and with the lag (have had less of it these couple of weeks), had no SNRs since that patch that has caused some people to not be able to log in, etc. To me 500K dill is a massive amount of dilithium as well. F2P can be practical doing one character, it is possible. It is just not how you play. So don't tell people they can only play two ways, that is very elitist sounding and has no place in this game.

Nope, it's simple math. You can only grind 8k per day per character. So if you want to grind more, then you have to do it on multiple characters. There is no arguing around this. If you are happy only grinding 8k dil per day then of course there's nothing wrong with that. But if you aren't happy with only 8k dil per day and you are only willing to grind on 1 character then your only other choice is to spend money for zen. Saying all of this isn't elitist. It's just a fact.

Not the only choice as you could decide to skip the zen store entirely, acknowledge the fact that upgrading is a system driven by the demands of peer pressure and not anything the game has to offer outside elite content and be prepared to walk away from the dilex once cryptic's meddling has made it stagnate once again.

Skipping the store is pretty easy unless you are prone to chasing a meta that demands something from a flavour of the month ship that you'll only fly for the unlock.

I'm just glad that my f2p account was able to get the proper elite starter bundle before it got switched with the similarly named per character one and as there's not been any ships worth getting (to me) I can sit on the t6 tokens until something does eventually arrive, maybe by that time there'll be content to use it in thats not the same old same old.

The number of multiple purchases on a single account would vanish but more folk would likely be interested in an account based ship so probably not that much of an impact. might even give the prices a bump on some of the gamblebox ships.

I've always wondered how many people actually purchase multiple copies of the same ship. I personally have never even considered it, the few lockbox, lobi, and promo ships I own I only have a single copy of for a specific character due to the insane prices.

I got the Universe-class ship for my main character, and with the last R&D I lucked out big time with two Promo ship tokens. I'm not going to use them until I see how this turns out (I'm thinking Account Unlock is part of the "Ships you are looking for") though.

If it's not retroactive, then I can use one of them to have the ship unlocked for the rest of my characters, which would be no problem for me. But if it is retroactive, then I'll be able to unlock two other ships :)

I'm glad I've seen this thread before getting those Promo ship tokens.

    500k dill takes about 7 days with 10 characters doing nothing but admiralty and doffing (8k x 10 =80k x 7 = 560k). Takes about 30 minutes per day.

That's right. And I earn between $10-$20 in zen each week with my alt farms. BUT (and this is important): new players don't have these high level alt-farms like we do. We have built up our farms over years of playing. So while it might be easy for people who have been playing a long time to earn a bunch of dil, it's not a comparable situation for new players.

I'm still interested in how these ships can be account unlocks. I'd also like to see some outfits become account unlocks too. The Enterprise era MACO being so stupidly expensive on the DL being one of them.

I know it won't be a popular opinion, but I disagree with making Lockbox and Phoenix Box ships/items account unlocks. I'd make Lobi Store ships/items account unlocks, though. And I'd implement a trade up option for Phoenix Vouchers.

Let us dissect this shall we:

Phoenix Ships should be account wide - the reason being is that these ships have been account unlock from the get go. It is hard enough to acquire a golden phoenix token as it is. Make that reward worthwhile when achieved.

Besides, let us be honest, most folks buy Phoenix boxes for the sake of acquiring upgrades, which are far better than the ones players create.

In regards to Lockbox ships - This one is tricky / Because most folks get certain ships for their traits and basically dumb the ship in dry dock.

So the question is: Should the trait be account wide or the ship be account wide? And there lies the dilemma.

Aside from the obvious show stopper ships like the DISCO connie, Franklin, Enterprise J, D7 cruiser etc... Most of the other ones are in house creations - At least to me I feel that the ones that hold more value are the ones associated with the TV series and movies.

That ship has forunately already sailed: as of today, Miradorn (lockbox) ship is now in the C-Store.

EDIT: Announced, at least: haven't actually seen it yet.

    Not the first either.

Back with the Vanguard Pack, you also gain account access to the old T5 Jem'Hadar Dread Carrier and Heavy Escort Carrier, as well as the T5 Galor. 2 lockbox, and one lobi. As account unlocks.
