They could use account unlocks as a dangly carrot LTS perk.

They could use account unlocks as a dangly carrot LTS perk.

That is an interesting idea. One of the frequent theories is that LTS hurts Cryptic in the long run by denying them sub payments. This however, incentivizes LTS to invest in lobi/lockbox ships in ways they may not do right now because they are per character unlocks.

I am ok for prize account unlock.
But what happen for the EC exchange with LB ship?
  • postagepaidpostagepaid Member Posts: 2,899 Arc User
The account market will be affected a bit since folk won't need to buy multiples for an account if they want a ship.

But at the same time more folk might look into buying one if they are account unlocks.

Over the 8 or so years I have played I have spent a good chunk of money when I could on the Old Starter and expansion packs, plus various Cstore ships, character slots and a few months of sub time in there. Think I have only bought something like 50 keys total over that time period but never got anything better than the old Tier 5 Mirror ships from the lock boxes. Have a stockpile of the Mirror ship boxes stashed away on 1 toon for when I get the urge to unlock the mirror materials on some of the T5-U and T6 versions of those ships.

I did get enough Lobi to pickup the Tier 5 Jem'Hadar Dreadnought carrier (So that My Romulan would have a carrier to fly), and upgrade the Jem'hadar space set when it needed the lobi to get the Mk XII shortly after the Romulan expansion went live. Then a couple weeks ago I finally bought the Ferngi D'Kora for my Ferengi just for the reason of it being the canon Racial ship.

The biggest thing that keeps me from bothering with the Lobi and Lockbox ships is that they are not account wide unlocks. If they were account wide I would be opening more of the lockboxes but with 20-30 toons per account I don't even bother with Fleet versions of ships or Cstore B.Offs due to them being 1 off items instead of an unlock.

Fleet versions of select/Favorite ships that I have the 1 Module discounted cost (ie Risian Pilot Corvette, Orion Blackguard, Alita Strike Wing) and that is just due to the getting fleet modules from Tier 6 reputations and really liking the non-fleet version of those ships.

Have bought the Steam Starter, Romulus Starter, Legacy of Romulus, Delta Rising Operations, Temporal Starter, Gamma Vanguard Starter, Discovery Starter, Neverwinter Hero of the North pack for the Andorian Light Escort, All the Small Craft, and an extra 14 Fed Ships, 10 KDF (including all 5 Orion Original ships), and 2 Romulan Warbirds. So I am not afraid to spend money when I can for account wide purchases just very hesitant to spend the money on single use items.

I hope that this is a retroactive.

But if it is, does it go by if you actively have the lockbox/Phoenix ship in your Active/Dry Dock slot, or does it go by the Admiralty card if you have deleted that ship to make room for other ships?

You know, I just thought that if they make those Ships Account-wide unlocks, what will that do about them being able to be put on the Exchange? We've never had Account-wide Ships on the Exchange.

The number of multiple purchases on a single account would vanish but more folk would likely be interested in an account based ship so probably not that much of an impact. might even give the prices a bump on some of the gamblebox ships.

I've always wondered how many people actually purchase multiple copies of the same ship. I personally have never even considered it, the few lockbox, lobi, and promo ships I own I only have a single copy of for a specific character due to the insane prices.

I have a 2nd t'laru mainly because its the only romulan carrier.

But since getting it I've held off the actual unboxing as I don't know if I want to have it on an LTS account alt, punt it across to my f2p account (although I'd have to then get a scimitard for the drone unlock) or drop it back on the exchange at a loss.

I honestly believe we'd likely see a BLEND.

By that you'd still see the Premier Lockbox Ships / Epic Ships equivalent being single character; perhaps in future a few secondary Very Rare Ships being Account-Wide depending on the Box. I suspect the Lobi ships however will likely remain single character.

Thought it's possible Phoenix Ships in future may be Account-Wide...

Got to wait and see what happens! <3

Check out the Vizier in Mudd's Market if you want to see how this Account-wide Ship stuff will turn out.

Oh for the love of God, they made that available IN-GAME now!?! I missed that announcement somehow, but I suppose the four WizKids promo ships I've been sitting on are truly worthless now? To say that this pisses me off is a gross understatement, but accurately expressing my opinion on this would be certain to get me banned.

You can probably get at least 35$ for them. The Vizier is NOT cheap in the Mudd store.

$5 more than a normal T6. And honestly why after all this time are you STILL sitting on 4 of them evilmark? Trying to wait for the EBay prices to go up?

I may be missing something, but I don't see what makes the ship worth more than a regular T6. I mean, the gas stuff is unusual but it is still just a T6 Sovereign variant.

The price is pretty much arbitrary, but so was the decision to make it a special promo item. If people didn't jump on the promo, they're basically paying a late fee.

Alternate hull material, alternate bridge officer configuration and the console is what it has too offer.

Out of hundreds of phoenix boxes I have only ever gotten one UR token, and I have been holding onto it since I have several possible uses for it (like for instance getting the Risan cruiser for the console that goes with the one from the latest summer event ship) but I have yet to decide which single character could use it best.

Don't get the Risian cruiser, at least yet.
Wait for the 2020 summer event. Odds are it will be the T6 version of that cruiser, with the appropriate upgraded console.

For the Vizier, I'm not opposed to it being 3500Z. It's a "special" ship. At least now it's acquirable without dealing with scalpers that jack up the WizKids item price. Now it's just Cryptic jacking up the price. :D

Back on topic, if Lobi/Lockbox/Promo/Phoenix ships were account unlocks, I'd actually play that game.
As it is, I've only ever opened a single lockbox ship, and it was the Marauder I got from the exchange for dirt cheap for my Ferengi to complete the console set.
No other ship is worth spending even 1 EC on for a single character unlock for me.

I've a niggly suspicion that if the mugs markup thing is deemed a success by the bean counters that it will become the replacement for giving access to items that would otherwise end up in phoenix. The dil exchange looks like it's set to stagnate beyond the abilities of the phoenix boxes to make a dent without something resembling a decent lure.

Account unlocks might be that lure BUT to be honest I doubt it'd help much while the top end tokens remain as rare to get as they are.

Only two that I can think of that really drew that much love was the Tuffli and D'Kora…

Everything else tends to be a "one commander at a time" thing... (Though I've been somewhat upset that my Recluse / Orb Weaver set is still "stuck" on my old main that got replaced with ToS characters...)
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

The Elder Scroll Online has a pretty reasonable lockbox system. You can buy the boxes in the game shop. Then you can open them. There are no keys. The fancy items are mounts, pets/companion, costumes etc. Further are are consumables. All items are account wide. Consumables can be transferred among your characters. There is also a special currency. Most consumables can be sold for this currency. The game shop has a special tab where you can buy items with this currency. The items are things that came with earlier boxes. When you open a box with for instance a mount you already have unlocked, you get some currency. It is almost similar as the lobi store. Open boxes and you can get currency and when you have enough, you can by something.
The difference is, there are no keys and mounts, costumes, hats, tattoos, pets etc. are account wide.

I love their system. It gets them money and doesnt TRIBBLE their players.

Another thing... I really hope they make ships account wide. ToS Phasers are broken visually and I know Cryptic, they wont fix it. So now the only way to get good looking ToS type beams is on the Disco Connie. But of course, you cant get those unless you own the ship. My Disco alt does, but not my main ToS toon. -_- So im screwed.
