I liked Avatar, and I thought it was indeed gorgeous looking creating a very immersive fictional world. It's story probably belongs into the "Overused Plots I don't want to see again" bin.
The real crime was that it also launched a new era of 3D in movies that I could live without. Make your characters three dimensional and you need a lot less money for your cameras, people!

As one who likes making CG art, I don't mind films and series made totally with CG. Reboot, Beast Wars, War Planets, and Roughnecks are examples of how it can work. Plus you can make more unique creatures and so on.
beast wars was done in the very early days of pure CGI animation, and as a result, it was rather...cringe-worthy when compared to something like The Polar Express, Avatar or even The Clone Wars/Rebels
i loved that show to death as a kid, but hooooo boy was its CGI horrible

Ugh. I'm a huge G1 geek and I am not ashamed to discuss that Skylynx made me feel funny when I was a little targlet But everything that came after, from G2 (lol) over Beastwars or Prime including the Bay movies was/is just horrible. And yes, Transformers was a show made to promote toys, but it still had surprising complex plots (sometimes) and a charming animation style. But when they went for crude CGI it broke my heart a bit, even when already outgrowing the target audience by a long shot when beastwars came around.

G1 was okay.....though I only liked season 3 (Rodimus fangirl), since it was not so bottled up like 1 and 2 were. Call of the Primitives was the fav G1 episode for me. And Beast Wars did follow the G1 story, I loved season 1 of Beast Wars most. The wild planet, the mysterious structures, the even more mysterious aliens who made them, the energon surges, and I love animal transformers, especially when they look like real animals. ~holds up an original Optimus Primal figure~ Just wish it was smaller in size. o.o

Oh, I am not opposed against CGI. I am just not much a fan of 3D movies. I find them more straining and thanks to the glasses, it's always darker than it should be. And they slap on an extra cost for barely any noteworthy effect.
If Star Trek had always an Avatar level of budget, we would probably not need to bother with all those aliens with bumps on their foreheads, and could make more real alien looking creatures.
Though maybe we need the aliens with bumps on their forehead, to be more relatable to us. Or maybe not, who knows.

Make BOTH. I been studying UFOlogy for about 25 years, more or less, and my research, talking those who tell me they made contact or had visitations, even talked to a few military guys, as well as looking at those carving and cave paintings, and it seems to be both.....that life out there....some look a lot like us, some look nothing close to us.

Sky Lynx ist just the most magnificient Transformer around, and the one that will always bail you out when you make inevitable, foolish mistakes. To this day I always think before I act - "What would Sky Lynx do?" and that is the right choice to make!
Sadly there are no screen caps that really do him justice, but here is a breakdown of the toy with geeky background information. My second favorite Transformer is probably Tantrum, one of the few mammalian beast transformers of G1. He's part of the Predacon transformator team which is the Decepticons answer to Sky Lynx actually, so I'm a bit yin-yang on the issue. Even Predaking (combined Predacon form) is afraid of Sky Lynx, but the two clashing is one of the most giddy-worthy moments of all Tranformers (to me, the IP of Transformers begins and ends with G1)
As far as diagrams go, have you seen that neck and tail? Also, note that Sky Lynx is able to separate into two beast transformers, a Bird-thingy and a - duh - Lynx, both of which share his personality. That's double awesomesauce!

Yeah, I think it's the latter. Star Trek generally uses its aliens as allegorical stand-ins for aspects of humanity, hence they need to look roughly human most of the time. Although, we of course have the counterpoints of the Horta and the Gorn, who were given relatable motives despite being visually quite inhuman.
On the flip side, the Tholians and the Elachi (in their original appearance in "Silent Enemy", who are deliberately very alien to make them more mysterious.

I admit I don't mind the live action Transformers movies. First was alright, second was a decent followup, but the third... Honestly Dark of the Moon's plot comes out of left field. Makes it sound like the events of Transformers and Fallen were PREDICTED. Dark of the Moon is the black sheep of the live action continuity IMO. When they brought in Whalberg... I think the quality started going up again. Age of Extinction and Last Knight were pretty good.
I never saw G1, watched several episodes of Beast Wars (which was pretty decent animation wise if you consider WHEN it was made and not judge it by today's standards) and a lot of episodes of Cybertron. I don't remember if it was Armada or Energon you could turn into a drinking game that would get you drunk before the first commercial break...

Either way... its an oddball in the live action continuity.
And IMO... the Live action movies shouldn't be judged based on any preset beliefs from G1 or the Unicron Trilogy as it is a separate continuity from either of them. Nothing in G1 has any bearing on the movies, and vice versa. Let it stand on its own merits. Which I guess are more prominent AFTER Dark of the Moon.

@artan42 sure, feel free to direct anything you wish to know at me. It's probably true that Transformers is best in it's third season which starts with the cinematic 1986 movie followed by the five-parter "Five faces of darkness" - I feel this is when it gained most of it's depth (which is of course relative in a cartoon about toys but meh ). Season 2 and especially 1 were pretty disjunkt and episodic. S3 even became a bit political, containing a incredibly offensive returning spoof of Muammar Gaddafi...

Dark Of The Moon is an old old saying still used in the rural Southeastern USA. It refers to the lunar period in which Luna is not visible in the night sky. It is unrelated to the Dark Side Of The Moon which gets as much light as any other part of the moon but which is never visible from Earth.
The Dark of the Moon is often referred to in planting almanacs as a good time for peas and squash planting. It's most memorable pop culture reference was in the first published rap song in the USA:
It was the Dark Of The Moon on the Sixth of June,
In a Kenworth haulin' logs...
